Shownotes

In this week's episode, I'm talking about how do I know if my podcast is a success?

There are many ways in which you can measure the success of your podcast.

Number of Listens

Number of downloads

You can find this information easily within the platform you use to publish your episodes.

You can also go into individual platforms like Apple Podcasts to find out analytics.

It's not just about the numbers.

Think back to why you started your podcast...

Was it simply to have 1000 downloads a week? Or was it to add value to your audience? or to build your authority in your zone of genius?

If you're not happy with the size of your listenership, what can you do to grow it?

Here are a few tips:

Ensure your episode content is something that your ideal listener wants to hear.

Are you promoting it enough? Make sure you have a range of posts and utilise your email list and website so everyone knows about your podcast!

Are you engaging with your listeners? do you reply to comments and thank people for reviews?

Do they know where to leave a review?

Can you offer more support to your listeners like a Facebook group? you could encourage listeners into the group to discuss the episodes, or go live to answer their questions.

Don't be disheartened. It takes time to grow an audience and podcasting is a long game.

Be consistent and committed.

I hope this has helped.

Welcome to podcasting one on one with me your host

Unknown:

Rachel. This podcast is for female business owners and

Unknown:

solopreneurs that are looking to start a podcast that add to your

Unknown:

own already awesome offering. I'll give you helpful advice

Unknown:

that you can take away and use in your podcasting journey. I

Unknown:

hope to answer those tricky questions that just keep you

Unknown:

from starting. Once a month, I'll be joined by other female

Unknown:

podcasters. They'll share their journey with you and offer tips

Unknown:

and advice they discovered along the way. Let's get started.

Unknown:

Hi, and welcome to this week's episode. Today's question is,

Unknown:

how do I know if my podcast is a success? There are many ways in

Unknown:

which you can measure the success of your podcast. As we

Unknown:

all know, let's just start with the cold hard data. So you can

Unknown:

measure the number of listeners that your episode has had or

Unknown:

your podcast overall, you can look at the number of downloads.

Unknown:

This, again is individual episodes and your podcast as a

Unknown:

whole, you can find this information very easily within

Unknown:

the platform that you use to publish your episodes. So with

Unknown:

Captivate, which is what I use, there's a dashboard, and it has

Unknown:

the overview of the metrics. And then you can dive into a little

Unknown:

bit more detail. You can also go to the individual platforms to

Unknown:

have a little look at the analytics, for example, Apple

Unknown:

podcasts, you can log into your Connect account and look at the

Unknown:

specific data around your podcast there. But as we all

Unknown:

know, it's not all about the numbers. Think back to why you

Unknown:

started your podcast. Was it simply to have 1000 downloads a

Unknown:

week? Or was it to add value to your audience, or to build your

Unknown:

authority in your zone of genius? If you're not happy with

Unknown:

the size of your listenership there are things that you can do

Unknown:

to grow it. Here are a few tips. Ensure your episode content is

Unknown:

something that your ideal listener wants to hear. Are you

Unknown:

staying on topic? are you answering the questions that

Unknown:

they're asking? Are you promoting it enough? Make sure

Unknown:

that you have a range of posts and utilise your email list and

Unknown:

your website so that everyone knows about your awesome

Unknown:

podcast? Are you engaging with your listeners? Do you reply to

Unknown:

comments and thank people for reviews? This is an important

Unknown:

one. Because that is what you know we're all striving for is

Unknown:

to get that all important engagement. And if they if your

Unknown:

listeners are taking the time to contact you send you a message

Unknown:

ask you questions, you have to make sure that you are replying

Unknown:

to them. It you know the engagement is a two way street.

Unknown:

You can't expect people to engage with you if you're not

Unknown:

prepared to engage back with them. Yeah, thanking them for

Unknown:

reviews. Also, do they know where to leave a review. Now

Unknown:

I've mentioned this before on this podcast, I find it

Unknown:

incredibly difficult, or it's a roundabout way to leave somebody

Unknown:

review for their podcast. I'm not an Apple user. I'm an

Unknown:

Android user. I can do give a star rating on Spotify on the

Unknown:

app. But the other ones I find incredibly difficult to actually

Unknown:

leave review. So you know, maybe do a video showing them where to

Unknown:

live, you have a simple link that you can use to leave a

Unknown:

review just to make it as easy as possible. To get that that

Unknown:

information from them. Could you offer more support to your

Unknown:

listeners, for example, a Facebook group, you could

Unknown:

encourage listeners to go into the group after an episode is

Unknown:

released on the day of release to discuss the topic that went

Unknown:

on. Perhaps you could go live within this group to answer

Unknown:

their questions or to talk more deeply on a particular subject.

Unknown:

This could be a great way to create engagement and increase

Unknown:

your listenership. Don't be disheartened though. It does

Unknown:

take time to grow an audience and podcasting is a long game.

Unknown:

My best advice is to be consistent and committed. I hope

Unknown:

this episode has helped you. If you have any questions or you'd

Unknown:

like to get some advice, or just a chat about podcasts, you're

Unknown:

more than welcome to book in a coffee chat with me. There'll be

Unknown:

a link in the show notes and And I would love to talk to you.

Unknown:
