What's that incoming?
Gena:Is it the 2024 Children's Book Mastery Summit?
Christopher:It is, and we've got a sneak preview!
Christopher:Hello and welcome to the Writing Momentum Podcast, I'm Christopher
Christopher:Maselli, here with my wife, Gena.
Gena:Hi there, we're so glad you're here.
Christopher:Yeah, and we're excited and we have something a little bit
Christopher:different we're going to do today.
Gena:Ok
Christopher:Now normally on the podcast, we just talk about stuff.
Gena:We talk, we kind of share, we kind of teach, we kind of
Gena:do a little mini training.
Gena:This is different though.
Christopher:This today, we have a sneak peek of one of our favorite
Christopher:events that happens every year.
Christopher:It's the 2024 Children's Book Mastery Summit.
Christopher:This is put on by our friend Karin and she does a really great job.
Christopher:She's bringing in 25 of some of the best authors and speakers and people who do
Christopher:things in the children's book market.
Christopher:And you can learn from them at this summit.
Christopher:And, uh, Hey, we, we got a sneak peek into everything going on.
Gena:Yeah.
Gena:Well, not only that, but Karin Ferreira is a good friend of ours and
Gena:we have had the privilege of being part of the Children's Book Mastery
Gena:Summit for a couple of years now.
Christopher:That's right.
Gena:And so we are going to be part of this, but you know what?
Gena:We're not just teaching at it or talking and training in it.
Gena:We are also, I've gotten my ticket, have you already gotten your ticket?
Christopher:We are attending it as well.
Gena:We are attending it.
Christopher:Yeah and so, this is really cool because she's
Christopher:bringing 25 people, right?
Christopher:So there's going to be 25 sessions.
Christopher:What are the dates that it happens?
Christopher:I'll tell you what, for those of you who are, listening, we're
Christopher:going to tell you what we're seeing, uh, in this preview here.
Christopher:But if you're viewing this on YouTube or on our website, you'll be able to
Christopher:actually see what we're looking at.
Christopher:So we're going to jump over here to the screen of the website that's
Christopher:just dropped and you can see on here, it's a free five day summit.
Christopher:Oh, that's right.
Christopher:It's free.
Gena:It is free.
Christopher:Wow.
Christopher:Now we talked last week about how important it is to invest in your writing.
Christopher:In this case, it doesn't even cost anything.
Christopher:As long as you watch them in real time.
Christopher:All it costs is your energy and your time to learn this,
Gena:which is important
Christopher:which is important.
Christopher:But I'll tell you this is one of those investments that is well worth it.
Gena:This is well worth it.
Gena:It's happening July 22nd through the 26th, and it's all online.
Gena:So you don't even have to go anywhere.
Gena:You don't have any travel expenses.
Gena:It's all online.
Gena:And Karin just does such a great job and she has brought together people.
Gena:And what I love about this summit is that we have said before, uh, many
Gena:times that writing is a business.
Gena:Your writing is a business, even if you just do it kind of for fun on the
Gena:side, there is a business element to it.
Gena:And at some point, if you publish, you have to think about all of that.
Gena:And Karin knows that, and so she is bringing together people who are going
Gena:to talk about the craft of writing, the publishing of children's books.
Gena:She's also talking about, um, the marketing and sales of children's books.
Gena:She's talking about, um, the productivity of how do you treat
Gena:your, your book writing as a business.
Christopher:There's also some really good tech classes.
Christopher:They're going to cover AI.
Christopher:They're going to cover some apps that are really great to use.
Gena:Let's jump in.
Christopher:Soo this as it says here, it's about a $1, 100 value.
Christopher:I don't doubt that when you count all these people time they're putting together
Christopher:their classes Well worth it again.
Christopher:There's 25 people.
Christopher:It's from July 22nd to 26th Now tell you this if you want to get
Christopher:your ticket You can go to wmdeal.
Christopher:com slash 2024cbm.
Christopher:Okay.
Christopher:I know that's a mouthful.
Christopher:We'll have a link somewhere around this video.
Christopher:Look around and we've got it there for you.
Christopher:It's a direct link.
Christopher:That'll make it so that you can go ahead and get a free
Christopher:ticket to this entire summit.
Christopher:It won't cost you a thing.
Christopher:Now she does allow you to if you want to you can purchase
Christopher:these at a premium package
Gena:There's a premium package,
Christopher:and the premium package gives you this it gives you Not only the ability
Christopher:to watch the videos later on your own time And, and again and again, if you want
Christopher:to, but she's also putting in a bunch of really great items that are of full value.
Christopher:So for instance, you'll get a full month of our, um, writing momentum
Christopher:membership just by joining the summit and, uh, getting that premium package.
Christopher:But.
Christopher:If you just want to join the summit and that's it, you can do that too.
Christopher:So let's check it out.
Gena:Let's check it out.
Christopher:So here on the website again, that's WMDeal.
Christopher:com slash 2024CBM.
Christopher:What a mouthful.
Christopher:All right.
Christopher:So, uh, Karin is hosting it and you want to tell them a little bit about Karin?
Gena:Yeah, Karin is, she is the CEO of GetYourBookIllustrations.
Gena:com.
Gena:We've had Karin on our podcast before.
Gena:And she's talked about, uh, helping independent authors who want to,
Gena:uh, illustrate and publish their own children's picture books.
Gena:And so she has a company that she helps with that, but she also does training.
Gena:She has a membership herself that she does training, specifically
Gena:for the children's book market.
Christopher:And it's kind of like a mentorship kind of training,
Christopher:really, really good stuff.
Christopher:And, um, uh, the illustrations that her book, the get your book
Christopher:illustrations does are fabulous.
Christopher:We've had some friends who've taken advantage of them.
Christopher:We told them about it and they've said, okay, we'll go ahead and try it.
Christopher:And wow, are they good?
Gena:Yeah, they are.
Gena:The thing about Karin's, um, company that she has, the Get Your Book
Gena:Illustrations, is that she works, from my understanding, she works
Gena:with illustrators all over the world.
Gena:And so there are all these different styles.
Gena:So if you're an independent, author.
Gena:And you're thinking, I want to publish my children's book, but I
Gena:don't know an, an artist or I know what style I want, but I don't know
Gena:anybody who does that exact style.
Gena:You can just kind of sift through all the different types of illustrations that
Gena:Karin has access to and the illustrators who do those different styles.
Gena:So it's really a lot of fun.
Gena:It's kind of like you can go on there and do a dream.
Gena:You know, you can do your dream wishlist right there of, one day I want a book that
Gena:looks like that, and you can work on it.
Gena:But let's get back to the children's book Mastery.
Christopher:Yes.
Christopher:So this, if you get your, um, uh, free ticket, you also get a free playbook.
Christopher:What this playbook is, is a, is a short book that just has some of the
Christopher:best tips from the sessions I believe, that are in this, uh, whole summit.
Christopher:And so that's, it's a nice bonus that you get.
Christopher:Again, that doesn't cost you anything.
Christopher:It's going to start off with a kickoff party, which is kind
Christopher:of fun that Karin's hosting.
Christopher:And then, Oh, look, the first, Hey, I'm the first speaker this year.
Christopher:I'm talking about writing by the numbers.
Christopher:I'm going to show you how powerful numbers are when it comes to your writing.
Christopher:Have you ever thought, man, I don't know how I'm going to finish
Christopher:a book that's 40, 000 words.
Christopher:That will take forever.
Christopher:I'm going to show you how you can use those numbers to your advantage and break
Christopher:it down to where you're going to find, man, I might be able to finish something
Christopher:like that in just a month or two.
Christopher:It's kind of crazy.
Gena:If you are someone who enjoys, um, systems.
Gena:Chris is definitely somebody who, um, works to crack the code
Gena:on systems and productivity.
Gena:So, um, you're, if you are that kind of person, or if you just want to be
Gena:inspired, I think that, that session that you give, you've talked about
Gena:this before with our membership site, with our memberships, and you've, um,
Gena:walked them through what does it mean?
Gena:How does A little bit writing a little every day really add up and
Gena:how can you make the most of that?
Gena:So yeah, that was beautiful.
Christopher:Uh, then she's uh, let's see They've got uh, Daniel is i'm not i'm not
Christopher:gonna say everyone's last names because I know i'm gonna butcher some of the names
Christopher:So i'm just gonna say the first name.
Christopher:Is that okay?
Christopher:That's not cheating.
Christopher:Is it?
Christopher:It's kind of cheating.
Christopher:I'm sorry.
Christopher:I didn't say my first name.
Christopher:Well, no, I think I did at the beginning of the podcast.
Gena:Let me help you out here.
Gena:Daniel David Wallace is going to be talking about character first writing,
Gena:which is going to be, um, discovering the power of character first writing to
Gena:create an emotionally resonant story.
Christopher:That's good.
Christopher:Yeah.
Christopher:Uh, you know, I, I think so many times, I love plot, but so many times we can
Christopher:get so wrapped up in just making sure the plot's correct that we forget that
Christopher:our characters have to have a depth to them to make that story really live long.
Christopher:So he's going to talk about that.
Christopher:Sandra Beckwith.
Gena:Yes, she's talking about the three easiest ways to get
Gena:author and book publicity.
Gena:Okay, you guys who are looking for tips on marketing, you
Gena:definitely want to tune in to this.
Gena:Because publicity, PR, we, this is an area that Chris and I are
Gena:learning more and more about.
Gena:And it's just really powerful.
Christopher:Yeah.
Christopher:And she's an award winning publicist.
Christopher:And so you want to hear what she has to say.
Christopher:I think she's got some really interesting insights that you'll enjoy.
Gena:And she says that she's going to share shortcuts, shortcuts to success.
Gena:We all love those, right?
Christopher:We like the shortcuts.
Christopher:And then we have the business of being an author.
Christopher:This is, you know, here's the thing, being an author today, It is a business.
Christopher:You can't just think, Oh, we're just going to do our writing and that, that's it.
Christopher:It is full on business.
Christopher:And this is taught by Alexa Bigwarfe.
Christopher:Is that right?
Gena:Yes.
Gena:Bigwarfe.
Gena:And while we could go on and on about why writing today is a business and
Gena:it is, regardless of whether you are traditionally or independently
Gena:published, you have to get in the game.
Gena:You can't just think, Oh, I'm going to go right out in my cabin in the
Gena:woods and send off my manuscript.
Gena:And.
Gena:It's gonna, you know, do whatever.
Gena:It's gonna sell.
Gena:You have to get in there even if you are being traditionally published.
Gena:You got to get out there and you got to work it.
Christopher:This next session is also a marketing session.
Christopher:This is interesting.
Christopher:This is from Derek.
Christopher:How do you say his last name?
Gena:Doepker
Christopher:Doepker I think.
Christopher:And he's talking about influencer marketing for authors.
Christopher:Now, this is interesting.
Christopher:It's not how you're being an influencer, but it's how to identify
Christopher:the right influencers and get them to help promote your work, man.
Christopher:I'll tell you there.
Christopher:We get one of the biggest questions we get is, you know, how do I sell my book?
Christopher:And there are some new ways to do that through things like influencer
Christopher:marketing and getting insights into that.
Christopher:Super valuable.
Christopher:That, uh, that ought to be a good session.
Christopher:All right.
Christopher:That's, that's on the first day.
Christopher:So that's, uh, that'll be next, uh, on Monday, the 22nd, are
Christopher:those 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 sessions.
Christopher:And then the next day on Tuesday, we start off with,
Gena:A session that you're kind of interested to hear
Gena:what he has to say, aren't you?
Christopher:Yeah, I'm interested in this because we've had some people
Christopher:ask us about AI when it comes to writing because there's AI is basically
Christopher:getting into everything we use, right?
Christopher:Every app that I use has an AI feature now.
Christopher:We are not getting away from this.
Christopher:This is, they are building this now into the operating
Christopher:systems of our computers, right?
Christopher:Just this last month, Apple, and then the month before that, Google announced,
Christopher:and Microsoft, how they're building it into their operating systems.
Christopher:This is just becoming a part of our lives.
Christopher:So how can we use AI ethically, as writers, to help with our
Christopher:productivity without crossing a line.
Christopher:And so this, I think this will be a really good, um, uh, session.
Christopher:And it's he's going to talk about how to enhance your writing process.
Christopher:I look forward to that.
Gena:Yeah.
Gena:Well, and Marcy, uh, Pusey is plotting perfection, how to create
Gena:strong picture book stories.
Gena:Uh, you know, there's a lot of people who think that writing
Gena:children's picture books is easy.
Gena:Getting a story with a three act structure done in 32 pages with short
Gena:copy is not always as easy as it may seem and so This would be a good one.
Christopher:Yeah, this, this ought to be good.
Christopher:And then we have Krista Safarova.
Christopher:She's talking about nine types of stories to build connection with readers.
Christopher:So yeah, a lot of times, you know, we, we write off of our fancy and
Christopher:not kind of really focusing on what will connect with readers.
Christopher:What will draw them in?
Christopher:And she's going to cover that.
Christopher:That's, that's a good one.
Christopher:Even if you've got a manuscript you started to run your manuscript
Christopher:through that litmus test of, is it going to connect with readers?
Gena:Right.
Gena:And that emotional connection, especially when you're dealing with writing for
Gena:kids, because remember, you're not, you're not just writing to small adults.
Gena:You're, you're writing to children who are at different developmental stages.
Gena:And so you have to understand.
Gena:How to connect with them when you're writing picture books in a
Gena:way by understanding what really probably their, their wants, their
Gena:needs, what their expectations are, what their thought processes are.
Gena:There's a lot to that.
Gena:So definitely check that one out.
Christopher:Next is Shelby Leigh.
Christopher:She's got the Social Media Marketing for Authors.
Christopher:Hey!
Christopher:Gotta market.
Christopher:Gotta use social media.
Christopher:How do you do it?
Christopher:What platform should you use?
Christopher:How do you build your author brand?
Christopher:How do you engage with your audience?
Christopher:She's going to cover that.
Christopher:That looks like it's probably going to be a good introductory session to that.
Christopher:And a lot of us need that.
Christopher:So that sounds like a really, really good one.
Gena:And then Bethany Barany.
Christopher:This is the next day on day three.
Gena:Day three.
Gena:So crafting compelling characters and character transformation.
Christopher:Another good character one.
Gena:Another good character one.
Gena:And remember, this is for children's books.
Gena:But now I do want to point out that when we talk about children's books, that's
Gena:not just picture books, is it, Chris?
Christopher:No, no, no.
Christopher:Children, children's books is everything from board books, right?
Christopher:The kids like to chew on as they read it all the way up through young adult novels.
Christopher:So if you are writing any kind of children's book, even young adult, right?
Christopher:Something that you're like, Oh, teenagers will like this.
Christopher:You want to have compelling characters and you want to have transformation.
Christopher:And Beth is a wonderful teacher and I think you'll really like what
Christopher:she's going to teach in this session.
Gena:Yeah.
Gena:And I also love to go do a shout out for children's nonfiction because,
Gena:Oh my gosh, children's nonfiction.
Gena:It is, it was like, Uh, cause you guys know I'm a homeschooling mom.
Gena:So I have worked with my kids.
Gena:My kids are, our kids are older now.
Gena:They're more teenagers.
Gena:But when I discovered nonfiction children's book, it was like the Holy
Gena:Grail of our elementary education because it was just so much fun to have them
Gena:bring Science, technology, history, math, just all of these different
Gena:things that bring them to life through these, um, Non fiction picture books.
Christopher:And non fiction books use fiction techniques to
Christopher:bring that non fiction to life.
Christopher:So you'll want to learn from a session like this.
Christopher:I think you'll like it.
Gena:Oh, Arielle.
Gena:Oh, I'm going to mess up her name.
Gena:Uh, Arielle Haughee.
Christopher:I think so.
Gena:Um, how to work with an illustrator.
Gena:That's so important for those of you, not only for those of you who
Gena:do are doing picture books, but if you have any kind of illustration in
Gena:your book, you may be doing a chapter book, which has fewer illustrations.
Gena:You may be writing a YA novel, but you'd like to have some illustrations at the
Gena:end of the chapters or something that will, uh, be helpful to, to, to sit
Gena:there, to learn from someone exactly how to work with an illustrator.
Christopher:Speaking of which the next session is, uh, Tamara Dever.
Christopher:And now she's going to talk about book design, the ins and outs in terms of.
Christopher:All the different type parts of design because when you get into
Christopher:it, you start realizing, Oh, it's not just getting a picture.
Christopher:It's thinking of about bleed and trim and gutter and typography
Christopher:and layout techniques, right?
Christopher:All of these things are important.
Christopher:And even if you're not doing it yourself, you want to understand these terms and
Christopher:How they work in book design so that you can work with that, uh, illustrator
Christopher:as, uh, Ariel was talking about.
Christopher:So I would attempt both those sessions if you're doing any kind
Christopher:of book with illustrations with, uh, design to it, which is fine.
Christopher:Pretty much any book.
Gena:Yeah, and Maria Dismondy, An Insider's Guide to Getting
Gena:Traditionally Published.
Gena:I know there are some of you out there who really have your heart set on
Gena:getting traditionally published, so you definitely want to check that out
Gena:because, uh, the traditional publishing market is really changing a lot.
Christopher:A lot.
Gena:A lot.
Gena:There's a lot of kind of condensing and different houses that are
Gena:building, uh, or buying one another up.
Gena:And so you want to learn about that.
Gena:So definitely check that out if traditional publishing is on the horizon.
Christopher:There's a lot of authors that don't want to self publish.
Christopher:They want to try traditionally publishing.
Christopher:And so this is good to find out where this is state of where it's at today.
Christopher:And then, Oh, this, I know this next author real well.
Christopher:Her name is Gena.
Christopher:Hey, that's you.
Christopher:And why don't you tell everyone what you're talking about?
Gena:Okay.
Gena:So I talked about how to develop an audience through email marketing.
Gena:You guys know, we've talked a lot about email marketing
Gena:on this podcast for authors.
Gena:And so I really go through some of the tips, why email marketing is so
Gena:important, how to make the most of it.
Gena:What are some ways that you can build your list?
Gena:So I go through a lot of those different answering those different questions on it.
Gena:And, um, just really hopefully helping people know, you guys know that, uh,
Gena:for us, we believe email marketing is where it is at for authors, because
Gena:you want to be able to develop a relationship with your readers.
Gena:And the way that you can do that is through just a regular email newsletter.
Gena:And so definitely check that out.
Christopher:Be so good.
Christopher:Now, if you've been listening to this and you're like, okay, okay, I'm sold.
Christopher:I'm sold.
Christopher:There's so many good here.
Christopher:We're not selling you on anything.
Christopher:This thing is free.
Christopher:It's absolutely free.
Christopher:It's called the Children's Book Mastery Summit.
Christopher:Go to wmdeal.
Christopher:com slash 2024 CBM.
Christopher:And we'll have the link somewhere around this video and you'll be
Christopher:able to get your free ticket.
Christopher:You'll get your free bonus that has a bunch of tips for children's book
Christopher:writers and you can also check out if you're interested in the premium package
Christopher:where you can keep the videos, watch them at your convenience, it's got a
Christopher:bunch of bonuses including a free month of the Writing Momentum Membership.
Christopher:Whew, that's a lot.
Christopher:We're not even done.
Christopher:We've still got a couple days left here.
Christopher:Yeah.
Gena:And, uh, Laura Backes is leading one of the sessions on
Gena:how to write classic children's books that stand the test of time.
Gena:And you guys know I have a stack of books that our kids had.
Gena:I am not letting them go.
Christopher:She won't let them go.
Christopher:We have bookshelves and we're like, no one's gonna read those books anymore.
Christopher:They're on to other books, right?
Christopher:Other newer, different old books for older kids.
Christopher:And she's like, never getting rid of them.
Gena:We're never getting rid of them.
Gena:And I have a feeling that once our children have children, they
Gena:will probably be coming home to, um, wrestle me for them.
Christopher:Yes, probably so.
Christopher:All right.
Christopher:Then we have, uh, Matthew Ziranek and he's going to talk about how to
Christopher:design in a winning, author, website.
Christopher:Hey, as an author, you've got to have a website.
Christopher:You've got to have a website.
Christopher:It's your, it's not just your calling card, but it can be a
Christopher:way to connect with your readers.
Christopher:We have found that our website is a way for people to find out about
Christopher:us, but it's also a way to connect and watch this podcast to find
Christopher:out about our membership, right?
Christopher:To find out about our books.
Christopher:And so, If you're wanting to design an award winning site,
Christopher:check out Matthew's session.
Christopher:Sounds like a good one.
Gena:Can I do a plug for you here?
Christopher:Sure.
Gena:Do you think people realize that you do author website design?
Christopher:We do.
Christopher:We do author website design as part of Writing Momentum.
Christopher:And I have done it, um, uh, just by myself for years.
Christopher:I've now built a small team where we help authors with websites.
Christopher:And so, yeah, if you need an author website, go ahead and, uh,
Christopher:let me know at writingmomentum.
Christopher:com.
Christopher:Just go to the, Form there and you can you can send me an email would
Christopher:love to help you help you build yours We try to make them very affordable.
Christopher:We make them with the latest technology and that's not what this is about
Christopher:But we're glad to let you know.
Christopher:All right.
Christopher:How about Lorna Bailey?
Gena:Lorna Bailey, uh, Simplifying your author business
Gena:with systems and processes.
Christopher:I guarantee you I'm going to this session.
Gena:I know.
Gena:I told you guys systems and processes.
Gena:It's his love language.
Christopher:Here's why.
Christopher:I have learned that productivity often boils down to having systems.
Christopher:If you just try to say, I'm going to be productive, be productive, be productive.
Christopher:You're going to burn yourself out.
Christopher:But if you can build systems and processes and use the right tools and apps, you
Christopher:can, you can 10 times what you do with your writing and with your business.
Christopher:I would attend this session as I would attend every session
Christopher:because these are just really good.
Christopher:All right, what's next?
Gena:And then Ray Brehm.
Gena:The tech side of being an author.
Christopher:More good tech.
Christopher:He's talking about websites, blogs, funnels.
Christopher:Hey, if you've all been listening to our podcast any time, you know
Christopher:we love the Marketing Funnel because it's a big part of helping you
Christopher:start a relationship with people who want to know you and your writing.
Christopher:And so, yes, get a good introduction to that there, um, as well as listen to the
Christopher:podcast because we talk about that a lot.
Christopher:It's good, good stuff.
Christopher:And then, uh, Laurence O'Brien is talking about the art of
Christopher:book presentation for promotion.
Christopher:It says, Laurence shares expert insights on how to prepare your book for successful
Christopher:promotion, and he's going to share how to optimize your presentations for sales.
Christopher:That's kind of interesting.
Christopher:Yeah.
Christopher:You know, we have to pitch our books a lot of times at conferences
Christopher:or to editors or to even people.
Christopher:Right?
Christopher:If you're, if you're going to present something somewhere, that
Christopher:could be an interesting session.
Gena:Definitely.
Christopher:I'm interested to see where he comes with that.
Gena:You know, there's a lot of people also who, uh, They are part of like
Gena:book, book events, like book promotion events where it's just kind of open to
Gena:the public and people can come through and see the different books that are out
Gena:there and what they are, what they are.
Gena:They can meet authors.
Gena:So I'm sure that this is probably going to give you some ideas and that's
Gena:what a lot of this is going to be.
Gena:You're just going to walk away more educated, but it also might on
Gena:the marketing side, give you some ideas for, okay, what is it that
Gena:I can do that feels right to me?
Gena:Uh, you're not going to want to do everything, but, you know, when it comes
Gena:to promotion, sometimes when we say promotion, it sounds scarier than it is.
Gena:And you, as you get into it, you realize, okay, maybe I'm not going
Gena:to be the headliner speaker yet of a big conference, but you know what?
Gena:I can go maybe promote at a small book lovers event or I can do something online
Gena:and so anyway this is just a way for you to get some ideas for book promotion.
Christopher:That's the first 20 we have five more left so stick with us
Christopher:five more that's the first 20 though you could so what what she's doing
Christopher:Karin's doing five people a day so you could see how you could spend your
Christopher:whole week and just immerse yourself in the children's book writing world.
Christopher:I love that.
Christopher:Love it.
Christopher:Love it.
Christopher:Love it.
Christopher:All right.
Christopher:What's Karin talking about on day five?
Gena:Karin's talking about mastering show, don't tell.
Gena:I think this is such a, it's a classic talk, but it is such a needed talk
Gena:because it's one of those things that, um, uh, sometimes I know for
Gena:me personally, I've had to go through a process of understanding when,
Gena:what, I thought sometimes that I was, showing when actually I was telling
Gena:and I actually worked with a coach on that and she was, she brought it to
Gena:light for me and she helped me see it.
Gena:And so now I have some more education on that.
Gena:We talked about that last week about investing.
Gena:I worked with a coach and she enlightened me to, to maybe
Gena:something that I could do better.
Gena:And so I know Karin's going to do that as well.
Christopher:This is one of those craft sessions that you really
Christopher:don't want to miss because even if you think, I don't do that.
Christopher:Go to this session.
Christopher:This will help build those synapses in your brain so that you will
Christopher:see when you're doing this kind of thing every single time.
Christopher:I love attending sessions like this and sharpening myself to this because
Christopher:it always makes me a better writer.
Gena:It really does because I a lot of times when you go to sessions like
Gena:this it'll sit there in the back of your mind and there's even been times
Gena:when I've heard someone talk about something that I haven't it's like not
Gena:it hasn't completely clicked, and, but as my mind is working on it and working
Gena:on it, all of a sudden I'm like, oh.
Gena:It totally makes sense.
Gena:And that's what that person was talking about.
Gena:And so, uh, yeah, go and listen and absorb as much as you can, cause it'll come back.
Christopher:All right.
Christopher:Next is our friend CJ Anaya.
Christopher:Now CJ is talking about how to use Plottr for children's book authors.
Christopher:So, so Plottr is an app that CJ has built.
Christopher:Uh, he's a real good guy.
Christopher:He has a great company.
Christopher:And, um, this helps you outline your book and plot it on your
Christopher:computer, which is really nice.
Christopher:And it uses a lot of, you can like pull in templates of some of the best book
Christopher:plotting techniques and use them here.
Christopher:If you're interested in Plottr, you can go to writing.
Christopher:fyi slash Plottr, that's Plottr.
Christopher:P L O T T R, and we have a link there to an exclusive lifetime deal on that app.
Christopher:It's really great.
Christopher:So C.
Christopher:J.
Christopher:Anaya, How to Use Plottr for Children's Book Authors, and then what?
Gena:April Cox is talking about the authorpreneur mindset.
Gena:So once again, we're talking about treating your writing like a
Gena:business and boy, start that early.
Gena:Start that, start doing that early.
Gena:I'm not saying that you need to get caught up in a whole bunch of business processes
Gena:when you're just writing your first book, but be laying that groundwork now so
Gena:that as your business grows, so does your processes and the way you approach it.
Christopher:And then we have one more here.
Christopher:This is Lisa Ferland.
Christopher:She's talking about how to succeed at crowdfunding.
Christopher:Let me say that again.
Christopher:How to succeed at crowdfunding for children's book authors.
Christopher:Do you know what crowdfunding is?
Christopher:It's creating online campaigns so that you can have people who will fund your
Christopher:book to be written, and then you've already got a built in audience who are
Christopher:going to be purchasing the book then.
Christopher:This is becoming, well it has been has been, for a little while now, a
Christopher:very popular way for authors to get their books to take off and to get
Christopher:them sold before they even write them.
Christopher:I mean, think about that.
Christopher:Would you like to have your book sold before you write it?
Christopher:This could be a really interesting session to go to.
Christopher:I encourage you to check that one out too.
