Mentioned in this episode:
A few years ago, one of my private clients underwent a week long intensive brainwave
Speaker:training using one of the world's most sophisticated technologies. They
Speaker:measured his capacity to achieve happiness and he scored a
Speaker:measly 3 out of 10. Then we worked together for a year and he
Speaker:just went back for another round of brain training. This time he scored a 10
Speaker:out of 10. A 328% increase in his
Speaker:capacity to feel happiness. Now, if that's not mind blowing enough,
Speaker:listen to this. Over the course of the year, we didn't do therapy, we didn't
Speaker:use psychedelics, he didn't meditate. What I had him do was much
Speaker:simpler. He simply learned how to change the way he was thinking.
Speaker:He's also not the only one. For the last decade, I've been helping entrepreneurs like
Speaker:him reprogram their minds to operate from power instead of fear. Now, my
Speaker:private clients like him pay $150,000 a year to work with me.
Speaker:But I'm going to give you the exact same game plan I gave him in
Speaker:the next few minutes for free. In this video, I'm going to show you how
Speaker:to rewire your brain for happiness. And not in a year, but in just seven
Speaker:days. Welcome to A Changed Mind,
Speaker:a journey into the topics that matter to you most. From the
Speaker:neuroscience and spirituality of mindset and personal growth, to
Speaker:groundbreaking strategies for health, wealth and relationships, to open
Speaker:and honest conversations about pressing global issues such as the
Speaker:environment, censorship, corporate capture, and democracy.
Speaker:Each and every episode reminds us of the certainty of the goodness of the future
Speaker:and provides the teachings, tools, and timeless wisdom inspiring
Speaker:you to create real, lasting change in your life and in the world.
Speaker:If you've been desiring a sanctuary for your spirit, a place to go to
Speaker:tune out the distraction, negativity and doom and gloom so that you
Speaker:can tap into the deep power, the vibrancy, and the potential you have
Speaker:inside. You're in the right place. Welcome to
Speaker:a changed mind. So, best feeling in
Speaker:the world. A client messaged me the other day. He said, hey, I just went
Speaker:to do brain training again. He had done it a year before. Then we
Speaker:started working together. He was really bummed out the first time he did the training.
Speaker:He had a very limited capacity to feel happiness. And what that really
Speaker:meant was his nervous system had just not been trained or primed to be able
Speaker:to achieve states of joy. He had been spending most of his life
Speaker:in states of anxiety or overwhelm or feeling not good enough. And at
Speaker:the initial test, he scored a 3.3out of 10 a year. Later,
Speaker:following the process, he achieved a 10 out of 10. What happened was a
Speaker:transformation in his neurophysiology. So a lot of old wiring,
Speaker:both in his brain and in his nervous system, the old ways of thinking and
Speaker:the old ways of behaving literally got rewired. And the
Speaker:concept here is called neural pruning. It's where you can take old
Speaker:memories that hold old stories and old belief systems. And if
Speaker:you are able to consistently pull your attention away from those old memories and direct
Speaker:your attention towards new meaning in your life, you can literally change your brain. This
Speaker:is the concept of neuroplasticity. It's a beautiful thing.
Speaker:We can rewire our own brains. And when he did, over the course of the
Speaker:year that we spent together, this ended up giving him access to even more happiness.
Speaker:And from there, of course, lots of other things changed. Better connection and
Speaker:relationship with his family. He stopped drinking. He started doing more
Speaker:productive things in his life. Exercising, training, making more money, getting even
Speaker:more clear on his spiritual vision or his purpose. And we didn't achieve
Speaker:a greater capacity for happiness by trying to achieve a greater
Speaker:capacity for happiness. He just stopped running the bad
Speaker:plays, the negative thinking, and the unproductive actions. He had a game
Speaker:plan for producing different results. And so that's
Speaker:what I want to talk to you about today. Because the transformation that we're looking
Speaker:for in personal growth or mindset is not just motivation and inspiration. It's
Speaker:a change in the way that you think. And now with modern science
Speaker:and technology, we can measure this. The truth is, you have
Speaker:the same capacity. Your brain is just as responsive to the
Speaker:truth. Now, the challenge that most people have when they get into personal growth, and
Speaker:they want to start changing the way that they think. Let's say you've been believing
Speaker:in financial insecurity. You've been believing that money is scarce, or money is hard to
Speaker:make, or money is for other people, but not for you, and you want to
Speaker:start actually changing the way that you think. We have to establish first the
Speaker:better play. A lot of people want to stop the negative behaviors, but
Speaker:they haven't established what the positive behaviors are. Whether it's your thoughts,
Speaker:whether that's your emotions, or whether that's your actions, or
Speaker:you've come up with some new belief systems, or you've identified
Speaker:some better behaviors that you could engage in, but you haven't actually found evidence
Speaker:for the fact that these new belief systems are actually true,
Speaker:that they're more congruent and more in alignment with what you believe about yourself. And
Speaker:about reality. And without finding the evidence, they just become sort of blank
Speaker:affirmations or incantations that you're saying to yourself. But they never
Speaker:really take root. And the brain keeps running the old program,
Speaker:the one that says there's not enough time or you're not good enough, or that
Speaker:you don't matter. So the question becomes, how do I stop thinking
Speaker:negatively, and what would that look like in my life
Speaker:if I stopped feeding those thoughts? And
Speaker:so, you know, a lot of times entrepreneurs, because that's my line of
Speaker:work, and the people that we work with, those who stop doubting
Speaker:themselves but haven't established what self trust actually looks like, very
Speaker:easily go back to self doubt. If you, for example, have been working on this
Speaker:belief, belief that you're going to find your soulmate, you're not going to be alone
Speaker:for the rest of your life, but you haven't found evidence for that, then when
Speaker:your reality shows up in the same way that it has been, it's going to
Speaker:be very easy for you to undecide or go back on the new belief that
Speaker:you've established. Neville Goddard, one of the great mystical teachers, talks about the
Speaker:importance of staying loyal to your new decision. But what
Speaker:I found is that in order to stay loyal, we should actually look for the
Speaker:evidence that already exists in your life. Because there is evidence. Everything that you
Speaker:want right now, there's evidence for it in your life. That's one of the reasons
Speaker:why you want it. But what's happening is that as a result of your conditioning
Speaker:and your programming, the way that you think, you've been filtering out the evidence that
Speaker:supports all of these new empowered belief systems that will actually transform your
Speaker:identity and transform your life. So when my client and I started,
Speaker:we broke it down into three columns on a piece of paper. And you can
Speaker:do the same thing. I'm going to give you the step by step process here
Speaker:today. Two vertical lines, three columns on a piece of paper.
Speaker:The first column, he wrote down what he wanted. He wrote down his dreams,
Speaker:he wrote down his desires. He wrote down what he wanted to create in his
Speaker:business, what he wanted to create in his relationships with his family. He had a
Speaker:vision for running retreats. He had a vision for building his business with his wife.
Speaker:They had a vision for being able to travel around the world and have extraordinary
Speaker:experiences with their children while they were building their business and making an impact in
Speaker:the world. He wrote all of it down in that first column. That first column
Speaker:is what do you want? The second column or the middle column?
Speaker:We took a look at all the resistance that he had to the things that
Speaker:he wanted to. What were his beliefs? Well, in order to do that, I have
Speaker:to achieve a certain amount of wealth or financial security first.
Speaker:My wife's got her job and so it's not possible. A lot of
Speaker:the things that I want to do because she really likes her job. We'd like
Speaker:to have more friends, but we live in this small town in Canada where there
Speaker:just aren't that many people and they aren't very like minded. And so we're kind
Speaker:of stuck there. We looked at all the resistance. That second column with
Speaker:the resistance to what he actually wanted, that started to reveal to us his limiting
Speaker:beliefs, his process of thought or perception that needed to be changed.
Speaker:The third column, we identified all the behaviors that he was engaged
Speaker:in as a result of the resistance. So one of the things we identified was
Speaker:drinking, drinking alcohol and drinking caffeine,
Speaker:hypercaffeinating, overworking, burying himself in work,
Speaker:thinking that if he could just make some more money and get further ahead and
Speaker:be more successful, then someday in the future he'd have the resources
Speaker:to be able to live the life that he wanted to live with his family.
Speaker:The overworking, comparing himself to other people. Right. This was a
Speaker:behavior that he was engaged in as a result of the resistance. Why are other
Speaker:people able to figure out how to have this kind of life or have this
Speaker:kind of wealth? But I struggle with it. Indecision as a
Speaker:result of these beliefs. He was very indecisive,
Speaker:wanting to make the perfect decisions and therefore oftentimes
Speaker:procrastinating or self sabotaging. So when he looked at the
Speaker:page, it became obvious that this was his current
Speaker:self. This was the current form of thinking, the current form of feeling, the
Speaker:current behaviors. This was the current personality, or what we decided was
Speaker:his old self. Right? We made that declaration, this is your current
Speaker:self, really your old self. Because we're moving beyond this. And
Speaker:the life that he has, he created based on
Speaker:this old version of himself. So the work was to actually
Speaker:start to transform the way that he was thinking, the way that he was
Speaker:feeling, and the things that he was doing. So we needed to come up
Speaker:with some better plays. So after we identified his current self, we
Speaker:came pulled out another piece of paper and we came up with a new game
Speaker:plan. We titled this new self at the top. In fact, he gave himself a
Speaker:new name for his new self. Old self had a name, new self had a
Speaker:name. And the new game plan was him
Speaker:starting to operate as the Future version of himself right here,
Speaker:right now. So I'm not saying that he would spend money that he didn't
Speaker:have, but the thoughts that he would have and the feelings that he would have
Speaker:in some of the day to day behaviors, they were aligned with the version of
Speaker:him that he would be. If he had accomplished all those goals and dreams already,
Speaker:if he had accomplished everything that was in column one of that first piece of
Speaker:paper. So the first part of the process was looking at all the resistance he
Speaker:had, the thoughts he had, the beliefs he had, the actions. And then the second
Speaker:part was, well, but what would you believe if you had accomplished all of this?
Speaker:So he literally took every limiting belief that he identified in the
Speaker:middle column on the first piece of paper and he came up with a new
Speaker:decision. He said, well, if I was already living in financial prosperity and abundance, that
Speaker:I would believe that money is easy to make, if my wife had
Speaker:decided to travel around the world with me and changed out of her
Speaker:job and that was already something that had happened, I would believe that any decision
Speaker:I made, my reality would catch up to it. So he started
Speaker:writing down all these new belief systems. And we said, well, if those are your
Speaker:new beliefs, how would that feel? And he said, well, these would be
Speaker:the emotional states that I'd be living in. And we said, well, if those are
Speaker:the emotional states, what would you be doing? So some of the things he identified
Speaker:was, well, I wouldn't be drinking anymore, I wouldn't be using caffeine as a crutch.
Speaker:I wouldn't be overworking. So this started to give us our new game plan.
Speaker:The other thing that we did was we looked at all of those new belief
Speaker:systems. The belief that money could easily flow to him, the belief that whatever decision
Speaker:he made, reality would align to match it. The belief that he has all
Speaker:the time in the world to actually get things done. And we said, what evidence
Speaker:do you have for the fact that this is actually true right now? We started
Speaker:sourcing evidence in his life right now. But this is really important. This
Speaker:is part of the neurosculpting or neural pruning process.
Speaker:Finding evidence for the fact that your new belief systems, the ones that are
Speaker:aligned with the future version of you, that they're actually true right here, right
Speaker:now. See, neuroscience tells us that your limiting
Speaker:beliefs, when they're driving the bus, they will dismiss any evidence
Speaker:in your life that is counter to the limiting belief. In other words,
Speaker:you have evidence in your life right now that there is enough time or that
Speaker:help is on the way, or that resources always show up, or that anything is
Speaker:possible, or that money is easy to make, but your brain has been filtering out
Speaker:that information because it's not congruent with your limiting beliefs that you have to do
Speaker:things on your own, that you might make a mistake, that money is scarce.
Speaker:And so as we started to map out this new version
Speaker:of him, we said, hey, what evidence do we have in your life right now
Speaker:or in your life, in your past experiences that supports these new
Speaker:beliefs, these new decisions that you're making? So now we had two
Speaker:different versions of my client mapped out. Old version
Speaker:that has created the current reality, and new version. Who
Speaker:he would be, how he would think, what he would do if his goals and
Speaker:dreams were already accomplished. We identified new behaviors like
Speaker:rather than going out on the weekends and watching sports and drinking with his buddies,
Speaker:he'd take his kids out for adventures. And so we started doing those things.
Speaker:He started practicing these new plays. Anytime the old limiting
Speaker:belief would show up, he'd take a look at the future version of himself,
Speaker:he'd find the new decision, and he'd remind himself of the evidence for the fact
Speaker:that this new belief system was already true. Anytime he started to be
Speaker:encouraged into old bad behaviors, he had a new set of good behaviors at the
Speaker:ready to engage in as an alternative and a choice. And
Speaker:we worked this quarter by quarter, 90 days at a time. And then after every
Speaker:90 days, we did a review, and then we reiterated on it and we evolved
Speaker:it. And over the course of the year, his income grew, the
Speaker:connection and intimacy he had with his family grew, his relationships grew, he
Speaker:felt better about himself, and eventually the brand brain scan confirmed
Speaker:that his neurophysiology had reorganized itself, that he had literally
Speaker:rewired who he was. He had intentionally evolved from
Speaker:his old self into his new self, and his life reflected that.
Speaker:And so this is the beautiful thing about the
Speaker:brain is neuroplasticity, that we can actually transform
Speaker:our own lives by taking a look at the way that we think
Speaker:and coming up with some new plays to run on a day to day basis.
Speaker:Now, most people never give themselves a year, and you don't need to,
Speaker:because what I found is that if you just stick with this process in just
Speaker:seven days, you can really begin to feel the shift. So I want to go
Speaker:through this prescription with you one more time so you have it as a real
Speaker:fundamental takeaway from this episode. This is compressing a year of
Speaker:working together into a framework that you can implement over the next seven days. Step
Speaker:one, Write down what you want, all of it,
Speaker:what you want to create in your business, in your relationships, in your family.
Speaker:Okay, that's column one. Step two, look at your
Speaker:resistance. Write down the thoughts and the emotions that resist what it is
Speaker:that you want. The fears, the doubts, the beliefs that you can't have it.
Speaker:That's column two. This is a really important exercise
Speaker:around self awareness, Becoming aware of the resistance you have to the
Speaker:life that you want. Step three, identify the
Speaker:behaviors that those thoughts and emotions are creating. The
Speaker:drinking, the overworking, the digital
Speaker:addiction to social media platforms, and the swiping, the comparison,
Speaker:the indecision. That's column three. And then at the
Speaker:top, go ahead and name that. That's your current self. Now, step four
Speaker:is write down the thoughts, the beliefs
Speaker:that you would have if you had already achieved your list,
Speaker:if you had already achieved your goals and dreams. These are your new
Speaker:decisions. This is what your future self believes.
Speaker:And these are your new belief systems that we're going to reinforce
Speaker:with step five. Find evidence that these new beliefs are
Speaker:already true somewhere in your life, that you already have the
Speaker:time. You're just using it differently. You already have value.
Speaker:You've just been discounting it. And then number six is
Speaker:develop the new plays, the new set of behaviors and actions
Speaker:that your future self would be engaged in. The healthier alternatives
Speaker:than the destructive behaviors that your resistance is creating.
Speaker:This is it. And now you practice this for seven days.
Speaker:You continue to expand your awareness because you're gonna be paying attention, and awareness
Speaker:is transformative. You're gonna start to notice the negative thinking and the negative emotions that
Speaker:you have on a daily basis. At a deeper level, it may be uncomfortable at
Speaker:first, just like changing your diet and going through a detox is continue to
Speaker:inventory them, keep track of them for seven days. Every time you
Speaker:notice them, observe them, don't judge them, just see them.
Speaker:Because when you see them, you can shift them. And then, as best as you
Speaker:can, remind yourself of your new belief systems and the evidence that you
Speaker:have for them in that moment. That is the process of neural pruning. There's a
Speaker:part of your brain that's becoming active automatically, and you are intentionally moving
Speaker:your attention to your new decision or your new belief system and the evidence that
Speaker:supports it. When you feel compelled to engage in the old activity or
Speaker:behavior, you've got a list of healthy activities and behaviors that your future self would
Speaker:be engaging in. Do your best to choose those. And it is progress, as we
Speaker:say in addiction recovery, not perfection. You work this
Speaker:one Day at a time. You can pause this video right now if you want
Speaker:to write your list. I'm serious. If you're not going to do this, don't keep
Speaker:watching. But these are the six steps that you want to go through.
Speaker:Maintain a gentle but firm commitment
Speaker:to going through this as you do it on a day to day basis.
Speaker:So look, transformation doesn't have to take time. It takes
Speaker:alignment. And your brain is not broken. It's just been programmed by
Speaker:repetition to protect you, not expand you. And if
Speaker:your brain can learn limitation, it can also unlearn it.
Speaker:So you don't need another year to figure this out. You don't need another degree.
Speaker:You don't even need another guru. You just need seven days of awareness and
Speaker:seven days of a game plan. Noticing the bad plays and practicing the new ones
Speaker:to begin rewiring your brain to power, peace, clarity and
Speaker:happiness. So here's the question I want to leave you with. What if the next
Speaker:version of you isn't years away? What if it's not even months away?
Speaker:What if it's just one decision away? One week away, One new pattern away?
Speaker:Because when you stop running the bad plays, the negative thinking, the
Speaker:unproductive actions, the resistance to what you actually want, and you start practicing the new
Speaker:plays, your entire reality begins to shift. And not
Speaker:someday way out there, but now. So I hope you love this episode
Speaker:as much as I love sharing it with you. It's a simple game plan. If
Speaker:you need to come back and rewrite that script down, do it. I'm telling you,
