The viceroy had done everything she asked. A full year of longing. One last day — just don't sleep, and don't drink wine, because wine will put you to sleep. And on the last day he passes a spring that runs red and smells of wine, and he asks the servant, and he tastes it. And he falls into a sleep of seventy years. This shiur is the scene that follows, read word by word out of the Rebbe's own lashon. The armies pass. The servant hides. And then a carriage comes, and the king's daughter is sitting in it — and she stops. She comes down. She sits beside him. V'hikirah oso, she recognizes him. V'haysa mena'eres oso me'od — she shakes him with everything she has.V'lo ni'ar. He does not wake. And she begins to lament: how many years of labor this man gave to take me out — and because of one single day, he lost it. And she weeps, because there is enormous rachmanus on him, and on me — because I am still here, and I cannot get out.And then: acher kach lakcha mitpachas — she took the kerchief from her head, v'kasva alav b'dema'os, and she wrote on it with her tears, and she laid it down next to him. And she got up, and went back to her carriage, and drove away. What we work through:• Why did the servant hide from the soldiers? He was the one who was awake• She came down from the carriage and only then recognized him — what does that mean?• The question the room fought over: why does she have rachmanus on him first, and only then on herself? Isn't she the one who's been trapped all these years?• The answer, and it opens into everything: he is her only way out. If she has no compassion on him, there is no door• Which turns into a Torah on what an "us" actually is — two individuals who each stop thinking about themselves. Reb Avigdor Miller at the doctor: our foot is hurting. And why we protect our individuality inside a relationship even though it's the thing breaking it• Isarusa d'letata, isarusa d'leila — the awakening from below that has to come first, and why Mitzrayim was the one time it didn't• The lost princess is the voice you squash all year. She is constantly looking for an opening to wake you — and everything we do to bury her, ego first among them• Why the Shulchan Aruch says to raise your standard for Aseres Yemei Teshuva — and why that isn't a game• Thirty years of the same Al Chet. Is anything different? And why it can be different this year even though it looks the same and smells the same• Kel melech solei'ach u'mochel — the difference between selicha and mechila. Forgiving versus erasing. "I forgive but I don't forget" — and why the Ribono Shel Olam does neither• Teshuva me'ahava, and how zedonos become zechuyos• The whole arc from Rosh Chodesh Elul to Shemini Atzeres — and why the pinnacle of teshuva is the chazzan saying איה מקום כבודוShiur 21 in the series on Rebbe Nachman's Tale of the Lost Princess.#LostPrincess #BasMelech #RebNachman #RebbeNachman #RabbiNachmanOfBreslov #Breslov #Breslev #SippureiMaasiyos #Maasiyos #Teshuva #Teshuvah #TeshuvaMeAhava #YomKippur #AlChet #AseresYemeiTeshuva #Elul #RoshHashana #Selicha #Mechila #Sukkos #SimchasTorah #SheminiAtzeres #Ayeh #AyehMekomKevodo #LikuteiMoharan #LikuteyMoharan #Chassidus #Chassidut #Hisbodedus #Hitbodedut #Neshama #Ego #Shame #Humiliation #Relationships #Marriage #Isarusa #AvigdorMiller #ChasamSofer #TorahShiur #Shiur #JewishSpirituality #JewishGrowth #BaalTeshuva #Yiddishkeit #Torah #EilechVanaseh
