In this heartfelt first episode, Wendy shares the deeply personal journey that shaped her life and inspired The Awakening Woman on the Rise. From growing up painfully shy and struggling with self-worth to discovering the transformative power of personal development and spiritual growth, Wendy opens up about the experiences that helped her reclaim her voice and rediscover her true self.
She explores why lasting confidence doesn't come before action—it grows because of it—and why the most important relationship we'll ever have is the one we have with ourselves. Wendy also introduces the core message of this podcast: awakening isn't about becoming perfect; it's about practicing self-awareness, embracing your authentic nature, and choosing to rise again and again.
The Shift Beneath the Words:
Rather than striving for perfection, true awakening comes from consistently reconnecting with your authentic self, embracing your inner strengths, and intentionally creating the life you're meant to live.

You are listening to The Awakening Woman on the Rise. If you are a woman who is seeking to live
Speaker:a more authentic life but are feeling not enough to step out fully just yet, you are in the right
Speaker:place. If you are a woman who is looking to live your personal truth and make the impact you truly
Speaker:desire, you are in the right place. I'm your host, Wendy Yacboski. Let's step out in this together.
Speaker:Hi, everyone. It's Wendy Yacboski of The Awakening Woman on the Rise.
Speaker:I'm so excited to begin this journey with you. And it really has been a journey already speaking
Speaker:for myself, because I have been an Awakening Woman on the Rise. Throughout my life,
Speaker:I have always been into personal development. I have always been into growing myself,
Speaker:into having richer and better experiences. But most importantly, I've been looking at
Speaker:having a better relationship with myself over my life. And to me, that is the Awakening Woman.
Speaker:Because we can learn all different kinds of skills about how to improve our work, to improve
Speaker:various things in our life. But the truth is, is that until we have a good relationship with
Speaker:ourselves, what I found is the rest is really hard to do. Because our work, our various relationships
Speaker:come from what we believe about ourselves, how much faith we have in ourselves, how much
Speaker:how much what do I want to say here, how much we're willing to show up in our lives.
Speaker:It means everything. So I created this podcast, so that you can recognize as well, that you are
Speaker:an Awakening Woman on the Rise. And if you feel like you've got some challenges, welcome to the
Speaker:Awakening Woman on the Rise group. Because the thing is, it's not about perfection. And it will
Speaker:never be about perfection. I read a quote that I'm going to paraphrase right now. But it said that
Speaker:awakening is not a feeling. It's a practice. And that's what we are going to be doing throughout
Speaker:this series and all series after this, is we are going to be practicing recognizing the truth
Speaker:about ourselves, which I would say is the more essential divine truth of ourselves.
Speaker:And practicing that. Something else that I've done in my life that you may recognize for yourself is
Speaker:that I used to believe that confidence came first. I'm telling you right now, if you don't already
Speaker:know this, it's not how it works. Action creates confidence. Actually, being willing to choose
Speaker:to act, to make a decision to act, and then acting will build confidence. There is no greater way.
Speaker:It doesn't just happen. And like myself, I know that you are looking to do new things.
Speaker:Otherwise, you wouldn't even consider the word reawakening. You wouldn't be listening to this
Speaker:podcast thinking, what might Wendy have to tell me that maybe I haven't thought of or I forgot about
Speaker:or I ignored for a little while, but it's bugging me. You know, it keeps coming back. That's when
Speaker:you know it's true, when it keeps coming back, something to do. So this is my intention for
Speaker:the Awakening Woman on the Rise, because the truth also is, and excuse me if I'm not
Speaker:actually paraphrasing this correctly, what the Dalai Lama said, but he gives women the credit
Speaker:as we continue to awaken, as we continue to show up in this world, that it will change the world.
Speaker:You know, when I was in grade school, which was probably, I'm not sure, grade four, five,
Speaker:six maybe, I remember being in a classroom with the most amazing teacher. His name was Mr. Houghton.
Speaker:I've never, ever forgotten him. And he was asking questions of the class, of course,
Speaker:and I was just kind of like collapsed, which can be so easy to do. I wasn't answering,
Speaker:I wasn't raising my hand. And somehow that blessed teacher realized that she's quite shy
Speaker:for her age. She's quite afraid for her age to give an answer, to make a point,
Speaker:to say something that she thinks. And this teacher, he was so interested and caring about me
Speaker:that he actually came to my home to talk to my parents about why might Wendy be so shy?
Speaker:Why might she not want to share her thoughts, answer questions in a class?
Speaker:To make a long story short, it didn't really end up going anywhere. I wished it would have,
Speaker:because I wanted that teacher to find out how insecure I was, how dominated I felt in various
Speaker:ways in my life, and how not good I felt about myself. Unfortunately, that wasn't the time
Speaker:when I started going into self-development and to learn how can I come out more in my life?
Speaker:How can I become more confident? But I will tell you that many years in my life after that
Speaker:did become involved in trying to become someone that I had lost at a young age.
Speaker:And I know that I am not the only child that has experienced that. I know that I'm not the only
Speaker:woman that still experiences that at times. This is where the awakening calling
Speaker:is coming through. I will share with you, and I'm happy to share with you, that my healing
Speaker:came when I started to become more spiritually learned. It was when I was in my 30s
Speaker:that I came across a program called the Science of Mind and Spirit.
Speaker:It was at a time in my life where I was feeling completely overwhelmed and unequipped in my job,
Speaker:in my relationships. It hurts to think about it, how poorly I felt about myself.
Speaker:And then a friend that I met where I lived at the time sent me a little booklet. She had moved to
Speaker:Vancouver from Penticton, where I was at the time many years ago. And it was a booklet titled The
Speaker:Science of Mind, and it had daily readings. And what I kind of leaned into when I first started
Speaker:reading about God in that magazine, which I had really shut the door on a few years ago,
Speaker:because I had felt that God wasn't there for me in what I was going through.
Speaker:I couldn't read the word God without kind of like a wall showing up. But then it started
Speaker:talking about how God was good, and so am I. And something in me shifted.
Speaker:I wanted to believe that God was good and that I am good. And it caused me to make the biggest
Speaker:change in my life. And that was to find out where there were what they call spiritual centers,
Speaker:not churches. They're more a new thought teaching. You could say more of a metaphysical
Speaker:teaching. And I found out that there was one in Calgary. And I left the job I was in. I left
Speaker:the city that I thought only special people got to be in because Penticton is so beautiful.
Speaker:And I moved to Calgary, and I started many, many, many years of classes and coming to believe
Speaker:that I was at choice. That was the greatest learning I had at that time of my life,
Speaker:because I had grown up believing I did not have a choice. That I had this little lot
Speaker:in my life that is what I had for the rest of my life. And it was the spiritual teaching
Speaker:of the science of mind and spirit that helped me realize that that, in fact, was not the truth.
Speaker:And it wasn't until many years later that I realized that I had believed something
Speaker:that limited me so much, but there was so much more for me. And my life was transformed
Speaker:in that moment. Yes, I continued classes. And then eventually, I moved into being what they
Speaker:call a practitioner of the science of mind and spirit, where I learned about prayer, where I
Speaker:learned to prove God, almost the goodness of God, and then eventually to become a minister.
Speaker:And I look back on my life. And while I hope you know, I'm not plugging for anyone to be
Speaker:taking on a spiritual life in that way, because I believe that spirit is different things to
Speaker:different people. What I am saying is that I look back on my life, and I ask myself,
Speaker:what would my life be like, if that would have never come in? And to be honest,
Speaker:it was not a very big picture. It was not a very happy picture. And so I will be bringing up
Speaker:spiritual principles at times in our episodes together, for the very purpose that there are
Speaker:universal laws that can help us. They're operating already. But there are universal laws that we can
Speaker:actually use to help co-create the life that it is, that we're not only wanting,
Speaker:but that I believe we're called to live. And it all boils down to the qualities that we are
Speaker:looking for in others, most often, are actually in fact, in ourselves. And I want to tell you
Speaker:something that if you're looking for them in someone else, it's because you know what they are.
Speaker:You know what you're looking for, something in you knows. And that is one of the things that I
Speaker:hope to impress upon you, I will plan to impress upon you, that you're not starting from ground
Speaker:zero at all. But this is a process of remembering. If I have read and studied so much, but it wasn't
Speaker:until I started to feel safe to surrender and believe that there is something I have to give
Speaker:someone else, it wouldn't have happened. It's not in the books. It's not in the studying. It's in
Speaker:what I was telling you before, that awakening is not a feeling first. It's a practice. I'm so glad
Speaker:you're here.
