2
:Welcome back my friends
and welcome to:
3
:Is there anything better than a
fresh brand new year, especially
4
:if you are a Golnar like me and
you like fresh starts and you like.
5
:Accomplishing things and setting
up goals and systems and things in
6
:place for it, an amazing new year.
7
:It is so exciting.
8
:It's like my favorite
time in the whole year.
9
:But today, I want to look at goals a
little bit differently because everybody
10
:in their dog is talking about goals this
week and what I don't want for each of us.
11
:Is to create these big, massive goals,
and then just feel disappointed when
12
:we don't know how to reach them.
13
:Or we don't reach them
in the timeframe we want.
14
:I want to look at goals a
little bit differently today and
15
:I originally read two books.
16
:That prompted this discussion.
17
:the first one is.
18
:John, all it takes as a goal.
19
:And the other one is atomic habits,
both really phenomenal goal books.
20
:And.
21
:Coincidentally, I got the same
message overall out of both of them.
22
:And it was this.
23
:Stop trying to conquer
the world with your goals.
24
:Start small.
25
:That's not to say we
can't conquer the world.
26
:That's not to say we can't do amazing,
huge, incredible things, but we have
27
:to start with small habits first.
28
:Now being a dreamer myself,
I love to live in the chaos.
29
:Of doing all the things, I always set
huge new year's resolutions and big goals.
30
:And to my credit.
31
:I accomplish a lot of things and I'm
pretty proud of myself in that way.
32
:But, you know, come August,
September, I tend to lose.
33
:Motivation on the things
that I started in January.
34
:So we're going to look at things
completely differently this
35
:year, and I hope it helps you.
36
:But being a dreamer is
a double-edged sword.
37
:You have so many things
that you want to accomplish.
38
:So many things you want to do
and become, but it can be hard to
39
:avoid becoming overwhelmed by all
the things you want to accomplish,
40
:especially in a fresh new year.
41
:Now you may have heard the term
big, hairy, audacious goals.
42
:This is a pretty common.
43
:Term thrown around in the business
realm, especially, and it refers
44
:to those goals that are impossible,
Impossible goals, where we want to go
45
:out and conquer the world and do things
that we never imagined we could have.
46
:I'm all for these types of goals.
47
:The problem is when we create these goals
without any sort of path to get there.
48
:Now we might have a few ideas,
like, well, I want to make a hundred
49
:thousand dollars in my business.
50
:I'll do so by getting, you
know, X number of clients and
51
:charging them X number of dollars.
52
:Well, yeah, that's the math behind
it, but how are you actually
53
:going to get those clients?
54
:What is your day to day actually
look like to get you to this goal
55
:of a hundred thousand dollars.
56
:The reason I like this atomic habits book
so much is because he breaks it down into
57
:like the submolecular level of goals.
58
:Your goal does not look
like slapping a big.
59
:Motivating sign on the wall and
then just hoping you get there and
60
:kind of manifesting in your mind,
although that's helpful as well.
61
:It.
62
:Involves breaking it down into very
basic step-by-step processes that
63
:you can work on every single day.
64
:So I think there's a place for
those big, hairy audacious goals.
65
:I think there's a place
for the impossible goals.
66
:But if they're not set up with the kind
of structure that is going to create
67
:success, then you're going to find
failure and you're gonna get disappointed.
68
:And you're gonna think it's your
fault when it's not really your fault.
69
:You're just lacking the systems.
70
:Now in atomic habits, the author
James Clair has this amazing
71
:quote that I love so much.
72
:He says you do not rise to
the level of your goals.
73
:You fall to the level of your systems.
74
:So how many of us have created
this big, amazing, impossible goal?
75
:And if someone had asked us,
what are we supposed to do
76
:every single day to get there?
77
:We wouldn't know.
78
:We would just say, well, Work on
my business or work on my health
79
:goals or try to get more fit.
80
:Do we have actual tasks every single day.
81
:What does this look like?
82
:What does accomplishing these goals
look like on a daily or hourly basis.
83
:It looks like small
and consistent actions.
84
:So, let me give you an example here.
85
:Let's say that you have a
goal to fly to the moon.
86
:And so you think the best way to do
that is just to climb to the top of
87
:the biggest building in your town
and jump off as far as you can.
88
:Well, after a couple of concussions,
you would realize this is never
89
:going to get me to the moon.
90
:But it seems like a good idea to get
as close to the moon as possible.
91
:The tallest building you
could find I just sleep.
92
:And it seems like a
very brave thing to do.
93
:Wow.
94
:That's so amazing.
95
:Look at her up there.
96
:Just jumping until she gets to the moon.
97
:But realistically, we know that you don't
get to the moon by jumping off a building.
98
:You get to the moon by spending a
lot of time in a laboratory, figuring
99
:out how to create a rocket ship.
100
:But look at those two different scenarios.
101
:Hiding inside a lab with rocket
ship parts does not look like
102
:you're actually making progress.
103
:Getting to the moon.
104
:You look a lot closer standing on the
edge of that building and leaping.
105
:But we know that's not how
you're going to get there.
106
:You're just going to end up.
107
:Bruce unbroken.
108
:So the important thing to realize
here is that the systems and these
109
:daily habits that, that lead us
to our goals are not glamorous.
110
:They don't look like
million dollar businesses.
111
:They don't look fun.
112
:They don't look exciting.
113
:Some of these tasks might even be boring
and require some discipline for us to do.
114
:Now another aspect from atomic habits
that I want to share is that the author.
115
:Teaches that we have to actually
identify with the person who accomplishes
116
:these types of goals before we ever.
117
:Can accomplish them ourselves.
118
:Now our identity can actually work
for us or against us, depending on
119
:what kind of identity we hold on to.
120
:Let's take the weight loss example.
121
:If I identify as someone who is trim
and healthy, I am going to take actions
122
:that a trim and healthy person would do.
123
:The trick being, even if I'm
not trimming healthy, I can
124
:adopt that identity early on.
125
:And then develop those habits.
126
:And create evidence for my brain
showing it that I am trim and healthy.
127
:As a business owner.
128
:Someone who never works on our
business or does it once every 10 days.
129
:It does not create a lot of
evidence showing her brain that
130
:she's actually a business owner.
131
:So ask yourself, what do I want to become?
132
:Do you want to become a successful
Christian business owner then
133
:what do successful Christian
business owners do every day?
134
:What do successful life
coaches create every day?
135
:How do entrepreneurs talk?
136
:What is a mom who
balances work and family.
137
:Successfully do everyday.
138
:What is her life look like?
139
:And how can we start
living that right now?
140
:Admittedly you buy, sometimes this feels.
141
:Like you're a fraud, that's
imposter syndrome for you,
142
:when you go in your office and you work
on a business that nobody knows about
143
:yet, that has no clients that is making
no income, but guess what everyone who
144
:is ever successful, has to work on their
business before anybody knows about it.
145
:They have to go in their office and
slog away at those tasks that might
146
:be kind of boring before they ever
get any compensation or any notoriety.
147
:Now I personally did not identify as
an entrepreneur for many, many years.
148
:I identified as a blogger as a podcaster,
as an influencer, as a designer, as an
149
:e-commerce owner, all of these things,
but I couldn't wrap my head around.
150
:Saying that I was an
entrepreneur that I was at.
151
:Um, business owner of multiple businesses,
even though that's exactly what I was.
152
:Once I finally was able to convince
my brain, Hey, you know what?
153
:According to the dictionary.
154
:You are an entrepreneur.
155
:I started acting more
like an entrepreneur.
156
:Because a blogger can just do that for
a few hours in the afternoon when our
157
:kids are napping, but an entrepreneur
has to get regular childcare.
158
:A podcast or might just carve out an hour
here and there to podcasts in her closet.
159
:But an entrepreneur needs a real office.
160
:And I even recently signed up for
a coworking space because sometimes
161
:I need to get out of my house and
have a nice, quiet place to go work.
162
:That in my mind was what an
entrepreneur would do to dedicate
163
:time to her business and space.
164
:Once I identified as an entrepreneur,
I created a custom email address.
165
:It was no longer.
166
:My regular personal Gmail address,
it was now info@bonniewiscon.com.
167
:It looks professional.
168
:I have a professional email
signature at the bottom of my email.
169
:Did I feel silly sending that out
the first couple of times you betcha.
170
:'cause like when I first sent
that out, I didn't have any
171
:coaching clients and I didn't, it
wasn't making any money as coach.
172
:But I had to do it to convince
my own brain that I identified
173
:as this entrepreneur.
174
:I also created specific working hours.
175
:And honored them.
176
:I bought a business planner and I take
an hour every week at the beginning
177
:of the week to plan out my week.
178
:And then I follow that plan.
179
:That is what entrepreneurs do.
180
:So if you're trying to convince yourself.
181
:That you need systems and processes
that an entrepreneur would do.
182
:It's time to start identifying as one.
183
:Or else.
184
:That identity is going
to work against you.
185
:You're going to say, oh, but I'm just
a mom with the side hustle and a mom
186
:with a side hustle does a lot less.
187
:Then a successful entrepreneur.
188
:Okay.
189
:Now I'm going to give you a
little heads up that next week.
190
:We have a phenomenal podcast coming.
191
:It is with my friend, Danny fake.
192
:She is a therapist and she is
going to teach us about parts work.
193
:Essentially, what that looks like is that
we have different parts of our brain,
194
:that advocate for different things.
195
:Kind of like the movie inside out.
196
:We'll talk about that.
197
:How there's a character called
joy and a character called fear
198
:and one called sadness and they
all have different jobs to do.
199
:And your brain, this is
exactly how your brain works.
200
:When I'm building a business, I
acknowledged that there are some very key
201
:characters that step up inside my brain.
202
:One of them is a complainer and
she has like a victim mentality
203
:and she's kind of a bummer.
204
:She sits there in the corner and
is like, I don't want to do this,
205
:and this is never going to work.
206
:How, and I haven't been
successful at this in the past.
207
:And whininess.
208
:Another one is kind of shame filled.
209
:And feels like an imposter.
210
:And every time I post something on
social media, that part of me is like,
211
:oh, people are going to see this and
think, I think I'm an expert and move.
212
:You know, Another part of me is
lazy and she just wants to curl up
213
:on the couch with some herbal tea
and a book instead of being on the
214
:internet and putting myself out there.
215
:I Guarantee you have characters
in your brain a lot, like these,
216
:maybe yours are slightly different.
217
:But I also guarantee that you
have a character in your brain.
218
:Who is.
219
:The dreamer and the doer.
220
:She needs to be the boss.
221
:I know this because if you're
building a business, you
222
:have a dreamer inside of you.
223
:I want you to find her and I want you
to put her in charge of everyone else.
224
:I know this sounds crazy.
225
:. But if she is the one in charge, she
is the one that will get things done.
226
:If you put the victim mentality.
227
:Character in charge.
228
:You're just going to be
a victim all the time.
229
:If you put the lazy girl in charge, you're
never going to actually get any work done.
230
:And you get to be the kind of boss
you always dreamed of having you
231
:get to be the boss who is kind and
loving to yourself and to others.
232
:But, but who also doesn't
put up with any garbage.
233
:She can kind of hug the other parts
of you and say, I get your pain.
234
:I get what it feels like
to feel like an imposter.
235
:I know this seems hard, but no excuses.
236
:We're doing it anyway.
237
:Now, if, if you can
get past the craziness.
238
:About that sounds.
239
:I promise you this will be helpful.
240
:Find that no nonsense boss
character inside your brain and
241
:put her in charge of everyone else.
242
:She will get things done.
243
:Now.
244
:I want you to also realize that your 2024
goals will not all be made this week.
245
:Those who try to create
new year's resolutions and
246
:create them all in this week.
247
:I tend to fall off 10 to quit.
248
:Did you know that there's a quitter's day?
249
:I think it's January 17th.
250
:It's like a nationally acknowledged
day when everybody quits their
251
:resolutions, that's not us.
252
:Instead, what we're going
to do is we're going to have
253
:some rough sketches of things.
254
:We want to do this.
255
:This week.
256
:I went on a walk earlier this
week and just kind of sketched
257
:them out in a note on my phone.
258
:I wanted to do this for my health
and this for my business, this
259
:for my spirituality, et cetera.
260
:But I'm not starting on all of them
today or this week or this month.
261
:Instead.
262
:I am going to create quarter one goals and
they're going to be like two or three tiny
263
:things and they are going to be so easy.
264
:You would probably laugh at them.
265
:They're going to be things
like eat one vegetable a day.
266
:Because, you know, Christmas, new
year haven't been eating so great.
267
:They're going to be things like spend
some time on my business every day.
268
:Super super simple things for me.
269
:To adopt and keep them in my arsenal
of processes to get to my bigger goals.
270
:And then when I've nailed those in January
or February, or maybe it takes me all
271
:of quarter one, then I'm gonna take it
a step up and I'm going to involve a
272
:few more, slightly more difficult goals.
273
:Okay.
274
:I've eaten a vegetable every day.
275
:Now I'm going to eat two or now I'm
going to write down every vegetable I
276
:eat each day so that I can keep track
and see if I can do more than one.
277
:Or whatever that may be.
278
:Whatever your big goal is.
279
:For the year.
280
:I want you to break it way
down into systems processes.
281
:Habits that you can incorporate today.
282
:And I want you to start so small that it's
laughable because the bigger you start.
283
:The easier it is to fall.
284
:Start so small.
285
:Give yourself a couple of quick,
easy wins, and then move forward.
286
:So.
287
:If your goal is to make $10,000
in your business, then I want
288
:you to work backwards from there.
289
:Well, in order to make $10,000, I'm going
to have to find X amount of clients.
290
:Great.
291
:In order to find X amount of
clients, I'm going to have to start.
292
:Telling people about my business, neuro
to tell people about my business, I
293
:have to have some place to send them.
294
:So I'm going to make sure I have
a landing page up or a website.
295
:I'm going to make sure I have a
way for people to schedule with me.
296
:So little by little we're working
step-by-step to get us to the next place.
297
:That will draw us closer to our big goal.
298
:Scratch out some big goals for this year,
but then work backwards and then create
299
:a ladder to your goal or a scaffolding.
300
:Remember our business is a rocket ship
that is going to take us to the moon.
301
:So let's stop jumping off buildings and
thinking we're being so brave because
302
:that's not the work that needs to be done.
303
:It's not the flashy stuff.
304
:It's the boring processes that
need to be done every single day.
305
:Conversely, if that's not
your temptation to go big.
306
:And dream about these huge
goals that never have any.
307
:Support to them.
308
:You might be the type that goes back
to the lab and hides in the closet.
309
:Don't be that person either.
310
:We need to be in the lab,
working every single day.
311
:Getting your office, get to work,
start small, create those habits.
312
:And I promise you, you will
not even recognize where you
313
:are by the end of this year.
314
:Thank you so much for listening this week.
315
:I can't wait for next week's
episode with Danny about parts work.
316
:Don't miss it.
317
:I'll talk to you then.
