Transcripts

Steph:

They're the joyful agains our children shout on the swings, the

2

:

exhausting agains of cooking and laundry,

and the difficult agains of discipline.

3

:

So much of what we do

as mothers is on repeat.

4

:

So what if we woke up with clarity,

knowing which agains we were called

5

:

to, and went to bed believing we

are faithful in what matters most?

6

:

We believe God's word is

the key to untangle from the

7

:

confusion and overwhelm we feel.

8

:

Let's look up together to embrace a

motherhood full of freedom and joy.

9

:

Thanks for joining us for this special

holiday edition of the again podcast.

10

:

I'm your host, Stephanie Hickox.

11

:

And today I'm joined by

two of the amazing deal.

12

:

Ladies.

13

:

Emily is here with her

lovely daughter, Evelyn.

14

:

Because Evelyn is quite the chef.

15

:

She's a blessing to her mother every

day, of course, but we would love to

16

:

hear how she comes alongside her mother

to make special Thanksgiving traditions.

17

:

I'm also including my daughter Adeline.

18

:

To share with you her favorites.

19

:

Today we're covering our

favorite Thanksgiving recipes.

20

:

A few inexpensive ways

to decorate your table.

21

:

How to bring your children along,

not only in the celebrations, but

22

:

in the preparation for Thanksgiving.

23

:

A fun new tradition.

24

:

We've started in my family.

25

:

And a favorite scripture

we use as a devotion.

26

:

We're including our

recipes in the show notes.

27

:

So if we make you hungry you know

where to find all that information

28

:

Adeline: Evelyn, I've heard for a

long time about your famous marinara

29

:

and other recipes that you make,

and I'm so sad that you moved across

30

:

the country because I was pretty

excited to try some of your creations.

31

:

But recently, your mom posted a

picture of these beautiful pumpkin

32

:

cinnamon rolls, and I would love to

hear more about how you made them.

33

:

They were amazing.

34

:

Evelyn: Yeah so, , all you're gonna need

is a package of the pre made dough for the

35

:

cinnamon rolls and the frosting, um, some

baker's twine, and then cinnamon sticks,

36

:

but make sure the cinnamon sticks are cut

in half, otherwise they would be too long.

37

:

You're gonna start by putting

some parchment paper on a baking

38

:

sheet, and you're just gonna

lay the pumpkins on top for now.

39

:

Then you're gonna take your

baker's twine and you're gonna

40

:

cut into three different sections.

41

:

And you're going to create a star

pattern by laying them on cross.

42

:

And then you're going to put your

pumpkin on top of that star pattern

43

:

Emily: you've made.

44

:

Your cinnamon roll.

45

:

Yeah.

46

:

Evelyn: And then you're gonna tie

the twine around the cinnamon roll to

47

:

create your six different sections,

creating your little pumpkin shape.

48

:

You're gonna put your cinnamon stick on

top and then just bake it like normal.

49

:

And then you are gonna take them out of

the oven and just let them cool for 10

50

:

minutes while you clean off the kitchen.

51

:

And then go ahead and cut that

twine while it's still a little

52

:

bit warm but not completely cooled.

53

:

And then you're gonna

just take your frosting.

54

:

And I melted mine a little

bit so it wasn't as thick.

55

:

And I just drizzled it on top.

56

:

And sprinkled my cinnamon

on top and that was it.

57

:

It was super

58

:

Emily: easy.

59

:

Steph: Annaline, dOesn't

that sound delicious?

60

:

Do you know what I was so impressed by?

61

:

Not only is she creative,

but she's really responsible.

62

:

Did you hear how she said, use those

10 minutes to clean up the kitchen?

63

:

cleaning up.

64

:

I am geTting better to cleaning my room.

65

:

But.

66

:

It's tricky..

67

:

It can be tricky, especially

when you're getting older and

68

:

you have all those tiny pieces.

69

:

That you're setting up and

making adventures for your dowels

70

:

emily does your family travel a lot for

thanksgiving or are you at home base

71

:

Emily: it's looked

different over the years.

72

:

When the kids were small we, before they

started school, we would travel always.

73

:

We had no family around us.

74

:

And so we were traveling for

Thanksgiving and traveling for Christmas.

75

:

And then as the kids got older, started

school they were in more activities,

76

:

which just life shifted a little bit.

77

:

And so we weren't able to travel for

every holidays, so that usually meant for

78

:

Thanksgiving specifically, we were home.

79

:

and it was always for us a

rather quiet holiday, wasn't it?

80

:

Yeah.

81

:

Which was nice.

82

:

It was peaceful.

83

:

Yeah.

84

:

We just took our time and made our

dishes and just enjoyed the day.

85

:

And now we have moved and we

are a little closer to family.

86

:

So this Thanksgiving, we will

have a lot of family around

87

:

which we're so excited for.

88

:

it's all been in stages and it's

just changed over the years.

89

:

Steph: I can definitely relate to that.

90

:

We've had some seasons where we've had to

adjust our routines for different reasons.

91

:

Often go to my mother-in-law's

house because her birthday

92

:

is right around Thanksgiving.

93

:

it's really special to be with her,

but then I also feel awful for making

94

:

her work so hard around her birthday.

95

:

Making us this amazing meal.

96

:

And even when her birthday is

on Thanksgiving, she has such

97

:

a beautiful servant heart.

98

:

And I'm always so impressed how the

food just seems to peacefully appear on

99

:

the table she's wonderful at preparing

and her routine is tried and true.

100

:

And also,

101

:

She has a theme birthday

as maybe because then.

102

:

So I want to go to both.

103

:

But.

104

:

It kinda kick it, which one

I want to go to because.

105

:

they got the same birthday.

106

:

Steph: Yes.

107

:

our baby cousins were born on the same

day, so it's a pretty special day.

108

:

Yeah, so I want to go to both.

109

:

We.

110

:

Try to find another day to celebrate them.

111

:

Right.

112

:

Steph: Yes.

113

:

A few years ago, we got sick and

we needed to spend Thanksgiving.

114

:

On our own at home.

115

:

And it turned out to be a really

special, and the kids were starting

116

:

to get a little bit older and we

developed a routine and a system where

117

:

they each helped me make one dish.

118

:

And I love it because instead

of me feeling like I'm in the

119

:

kitchen all day long, missing out.

120

:

I get to enjoy them individually.

121

:

And they each feel so proud

that they took part in making

122

:

something for the family to enjoy.

123

:

So I plotted out and I tried to

correspond it with things that

124

:

were their favorite and that were

at their ability level to make.

125

:

And we were able to

repeat it the next year.

126

:

In each year they become more

and more confident in the

127

:

dish that they've been given.

128

:

So I agree, Emily, there are different

seasons And different times where it's

129

:

so special to be with extended family.

130

:

But it can be really fun to just

have a smaller, intimate gathering

131

:

at home with your immediate family.

132

:

And I'm thankful the Lord has given

me different ways to enjoy each.

133

:

But i really love the idea of bringing the

kids along to take part in it if possible

134

:

Emily: It is so fun to bring them in when

they're young because then when they're

135

:

older it just happens like second nature

if you bring them in when they're young.

136

:

And I love hearing Adeline

say that she Samples the food,

137

:

she's the mashed potato taster.

138

:

It's just so

139

:

Steph: I am.

140

:

Adeline: That's something that

you've always done Evelyn?

141

:

You've always helped,

142

:

Emily: Yes.

143

:

Adeline: caN you remember some

specific ways your mom brought you

144

:

into the process when you were little?

145

:

Evelyn: Yeah, so mashed

potatoes were always my job.

146

:

Those are my thing.

147

:

I always set the table from a few

years now cause mom has always been

148

:

very creative about setting the table.

149

:

So she's taught me her

different things she does.

150

:

So then during Thanksgiving,

she lets me use those skills

151

:

and create a pretty table.

152

:

Emily: And I would say, I don't

know, maybe four years now

153

:

she's been doing it on her own.

154

:

So the first year she did it, I just

stepped back, I told her what all she

155

:

could use, and let her be creative.

156

:

And I had to hold myself

back from interjecting.

157

:

It wasn't the best

158

:

Evelyn: the first year.

159

:

Emily: But she does a wonderful job.

160

:

She also makes your little place

161

:

Evelyn: cards you make for everybody.

162

:

Oh yeah, I love to draw, so I like

making little place cards for everybody.

163

:

That's great.

164

:

My oldest Lincoln is quite an

artist as well, and he does.

165

:

An amazing job of making

place cards for us.

166

:

And even if we're just having a family

over for dinner, he loves to do that.

167

:

And he's great at it.

168

:

And how about you adeline how do

you like to decorate the table

169

:

I love.

170

:

Do you put flowers on the

table because it is beautiful.

171

:

And I love.

172

:

Setting the table and put fancy dishes.

173

:

Mom..

174

:

Emily: It's so fun to use the

fancy stuff, isn't it, Adeline?

175

:

Adeline: What are some common

decor elements that you've used

176

:

for your Thanksgiving table?

177

:

Emily: So

178

:

Evelyn: mom has a really big collection

of fun antique dishes, I love

179

:

being able to mix and match those.

180

:

She also has some really pretty silverware

that's really fun, but my favorite

181

:

is she has little napkin holders.

182

:

She has some in leaves, some in pumpkins,

and they're really fun to play around

183

:

with and make different napkin folds.

184

:

Emily: Oh, yeah.

185

:

Eva always tries different napkin

folds every year, so it's always so

186

:

fun to see what she's going to try.

187

:

And there's so many resources to find

that on YouTube, Pinterest, there's

188

:

so many great napkin fold fun things.

189

:

That's so fun

190

:

and a great way to make it a

little bit different each year.

191

:

That's so creative of you.

192

:

Adeline: My boys really love to go and

trim some of the greens from our bushes

193

:

and then help scatter that on the table.

194

:

And it's free.

195

:

And then sometimes I'll just

buy a bag of cranberries.

196

:

Yeah.

197

:

And they're only a dollar or two, and

then just scatter those on the greens

198

:

and then put some little tea lights,

and that's been a really simple way

199

:

that they can help, and it's festive.

200

:

Yeah, and we

201

:

Steph: also can put candles.

202

:

Yes,

203

:

Adeline: the candles, it's just pretty,

204

:

Steph: right?

205

:

Yeah.

206

:

Yes.

207

:

And sometimes you've done floating candles

and you definitely want to keep those

208

:

centerpieces blow when you have little

ones, so they can see across the table.

209

:

I think it's time.

210

:

We heard about some of your favorite

Thanksgiving recipes, DEO ladies.

211

:

What are your top picks

212

:

Evelyn: what would you say, Evie?

213

:

So I have two favorites that I always

I'm super happy if we have leftovers,

214

:

because I will eat it for a week straight.

215

:

Steph: Yeah.

216

:

Evelyn: So I like the lef

I like the stuffing, or the

217

:

dressing, that is my favorite.

218

:

And then the green bean casserole.

219

:

But the green bean casserole has to have

the like, little fried onions on top.

220

:

So those are my favorite

221

:

Emily: dishes, for sure.

222

:

Those are always Evelyn's favorite.

223

:

We my favorite would be

the sweet potato casserole.

224

:

That's we always have the cranberry sauce.

225

:

It's so good.

226

:

And I've tried different recipes over the

years, but I think the one we gravitate

227

:

towards is it's a little bit of Jell

O and then mixed with The cranberries

228

:

and a little bit of crushed pineapple.

229

:

And a little, some nuts and that's

always the one we gravitate towards.

230

:

I think

231

:

Evelyn: it's a really good like palate

cleanser for in between little dishes.

232

:

Adeline: you know all

the verbiage, Evelyn.

233

:

I love it.

234

:

You're gonna have to send me those recipes

so I can link them in the show notes.

235

:

I'm getting hungry listening,

aren't you Adeline?

236

:

Yes.

237

:

It sounds delicious.

238

:

Adeline, can you tell what

your favorite recipes are?

239

:

My

240

:

Steph: favorite recipes are

probably Jell O, and I love the

241

:

potato and marshmallow casserole.

242

:

Adeline: Casserole.

243

:

Yeah, the sweet potato casserole

with marshmallows, and that's

244

:

what you help Mommy with, right?

245

:

Yeah,

246

:

Steph: I help

247

:

Adeline: her also.

248

:

And you help with a little

bit of everything, yes.

249

:

We left.

250

:

Um,

251

:

Steph: We got them on my birthday,

252

:

Emily: I love the matching apron idea.

253

:

Adeline: do you remember the appetizer

that we like to make that Ryder

254

:

is really good at helping with?

255

:

Steph: Oh,

256

:

yeah.

257

:

They're bacon wrapped dates

with goat cheese in the

258

:

Emily: Oh,

259

:

Adeline: He's so great at making them.

260

:

And as you're getting hungry,

cooking in the kitchen, to have

261

:

a couple appetizers coming out.

262

:

Emily: I would love that recipe.

263

:

Yeah.

264

:

For sure.

265

:

Adeline: and Everett, my son, is,

he likes to make a fun charcuterie

266

:

board For us as well, and then

to warm up some apple cider.

267

:

And those just, yeah, they tied us over as

the other things are finishing up and it's

268

:

been really neat to see what he creates.

269

:

I think he made a big turkey.

270

:

.

Emily: A great idea.

271

:

You always need something

to munch on while you're

272

:

Evelyn: prepping.

273

:

Because all the food

just makes you so hungry.

274

:

Yes.

275

:

Adeline: My oldest is

my mashed potato guy.

276

:

He loves them and so he's

excited to help with that.

277

:

I do too.

278

:

Yep.

279

:

Evelyn, do you have any

tips for making them

280

:

?

Evelyn: A lot of milk and butter makes them super creamy.

281

:

And then salt and pepper to taste.

282

:

My dad is always a taster

because he loves mashed potatoes.

283

:

And my dad also makes homemade gravy

out of whatever sauce is left from

284

:

the meat we're making that year.

285

:

It's really

286

:

Emily: good.

287

:

Yeah, he's always the

288

:

gravy guy.

289

:

Yeah.

290

:

That sounds excellent.

291

:

I have to share this crazy story

because it's one of my worst cooking.

292

:

Moments.

293

:

But a couple of years ago.

294

:

It wasn't even Thanksgiving.

295

:

It was actually when turkeys go on

sale after Thanksgiving and I think

296

:

we had traveled for Thanksgiving.

297

:

And so I thought, oh, well, I

didn't make a Turkey this year.

298

:

So I'm just going to make kind

of a mini Thanksgiving feast.

299

:

And I was trying to put it all together

and it wasn't as peaceful of a process.

300

:

Cause I was just trying to squeeze it in.

301

:

And I was attempting to pour the drippings

from the roasting pan into a sauce pan

302

:

that was on the stove to make gravy.

303

:

And I thought I was being so careful

and just tipping, tipping, slightly.

304

:

And all of a sudden, the whole

Turkey just slid on the pan and it

305

:

crashed onto the pan on the stove.

306

:

And tipped it over.

307

:

And then there was like

gravy and drippings, all.

308

:

Stove.

309

:

And it was a good lesson ask for

help just ask for that second set

310

:

of hands to hold something when you

need don't try to do it by yourself

311

:

Steph: it's a very crazy story.

312

:

It isn't

313

:

Emily: It's a very crazy story.

314

:

But it is also very hard to

get the drippings from the big

315

:

roasting pan to the sauce pan.

316

:

It is hard.

317

:

Adeline: I should invest

in a turkey baster..

318

:

, Adeline, you said that you love Jell

O, and Grandma Karin makes a really

319

:

special Jell O that we just love.

320

:

Steph: Yes.

321

:

Adeline: it's my favorite.

322

:

I just love it.

323

:

And she has a beautiful Jell O mold,

so It's a really pretty thing that,

324

:

if I don't have it on Thanksgiving,

I'm like Mom, I missed your Jell O.

325

:

we use a lime Jell O and then

you mix that with some orange

326

:

juice, and then cream cheese.

327

:

And mandarin oranges.

328

:

Emily: It's like the, it's

the thing you look forward to.

329

:

Adeline: Yes.

330

:

Steph: But Grandma Cheryl

makes an orange Jell O,

331

:

I think because we were so careful with

food dyes for many years and we still.

332

:

Try to avoid them as much as possible

but um thanksgiving my kids know that mom

333

:

will let them have a little jealous So

i think that's why it's such a novelty

334

:

Adeline: What about the desserts?

335

:

Adeline, do you have a favorite type of

336

:

pie?

337

:

I

338

:

Adeline: Don't probably have a

favorite because I like all of them.

339

:

. Yeah,

340

:

that's a good answer.

341

:

Steph: How?

342

:

' cause I am called Flavor

Girl but I will not

343

:

Adeline: eat an onion.

344

:

A raw onion.

345

:

But a cooked one you'll eat.

346

:

Yes.

347

:

But yes, we call her Flavor Girl because

she's very, she has culinary adventure,

348

:

what is your favorite, Emily?

349

:

Emily: Oh, my favorite pie.

350

:

I like pecan pie for Thanksgiving.

351

:

But Evelyn, in the past you've

made us pies make cherry.

352

:

Oh, I love your cherry

353

:

Evelyn: pie.

354

:

Cherry and apple pies I make usually,

but pecan is my favorite, but I've

355

:

never tried to make them before.

356

:

Maybe this year.

357

:

Yeah.

358

:

Maybe

359

:

this

360

:

Emily: year.

361

:

Adeline: Have you seen, I haven't,

I've made apple pies where I braid

362

:

the crust and it's really pretty, but

I saw one recently where you Like,

363

:

you spiral the apple slices, and so

they look like rosettes in the crust.

364

:

It just looks absolutely gorgeous.

365

:

So That's on my list of

things to try at some point.

366

:

Emily: That's so cool.

367

:

Are you trying it this year?

368

:

Adeline: We are going

to my mother in law's

369

:

Emily: Oh, okay.

370

:

Adeline: but I could offer to bring a pie.

371

:

That would be...

372

:

I should do that.

373

:

Emily: Pies are always

wanted at Thanksgiving.

374

:

100%.

375

:

And homemade whipped cream.

376

:

Adeline: Yes.

377

:

Yep.

378

:

It Has to be the real

379

:

Emily: Has to be the real stuff.

380

:

There's nothing like it.

381

:

For

382

:

Adeline: My mom makes this

incredible pumpkin pie with streusel

383

:

Steph: on

384

:

Adeline: the top.

385

:

So it's like a walnut, brown sugar.

386

:

It's so good.

387

:

Cause it's combining the benefit of the

pumpkin pie with The pecan pie, basically,

388

:

and so then you don't have to pick.

389

:

You're just getting it.

390

:

Emily: Like the best of both worlds.

391

:

For sure.

392

:

Pie worlds.

393

:

Adeline: Yes,

394

:

And I love, that you can make

pies in advance a little bit.

395

:

So it, I think you learn the tricks

that, okay, this actually can be a

396

:

peaceful process if we just map it out.

397

:

But sometimes it takes a couple years.

398

:

I'm making you hungry,

399

:

Steph: Adeline.

400

:

No.

401

:

The talking makes me hungry.

402

:

Because I thought

403

:

Emily: Oh, me too, Adeline.

404

:

I'm so ready for Thanksgiving.

405

:

But yes, the timing, that's one thing

I was thinking as you were talking.

406

:

Evelyn has mapped out our time pretty

well for dishes over the past few years.

407

:

And so she always has a little schedule.

408

:

Once we make them and time it out, she

has a little schedule on the island

409

:

and we just check things off as we go.

410

:

So she's really.

411

:

She's helped organize that for us

412

:

Steph: Okay,

413

:

Emily: because it's all about the timing.

414

:

Steph: Evelyn, that's so helpful.

415

:

thAt you mapped that out.

416

:

Yep, I do the same thing and then

they know the times that they're

417

:

going to be expected to help me in the

kitchen and it really has become...

418

:

It's really fun.

419

:

It is fun, and I can picture

you sitting on the counter with

420

:

me and your cute little apron.

421

:

With the spatula in your mouth.

422

:

So who is really wonderful at

helping with our turkey, Adeline?

423

:

Ryder.

424

:

Adeline: Yes, Ryder.

425

:

And me.

426

:

Steph: Yeah, Ryder loves all things

animals, and so that has to be his job.

427

:

And he does an amazing job of rubbing

it with lemon butter and the herbs.

428

:

And I do it, too.

429

:

And of course we have to make, the

turkey dance a little bit, right?

430

:

Yeah, it's gotta be the turkey dance!

431

:

Adeline: And then we put lemons in it.

432

:

and

433

:

Steph: then apples and onions and herbs.

434

:

Onions?

435

:

Adeline: Yes, but they're cooked.

436

:

Okay.

437

:

good..

438

:

Steph: And if I take the time to

put on fun music, just something

439

:

sweet in the background, I think it

helps set the tone for the whole day.

440

:

And I find I It does.

441

:

It does, right?

442

:

We just love to be in the kitchen so much

more when we've got We play Michael Bublé.

443

:

Michael Bublé Christmas

is one of our favorite

444

:

Emily: So

445

:

Steph: Yeah.

446

:

Emily: Yes.

447

:

Steph: well, we just

had snow on Halloween.

448

:

I feel like when that first snow hits,

it's permission to enter into all things

449

:

Christmas.

450

:

Emily: I, I totally agree.

451

:

Yeah,

452

:

Evelyn: for sure.

453

:

For sure.

454

:

I just decorated my room.

455

:

Yes.

456

:

Like, Eva

457

:

Emily: decorated.

458

:

Yeah,

459

:

Last night.

460

:

Right?

461

:

Yeah.

462

:

She put up her little mini tree.

463

:

so where we're at, fall

lasts for a long time.

464

:

There's still leaves on

and they're beautiful.

465

:

But when we lived where

you're at, same thing.

466

:

When that snow hit, I was

ready for all things Christmas.

467

:

Steph: we often decorate

our Christmas tree

468

:

the day after Thanksgiving, if we're home.

469

:

That works well for us.

470

:

I'm sure there have been some

years that if we're traveling,

471

:

maybe we do it beforehand.

472

:

But a tradition I heard of a couple years

ago that I started is to give each child

473

:

an ornament after Thanksgiving dinner.

474

:

Emily: that's a great idea.

475

:

Yeah, that's really sweet.

476

:

Steph: Hobby Lobby always has such great

deals on ornaments Any guests that are

477

:

joining us as well, I find an ornament

for everyone, and something that made

478

:

me think of them, we're not going over

the top with gifts and everything.

479

:

The focus is still on the

Lord and His blessings to us,

480

:

but it's a neat kickoff too.

481

:

Emily: I love that idea.

482

:

That is such a sweet idea.

483

:

Evelyn

484

:

And I got ourselves in a a

little pre season, Excitement.

485

:

Yesterday, we went out shopping

and Eva said, Mom, what if we had a

486

:

little mini tree for the counter top?

487

:

And so in the kitchen.

488

:

So we found these little ornaments

that are butter sticks and then

489

:

little, wooden stir spoons that we'll

put ribbon on and use as ornaments.

490

:

And that, that, will be it.

491

:

Adeline: That's so cute.

492

:

How

493

:

Evelyn: So we are dangerous

together at Hobby Lobby.

494

:

Adeline: It's,

495

:

Steph: I

496

:

know, and they do the, the 50 percent

off or the 60 percent off and then,

497

:

and, they're beautifully made.

498

:

The ornaments are so pretty.

499

:

My grandpa O'Malley, he's Betsy's father.

500

:

He passed away before I was born,

but I'm told that every Thanksgiving

501

:

he would read Psalm 103 and

he had a wonderful deep voice.

502

:

He was a coach of many sports So my

mom will always say, I can hear my

503

:

dad's voice saying, Bless the Lord,

O my soul, and all that is within me.

504

:

But I would love to share that

right now, some of those verses,

505

:

because obviously that's the point

of everything that we're doing here.

506

:

It may be a delicious holiday, it's

beautiful, and it's a fun, special

507

:

time with family, but we want it

all to point back to the Lord and

508

:

His goodness and His favor upon us.

509

:

Psalm 103 says, Bless the Lord, O

my soul, and all that is within me.

510

:

Bless his holy name.

511

:

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and

forget not all his benefits.

512

:

Who forgives all your iniquity.

513

:

Who heals all

514

:

Adeline: your diseases.

515

:

Steph: Who redeems your life from the pit.

516

:

Who crowns you with

steadfast love and mercy.

517

:

Who satisfies you with good, so that

your youth is renewed like the eagles.

518

:

And then it ends with, Bless the Lord,

O you his angels, You mighty ones who do

519

:

his word, Obeying the voice of his word.

520

:

Adeline: Bless the Lord, all his

521

:

Steph: hosts, His

ministers who do his will.

522

:

Bless the Lord, all his works,

In all places of his dominion.

523

:

Bless the Lord, O my soul.

524

:

some years I've even taken

brown wrapping paper.

525

:

And cover the table with that.

526

:

and then writing blessings on our table

that we think of and that's really

527

:

special or I've made a tree on our wall

and have the kids all month fill out

528

:

different things that they're thankful

for and we try to get as many leaves

529

:

on the tree as possible and we try not

to repeat anything and I think it's,

530

:

it is a wonderful month to focus on it.

531

:

Obviously, we want gratitude to be

something we're doing all year, but

532

:

to train them to have eyes to see

the goodness of the Lord all around.

533

:

.

So it I think before the busyness of the Christmas season kicks in,

534

:

it is a nice time to reset our

hearts about what it's all about.

535

:

Emily: which we have so much, and

then headed to Advent and Christmas.

536

:

It's just a nice reset..

537

:

Steph: We also love to

play games as a family.

538

:

Oh, yeah.

539

:

Evelyn: when we're all waking up.

540

:

we get donuts and then we watch

the Macy's Day and we look through

541

:

Black Friday deal magazines.

542

:

Emily: Yes, we do.

543

:

We, we do have the Macy's Parade

on while we're Prepping in

544

:

the very beginning in morning.

545

:

Yes.

546

:

. Steph: Thank you so much for joining us.

547

:

It's really special to hear about your

different traditions and the ways that

548

:

you've brought Evelyn along in the process

over the years, and I can tell that

549

:

she's such a blessing and a help because

she's been allowed that opportunity And

550

:

I'm really excited to try those cinnamon

551

:

Adeline: rolls.

552

:

So thank you for sharing about that

553

:

Emily: yes, you all too.

554

:

Thank you.

555

:

And thank you for listening.

556

:

Just a heads up.

557

:

We won't be releasing.

558

:

An episode the day before Thanksgiving,

but we will have a bonus Thanksgiving

559

:

devotional episode coming later this week.

560

:

You may even want to play

that for your family,

561

:

or you may just want to listen

to it to prepare your own heart.

562

:

To worship the Lord, this Thanksgiving.

563

:

Don't forget that the recipes we shared.

564

:
