Summary

Do you have a vision tucked away in your heart but feel too scared to turn it into a concrete goal? You are not alone. In this episode of the Arise, Women of God podcast, host Tamara K. Anderson answers the question: What does God say about dreams and goals?

Tamara introduces the "Caleb Method"—a six-step biblical framework for courageously claiming the God-given dreams placed on your soul. Using the powerful story of Caleb and the twelve spies from Numbers chapter 13, we break down why looking at the giants in your life shouldn't stop you from claiming your mountain. We debunk the myth that goals must be set on January 1st, explore why you must ignore the "majority rule" of doubters, and reveal why specific biblical visions are often delayed but never denied. Whether you are 25 or 85, Acts 2:17 promises that God is pouring out visions in these last days. If you are ready to move from fear to faith and say, "Give me this mountain!" this episode will equip you with the courage and practical steps to walk from dream to reality.

Episode Takeaways

  1. Look at the Opportunities (Not Just the Giants): Just as Moses sent spies to check out the Promised Land, you need to courageously list every opportunity to make your dream happen—even the scary parts. Don't censor the list; just write it down.
  2. Godly Dreams are Intentional, Not Impulsive: The spies took 40 days to search the land. Real visions require study and patience. Don't rush; wait for God's "appointed time" (Habakkuk 2:3).
  3. Report to God & a Partner: You are 95% more likely to achieve a goal with accountability. Report your findings to God first, but then find a trusted friend or group (like our Warriors Accountability Group) to cheer you on when obstacles arise.
  4. Ignore the Majority: 10 out of 12 spies let fear rule them. Most people will try to talk you out of your God-given dreams because they focus on the "giants." Be like Caleb and Joshua—choose faith over the majority's fear.

Reflection Questions

  1. What is the "mountain" or dream you have been eyeing but are too afraid to claim? Write it down today.
  2. Who are the "10 spies" in your life (people or thoughts) telling you that the giants are too big? How can you tune them out and listen to God instead?
  3. Are you treating your goal impulsively, or are you willing to "spy out the land" and take intentional time to study your options with God?
  4. Caleb waited 40 years for his promise but kept his spiritual vitality. How does his story encourage you if your dream feels delayed?

Ordinary Women Extraordinary Faith When God calls, we say yes. The Arise Women of God Podcast hello.

Tamara K. Anderson:

And welcome to another episode of the Arise Women of God Podcast. Today we're diving into this big concept of what does God say about driving dreams and goals?

First, I'm going to show you why your dream needs to be part of a courageous list before it moves from dream to goal.

Second, we are going to debunk the myth that you have to set a goal on January 1st, and if you don't, it's not worth doing and there's a reason why, and it's based in scripture. Third, we're going to talk about this majority rule and why people try to talk you out doing your God given dream.

And finally, we'll tie a scripture from the Old Testament that gives courageous and powerful vision and tie it with a prophecy from the New Testament about our day and why God is giving us dreams and visions. All right, well, let's kick it off.

I want to take you back to the time of the children of Israel who've just left Egypt and they've crossed the Red Sea. They're headed towards this promised land and they finally arrive. It all starts with looking at your opportunities.

So In Numbers chapter 13, Moses sends 12 spies into the land of Canaan, which is the promised land. And he sends them into this land and asking them for certain things. Let's see if we can apply it to us.

Today we're going to read verses 17 through 20.

And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan and said unto them, get you up this way southward and go up into the mountain and see the land, what it is, and the people that dwell there, whether they be weak or strong, few or many, and what the land is that they dwell in. And so he's saying, go check it out, see what's there, give me a description of it.

And it says in verse 20, be of good courage and bring the fruit of the land. So first, courageously look at your opportunities.

When you have a dream, make a list of everything that you could do to make it happen, even the parts that scare you. Don't censor the list at this point. Just have the courage to write it down. All right, let's move on with the story.

Principle number two, take time to study these options. Once you've written your list, don't rush. The spies in the land of Promise spent 40 days checking the place out.

They didn't just walk in and walk out. And I think what we can learn here is godly dreams are not impulsive. They are intentional. And so sometimes it takes time.

This is why you don't just set a Dream on January 1st, and if you don't hit it by then, oh, well, you missed the whole year. No, no, no. They looked at the ins and outs of the land, the ins and outs of all that it could be the takeaway of.

The second principle is study your options. Take time. As Habakkuk, chapter 2, verses 2 and 3 says, Write the vision. Make it plain upon the tables that he may run that readeth it.

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, which wait for it. So sometimes we make our list. We wait, we pray, and we make a plan. Don't be impulsive. Be intentional with God's timing.

Principle number three is reporting to God and a partner in the story of Caleb. It says, and they went and came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the children of Israel.

And they brought back word and showed them the fruit of the land, and they came and reported back. So now let's apply this to our day. We need to report back. Who do we report back to first? God.

God is the one who's planted these ideas and dreams to you in your mind. So first report back to God. God, I've made this list. Here's what I have. Here's all my possibilities and talk to him about them, counsel with him.

Say, hey, I'm really looking at this right here, and it's awesome goal, but it might be a little bit scary, and I really want to do it. Now, there's a second part of this. These spies also reported back to an entire congregation.

And one of the important principles you learn with accountability is that you are 95% more likely to achieve a goal if you report back to an accountability partner, not just God, which I encourage you to do, but I encourage you to find an accountability partner so that once you set that goal and as you navigate obstacles, because they will come, that you have somebody that will be there to cheer you on. So pick somebody that will be encouraging and give you grace, but yet hold you to that goal if you don't know who to pick.

I welcome you to check out the Women warriors of Light warriors accountability group. You can find it on our website to learn more about it. We have an amazing accountability group that meets Monday mornings.

We all have weeks when we're moving forward and weeks when the kitchen sink explodes. We give ourselves grace for those weeks knowing that God knows the end from the beginning and he'll help us reach our goal in his own due time.

I'll be sure to drop the link for our accountability group in the show notes below. You can check it out for free for two weeks. All right, on to principle number four.

And this is a principle that I think is super critical not to let the majority rule or fear stop you. Because you're gonna face this.

Anytime you said a God centered dream or goal, people are gonna try to stop you or try to throw doubt at your mind and in your heart. This is the point where Most dreams die.

10 out of the 12 spies sent into the land of Canaan saw giants and walled cities and they let their fear drown out the promise that God could help them and guide them. They went to the land, they saw this beautiful vision, but they were paralyzed by fear.

Don't let the majority's fear ruin or rule your dream or your vision or your goal.

Most people focus on why the dream won't work and you have to decide if you're going to stay in that bubble of safety and fear or if you're going to tip towards growth and God. Remember, fear is the thief of dreams. Faith is the architect. All right, this moves us on to principle number five, which is choose faith.

Tamara K. Anderson:

Right.

Tamara K. Anderson:

Caleb and Joshua knew that if God was with them, the giants didn't matter. Right? How did Caleb say so? Confident Faith. It was because he knew the dream wasn't based on him and his strength. It was based on God.

And with God, no vision was too big. Listen to what he says in Numbers chapter 14, verses 7 and 9.

And they spake unto all the company and children of Israel in the land, saying, the land which we pass through to search it is an exceedingly good land. If the Lord delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, give it us a land which floweth with milk and honey.

Only rebel not ye against the Lord, neither fear ye the people of the land, for their bread is for us. Their defense has departed from them. The Lord is with us, therefore fear not.

Okay, so they are saying, hey guys, you have a choice Here, if God is with us, he's going to give us this land. Don't fear, have faith.

This reminds me of that beautiful verse in Philippians, chapter 4, verse 13, which became my mantra at a time when I was doing this fear and faith battle, when God was placing on my heart, Tamara, you need to start a podcast. And it scared me to death. And I clung to this mantra at that time. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. And so I focused on faith.

I focused on God and thought, if God wants me to do this, I can do it now. Principle number six, fast forward 40 years.

Caleb is 85 years old now, because the children of Israel doubted they had to wander the wilderness for 40 years, Caleb and Joshua are bringing the children of Israel into the land of promise once again. This is Joshua's beautiful verse from Joshua, chapter 14, verse 12.

He says, now therefore, yes, give me this mountain whereup the Lord spake in that day. He's had his eye on that dream and that vision for 40 years. He wasn't going to let fear rule them.

He had his eye on where God wanted him to be, what God wanted him to do. And we can have that same faith and confidence. There might be delays, but it's never too late. That that's the principle. Give me that mountain.

I love how we can tie that to a verse in the New Testament in Acts, chapter 2, verse 17, which prophesies of our day, your young men, and I'm going to say young women also, shall see visions. Your old men and old women shall dream dreams. Now, whether you're young or old, facing a new year with goals or with fear, here is the point of this.

We live in the last days when God is giving dreams and visions and he is inviting them to step into them.

And we can follow this pattern of Caleb and Joshua, write the list, set the goal with God, have accountability partners, move forward through fear, not listening to those doubters, but with faith, focusing on God and He will give us that mountain. He will help you achieve your goals and your dreams as you step forward into what God is placing on your heart.
