In this episode, Lindy Hughson, Managing Editor & Publisher of PKN Packaging News, and Ralph Moyle, winner of the World Packaging Organisation's 2021 Lifetime Achievement award, discuss the importance of investing in employee training and sustainable business practices for a company's bottom line.

The episode starts with a discussion of Ralph’s achievements that led to his global recognition, and then reviews his career highlights before discussing the lessons learned from Golden Circle's introduction of shelf ready packaging. This leads to the observation that sustainability is a key driver for ensuring a business is profitable along with Ralph's views on the impact of technology and the increasing rate of change in packaging uptake of that technology over the past few decades.

The discussion moves on to the importance of training and how companies that fail to invest in their staff are missing out on significant returns on investment and losing opportunities to improve their business. Ralph also talks about the training courses available from the Australian Institute of Packaging and their continual updates to accommodate online delivery and changes in the industry.

We close out the episode with Ralph's views on the importance of sustainability, aspects of the circular economy that are yet to be solved and the increased effort that will be required to reach the APCO target of 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging. Ralph wraps up with the need to reduce food waste, some of AIP's greatest achievements and his advice for everyone in packaging.
