Eric:

Here is what is coming up on Saturday.

Eric:

On the next two hours of the around the House Show, Eric talks about if your next project should be a DIY project or hire a pro.

Eric:

Then in hour two, he chats with attorney Andy Wyman about what you need to know about construction contracts.

Eric:

A special thanks to Feedspot for naming around the House the number two home improvement podcast in the world.

Eric:

Make sure you are subscribed to the podcast so you don't miss an episode.

Speaker B:

Can a licensed electrician come up and go, this is what we're doing?

Speaker B:

And off they go.

Speaker B:

Absolutely.

Speaker B:

Can I do it?

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

I haven't done it in a few years and quite frankly, my house here, I had a local company do it.

Speaker B:

I had my friends over at Rose City Electric come over and do it because they could do it quickly.

Speaker B:

I had to move the panel.

Speaker B:

I had to do a lot of stuff and I was like, nope.

Speaker B:

Code says the panel had to move.

Speaker B:

Really?

Speaker B:

And where my electrical was coming in and I just had them do it.

Speaker B:

It was faster.

Speaker B:

Did it cost a little bit more money?

Speaker B:

Absolutely.

Speaker B:

That's what got it done and got it signed off on the project.

Speaker B:

Now they had a lot better ways of doing it because I'm watching, I'm like, oh, my gosh, that was so much eas.

Speaker B:

I would have done it this way, would have met Code.

Andy Wyman:

If you see it, their reviews gradually getting worse and worse and worse.

Andy Wyman:

And more recently, they've had some really bad ones.

Andy Wyman:

That is a sign that this, this contract is probably having financial difficulties and, you know, it's just a matter of time before the music stops and you're left without a chair to sit in.

Andy Wyman:

And you know that it's going to land in somebody's unfortunate lap when, when things finally implode on that contractor.

Andy Wyman:

So that's, that's something that we always encourage people to look for and we look for it for them if they, you know, like for us to do so.

Speaker B:

That is so smart because how the traditional contractor goes under is that they're taking, you know, the Robin Peter to pay Paul.

Speaker B:

So.

Andy Wyman:

Right.

Speaker B:

You know, when your final check is paying, your writing to them is actually paying for the next job.

Andy Wyman:

Yes, that's exactly right.

Speaker B:

And they're just trying to pay it forward.

Speaker B:

And like you said, that's a great analogy.

Speaker B:

When the music stops and you're the project, you're in trouble.

Speaker B:

All that and more on Saturdays around Round the House show with Eric G.
