Shownotes

What started as a few moms getting together for movement and connection has grown into one of Wilmington’s fastest-growing postpartum fitness communities.

On this episode of Whiskey & Wisdom, Chris Kellum and Tyler Yaw sit down with Brooke Pereira, founder of The Mamalates Group, to talk about motherhood, postpartum fitness, community building, and helping moms feel less alone after having kids.

Brooke shares how mommy-and-me Pilates classes, stroller workouts, and weekly walks turned into a movement bringing together dozens of moms across Wilmington — including a recent event with nearly 90 attendees.

The conversation dives into:

  • Postpartum fitness struggles
  • Building community after motherhood
  • Making gyms less intimidating for moms
  • “Babes and Barbells” at Lakeside
  • Starting imperfectly
  • Balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship
  • Brooke’s vision for coaching and online programs

Whether you’re a parent, fitness enthusiast, entrepreneur, or someone trying to build meaningful community, this episode delivers practical insight and honest conversation.

boys:

Welcome back to the Whiskey and Wisdom podcast.

2

:

I'm your host- Chris.

3

:

Huh?

4

:

You're throwing me off.

5

:

Why?

6

:

You looked at me like, "Go,"

and I was like, "Whoa."

7

:

I was like, "Where are

we, where are we looking?"

8

:

Right?

9

:

No, I'm just here to mess everything up.

10

:

Go ahead.

11

:

You can start.

12

:

Okay.

13

:

Welcome back- … to the Whiskey

and Wisdom podcast, everybody.

14

:

This is your co-host, Tyler Yau.

15

:

Today, I'm with my constant co-hosts,

Chris Kellum, and our special

16

:

guest today is Brooke Pereira.

17

:

brooke: Hi, I'm Brooke.

18

:

boys: Thanks so much for coming on today.

19

:

I appreciate it.

20

:

I was going through your form that we

had you fill out- … and everything, and

21

:

some of the things that you wanna talk

about, and key phrases was postpartum,

22

:

fitness community, and motherhood- Mm-hmm

23

:

which makes a lot of sense 'cause I

do see you a lot with Alex Richardson.

24

:

Yes.

25

:

Oh.

26

:

I just saw her today- Yeah

27

:

… brooke: actually.

28

:

I literally was like,

"There's an empty seat.

29

:

I should've invited her."

30

:

That's so funny.

31

:

Yeah, she's been

32

:

boys: on a few times talking about- Okay

… fourth trimester mission and everything.

33

:

Yeah.

34

:

And I saw that she's been at a

lot of events where you've been.

35

:

Yes.

36

:

And when I saw this, and I was like,

"Ah, this all makes sense now."

37

:

brooke: I see.

38

:

Correct.

39

:

Yes.

40

:

boys: That explains why I knew about

it at Kendra Scott- That's exactly

41

:

… because I follow Alex and she posted

42

:

brooke: about it.

43

:

Yeah.

44

:

Eh.

45

:

The biggest small town, you know?

46

:

Exactly.

47

:

I've

48

:

boys: always said that, yeah.

49

:

This is not a city.

50

:

Exactly.

51

:

No.

52

:

Yeah.

53

:

brooke: No, she's awesome.

54

:

I got to see her today, and she's

al- or, sorry, yesterday too.

55

:

Yeah.

56

:

She's just the best energy, so yeah.

57

:

Love it.

58

:

boys: So today- You get to try…

59

:

I know you don't drink a lot.

60

:

brooke: Mm-hmm.

61

:

boys: At least not a lot of whiskey.

62

:

Mm.

63

:

So we're gonna, we're gonna get you

to check out the Penelope Havana.

64

:

Tell me what you think.

65

:

It's part of their Cooper Series, so

couple times a year they take some

66

:

of their, their finished whiskey, do

another finishing in different kind

67

:

of barrels to add some flavor to it.

68

:

These are Caribbean rum cask

finishes- Ooh … which is why it

69

:

has a little bit sweeter taste.

70

:

Tyler's gonna- Ruin it.

71

:

I just wanna thank Chris Matt, sorry.

72

:

Ginger ale.

73

:

all: Mm-hmm.

74

:

boys: I don't, like, I wouldn't

argue typically- … but this

75

:

seems too sweet for ginger ale.

76

:

Yeah, I was gonna say-

77

:

brooke: I know … it definitely has a

little bit, like of a sweeter finish, so-

78

:

Yeah … I feel like if ginger beer maybe

would be like- Yeah … complimentary.

79

:

Ginger beer would've been better.

80

:

Yeah.

81

:

Yeah.

82

:

boys: I was like, "Ugh."

83

:

See?

84

:

That's why I made the face.

85

:

Not 'cause I don't- You can

mix whatever you wanna mix.

86

:

I was just like, "Those flavors

together don't make sense."

87

:

It's sweet.

88

:

Yeah.

89

:

Real sweet.

90

:

That was a fast pour.

91

:

Yeah.

92

:

brooke: No, it's good.

93

:

I feel like it's pretty smooth and

it has definitely a little bit more

94

:

of a sweet, like finish to it- Yeah

95

:

versus like, I don't know, just-

96

:

boys: What you're used to.

97

:

Yeah.

98

:

Sweet.

99

:

Like kinda

100

:

brooke: punching me, so yeah.

101

:

boys: No, we, one day we'll actually

find somebody to edit through all of

102

:

our stuff, but I always like to point

out like what seasons these would

103

:

be drinkin'- Mm-hmm … or drunkin'.

104

:

I'm not good at English.

105

:

Drink in, in?

106

:

brooke: I don't know.

107

:

Cool.

108

:

Got 'em

109

:

boys: all.

110

:

Which- What seasons I

would drink these with.

111

:

So Havana s- does come out seasonally,

so it typically comes out in springtime,

112

:

so perfect time I would suggest for it.

113

:

Our other favorite from this collection is

the Rio- Rio … which is even sweeter- Oh

114

:

… but smoother, but it's still whiskey.

115

:

So like it is a summer whiskey

and it comes out in summertime.

116

:

But it doesn't.

117

:

I was gonna say.

118

:

It doesn't

119

:

brooke: come out in the summer?

120

:

boys: Like they say summertime- Oh … but

the bottles just got into the stores- Oh,

121

:

well- … like in April … everything's

122

:

brooke: like a season ahead.

123

:

Correct.

124

:

It's for the summer.

125

:

Yep.

126

:

You're right.

127

:

They're hoping you'll keep it on

your shelf for a little while.

128

:

Yeah.

129

:

That's not gonna last.

130

:

It

131

:

boys: is so delicious.

132

:

I have to s- I was thinking of food,

so I have to steer away from that.

133

:

Yeah, don't do that.

134

:

You already had your food.

135

:

I did.

136

:

Coffee's in.

137

:

It's a running joke.

138

:

I have at least one food episode- Oh, okay

139

:

where I ask some food question.

140

:

Okay.

141

:

Well, I

142

:

brooke: did kinda have like

a food related question.

143

:

Okay.

144

:

What would you pair that with?

145

:

boys: Food-wise?

146

:

Mm-hmm.

147

:

Mm.

148

:

So this to me would be more of

a dessert- Mm-hmm … cocktail.

149

:

Like I wouldn't be drinking

this to start the day, but

150

:

definitely- … on the back end.

151

:

There is banana bread flavors, so like

this would be- I'll have to choose

152

:

when we did, drink it to start the day.

153

:

Yeah.

154

:

So I was like, "Oh."

155

:

Yeah.

156

:

But I mean like- Start the day … I

would drink, I would drink it with

157

:

d- With breakfast … dessert.

158

:

I think banana bread- Ooh, or

like a bread pudding- Mm … this

159

:

would taste really good with.

160

:

From Nom Nom Nom?

161

:

I don't know if they have a bread pudding,

but just bread pudding- … in general.

162

:

I don't even like bread pudding like

that, but this, this would be a good one.

163

:

brooke: Yeah.

164

:

Does sound like it could pair nicely.

165

:

Yeah.

166

:

Something

167

:

boys: different.

168

:

All right, so if w- before we go too

far down the food rabbit hole- Well,

169

:

no, I was gonna- 'Cause we'll talk about

food the whole time That was the food.

170

:

I was gonna be like, talking

about pairing nicely, you do

171

:

a moth- mommy and me events.

172

:

Mm-hmm.

173

:

So you pair moms with their

kids- Yes … doing things.

174

:

Yes.

175

:

We're dudes.

176

:

With kids,

177

:

brooke: without kids.

178

:

boys: I have kids.

179

:

You have kids?

180

:

How many kids do you have?

181

:

I have two.

182

:

I have a five-year-old and

a just turned four-year-old.

183

:

Aw.

184

:

brooke: Oh my gosh, we're close then.

185

:

That's awesome.

186

:

Yeah.

187

:

boys: That's what COVID does.

188

:

That is

189

:

brooke: awesome.

190

:

That is

191

:

boys: what…

192

:

I mean…

193

:

Not wrong.

194

:

Yeah.

195

:

That was…

196

:

It's been a joke for you.

197

:

Yeah.

198

:

We, we know.

199

:

I'm new here.

200

:

Yeah.

201

:

I don't know.

202

:

I just…

203

:

so yeah, he has kids.

204

:

I have a dog.

205

:

I applaud.

206

:

Similar.

207

:

Same, same but different.

208

:

But like with the mommy and

me events, how does that work?

209

:

Or like what, what do you guys do there?

210

:

brooke: so I do like an array of them.

211

:

Like, I started just doing

mommy and me Pilates.

212

:

Mm-hmm.

213

:

So you can bring your baby or

you can bring your toddler.

214

:

Just like a way to have access to working

out, movement, and just like community,

215

:

but still, you know, including your

kid because sometimes it's really hard.

216

:

Like, you have that craving to still

like work out or be active, and you

217

:

can't always bring your baby to a gym.

218

:

Yeah.

219

:

You know, some people have access

to that, like- Mm … but it was

220

:

really difficult for me to find that.

221

:

And unless I was just out by myself

doing it, like, it just didn't happen.

222

:

So, I host it.

223

:

So I usually bring my son.

224

:

Nice.

225

:

He's getting older now.

226

:

He's two.

227

:

Yeah.

228

:

And he keeps me active.

229

:

It's just like a bigger

workout with him, so.

230

:

all: Mm-hmm.

231

:

brooke: yeah, so the

moms bring their babies.

232

:

They can put them in their carriers

or, you know, toddlers running around.

233

:

You're good to go.

234

:

It's, it's been the best, but yeah.

235

:

So we have a little fitness

class, and then we just kinda

236

:

mingle and mix, you know?

237

:

boys: That's awesome.

238

:

Yeah.

239

:

You've built one hell of a community.

240

:

brooke: Aw.

241

:

That's so sweet.

242

:

Just like, I was just

243

:

boys: like watching like how it's grown

and stuff over the like- … time you've

244

:

been doing it, and like you have a huge

group of like moms that come out for this.

245

:

Yeah.

246

:

Like, that's amazing.

247

:

I was even talking to one

of our coworkers, and she

248

:

walks the loop all the time.

249

:

And I was telling her who was coming

on, and she was like, "I've seen

250

:

that group walking around- Aw.

251

:

… the loop."

252

:

She was like, "I didn't realize there

were so many moms and kids that do that."

253

:

It is hard to miss.

254

:

Yeah.

255

:

brooke: And I, I knew there was like

a lot of moms here, but like our last

256

:

walk, so I do like a walk on Thursdays.

257

:

Mm-hmm … and we bring like a weight,

and then we do like a leg workout, and

258

:

then we do like isolated arm workouts.

259

:

Oh, okay.

260

:

So we can still push our strollers and

work out our arms at the same time, and

261

:

our last one was absolutely incredible.

262

:

I didn't know there were

so many moms in Wilmington.

263

:

So I had 90 moms signed up.

264

:

Oh my God.

265

:

And I was like, "How am

I gonna handle this?",

266

:

first off.

267

:

That's insane.

268

:

And we've just- I feel like the

community has just been so sweet, and

269

:

we had GPRIME, 'cause we parked there.

270

:

Yeah.

271

:

Mm-hmm.

272

:

They wanted to feed all the moms,

so they created- That's sweet

273

:

you know, like a small little menu and-

Wow … made like house made granola

274

:

bars and like muffins, and they had

like fruit out and stuff and- That's

275

:

amazing … yeah, treated all of our

moms, and it was just really beautiful.

276

:

That's cool.

277

:

And yeah, so it was raining, but-

Yeah … I still had so many moms

278

:

show up and that was just incredible

to see and witness like- I love that.

279

:

That's amazing.

280

:

Yeah.

281

:

It was really beautiful.

282

:

So.

283

:

boys: So did the whole thing get

started because you were missing that

284

:

in your life and just building something

that kinda scratched your own itch?

285

:

brooke: yeah, I mean that's definitely

where it like, you know, sparked from.

286

:

I would walk that same trail all the time.

287

:

Yeah.

288

:

I was blessed that I had, My best

friend, still have her, but she was

289

:

super close in like postpartum with me.

290

:

Mm-hmm.

291

:

She had her baby first.

292

:

I actually found out I was pregnant

the day that she gave birth.

293

:

Oh, no way.

294

:

And then I had my son on her

birthday, so we always- Oh, wow.

295

:

… were like, "Well, we're bound for life."

296

:

So- Yeah … I always, you know, had that

kind of small community and that support.

297

:

But like just thinking about someone who

maybe didn't have it or just had like…

298

:

People would always be like,

"I'm gonna walk with you," and

299

:

it was so hard to organize.

300

:

It is so hard to organize as moms- Oh,

for sure … like with babies' schedules,

301

:

your schedules, your wants, you, you

know, like what you have energy for.

302

:

And I was like, "I just need to like

put down a time, put down a path,

303

:

and like make something happen.

304

:

And if you wanna join,

come join," you know?

305

:

Right.

306

:

So that's definitely

where it sparked from.

307

:

And it's, I mean, it's so…

308

:

I'm so passionate about it now.

309

:

Like, I've always been heal-

into health and fitness and- Yeah

310

:

I just feel like it all just like kinda

came together like so perfectly, so.

311

:

Here's

312

:

boys: something I don't know about

it, is, is this an actual business

313

:

for you or is this just community

you built to help other moms?

314

:

brooke: It is community.

315

:

That's awesome.

316

:

I mean, I, I wanna say- Good for you … I

started it out of love, you know?

317

:

Just, Yeah.

318

:

But then I started working at another

studio in Carolina Beach and I've just,

319

:

I just feel like it's like kind of

evolving into more and just like giving

320

:

different access to different stages of

postpartum- Right … has been really fun.

321

:

So I want to obviously do…

322

:

It's still business, but I

just go off donation, you know?

323

:

So- Oh, okay … I want

it to be accessible.

324

:

Mm-hmm.

325

:

You know, f- because a lot of

moms stop working and- Yeah.

326

:

For sure … you know, you're

buying diapers and just baby toys,

327

:

and sometimes it can be hard.

328

:

So if you're able to give, then it's

like supporting me and helping me

329

:

purchase weights and props and stuff.

330

:

But- Yeah

331

:

if not, then, you know, I just,

I'm glad you joined, you know?

332

:

So, yeah.

333

:

boys: That's awesome.

334

:

Yeah.

335

:

Good for you.

336

:

Thank you.

337

:

That's something that I've always noticed

too, is a lot of times people will take

338

:

something that should have been community-

And then they over-business-size-

339

:

Mm-hmm … it, I guess you could say.

340

:

This, just because what you see on

Instagram and, like, social media

341

:

all the time, like, "Oh, make sure

your passion is your business."

342

:

brooke: Mm-hmm.

343

:

boys: I think there's definitely

a time and a place where those

344

:

things should be separate.

345

:

brooke: Yeah.

346

:

boys: Like, you should have a business

to help- Yeah … fund your passion.

347

:

Mm-hmm.

348

:

Because not everything that is

a passion should be monetized-

349

:

Yeah … in my personal opinion.

350

:

brooke: No, I agree.

351

:

And I've definitely, like, I mean, we're

America, we think money first, you know?

352

:

Yeah, yeah.

353

:

And I've had lots of other endeavors

and passions and things that I

354

:

enjoy doing, but stressed about

making money from it, and I, I was

355

:

so burnt out from it, you know?

356

:

So I think, like, kind of just going

into the mindset of, like, serving

357

:

and just, like, supporting has really,

like, benefited me, like, longterm.

358

:

Like, I, I am, like, fulfilled

when I do these things.

359

:

Right.

360

:

Like, it brings me, like, life and

joy, and just, like, seeing other

361

:

moms, like, just feel good, it

just, you know, it does something

362

:

else that, like, money can't buy.

363

:

So- Exactly … I enjoyed

just doing it that way, yeah.

364

:

boys: Yeah.

365

:

Yeah.

366

:

Life is so much more than putting a

dollar sign next to- Yeah … every single

367

:

thing that takes a moment of your time.

368

:

brooke: Exactly, yeah.

369

:

Like, stressing, "Oh, I have

to make sure I sell out this

370

:

class," or, like, you know.

371

:

So it's more of just, like, "Oh, I hope

it sells out so I get, you know, enough

372

:

people in here or, you know- Right

373

:

like, not miss opportunities

on a ticket or something."

374

:

boys: Yeah.

375

:

Exactly.

376

:

So all the thoughts that

run through my head.

377

:

You seem very stylish.

378

:

Thank you.

379

:

So the Chris thought

is, where are you from?

380

:

brooke: Where am I from?

381

:

Yeah.

382

:

I was born in Connecticut.

383

:

Okay.

384

:

I've been here since I was four.

385

:

Wow.

386

:

I can say over 20 years now.

387

:

Wow.

388

:

Yeah.

389

:

So I love Wilmington.

390

:

Never would've guessed.

391

:

Mm-hmm.

392

:

That I'm not from- Yeah … or

393

:

boys: I'm from Connecticut?

394

:

You're the next, next closest

thing to a Wilmingtonian.

395

:

Yeah.

396

:

I'm like, you've been here for well

over, I would say, like, seven-eighths

397

:

of your life, I'm assuming.

398

:

Yeah, I

399

:

brooke: mean, I'm, I'll be

32 this year, so- Oh, okay

400

:

over.

401

:

Yeah.

402

:

boys: Yeah.

403

:

So you're from here.

404

:

I

405

:

brooke: can almost say 30 years.

406

:

Oh my gosh.

407

:

When I'm 34 I can say I've

been here for 30 years.

408

:

It's insane.

409

:

I've- You don't

410

:

boys: look it, so.

411

:

Oh, thank you.

412

:

Yeah.

413

:

I was like, "Oh, that's better."

414

:

It's all the exercise.

415

:

It's the- The- … the

416

:

brooke: endorphins from serving.

417

:

Yeah.

418

:

We'll take it.

419

:

Yeah.

420

:

That,

421

:

boys: that's why Tyler looks

so much younger than me.

422

:

I don't think that's why.

423

:

He is o- It's- He is

younger than me … not

424

:

brooke: having whiskey for

breakfast, but … Right.

425

:

I could find a way to

426

:

boys: make it work.

427

:

Oh, stop.

428

:

That's probably what keeps you young.

429

:

Maybe.

430

:

It's, like, formaldehyde.

431

:

It's very preserving, yeah.

432

:

People look all the time, 'cause

we have the podcast, they're like,

433

:

"Oh, Chris, you know whiskey."

434

:

I's like, I mean, I know Ball,

but, like, I don't- I don't drink

435

:

it I'm, I'm not that deep into

it I don't have an issue, I just

436

:

… brooke: That's why my

glass is this big Yeah.

437

:

boys: Unless we're on vacation.

438

:

brooke: Yeah.

439

:

Everyone's excuse.

440

:

Yeah, for sure.

441

:

boys: True.

442

:

So what's your go-to drink on vacation?

443

:

brooke: Tequila.

444

:

Understandable.

445

:

boys: Yeah.

446

:

Any specific tequila?

447

:

brooke: I mean, it's gotta be blanco at

least, but … You don't do reposado?

448

:

I don't, I mean, I will.

449

:

My arm's twisted, but I would say blanco.

450

:

It's cleaner.

451

:

I don't know, it just feels-

Feels cleaner … cleaner.

452

:

Yeah.

453

:

Yeah.

454

:

Not all of them though, but

455

:

… all: Yeah.

456

:

boys: Oh, I did have an this is completely

off topic, I was just- We're getting

457

:

us back on the topic I love being ADD

458

:

well, no, it's still, it's

still off Like, let's do it.

459

:

It's on the topic of fitness, but it's

off the topic of the Mama Lotta stuff.

460

:

Okay.

461

:

I saw that you were involved

with the, what was it yesterday?

462

:

brooke: Lakeside?

463

:

boys: Yeah.

464

:

Yeah.

465

:

How

466

:

brooke: did you get involved in all that?

467

:

Okay, so that's like I feel like where

starting this has kind of like, I don't

468

:

know, just like evolved in different ways.

469

:

Mm-hmm.

470

:

I love that gym.

471

:

I I feel so blessed to

be a part of that gym.

472

:

Yeah.

473

:

I have had so many really awesome things

happen just with the people there.

474

:

Everyone's so supportive, and I've

definitely, like been, I've been able to

475

:

achieve fitness goals because of this gym.

476

:

Yeah.

477

:

I think they just saw that I have been

hosting community events, and so they

478

:

were like, "Can you pull this together?"

479

:

And I was like, "Yes."

480

:

You know?

481

:

Wow.

482

:

I, I know people, I

know girls, I got this.

483

:

And so I really had so much fun doing it.

484

:

They gave me a month, and

we pulled it together.

485

:

That's cool.

486

:

So it was- It was,

487

:

boys: it was called Babes

and Barbells, right?

488

:

Babes and Barbells.

489

:

That's right.

490

:

Yeah.

491

:

brooke: It was so fun.

492

:

They just want to kind of

introduce the gym a little bit

493

:

more, 'cause it is still- Yeah

494

:

relatively new.

495

:

Like, I think six months is really- Oh,

that's new … the age of it right now.

496

:

Oh gosh, okay.

497

:

And I think because of the way that,

I mean on, from my opinion, the way

498

:

that they advertise it on Instagram-

499

:

all: Mm-hmm

500

:

… brooke: it can look kind of intimidating.

501

:

Yeah.

502

:

And unless you walk in with like your

gym partner, I don't really wanna

503

:

go test out a gym that I'm not sure

what I'm like walking into, you know?

504

:

Right.

505

:

So we just wanted to introduce it to more

girls and show them that it's not scary.

506

:

It's a really amazing place to be, and I

think we definitely succeeded doing that.

507

:

Yeah.

508

:

We had a lot of people come.

509

:

That's awesome.

510

:

A lot of new people kind of pop in.

511

:

We had really, really awesome like

women vendors, like local women.

512

:

Mm-hmm.

513

:

So it was really fun and,

Had Green Bean out there.

514

:

Do what?

515

:

I'm sorry.

516

:

Had Green Bean out there, right?

517

:

Yes.

518

:

Yeah.

519

:

I went to high school with them.

520

:

No way.

521

:

Yeah.

522

:

Oh, that's cool.

523

:

I went to high school with both of

them, so I was like, "You guys gotta

524

:

come out and let's make a b- like a

custom coffee," and they were awesome.

525

:

They, they brought their

truck underneath the awning-

526

:

Yeah … which was really impressive.

527

:

And then yeah, it was just

really nice to promote.

528

:

I mean, 'cause I'm self-employed, I just

wanna help promote other businesses- Yeah.

529

:

Mm-hmm … and stuff too, so that

was really nice to have a bunch of

530

:

self-employed people out there too.

531

:

boys: Yeah.

532

:

Oh, that's neat.

533

:

I keep seeing- Because I remember

when it was two other gyms

534

:

before that True Fit, yeah.

535

:

Yeah.

536

:

And then I kept seeing people post

pictures in like the blacked out space,

537

:

and I'm like- Yeah … where is this?

538

:

This is

539

:

brooke: not Wilmington.

540

:

No.

541

:

It is.

542

:

And that's, that's what

543

:

boys: I love about it is because it's…

544

:

You get a city style gym-

Yeah … in a large town.

545

:

all: Mm-hmm.

546

:

boys: Mm-hmm.

547

:

brooke: Yeah, they're incredible, too.

548

:

It's a husband and wife who own it.

549

:

Mm-hmm.

550

:

Yeah.

551

:

And it's like faith-based and stuff, so

I've just never met more friendly people.

552

:

Yeah.

553

:

Very nice.

554

:

It's very welcoming.

555

:

Lakeside

556

:

boys: instead of Seaside.

557

:

They have, what, two other gyms, right?

558

:

brooke: I think they have two

others and they're over in Virginia.

559

:

Virginia.

560

:

Yeah, like Danville and…

561

:

Yeah.

562

:

Yeah,

563

:

boys: I was like Seaside

would've been cool.

564

:

brooke: I know, but, you know,

you gotta keep the brand going.

565

:

It's the brand.

566

:

True.

567

:

We're not…

568

:

We don't have a lake here, but-

True … it stands out now.

569

:

Greenfield

570

:

boys: Lake.

571

:

Not sure if you wanna

572

:

Green- yeah.

573

:

Not…

574

:

Don't, don't associate with that lake.

575

:

Have you been to Greenfield Lake?

576

:

Yeah.

577

:

Yeah.

578

:

Everybody's been to Greenfield Lake.

579

:

Yeah, I've had-

580

:

brooke: No … I've had a few

traumatic things hap- I don't know.

581

:

Just like not traumatic.

582

:

I'm- I just feel like you,

you don't know what to expect

583

:

walking around there sometimes.

584

:

No.

585

:

I,

586

:

boys: first off, didn't

realize how big it was.

587

:

Yeah, it's huge.

588

:

'Cause like growing up we would go

there and chill at the kids park.

589

:

Mm-hmm.

590

:

I would- And that's- Sorry, I was

gonna say- Not anymore … I would

591

:

brooke: never catch myself in that

lake doing the paddle boating thing.

592

:

No.

593

:

I had a coworker- You'd find an

594

:

boys: alligator

595

:

who would do it.

596

:

He's like, "Yeah, we went out on the lake

and I was fishing" And I'm like, "Pause."

597

:

Wow.

598

:

"Do you know how big of an

animal swims around there?"

599

:

He's like, "Yeah, he just…

600

:

I waved at him and just kept paddling.

601

:

He didn't bother me."

602

:

And I'm like, "You're not gonna catch me."

603

:

I'd be afraid to catch a fish and then

that alligator go after that fish.

604

:

Yeah.

605

:

You're not gonna catch me

doing the little pedal thingy.

606

:

You're not gonna pe- Nah, I'm gonna stay.

607

:

I will get up to the edge and like look

and stand on those roots, and that was it.

608

:

Yeah.

609

:

But I…

610

:

And then I go to the amphitheater.

611

:

But that was the- Yeah Yeah … last

time I did anything out there.

612

:

brooke: I haven't been

there in a long time.

613

:

I used to live like over there, so.

614

:

boys: Oh.

615

:

Yeah.

616

:

In Sunset Park.

617

:

brooke: No, it was like kinda close to it.

618

:

So when we first moved here, you

know, when you move into a new town-

619

:

Yeah … you don't know the location.

620

:

Yeah.

621

:

So we were like over there and my

parents were like, "We're, we're out."

622

:

They're done.

623

:

One, you're out.

624

:

You're like, "This

625

:

boys: is not Connecticut."

626

:

Yeah.

627

:

Yeah.

628

:

brooke: No.

629

:

The weather is way better, but

this location may not be it.

630

:

Yeah.

631

:

True.

632

:

Golly.

633

:

boys: Mm.

634

:

I do love it.

635

:

It is a beautiful area.

636

:

brooke: Greenfield Lake-

Yes … or Wilmington?

637

:

Beautiful.

638

:

Oh, okay.

639

:

Like Greenfield Lake- Yeah, no, it's

gorgeous … it has all the azaleas.

640

:

Yeah.

641

:

It has

642

:

boys: all the trees.

643

:

Trees.

644

:

Everyone should visit at least once.

645

:

If you're athletic you should

walk it, but that thing is long.

646

:

Just…

647

:

It's pretty long.

648

:

It's like almost a 5K.

649

:

Oh,

650

:

brooke: really?

651

:

Yeah, I think.

652

:

It's that big?

653

:

boys: Yeah.

654

:

Oh, wow.

655

:

You should do it.

656

:

Clearly

657

:

brooke: we have not walked it.

658

:

No, not the whole way.

659

:

I'll have to look

660

:

boys: it up.

661

:

I'm gonna let you ask the next question

while I look up how big this lake is.

662

:

All right.

663

:

Sounds good.

664

:

With what you have right now and

your child getting older, what's the

665

:

next thing that you're looking at to

do with what you've kinda created?

666

:

brooke: The next thing that

I wanna do is coaching.

667

:

Okay.

668

:

Mm.

669

:

So still, like, doing community things,

but making, like, a plan or just,

670

:

like, it accessible in different ways.

671

:

Yeah.

672

:

I wanna do, like, different

tiers of coaching as well.

673

:

More like one-on-one, but then

also, like, group coaching.

674

:

Okay.

675

:

Because I do, like, my love for

working out, you know, came from

676

:

the gym and, like, lifting heavy.

677

:

Oh, yeah.

678

:

And Pilates is great and all,

but I don't, like, I couldn't

679

:

just survive off of light- Right

680

:

weight.

681

:

You know, I think having the

balance is really important.

682

:

Mm-hmm.

683

:

So I would, I wanna start,

like, online coaching and stuff.

684

:

Oh, nice.

685

:

Nice.

686

:

Yeah.

687

:

'Cause I, even, like, as much as I

feel like I knew prior to having my

688

:

son, in the gym after I was, you know,

postpartum, I was like, "What am I doing?"

689

:

Or, "What do I need- Right

690

:

to be doing?"

691

:

You know, to, like, kind of just

gain my strength back in certain

692

:

different areas and stuff.

693

:

So having that guidance I think would

be really important, and, you know,

694

:

even if you didn't work out before,

like, it's never too late to start.

695

:

Right.

696

:

You know?

697

:

So I hope that, you know, I'm

able to kinda give that to

698

:

some of my moms and stuff.

699

:

That's good.

700

:

I get asked, you know, by them, like,

"Do you do, like, personal training?"

701

:

And I'm like, "I do, but I also

don't have, like, two hours to

702

:

carve out- True … without my son."

703

:

Yeah.

704

:

You know, 'cause I'm full-time with him.

705

:

Yeah, so.

706

:

Makes sense.

707

:

Yeah.

708

:

boys: You'd have to charge a lot

more to pay someone to watch the

709

:

kid and for you to make- Yeah.

710

:

Yeah.

711

:

You know?

712

:

brooke: I, and that's,

yeah, gonna come out.

713

:

It's just hard to get away from him, too.

714

:

Right.

715

:

I always, like, wanna

be with him, you know?

716

:

Yeah.

717

:

So it making that, like,

accessible I think would be it,

718

:

so that's in the works right now.

719

:

Very

720

:

boys: nice.

721

:

brooke: Yeah.

722

:

boys: Nice.

723

:

So you know it's, per

Google- … it is 3.9

724

:

miles- Oh

725

:

around the official trail.

726

:

Okay.

727

:

And if they do have an extended loop

area, they can go up to, add up to f-

728

:

so it's, like, four and a half miles.

729

:

Mm.

730

:

Did not know that.

731

:

I was

732

:

brooke: gonna say, isn't the

loop, like, three loops maybe?

733

:

Like the, the Rice- Rice L-

Beach Loop … L- Beach Loop?

734

:

Yeah, it's short.

735

:

Thir- yeah.

736

:

Or maybe- I think it's shorter than that

737

:

it's

738

:

boys: like…

739

:

Yeah, I think it's, like, 2.6

740

:

or something.

741

:

Oh, okay.

742

:

That's what someone told me.

743

:

Really?

744

:

brooke: Yeah, maybe it's-

745

:

boys: I don't know

746

:

… brooke: measuring all of our- I'm-

… our tracks right now … just going

747

:

boys: off of what someone told me-

Yeah … like, three years ago.

748

:

No, I'm saying really is like, "Oh,

I didn't realize it was that long."

749

:

Oh.

750

:

2.45.

751

:

Oh, okay.

752

:

I was close.

753

:

Yeah, that was close.

754

:

Within a mile.

755

:

brooke: Two and a half.

756

:

Yeah.

757

:

Yeah.

758

:

The loop is awesome.

759

:

I like knowing I have an end in mind.

760

:

Right.

761

:

Exactly.

762

:

Like, I know exactly where I

am, how much longer this is,

763

:

and I can shortcut if I need to.

764

:

boys: Correct.

765

:

brooke: So.

766

:

boys: Yeah.

767

:

And it's, like, all open.

768

:

Like- Yeah … I like the Greenfield

loop, but there's no shortcut.

769

:

No.

770

:

When you get started, you're s-

771

:

brooke: You can't- Yeah … you can't

walk Greenfield alone as a- female.

772

:

No.

773

:

So, you can the loop.

774

:

I wouldn't do it.

775

:

I was gonna say, I wouldn't do it.

776

:

As a guy.

777

:

So yeah, that says something.

778

:

boys: They went to CCW, so I mean.

779

:

Yeah.

780

:

Yeah.

781

:

brooke: Gotta bring something, right?

782

:

boys: Well, d- so I'm excited

for your new endeavor.

783

:

Yeah.

784

:

Is that a…

785

:

Is it something you're expecting

for, like, by:

786

:

sooner than- Oh my gosh.

787

:

Okay.

788

:

brooke: Absolutely.

789

:

Okay.

790

:

I'ma get this done,

like, as soon as I can.

791

:

Hopefully within like the

next six months to a year.

792

:

Nice.

793

:

So nice.

794

:

Yeah.

795

:

So we'll have to do a follow-up.

796

:

Yeah.

797

:

We'll have to do it then.

798

:

Yeah, I would love that.

799

:

What got you

800

:

boys: started in fitness to begin

801

:

brooke: with?

802

:

I mean I've been working out

for like over 10 years now.

803

:

Yeah.

804

:

I just feel incredible from it, you know?

805

:

I just- Right … don't ever wanna

age impro- backwards, you know?

806

:

Right.

807

:

And I just, you know, watched my dad work

out a lot when I was little and stuff and

808

:

that really stuck with me and I just feel

like I just wanna be strong too, you know?

809

:

Yeah.

810

:

And I'm glad I started before I had

my son because it got hard after.

811

:

I believe it.

812

:

It's hard.

813

:

100%.

814

:

Like you wanna like lay down and,

you know, hang out like postpartum

815

:

and stuff and I feel like that kinda

just like kept my momentum going.

816

:

Mm-hmm.

817

:

Like being like, "Oh my gosh, I'm gonna

lose like all this progress," or like,

818

:

you know, "I'm gonna lose strength"- Yeah

819

:

or like, "I gotta be stronger, like

to keep up with him," you know?

820

:

Yeah.

821

:

all: Mm-hmm.

822

:

brooke: I don't know if you've,

you have held a six-pound baby

823

:

for hours, like that's no joke.

824

:

Right.

825

:

Yeah.

826

:

Your bicep feels like it's gonna

cramp up- It's gonna get wobbly.

827

:

boys: Yeah

828

:

… brooke: six pounds it's like,

but holding it for like a long

829

:

period of time and then- Right

830

:

it becomes eight pounds, 10

pounds, and then your 25-pound

831

:

toddler won't let you go.

832

:

boys: Right.

833

:

So.

834

:

Roman still comes up to me at the age of

five and he's like, "Can you hold me?"

835

:

And I'm like- Yeah, of course … I

mean I still can, so I guess I will-

836

:

Yeah … take advantage of it while I can.

837

:

brooke: Yeah, you know?

838

:

My dog

839

:

boys: hit 20 pounds and I was

like, "I thought you were gonna

840

:

stop at like 12," which was like

a normal weight and then I've…

841

:

No kids, but picking him up and

having to like carry him from one

842

:

place to another- Yeah … 'cause

he doesn't wanna go in a kennel.

843

:

I was like, "Bro, stop struggling."

844

:

And- Yeah

845

:

… brooke: they just get more demanding so

sometimes you gotta- It's true … and

846

:

not to be like dark or anything but if I

ever had to, you see like the memes and

847

:

it's like, "Could you run with your kid?"

848

:

You know- Right … I'm like,

"Oh, I, mean, I've gotta do that.

849

:

I might have to do that one day."

850

:

You never know.

851

:

Yeah.

852

:

So I just wanna be strong and keep up

with him 'cause he's a strong, fast boy.

853

:

Yeah.

854

:

So.

855

:

I love it.

856

:

boys: And even more realistically,

like how many times do you have a

857

:

toddler that just takes off and like

if your toddler's faster than you,

858

:

like they're going into the road.

859

:

brooke: Yeah.

860

:

Yeah.

861

:

boys: So like that's things like

I've actually had to experience.

862

:

Like my- Mm-hmm … she's now four,

but like my two-year-old at the time,

863

:

like if she took off somewhere, like

I had to be, catch her and like- three

864

:

steps or like- Yeah, you, you gotta

move … your nose runs or something.

865

:

You know?

866

:

brooke: Yeah.

867

:

Yeah.

868

:

And

869

:

boys: then have the strength

to be able to pick them up off

870

:

their feet and bring them back.

871

:

brooke: And have a, like, hold onto the

wiggling, fighting, resisting toddler.

872

:

Oh, yeah.

873

:

Yeah.

874

:

So, so you can either do the hard

thing and work out, or you can,

875

:

like, struggle while trying to

manage your kids later in life.

876

:

So- Exactly … yeah, that's

kind of my mentality behind it.

877

:

Yeah.

878

:

I just don't ever wanna, like, not

be able to keep up or play sports.

879

:

Or even when- Yeah … I'm 80 years

old, because, well, I'm gonna turn

880

:

70, and be like, "You know, all of a

sudden I think I wanna work out today."

881

:

No, like these are habits- Yeah … that

I've gotta start now and instill in

882

:

other people now so that they continue

them for, throughout their life.

883

:

Yeah.

884

:

Yeah.

885

:

boys: Right.

886

:

Yeah.

887

:

Like, I even think about, like, my

parents are in pretty good shape.

888

:

Mm-hmm.

889

:

And, like, how they're still able to run

around and keep up with my kids- Yeah

890

:

… now, like, I would like to be able to do

that when, like, I'm even older than them.

891

:

brooke: Yeah.

892

:

So, like- Definitely … yeah.

893

:

Like, just get on the floor and, you know,

go down the slide with them, you know?

894

:

So.

895

:

Exactly.

896

:

Yeah.

897

:

boys: How many moms have started

working out, like, with your group

898

:

that have never worked out before?

899

:

brooke: I mean, I feel like

I've got a pretty good handful.

900

:

It's hard to tell sometimes because,

like, they are all in different seasons.

901

:

Right.

902

:

Yeah.

903

:

Like, I'll get like, you know, just a few

weeks postpartum, but then I'll get like

904

:

someone who's like three years postpartum.

905

:

Sure.

906

:

Yeah.

907

:

You know?

908

:

But I always like to hear feedback, you

know, like- Mm-hmm … "Is this too easy?

909

:

Is this too hard?"

910

:

Like- Mm-hmm … and everything's,

like, modifiable in the workouts.

911

:

Sure, yeah.

912

:

So, I always like to express that so that

you don't feel like you have to do the

913

:

lunges or you have to, like, you know,

squat the whole time, or you have to come

914

:

all the way down to the floor, because

we're all in different seasons and- Sure

915

:

I'm not really trying to,

like, whoop their butt.

916

:

It's really about just, like, getting

movement- Yeah … building strength

917

:

building your mobility and stuff, so.

918

:

Yeah.

919

:

I definitely have some fresh ones, and so

that's why I like to, you know, tell them

920

:

this is, like, beginner friendly or, like-

Right … C-section friendly because you

921

:

could work out all day long, and then you

get a C-section- Yeah, and not be able-

922

:

and those muscles are need, you know,

coming back from zero, but like- Yeah.

923

:

Yeah … so, yeah.

924

:

boys: Yeah.

925

:

Wow, I can't even imagine.

926

:

brooke: I ca- I can't imagine.

927

:

I didn't have a C-section, and I just

feel like they're so strong, you know?

928

:

Yeah.

929

:

boys: Yeah.

930

:

I watched…

931

:

I was watching Watson the other

day, and they had, like, one of the

932

:

main guys was having, was walking

someone else through a C-section.

933

:

And I was like- Mm … "Oh,

that's a lot more stuff going

934

:

on than I thought it was."

935

:

It's

936

:

brooke: insane.

937

:

Mm-hmm.

938

:

To like…

939

:

No, yeah.

940

:

That's why they hide you.

941

:

Yeah.

942

:

They don't want you to see anything.

943

:

all: Yeah.

944

:

brooke: I can't imagine.

945

:

I think, so, having moms of different

degrees of stories and stuff, I,

946

:

it's very inspiring, you know?

947

:

Yeah.

948

:

boys: Is there, like, a maximum

age for, like, the kid to come?

949

:

Like…

950

:

brooke: no, and I've been asked that

before, and I say no because, like, so

951

:

I get toddlers, but then it's like they

turn four, and then they wanna be…

952

:

Like, they wanna join in on the workout.

953

:

Yeah.

954

:

Right.

955

:

So they'll sit there.

956

:

They'll lift weights, or they'll

stretch and stuff, and I'm like…

957

:

So I don't really feel like,

no, there's not an age cap.

958

:

Yeah.

959

:

Because then I feel like they're

watching and they're evolving, you

960

:

know, and they're- Right … starting

to work out, too, and they grab a

961

:

mat, and I'm like, "This is so sweet."

962

:

Like- They're joining in.

963

:

Yeah.

964

:

So I, I say no, you know?

965

:

It's- I like it.

966

:

I let them manage or, and kinda dictate

if they feel like it would be too

967

:

much or not if they, you know- Right

968

:

bring them to class.

969

:

And sometimes it depends on,

like, where I do things, you know?

970

:

Mm-hmm.

971

:

Like, today at Kendra Scott

I didn't bring my son Right.

972

:

Because I was like, that'd be a

lot of merchandise I would have

973

:

to buy- Yeah … if he broke it.

974

:

Oh, yeah.

975

:

So but, like, in our studio, In a

Body, it's closed off, and it's safe,

976

:

and we br- I bring toys and stuff

so that they have nowhere to go.

977

:

They do try to escape, but- Yeah.

978

:

It's pretty enclosed- Yeah … and

safe, and they're playing with

979

:

other kids, so it's really cool.

980

:

Very nice.

981

:

Yeah.

982

:

boys: That's neat.

983

:

What events do you have coming up

probably in the next, like, few weeks

984

:

or few months that you're excited about?

985

:

brooke: I'm excited because

I have another, like, pop-up

986

:

event in Ocean Isle, Mm

987

:

with a really awesome swimwear brand.

988

:

They do mommy and me swimwear,

so they'll do, like- Oh, I know

989

:

that … adult swimsuits and

then, like, for girls and boys.

990

:

Gonna do that for, like, Mother's

Day, and I have some things in

991

:

the works for the end of May.

992

:

And then I think we're gonna do something

else at Lakeside as well, so kind of,

993

:

you know- It's all coming together

994

:

doing a little bit of both.

995

:

Yeah.

996

:

I had, I had my walk on Thursday this

week, and then I had a class Friday.

997

:

And then Saturday I had Lakeside,

and then today I had Kendra Scott.

998

:

So- Oh, wow … I'm like, phew, we're

out of, like, the, the woods and- Yeah.

999

:

… a very busy but fulfilling week.

:

00:28:57,579 --> 00:28:57,649

Yeah.

:

00:28:57,679 --> 00:29:00,109

So now I'm like, "Hmm,

what else can we plan?"

:

00:29:00,109 --> 00:29:00,799

And I've got…

:

00:29:00,799 --> 00:29:02,449

You know, I've been chatting

with some people, and I…

:

00:29:02,449 --> 00:29:06,209

You know, I'll pull things together

pretty quickly because the great thing

:

00:29:06,209 --> 00:29:08,069

about moms, some of them are planners.

:

00:29:08,159 --> 00:29:09,219

Some of them are last-minute, you know?

:

00:29:09,449 --> 00:29:09,779

Yeah.

:

00:29:09,779 --> 00:29:11,839

So I get a good mixture.

:

00:29:12,279 --> 00:29:15,249

So if I do pull something

together last-minute, then I

:

00:29:15,249 --> 00:29:15,989

still- You're still gonna have

:

00:29:15,989 --> 00:29:16,329

all: people.

:

00:29:16,359 --> 00:29:16,499

brooke: Yeah.

:

00:29:16,529 --> 00:29:17,539

Yeah, you know?

:

00:29:17,539 --> 00:29:21,769

And since it ha- is doing so well

word of mouth, you know- Yeah … it's

:

00:29:21,769 --> 00:29:22,989

like bring a buddy, you know?

:

00:29:23,429 --> 00:29:26,659

But I'm gonna do another, like, beach

workout, which has been really fun.

:

00:29:27,039 --> 00:29:29,449

We kinda like go by Oceanic.

:

00:29:29,639 --> 00:29:29,709

Mm-hmm.

:

00:29:29,709 --> 00:29:29,839

Mm-hmm.

:

00:29:29,839 --> 00:29:32,669

And we do, like, a morning beach workout,

and that's been really fun, and the

:

00:29:32,669 --> 00:29:34,089

kids just have so much fun with that.

:

00:29:34,119 --> 00:29:34,179

Yeah.

:

00:29:34,409 --> 00:29:34,979

Chilling is awesome.

:

00:29:34,979 --> 00:29:35,199

That's awesome.

:

00:29:35,359 --> 00:29:35,679

Yeah.

:

00:29:36,149 --> 00:29:37,029

Chilling with Mommy.

:

00:29:37,029 --> 00:29:37,269

Yeah.

:

00:29:37,329 --> 00:29:37,359

all: Mm-hmm.

:

00:29:37,949 --> 00:29:39,979

brooke: I have some friends

who opened up a new studio.

:

00:29:40,069 --> 00:29:42,249

They do, like, creative content and stuff.

:

00:29:42,279 --> 00:29:42,639

Oh, yeah.

:

00:29:42,669 --> 00:29:46,179

And they opened up a studio to host

events and stuff in, so I'm gonna do

:

00:29:46,179 --> 00:29:49,219

something there- Yeah … and have,

like, a color analysis, like- The

:

00:29:49,219 --> 00:29:51,029

girl who comes and throws- Oh yeah

:

00:29:51,029 --> 00:29:53,779

sheets on you and tell you what color

you look good and what you don't.

:

00:29:53,779 --> 00:29:55,019

So she's gonna come through.

:

00:29:55,359 --> 00:29:55,879

So what color- Yeah

:

00:29:55,879 --> 00:29:56,989

… boys: do you think you look good in?

:

00:29:57,099 --> 00:29:57,239

brooke: Okay.

:

00:29:57,239 --> 00:29:59,489

Well, I did mine, like, last weekend.

:

00:29:59,569 --> 00:29:59,739

Okay.

:

00:29:59,739 --> 00:30:01,879

And she said I'm, like, a, a warm autumn.

:

00:30:02,549 --> 00:30:03,199

boys: I could see that.

:

00:30:03,199 --> 00:30:03,879

brooke: Yeah, so, like-

:

00:30:04,659 --> 00:30:05,679

boys: Those are some really pretty

:

00:30:06,039 --> 00:30:06,199

brooke: colors.

:

00:30:06,229 --> 00:30:07,109

I don't know what that means.

:

00:30:07,789 --> 00:30:09,829

So, like, yeah, complimentary to you.

:

00:30:09,829 --> 00:30:10,499

So clip it.

:

00:30:10,769 --> 00:30:11,979

boys: Warm autumn color palette.

:

00:30:12,709 --> 00:30:13,809

brooke: It was really interesting.

:

00:30:13,999 --> 00:30:14,359

Thanks, Chris.

:

00:30:14,389 --> 00:30:17,409

I kinda figured all the things,

but it's really sad when you think

:

00:30:17,409 --> 00:30:20,589

you're, like, a gold girl, like

jewelry-wise, and then you're told

:

00:30:20,589 --> 00:30:21,599

you're silver, and you're like-

:

00:30:22,669 --> 00:30:23,619

boys: That's interesting

I'm still gonna wear gold

:

00:30:23,659 --> 00:30:24,719

I'm still gonna wear gold, yeah.

:

00:30:24,719 --> 00:30:24,869

Yeah.

:

00:30:24,869 --> 00:30:25,029

She

:

00:30:25,029 --> 00:30:27,839

brooke: did not tell me that, but

No … that's like what I heard most

:

00:30:27,839 --> 00:30:31,269

of the girls, like, "I swear, they tell

him, tell me I'm gold or I'm silver."

:

00:30:31,269 --> 00:30:32,429

It was funny, so.

:

00:30:32,889 --> 00:30:33,089

It's-

:

00:30:34,069 --> 00:30:36,579

boys: There's some people, 'cause,

like, I'm in jewelry sales, and

:

00:30:36,579 --> 00:30:41,049

I see people and I'm like, "You

should probably be wearing gold."

:

00:30:41,049 --> 00:30:41,329

Yeah.

:

00:30:41,329 --> 00:30:42,059

But I understand.

:

00:30:42,089 --> 00:30:42,149

Yeah.

:

00:30:42,149 --> 00:30:42,969

It's expensive.

:

00:30:43,809 --> 00:30:46,379

But when you transition,

you're gonna see- A difference.

:

00:30:46,379 --> 00:30:46,599

Yeah.

:

00:30:46,749 --> 00:30:46,779

Mm-hmm.

:

00:30:46,859 --> 00:30:47,179

Yeah.

:

00:30:47,469 --> 00:30:48,369

Like, just the glow up.

:

00:30:49,269 --> 00:30:49,909

That's- That is true … that's

:

00:30:49,909 --> 00:30:52,279

brooke: true that you do-

Yeah … I guess think about that,

:

00:30:52,279 --> 00:30:53,669

you know, in jewelry sales, too.

:

00:30:53,829 --> 00:30:53,889

Yeah.

:

00:30:54,619 --> 00:30:58,189

boys: I worked at Buckle for a

few years, too, so I did- Yeah

:

00:30:58,219 --> 00:30:58,849

clothing as well.

:

00:30:59,079 --> 00:30:59,859

It's- I've done all the things.

:

00:31:00,079 --> 00:31:00,569

brooke: Yeah.

:

00:31:01,489 --> 00:31:02,069

I like it.

:

00:31:02,069 --> 00:31:02,789

Take chances.

:

00:31:02,789 --> 00:31:04,079

Find the things that you love, you know?

:

00:31:04,079 --> 00:31:04,139

Yeah.

:

00:31:04,759 --> 00:31:06,119

I think I'm famous for that now.

:

00:31:06,769 --> 00:31:07,339

boys: Yeah.

:

00:31:07,369 --> 00:31:08,839

Taking chances and finding

the thing you want.

:

00:31:08,839 --> 00:31:09,469

Taking chances and

:

00:31:09,469 --> 00:31:15,289

brooke: trying different things

and, like, yeah, just, you know, I,

:

00:31:15,379 --> 00:31:19,119

I wouldn't call anything failing,

but, like, just figuring it out.

:

00:31:19,329 --> 00:31:19,569

Right.

:

00:31:19,619 --> 00:31:21,699

Yeah, to figure out what I love to do, so.

:

00:31:22,019 --> 00:31:24,099

boys: Seems like it's all coming

together pretty nicely for you, though.

:

00:31:24,099 --> 00:31:26,099

Like, all of the things that you're

passionate about- Yeah … and that

:

00:31:26,099 --> 00:31:28,149

you like are kind of all coming

together, which is really neat.

:

00:31:28,459 --> 00:31:30,519

brooke: I agree, and I

feel kinda silly sometimes.

:

00:31:30,519 --> 00:31:33,379

Like, why didn't I see this before?

:

00:31:33,429 --> 00:31:33,989

But- Right.

:

00:31:34,179 --> 00:31:36,509

… I think it bloomed from

being a mom, you know?

:

00:31:36,539 --> 00:31:37,149

So yeah.

:

00:31:37,149 --> 00:31:37,329

Totally.

:

00:31:37,699 --> 00:31:39,549

Not mad about it and not

mad about the timing.

:

00:31:39,619 --> 00:31:39,679

Yeah.

:

00:31:39,919 --> 00:31:42,749

'Cause I always have wanted to do,

like, personal training or, like,

:

00:31:42,799 --> 00:31:47,179

something of the sort, but I never

saw myself really, like, in front

:

00:31:47,229 --> 00:31:49,229

of a bunch of people and directing.

:

00:31:49,229 --> 00:31:54,689

So it's nice I had, like, a, like,

a slow transition because if I,

:

00:31:54,989 --> 00:31:57,849

my first class was 90 moms, I

wouldn't have known what to do.

:

00:31:57,849 --> 00:31:58,869

You'd be like hi."

:

00:31:58,869 --> 00:32:00,719

Like, "You guys, I'm canceling."

:

00:32:00,809 --> 00:32:04,369

Like, no, but it's been nice to

kinda, like, transition, yeah.

:

00:32:05,149 --> 00:32:05,769

boys: You know what's funny?

:

00:32:06,139 --> 00:32:06,239

No.

:

00:32:06,279 --> 00:32:10,659

The previous guest that we had

on, she has a a business that's

:

00:32:10,659 --> 00:32:11,809

called Kingdom Athlete, and-

:

00:32:12,269 --> 00:32:12,969

brooke: Yes.

:

00:32:12,969 --> 00:32:14,179

Oh my gosh … yeah.

:

00:32:14,209 --> 00:32:14,319

Yeah.

:

00:32:14,319 --> 00:32:14,469

We just

:

00:32:14,469 --> 00:32:14,869

boys: missed her.

:

00:32:15,049 --> 00:32:15,189

Ah.

:

00:32:15,999 --> 00:32:18,599

Yeah, so she was on, and

it's funny how, like-

:

00:32:18,599 --> 00:32:20,999

a lot of your stories kind of overlap.

:

00:32:21,119 --> 00:32:21,609

Yeah.

:

00:32:21,639 --> 00:32:23,619

Like, same but different-

Yeah … because, like, just

:

00:32:23,969 --> 00:32:24,849

different times of your life.

:

00:32:24,849 --> 00:32:24,879

Mm-hmm.

:

00:32:25,009 --> 00:32:25,379

brooke: Yeah.

:

00:32:25,719 --> 00:32:27,389

boys: But it's just really

interesting, kind of like hearing

:

00:32:27,389 --> 00:32:28,009

how- That's so cool … yeah.

:

00:32:28,049 --> 00:32:30,869

brooke: I just saw that they're gonna

do a mommy and me Pilates class.

:

00:32:31,069 --> 00:32:31,099

Oh.

:

00:32:31,369 --> 00:32:31,739

boys: Oh, really?

:

00:32:31,739 --> 00:32:31,989

Yeah.

:

00:32:32,029 --> 00:32:32,189

Oh.

:

00:32:32,279 --> 00:32:32,779

Are you going?

:

00:32:33,149 --> 00:32:36,369

brooke: I'm probably gonna go just as,

like, tick- like a ticket, you know?

:

00:32:36,519 --> 00:32:36,649

Yeah.

:

00:32:36,649 --> 00:32:36,749

Right.

:

00:32:37,019 --> 00:32:37,139

Yeah.

:

00:32:37,684 --> 00:32:38,344

So I love it.

:

00:32:38,344 --> 00:32:39,954

I've been following

them for a little while.

:

00:32:39,984 --> 00:32:42,894

I love everything that they, you

know, stand on and stuff, so.

:

00:32:43,304 --> 00:32:43,734

That's awesome.

:

00:32:43,774 --> 00:32:43,914

Yeah.

:

00:32:43,914 --> 00:32:44,124

Very cool.

:

00:32:44,124 --> 00:32:46,234

I wanna do, like, a

Pilates and prayer thing.

:

00:32:46,264 --> 00:32:46,404

Oh, yeah.

:

00:32:46,404 --> 00:32:49,464

Especially, like, with Lakeside

and stuff, like maybe do something

:

00:32:49,464 --> 00:32:50,994

kind of collaborative with them.

:

00:32:51,474 --> 00:32:52,114

boys: Yeah, that's neat.

:

00:32:52,324 --> 00:32:52,604

Very cool.

:

00:32:53,064 --> 00:32:53,124

Yeah.

:

00:32:53,244 --> 00:32:58,884

So what is your favorite Pilates workout?

:

00:32:59,234 --> 00:33:00,544

brooke: My favorite Pilates workout?

:

00:33:00,544 --> 00:33:00,784

Yeah.

:

00:33:01,334 --> 00:33:02,774

Like, the actual movement?

:

00:33:02,774 --> 00:33:02,984

Yeah.

:

00:33:03,554 --> 00:33:06,754

I mean, I really like a lunge sequence.

:

00:33:07,064 --> 00:33:07,254

boys: Okay.

:

00:33:07,564 --> 00:33:07,934

Yeah.

:

00:33:07,974 --> 00:33:09,864

Like, on a reformer or

just, like, on the ground?

:

00:33:09,894 --> 00:33:10,044

Oh,

:

00:33:10,044 --> 00:33:10,164

brooke: no.

:

00:33:10,164 --> 00:33:10,494

These are…

:

00:33:10,494 --> 00:33:12,014

This is all mat Pilates.

:

00:33:12,014 --> 00:33:12,084

Okay.

:

00:33:12,294 --> 00:33:15,064

If, if we did, like, reformer

Pilates, you can't bring your baby.

:

00:33:15,494 --> 00:33:15,844

Right, yeah.

:

00:33:15,844 --> 00:33:17,954

I almost busted my butt on the reformer.

:

00:33:18,034 --> 00:33:18,844

I have it on video, too.

:

00:33:18,844 --> 00:33:19,534

It's really funny.

:

00:33:19,574 --> 00:33:25,284

It's because I was trying to take a video

during- Oh … a mom pil- a reformer

:

00:33:25,284 --> 00:33:27,604

workout with another mom group in town.

:

00:33:27,704 --> 00:33:29,954

… And it was really funny, so you

can see me in the background

:

00:33:29,984 --> 00:33:31,354

and on my own footage, so.

:

00:33:31,874 --> 00:33:34,094

I'm like, "I'm that girl

today, and I'm okay with it."

:

00:33:34,094 --> 00:33:35,224

It was really funny, so.

:

00:33:35,484 --> 00:33:38,494

boys: So one year- Yeah … when

I'm actually in shape, we

:

00:33:38,494 --> 00:33:39,604

can try a Pilates class.

:

00:33:40,634 --> 00:33:45,614

I say we do it in approximately

three weeks or two weeks.

:

00:33:46,034 --> 00:33:47,394

Bro, are you trying to kill me?

:

00:33:47,394 --> 00:33:47,454

Where?

:

00:33:47,624 --> 00:33:48,584

Why approximately?

:

00:33:48,584 --> 00:33:49,724

Para- Paradise Pilates.

:

00:33:49,724 --> 00:33:53,774

We did a interview with her, what-

Two years ago … two years ago.

:

00:33:53,774 --> 00:33:53,804

Uh-huh.

:

00:33:53,954 --> 00:33:57,384

And she's been asking us to come

back to have us both on a reformer.

:

00:33:57,924 --> 00:33:58,194

Gosh.

:

00:33:58,224 --> 00:33:58,764

Oh, good luck.

:

00:33:58,764 --> 00:34:00,874

And I've never done such a thing, and-

:

00:34:01,454 --> 00:34:02,824

brooke: You're gonna

question your balance.

:

00:34:03,154 --> 00:34:04,334

Don't drink whiskey before you go.

:

00:34:04,334 --> 00:34:04,714

No.

:

00:34:04,904 --> 00:34:05,684

Yeah.

:

00:34:05,714 --> 00:34:05,774

boys: No.

:

00:34:06,164 --> 00:34:10,853

No, that was hilarious because we,

we had done Hidden Ships beforehand.

:

00:34:10,884 --> 00:34:11,274

Oh, that's right.

:

00:34:11,274 --> 00:34:12,094

That was fantastic.

:

00:34:12,094 --> 00:34:14,414

Like, that was one of our first up there.

:

00:34:14,414 --> 00:34:17,054

Like, we do a Surf City- Oh,

okay … trip, like, once a

:

00:34:17,054 --> 00:34:18,474

year typically, like May, June.

:

00:34:18,873 --> 00:34:21,114

And we had gone to…

:

00:34:21,574 --> 00:34:24,293

We had coffee in the morning-

Mm-hmm … at Sundial.

:

00:34:24,444 --> 00:34:24,474

Mm-hmm.

:

00:34:25,034 --> 00:34:28,793

And then we took a break, and

then we went down to Hidden Ships,

:

00:34:28,793 --> 00:34:29,844

'cause they were just opening.

:

00:34:30,034 --> 00:34:30,714

I drank a lot.

:

00:34:31,704 --> 00:34:32,873

We, they, they were like- Before.

:

00:34:34,114 --> 00:34:35,174

They didn't have Pilates yet.

:

00:34:35,174 --> 00:34:35,774

Oh, okay.

:

00:34:35,774 --> 00:34:38,364

Like, she had just opened it- They had

just painted … and been painting.

:

00:34:38,414 --> 00:34:38,734

Yeah.

:

00:34:38,764 --> 00:34:39,893

It was super echoey.

:

00:34:40,234 --> 00:34:46,774

But Chris- … being the Chris that I am

I was- Touchy … just vibing, and we were

:

00:34:46,774 --> 00:34:50,004

joking 'cause I'm like, "Yeah, yeah, I'm

a big boy, but I can still touch my toes."

:

00:34:50,414 --> 00:34:53,554

And, like, mid-episode I just hop off

my chair, and I'm like, "Here, look."

:

00:34:55,524 --> 00:34:58,634

And Tyler's like, "I can't

believe you did that."

:

00:34:59,944 --> 00:35:02,114

Called our guest a lesbian

too, so that was awesome.

:

00:35:02,114 --> 00:35:02,774

No.

:

00:35:04,784 --> 00:35:05,064

Is she?

:

00:35:05,064 --> 00:35:05,614

She plays, Oh.

:

00:35:05,614 --> 00:35:06,244

No, she was married…

:

00:35:06,244 --> 00:35:07,234

She's married to a guy.

:

00:35:07,234 --> 00:35:07,584

Oh, yeah.

:

00:35:07,624 --> 00:35:08,614

Yeah, very much a guy.

:

00:35:08,614 --> 00:35:10,244

She's married to-

And, … a football coach.

:

00:35:10,374 --> 00:35:11,724

Yeah, offensive football coach.

:

00:35:11,724 --> 00:35:12,934

And, but she played softball.

:

00:35:13,094 --> 00:35:13,414

Mm, okay.

:

00:35:13,414 --> 00:35:16,814

So that was, like, the joke is like-

I see … "Oh, you played softball as

:

00:35:16,814 --> 00:35:18,314

an adult and you're not a lesbian?"

:

00:35:18,734 --> 00:35:18,854

I

:

00:35:18,854 --> 00:35:19,384

brooke: understand.

:

00:35:19,414 --> 00:35:19,474

Yeah.

:

00:35:19,744 --> 00:35:19,914

boys: Yeah.

:

00:35:19,994 --> 00:35:22,094

brooke: It wasn't just,

like, a straight-up comment.

:

00:35:22,094 --> 00:35:22,294

Okay.

:

00:35:22,294 --> 00:35:25,844

I had it n- out of

context, it's not so great.

:

00:35:25,844 --> 00:35:26,064

Correct.

:

00:35:26,064 --> 00:35:26,304

Correct.

:

00:35:26,304 --> 00:35:28,594

It was more funny to say

it out of context though.

:

00:35:28,594 --> 00:35:28,864

Yeah.

:

00:35:28,894 --> 00:35:29,334

Yeah.

:

00:35:29,364 --> 00:35:31,934

boys: I, I am ballsy when

I drink, but not that-

:

00:35:32,504 --> 00:35:33,794

not stupid like that.

:

00:35:34,704 --> 00:35:35,854

That's how you get slapped.

:

00:35:35,934 --> 00:35:40,104

brooke: So who was I talking to on

Instagram about the back handsprings?

:

00:35:40,304 --> 00:35:40,584

Me.

:

00:35:40,584 --> 00:35:41,184

Was that you?

:

00:35:41,184 --> 00:35:41,414

That was me.

:

00:35:41,414 --> 00:35:42,044

Okay, so you can- Yeah.

:

00:35:42,044 --> 00:35:43,664

Well, you used to- Used to tumble

:

00:35:43,664 --> 00:35:43,794

boys: you

:

00:35:43,794 --> 00:35:44,094

brooke: said?

:

00:35:44,124 --> 00:35:45,474

boys: I don't know if I still can.

:

00:35:45,474 --> 00:35:46,004

I could probably- Oh.

:

00:35:46,034 --> 00:35:49,904

I could probably still do, like,

a round-off back handspring.

:

00:35:49,934 --> 00:35:50,374

Yeah.

:

00:35:50,454 --> 00:35:51,104

I bet you can.

:

00:35:51,104 --> 00:35:53,764

I don't know, but I probably wouldn't

be able to do the tuck right away.

:

00:35:53,824 --> 00:35:54,284

brooke: Mm-hmm.

:

00:35:54,594 --> 00:35:57,044

boys: If, I think if I did it long

enough, I'd be able to, like, get

:

00:35:57,044 --> 00:35:58,704

myself confident b- again to do it.

:

00:35:58,764 --> 00:35:59,044

Yeah.

:

00:35:59,214 --> 00:36:00,694

But yeah, it's, it's been a hot minute.

:

00:36:01,284 --> 00:36:01,704

That was funny.

:

00:36:01,704 --> 00:36:02,124

Can you do one?

:

00:36:02,829 --> 00:36:03,299

brooke: Yes.

:

00:36:03,539 --> 00:36:03,959

boys: That's

:

00:36:04,299 --> 00:36:06,569

brooke: how- That's how the

whole conversation started.

:

00:36:06,569 --> 00:36:06,769

Yeah, I know.

:

00:36:06,769 --> 00:36:06,859

Oh, okay.

:

00:36:06,859 --> 00:36:10,189

So- Definitely … my friends were like,

we were at the park on a random Monday.

:

00:36:10,189 --> 00:36:10,969

I thought it was kinda funny.

:

00:36:11,289 --> 00:36:12,619

They were like, "Can you

still do a round-off?"

:

00:36:12,619 --> 00:36:13,589

I was like, "You know what?

:

00:36:14,309 --> 00:36:15,169

I bet I can."

:

00:36:15,359 --> 00:36:18,029

Well, I knew I could do a round-off,

but I was like, "I bet I can still do,

:

00:36:18,029 --> 00:36:19,659

like, a round-off back handspring."

:

00:36:19,659 --> 00:36:19,789

Yeah.

:

00:36:20,739 --> 00:36:26,059

Yep, and I credit working out because we

never did that in, like, Yeah … we never

:

00:36:26,059 --> 00:36:27,709

worked out in cheerleading or anything.

:

00:36:27,709 --> 00:36:27,969

Mm-hmm.

:

00:36:27,969 --> 00:36:30,899

And it was always so hard to hold

yourself up, like, on- Right … on the

:

00:36:30,899 --> 00:36:34,229

back handspring, and it felt- You didn't

work out when you were in cheerleading?

:

00:36:34,229 --> 00:36:34,349

… easier.

:

00:36:34,349 --> 00:36:35,419

Well, I'm saying, like, you…

:

00:36:35,909 --> 00:36:37,089

They didn't take us to the gym.

:

00:36:37,089 --> 00:36:37,209

Wow.

:

00:36:37,209 --> 00:36:37,559

Yeah, it wasn't

:

00:36:37,559 --> 00:36:38,839

boys: like strength training.

:

00:36:38,839 --> 00:36:39,129

brooke: Like there…

:

00:36:39,129 --> 00:36:42,699

Yeah, you weren't lifting weights, which

I feel like would be such a benefit

:

00:36:42,699 --> 00:36:43,779

for- Yeah … cheerleaders, like.

:

00:36:43,879 --> 00:36:44,079

Yeah.

:

00:36:44,519 --> 00:36:47,239

But yeah, they didn't do that, so,

like, your arms felt so weak, like.

:

00:36:47,629 --> 00:36:48,619

boys: Did you do competitive cheer?

:

00:36:49,129 --> 00:36:50,349

brooke: No, I just did high school.

:

00:36:50,599 --> 00:36:50,679

Okay.

:

00:36:50,679 --> 00:36:51,549

And then I broke my ankle.

:

00:36:51,669 --> 00:36:52,359

So where'd you go?

:

00:36:52,929 --> 00:36:53,529

I went to Hoggard.

:

00:36:54,389 --> 00:36:55,569

Oh, of course.

:

00:36:55,569 --> 00:36:56,179

Of course.

:

00:36:56,839 --> 00:36:57,689

Or you went to Laney?

:

00:36:58,089 --> 00:36:58,339

Yep.

:

00:36:58,339 --> 00:37:00,759

Only by that reaction I knew that.

:

00:37:01,099 --> 00:37:02,289

Our twin school.

:

00:37:03,089 --> 00:37:09,089

boys: Well, I always laugh because when it

comes to schools, I know how old someone

:

00:37:09,089 --> 00:37:11,789

is based on what school they went to.

:

00:37:12,829 --> 00:37:15,569

Because if you, if you typically come, and

I'm like, "Oh, where'd you go to school?"

:

00:37:15,569 --> 00:37:19,799

And like, "Hanover," I'm like,

"Mm, you were born and you

:

00:37:19,799 --> 00:37:23,859

probably went to Hanover, like,

early:

:

00:37:24,029 --> 00:37:24,279

Mm.

:

00:37:24,279 --> 00:37:27,469

If you went to, like, Laney

or Hoggard, you're typically

:

00:37:27,499 --> 00:37:29,309

in your, like, 20s and 30s.

:

00:37:29,309 --> 00:37:29,649

Yeah.

:

00:37:29,899 --> 00:37:32,049

Because that's-

Like- … where people know.

:

00:37:32,289 --> 00:37:35,559

'Cause the schools have gotten big

enough, and I'm meeting those people who

:

00:37:35,559 --> 00:37:37,429

are on either end of the s- the city.

:

00:37:37,459 --> 00:37:37,839

Mm-hmm.

:

00:37:37,969 --> 00:37:40,919

'Cause Hanover was open enrollment,

so people were just like- Oh … you

:

00:37:40,919 --> 00:37:41,369

could go if you wanted to.

:

00:37:41,369 --> 00:37:41,879

I didn't know that.

:

00:37:42,489 --> 00:37:42,919

And only…

:

00:37:43,339 --> 00:37:46,119

And all the people I knew who

went to Hanover were either lived

:

00:37:46,119 --> 00:37:47,969

downtown or, like, stupid smart.

:

00:37:48,059 --> 00:37:48,439

brooke: Yeah.

:

00:37:48,919 --> 00:37:50,909

Oh yeah, for the,

Lyceum … that's what it is.

:

00:37:51,649 --> 00:37:54,509

boys: And then if you're like, "Oh, it's

Ashley," and I'm like, "You're young."

:

00:37:54,509 --> 00:37:54,919

Brand new.

:

00:37:54,919 --> 00:37:55,219

Young.

:

00:37:55,219 --> 00:37:55,639

Yeah.

:

00:37:55,639 --> 00:37:55,839

Yeah.

:

00:37:55,839 --> 00:37:57,059

That's a brand new school.

:

00:37:57,059 --> 00:37:57,459

You're a baby.

:

00:37:57,539 --> 00:37:58,989

That makes sense, yeah.

:

00:37:58,989 --> 00:38:02,419

Yeah, 'cause one of my good friends,

and we just realized that we've known

:

00:38:02,419 --> 00:38:04,559

each other for 20 years next year.

:

00:38:04,789 --> 00:38:05,969

brooke: How good of a friend is that?

:

00:38:06,439 --> 00:38:09,049

Well, like, I just don't

keep- Recent good friend.

:

00:38:09,159 --> 00:38:09,669

Oh, no, no.

:

00:38:09,669 --> 00:38:09,869

Oh.

:

00:38:09,869 --> 00:38:10,359

We, we

:

00:38:10,359 --> 00:38:10,879

boys: legit…

:

00:38:11,219 --> 00:38:14,159

Like, it's, we're, we hang out,

we go to concerts together.

:

00:38:14,479 --> 00:38:16,399

It's just, like, oh, it's been 20 years.

:

00:38:16,429 --> 00:38:17,239

Oh, okay.

:

00:38:17,269 --> 00:38:18,259

So, like, she- I thought you- I know.

:

00:38:18,259 --> 00:38:20,089

I was like, "We've known

each other for 20 years."

:

00:38:20,089 --> 00:38:20,219

Yeah.

:

00:38:20,219 --> 00:38:20,499

And you're like, "Oh, okay.

:

00:38:20,499 --> 00:38:21,719

Gotcha."

:

00:38:21,879 --> 00:38:25,949

But I didn't realize that she was,

she graduated, I think, from Hoggard,

:

00:38:26,439 --> 00:38:31,679

because her roommate when they were

in college graduated from Ashley.

:

00:38:32,549 --> 00:38:36,229

And I was like, "Oh, yeah, I

played basketball against Ashley."

:

00:38:36,369 --> 00:38:36,599

Oh.

:

00:38:36,749 --> 00:38:38,969

So I just was like, "Oh,

yeah, Ashley's there."

:

00:38:38,999 --> 00:38:39,719

I knew it was new.

:

00:38:39,899 --> 00:38:41,819

I didn't realize it was that new.

:

00:38:41,819 --> 00:38:42,429

brooke: Mm-hmm.

:

00:38:42,429 --> 00:38:42,489

So.

:

00:38:42,999 --> 00:38:44,539

Yeah, it's a little bit more

on the, I think it's the

:

00:38:44,539 --> 00:38:45,729

newest high school here, so.

:

00:38:45,959 --> 00:38:46,119

Yeah.

:

00:38:46,699 --> 00:38:46,759

boys: Yeah.

:

00:38:47,239 --> 00:38:48,239

Well, in this area.

:

00:38:48,909 --> 00:38:48,999

Yeah.

:

00:38:48,999 --> 00:38:50,819

There's not really any place

to put another high school.

:

00:38:50,849 --> 00:38:51,629

Another school.

:

00:38:51,819 --> 00:38:52,499

brooke: They don't want to.

:

00:38:52,759 --> 00:38:53,099

They're good.

:

00:38:53,429 --> 00:38:54,549

Just like to pack 'em in now.

:

00:38:54,759 --> 00:38:55,159

They would love to.

:

00:38:55,159 --> 00:38:56,239

I was gonna say, yeah.

:

00:38:56,469 --> 00:38:57,659

boys: But there, there's not space.

:

00:38:57,659 --> 00:38:58,549

Ashley's already packed.

:

00:38:58,689 --> 00:39:01,379

Like, there's not enough

space in Wilmington for the

:

00:39:01,379 --> 00:39:02,989

amount of land that you need.

:

00:39:03,189 --> 00:39:03,509

brooke: Yeah.

:

00:39:04,389 --> 00:39:05,849

It's- You're gonna start building up- Yeah

:

00:39:05,849 --> 00:39:07,239

really high top, like…

:

00:39:07,519 --> 00:39:08,429

boys: But, but you can't.

:

00:39:08,509 --> 00:39:09,679

You have to tear it all down.

:

00:39:10,209 --> 00:39:10,489

Yeah.

:

00:39:10,879 --> 00:39:12,059

Which would be fun, but

:

00:39:13,959 --> 00:39:14,469

brooke: it's all good.

:

00:39:14,779 --> 00:39:17,839

Yeah, so no competitive cheer,

just- Okay … just high school.

:

00:39:18,389 --> 00:39:18,569

That makes

:

00:39:18,569 --> 00:39:18,709

boys: sense.

:

00:39:18,709 --> 00:39:19,569

Which was fun, but…

:

00:39:20,339 --> 00:39:23,049

So since you messed up your

ankle, is there anything else

:

00:39:23,049 --> 00:39:24,299

you would tell your younger self?

:

00:39:25,474 --> 00:39:28,204

brooke: to listen to my first thoughts.

:

00:39:29,064 --> 00:39:29,304

Oh.

:

00:39:30,254 --> 00:39:32,384

Like, I don't know, sometimes

you second-guess yourself.

:

00:39:32,384 --> 00:39:32,444

Yeah.

:

00:39:32,444 --> 00:39:32,534

Mm-hmm.

:

00:39:32,534 --> 00:39:35,334

And I feel like the first

thought is usually the right one.

:

00:39:35,994 --> 00:39:36,174

Yeah.

:

00:39:36,404 --> 00:39:37,594

Just like- Don't second-guess

… not doubt yourself.

:

00:39:37,754 --> 00:39:37,984

Yeah.

:

00:39:38,304 --> 00:39:39,044

boys: Unless you're drunk.

:

00:39:39,754 --> 00:39:40,834

brooke: Doubt yourself if you're drunk.

:

00:39:41,154 --> 00:39:42,504

Yeah.

:

00:39:42,534 --> 00:39:43,454

Wait, wait till next year.

:

00:39:43,484 --> 00:39:46,144

But sometimes some really good

businesses come out of that, you know?

:

00:39:46,474 --> 00:39:46,814

boys: Okay.

:

00:39:47,024 --> 00:39:48,514

It is called Whiskey

and Wisdom for a reason.

:

00:39:48,514 --> 00:39:48,574

Yeah.

:

00:39:48,574 --> 00:39:49,054

Yes.

:

00:39:49,054 --> 00:39:49,434

And

:

00:39:49,434 --> 00:39:49,964

brooke: Wisdom.

:

00:39:50,094 --> 00:39:51,034

Yeah.

:

00:39:51,804 --> 00:39:53,664

boys: I don't know if we were

drunk when we came up with it.

:

00:39:54,984 --> 00:39:55,864

Well, it took us long enough.

:

00:39:55,864 --> 00:39:57,144

Hopefully we weren't drunk that long.

:

00:39:57,354 --> 00:39:57,414

Yeah.

:

00:39:57,744 --> 00:39:58,374

It took us a while.

:

00:39:58,564 --> 00:39:59,004

Yeah.

:

00:39:59,084 --> 00:40:01,034

It was a year, so…

:

00:40:02,434 --> 00:40:03,244

We kept pushing it off.

:

00:40:03,684 --> 00:40:03,824

Yeah.

:

00:40:03,914 --> 00:40:04,184

brooke: Yeah.

:

00:40:04,394 --> 00:40:07,894

That, that's another thing is, like,

start things imperfectly, you know?

:

00:40:08,044 --> 00:40:08,154

Mm-hmm.

:

00:40:08,154 --> 00:40:13,714

I feel like sometimes you overthink,

and you take forever to start something.

:

00:40:13,854 --> 00:40:13,994

Yeah.

:

00:40:14,564 --> 00:40:16,524

boys: Here's what's funny about

that too, 'cause- … I used to

:

00:40:16,524 --> 00:40:19,364

be terrible with that, like- Still

… wanting everything to be perfect.

:

00:40:19,624 --> 00:40:19,884

brooke: Yeah.

:

00:40:20,324 --> 00:40:22,984

boys: Fun fact for anyone out there

that's listening that had the same

:

00:40:22,984 --> 00:40:26,924

problem that I did, that you want

everything to be perfect before you start,

:

00:40:27,074 --> 00:40:28,454

you're still gonna start imperfectly.

:

00:40:28,454 --> 00:40:28,724

all: Yeah.

:

00:40:28,724 --> 00:40:28,904

Because

:

00:40:28,904 --> 00:40:30,984

boys: you don't have it figured

out until you- Yeah … actually…

:

00:40:30,984 --> 00:40:36,124

Like tumbling-wise, you could watch videos

on how to do a back tuck all day long.

:

00:40:36,264 --> 00:40:36,414

Yeah.

:

00:40:36,414 --> 00:40:40,294

But until your feet actually hit the mat,

like, you're in for a rude awakening.

:

00:40:40,294 --> 00:40:40,324

Mm-hmm.

:

00:40:40,324 --> 00:40:41,484

And the same thing with business.

:

00:40:41,484 --> 00:40:44,974

Like, you can't watch enough videos

or do enough research on your niche-

:

00:40:45,564 --> 00:40:47,644

in order to feel prepared to start it.

:

00:40:47,644 --> 00:40:47,704

Yeah.

:

00:40:47,734 --> 00:40:48,504

You never will.

:

00:40:49,304 --> 00:40:52,984

brooke: Yeah, and I think you just

learn as you go, and I think it's,

:

00:40:52,984 --> 00:40:55,354

like, stalling and procrastinating, so.

:

00:40:55,404 --> 00:40:55,624

Right.

:

00:40:55,624 --> 00:40:56,434

Yeah, you know?

:

00:40:56,434 --> 00:40:57,304

That makes sense.

:

00:40:58,424 --> 00:41:01,244

boys: So then I'm gonna steal his

q- You already stole my question.

:

00:41:01,244 --> 00:41:02,474

Yeah, so I'm gonna ask- Oh.

:

00:41:02,474 --> 00:41:03,244

You're just gonna take all the best.

:

00:41:03,244 --> 00:41:04,564

I'm just gonna take all the good ones.

:

00:41:04,564 --> 00:41:07,604

So with all this stuff going on,

coming up in the future, what

:

00:41:07,604 --> 00:41:08,814

does success look like for you?

:

00:41:09,144 --> 00:41:09,744

brooke: just, like,

:

00:41:11,874 --> 00:41:16,874

inspiring people to keep pushing

through, like, the hard … Pe-

:

00:41:17,184 --> 00:41:20,384

people, moms, to keep pushing

through, like, the hard parts,

:

00:41:20,384 --> 00:41:22,784

because that's when things get easier.

:

00:41:23,184 --> 00:41:26,604

When you do the hard things, you

gain confidence, and I think that

:

00:41:26,604 --> 00:41:30,164

helps you just, like, habit stack.

:

00:41:30,964 --> 00:41:30,994

Mm-hmm.

:

00:41:31,274 --> 00:41:35,444

And it makes things just, like, a

little bit softer, you know, and

:

00:41:35,444 --> 00:41:36,764

just to not give up, you know?

:

00:41:36,764 --> 00:41:41,504

So I just, I want to inspire people

with that, or hope that they can see

:

00:41:41,504 --> 00:41:47,824

that sometimes my hardest moments are,

like, inspiring and I'm still learning

:

00:41:47,824 --> 00:41:49,054

as I go, too- Yeah … you know?

:

00:41:49,054 --> 00:41:49,154

Mm.

:

00:41:49,574 --> 00:41:50,464

I'm still brand new.

:

00:41:50,724 --> 00:41:52,844

I'm just a mom of a

two-year-old, you know?

:

00:41:52,964 --> 00:41:53,024

Yeah.

:

00:41:53,364 --> 00:41:56,624

So success I feel like looks like

a lot of that, and just, like,

:

00:41:56,864 --> 00:41:58,244

helping guide people, you know?

:

00:41:58,244 --> 00:41:59,064

Of course.

:

00:42:00,704 --> 00:42:02,424

boys: When are you planning

on starting the coaching?

:

00:42:02,799 --> 00:42:08,679

brooke: I wanna … So, like, six months

or so, like, would be awesome, but I just

:

00:42:08,679 --> 00:42:10,299

have to get, like, some things in line.

:

00:42:10,299 --> 00:42:14,219

Like, I have to create, you

know, lesson plans, basically.

:

00:42:14,569 --> 00:42:18,779

I have a, like, a team with me already,

which I'm really excited about.

:

00:42:18,779 --> 00:42:20,599

They're gonna do, like, a

lot of the backend stuff.

:

00:42:20,709 --> 00:42:21,649

I think it's r- … Yeah.

:

00:42:21,929 --> 00:42:24,359

I'm pedal to the metal now

that these events are done.

:

00:42:24,359 --> 00:42:28,169

This has been, like- Yeah … a very new-

Yeah … endeavor or, like, offer, really.

:

00:42:28,579 --> 00:42:30,669

So I'm gonna get started as soon as I can.

:

00:42:30,719 --> 00:42:31,419

Like- That's awesome.

:

00:42:31,459 --> 00:42:31,769

Yeah.

:

00:42:32,019 --> 00:42:34,589

I've been kind of, like, learning a lot.

:

00:42:34,919 --> 00:42:36,539

I have a lot of friends

who … Well, not a lot.

:

00:42:36,539 --> 00:42:38,229

I have a few friends who also do it.

:

00:42:38,229 --> 00:42:38,289

Mm.

:

00:42:38,579 --> 00:42:42,629

So I'm kind of picking their brains

a little bit and they've also just

:

00:42:42,629 --> 00:42:44,439

inspired me to do, do it as well.

:

00:42:45,019 --> 00:42:45,159

Nice.

:

00:42:45,239 --> 00:42:48,019

Yeah, so hopefully, like,

rolling out in the next year.

:

00:42:48,439 --> 00:42:52,659

I don't get a lot of downtime

since I'm full-time mom.

:

00:42:52,859 --> 00:42:53,019

boys: Yeah.

:

00:42:53,279 --> 00:42:54,189

Two-year-old will do that.

:

00:42:54,289 --> 00:42:55,109

Two-year-old, yeah.

:

00:42:55,109 --> 00:42:55,499

That's all right.

:

00:42:55,709 --> 00:42:59,189

brooke: Yeah, so I just

try anytime that I can.

:

00:42:59,189 --> 00:43:01,749

Nap time, 9:00 at night, midnight.

:

00:43:01,749 --> 00:43:02,029

Got it.

:

00:43:02,149 --> 00:43:02,769

All the things.

:

00:43:03,319 --> 00:43:06,299

So fingers crossed that

comes out before:

:

00:43:06,569 --> 00:43:06,639

Yeah.

:

00:43:06,669 --> 00:43:06,879

all: Right.

:

00:43:07,039 --> 00:43:07,309

brooke: Yeah.

:

00:43:07,339 --> 00:43:10,719

But I will, I will throw

it out there imperfectly.

:

00:43:11,099 --> 00:43:11,299

Yeah … yeah.

:

00:43:11,649 --> 00:43:14,159

boys: I mean, we're closer

to:

:

00:43:15,379 --> 00:43:15,539

brooke: It's

:

00:43:15,539 --> 00:43:16,369

boys: crazy to think about

:

00:43:16,619 --> 00:43:17,039

brooke: Yeah.

:

00:43:17,209 --> 00:43:17,359

I know.

:

00:43:17,359 --> 00:43:17,459

Ouch.

:

00:43:17,459 --> 00:43:17,629

Right.

:

00:43:17,659 --> 00:43:18,199

Yeah.

:

00:43:19,209 --> 00:43:23,589

boys: So for the moms out there that

want to join you or think that they might

:

00:43:23,589 --> 00:43:24,839

be interested, how can they reach you?

:

00:43:25,199 --> 00:43:28,989

brooke: I, I feel like unprofessionally

only have my Instagram for it right

:

00:43:28,989 --> 00:43:32,729

now, so they can find me on Instagram

at the Mamalates group, so- Yeah

:

00:43:32,729 --> 00:43:35,059

mom, Pilates mixed together,

if you didn't get that.

:

00:43:35,459 --> 00:43:39,429

The Mamalates group, and then there's

like a Sweat Pals link, which is

:

00:43:39,429 --> 00:43:41,879

like- Mm … where you can like sign

up and stuff, and that kinda just

:

00:43:41,879 --> 00:43:45,879

helps me, you know, kinda get a head

count of what I should be expecting-

:

00:43:45,879 --> 00:43:47,259

Right … so I can bring enough stuff.

:

00:43:47,349 --> 00:43:51,519

Or they can find me at Embody, which

is like another really amazing studio

:

00:43:51,609 --> 00:43:56,179

that offers, actually for free, they

offer the Mommy and Me classes for free.

:

00:43:56,589 --> 00:43:56,679

Oh, wow.

:

00:43:56,679 --> 00:44:00,269

So I teach there like

Wednesdays and Fridays mainly.

:

00:44:00,759 --> 00:44:00,879

Oh, nice.

:

00:44:00,879 --> 00:44:01,609

So yeah.

:

00:44:02,069 --> 00:44:02,249

Very

:

00:44:03,139 --> 00:44:03,219

all: good.

:

00:44:03,219 --> 00:44:03,359

Yeah.

:

00:44:04,299 --> 00:44:05,679

brooke: Having too much fun with it, so.

:

00:44:05,679 --> 00:44:05,709

Mm-hmm.

:

00:44:05,709 --> 00:44:05,769

Yeah.

:

00:44:05,939 --> 00:44:05,999

I'm

:

00:44:07,139 --> 00:44:07,639

boys: down with it.

:

00:44:07,639 --> 00:44:08,729

Having fun, don't give it up, right?

:

00:44:08,919 --> 00:44:09,059

Yeah.

:

00:44:09,089 --> 00:44:09,489

I know.

:

00:44:09,489 --> 00:44:09,799

It's like- I

:

00:44:09,799 --> 00:44:11,179

brooke: swear, I've like…

:

00:44:11,409 --> 00:44:12,449

People are like, "Are you okay?"

:

00:44:12,449 --> 00:44:13,799

Like you're, and you don't stop.

:

00:44:13,799 --> 00:44:16,529

I'm like, "I feel alive,"

you know, doing this.

:

00:44:16,529 --> 00:44:16,589

Yeah.

:

00:44:16,589 --> 00:44:21,449

I started in September and yeah, it's

really snowballed into- Yeah … I

:

00:44:21,449 --> 00:44:24,679

started in the winter, which I hear

is what you're really supposed to do.

:

00:44:24,709 --> 00:44:28,849

Like not- Mm … just like

you're supposed to do it in like

:

00:44:28,889 --> 00:44:31,109

the cold, hard times anyway.

:

00:44:31,109 --> 00:44:33,689

Right Not just only in

like the summer, you know?

:

00:44:33,689 --> 00:44:36,419

It's kind of a metaphor as well,

you know, 'cause we all get like

:

00:44:36,659 --> 00:44:39,929

seasonal depression and it's like,

"Oh, we wanna wait till summer," or,

:

00:44:39,929 --> 00:44:40,969

"We wanna wait till it's nice out."

:

00:44:40,969 --> 00:44:41,029

Right.

:

00:44:41,029 --> 00:44:43,529

I'm like, "No, if you start

now, then you'll see like the

:

00:44:43,529 --> 00:44:45,709

results 90 days later and stuff."

:

00:44:45,709 --> 00:44:45,769

Sure.

:

00:44:45,769 --> 00:44:48,509

And the payout might come

a little bit later, so.

:

00:44:48,849 --> 00:44:49,059

Yeah.

:

00:44:49,389 --> 00:44:50,009

boys: Kinda like everything.

:

00:44:50,009 --> 00:44:50,869

Do it when it makes sense.

:

00:44:50,899 --> 00:44:51,409

brooke: Yeah.

:

00:44:52,589 --> 00:44:56,029

So I started, my first walk that

I did only had four moms in it.

:

00:44:56,479 --> 00:44:56,569

Yeah.

:

00:44:56,569 --> 00:44:59,889

So I think it's really cool that,

you know, so many people- Maybe 90

:

00:44:59,889 --> 00:45:00,729

trust me.

:

00:45:00,729 --> 00:45:00,929

It's a lot.

:

00:45:00,929 --> 00:45:04,229

Ended up, yeah And they wanna come,

and I get to see all these like, like

:

00:45:04,559 --> 00:45:07,969

moms who I've seen, you know, four

or 10 different times now, and it's

:

00:45:07,969 --> 00:45:09,519

like, it's just like friendships.

:

00:45:09,549 --> 00:45:13,849

And- Yeah … me watching other

moms become friends, meeting for

:

00:45:13,849 --> 00:45:16,819

the first time, is so incredible.

:

00:45:16,939 --> 00:45:17,239

That's nice.

:

00:45:17,369 --> 00:45:17,529

Yeah.

:

00:45:17,529 --> 00:45:17,819

It is.

:

00:45:18,469 --> 00:45:22,469

'Cause nobody has the same story,

nobody has the same experience.

:

00:45:22,889 --> 00:45:22,949

Yeah.

:

00:45:22,949 --> 00:45:23,179

Yeah.

:

00:45:23,729 --> 00:45:26,709

boys: And having that common bond of

just working out and sweating together

:

00:45:26,709 --> 00:45:30,089

and stuff- Yeah … too just makes

kind of that, that connection grow.

:

00:45:30,209 --> 00:45:30,569

brooke: Yeah.

:

00:45:30,949 --> 00:45:35,049

And I think it's like easier to meet

moms while we're working out because

:

00:45:35,049 --> 00:45:38,229

your endorphins are high, things are

moving, you know, you're not just

:

00:45:38,229 --> 00:45:40,109

stuck in a coffee shop like- Right

:

00:45:40,219 --> 00:45:42,189

required to talk about, you know?

:

00:45:42,189 --> 00:45:46,109

And, and sometimes like, you know,

you can get a little complainy and-

:

00:45:46,109 --> 00:45:49,969

Mm-hmm … as it's, it's very easy as

moms, but I feel like when, you know,

:

00:45:49,969 --> 00:45:53,899

we're moving and we got fresh air and

our babies are happy, like- Right … you

:

00:45:53,899 --> 00:45:58,339

don't just sit there and complain about

the, you know, the bad parts of your day.

:

00:45:58,749 --> 00:45:58,909

Right.

:

00:45:58,909 --> 00:45:59,059

So.

:

00:45:59,059 --> 00:45:59,289

You don't

:

00:45:59,619 --> 00:46:01,499

boys: have to really worry about

the kids like running around

:

00:46:01,499 --> 00:46:02,849

a coffee shop and stuff too.

:

00:46:02,849 --> 00:46:03,619

Yeah, yeah.

:

00:46:03,659 --> 00:46:05,469

Like they're already, they're

semi-contained or they're

:

00:46:05,469 --> 00:46:06,529

walking- Yeah … or anything.

:

00:46:06,529 --> 00:46:06,749

Yeah.

:

00:46:06,749 --> 00:46:07,909

So it's just like- Or

like, … it makes sense

:

00:46:08,019 --> 00:46:11,224

… brooke: I've gotta go- Have a

full conversation while I sit…

:

00:46:11,264 --> 00:46:11,674

I don't know.

:

00:46:11,674 --> 00:46:12,754

Like, it's- While you're

waiting for the coffee.

:

00:46:12,754 --> 00:46:13,124

Yeah.

:

00:46:13,154 --> 00:46:13,394

And then

:

00:46:13,394 --> 00:46:15,004

boys: you gotta get up and,

like, get out the way and-

:

00:46:15,244 --> 00:46:18,544

brooke: Yeah, and you hear, you know,

adults talk about how hard it is to meet

:

00:46:18,544 --> 00:46:22,274

friends when you're, you know, you're

not stuck in a high school all day.

:

00:46:22,274 --> 00:46:22,484

You're right.

:

00:46:22,484 --> 00:46:24,094

Like, you're like, "Oh,

I have the same job.

:

00:46:24,094 --> 00:46:25,814

I see the same people," you know?

:

00:46:26,084 --> 00:46:29,604

So it's like a nice way to kinda

just get out and have the community.

:

00:46:29,604 --> 00:46:33,954

So it's been really sweet having so

many businesses and stuff just, like,

:

00:46:33,954 --> 00:46:39,254

put in, like, you know, products, gift

cards- Yeah … feeding all of them.

:

00:46:39,254 --> 00:46:43,344

So I just hope that continues because

I wish I had a million dollars so I

:

00:46:43,344 --> 00:46:44,634

could treat all my moms, you know?

:

00:46:44,834 --> 00:46:45,034

Right.

:

00:46:45,244 --> 00:46:47,024

So it's been really,

really sweet to watch.

:

00:46:47,574 --> 00:46:47,704

That's

:

00:46:47,704 --> 00:46:47,804

boys: awesome.

:

00:46:47,804 --> 00:46:48,084

brooke: Thank you.

:

00:46:48,114 --> 00:46:48,244

Yeah.

:

00:46:49,234 --> 00:46:49,404

boys: Yeah.

:

00:46:50,014 --> 00:46:50,984

Thank you for coming on.

:

00:46:51,144 --> 00:46:51,844

brooke: Thank you.

:

00:46:52,024 --> 00:46:52,784

Thanks for having me.

:

00:46:53,054 --> 00:46:53,324

boys: Definitely.

:

00:46:53,444 --> 00:46:53,904

Of course.

:

00:46:54,484 --> 00:46:58,654

Always like something different, and then-

Yeah … also realizing how small the

:

00:46:58,654 --> 00:47:00,694

town is- … with all the connections.

:

00:47:01,244 --> 00:47:02,884

brooke: We actually know,

yeah, like, so many people.

:

00:47:02,884 --> 00:47:04,254

So many similar people.

:

00:47:04,254 --> 00:47:04,574

boys: Right.

:

00:47:04,914 --> 00:47:09,144

Well, like you said, the mom thing,

I seen Alex post about it, and

:

00:47:09,144 --> 00:47:12,314

I was like, "Oh, cool," 'cause

I had seen people in the video.

:

00:47:12,314 --> 00:47:12,434

Yeah.

:

00:47:12,794 --> 00:47:16,474

And now I'm like, "Oh, I know at

least one other person that was here."

:

00:47:17,544 --> 00:47:17,604

brooke: Yeah.

:

00:47:17,604 --> 00:47:20,274

Well, since we've both lived here for a

while, we probably know a lot more people.

:

00:47:20,274 --> 00:47:20,524

Right.

:

00:47:20,554 --> 00:47:21,194

Yeah.

:

00:47:21,304 --> 00:47:21,694

Yeah.

:

00:47:21,944 --> 00:47:22,124

boys: Yeah.

:

00:47:23,134 --> 00:47:23,524

So yeah.

:

00:47:23,744 --> 00:47:24,054

Yeah, this

:

00:47:24,054 --> 00:47:24,594

brooke: has been fun.

:

00:47:24,594 --> 00:47:26,234

I really appreciate you guys having me.

:

00:47:26,324 --> 00:47:26,724

boys: Absolutely.

:

00:47:26,724 --> 00:47:27,064

Thank you.

:

00:47:27,064 --> 00:47:27,524

Appreciate it.

:

00:47:27,614 --> 00:47:30,374

And we'll check in once your

other endeavors- Yeah … pop

:

00:47:30,374 --> 00:47:30,434

brooke: up.

:

00:47:30,434 --> 00:47:33,384

When I start, you know,

online coaching, let's go.

:

00:47:33,904 --> 00:47:34,354

boys: Last night.

:

00:47:34,534 --> 00:47:34,864

Yeah.

:

00:47:35,194 --> 00:47:36,284

We'll catch you guys the next one.

:

00:47:36,824 --> 00:47:37,344

Cheers.

:

00:47:38,933 --> 00:47:39,073
