Communication 101: Red Flags in Relationships
Red flags are common in conversations and relationships with our friends and family. That is why we must learn how to listen and speak as Jesus Christ taught us. We should love each other, forgive one another, and care for others by doing what He has done for us. In this Therapy Thursday episode with Lidia Martinez, we talk about three red flags in communication that we should be aware of. These are; selfishness versus compassion, bitterness versus forgiveness, and complaining versus the attitude of gratitude.
Though we are human beings who are never perfect, it is important to understand that the only person we can change is ourselves with the help of God. Work on yourself before judging others on their red flags. We can never help others until we have helped ourselves first through self-care. Self-care is an investment in your future happiness, making you a better caregiver, friend, and family member.
Whenever someone hurts you, God gives you a chance to get better or be bitter. Either we can forgive and move on, or we can continue living in bitterness and hurt. The former will strengthen us, but the latter will drain our energy.
