In this episode, I had the opportunity to interview Jay Shannon, a supervisor of the YES program through Project Oz in Bloomington, IL. Jay uses a unique combination of Restorative Practices and Choice Theory to help some of the area's most underserved kids graduate from school on time with a plan for what they want to do beyond graduation. We talked about some parallels between Restorative Practices and Choice Theory and how Jay draws on both in his work with students, teachers, families and administration. Interwoven throughout the entire conversation was the supreme importance of developing connecting relationships.
