What can I do with my 401(k) if I worked in the US as a non-US citizen and have either stopped working or moved back to my home country?

We got a question from an attendee of our talk at the Reaching Out MBA conference in Chicago. They lived here while going to school and worked. While working they opened up a 401k. Now they’re living back in Italy and want to know what their options are to invest or withdraw the investments.

I’ve worked with contract workers who are here from Asia and India as well as students who are here going to school but also working while attending university. Maybe you have too. What are their options if they have were auto-enrolled or chose to enroll in a 401(k) or 403(b)?

You’re listening to Queer Money episode #474. And today, we’re sharing some options for folks who have a 401k but are nonresidents of the US and no longer residing in the US. to help if that is you, or if you have a colleague or employee who may be in this situation.
