Travel isn’t just about seeing new sights; it’s a vital ingredient to our well-being, and Zoa Conner knows just how to blend it into our lives. In this lively episode of Sustain Your Vitality, Zoa, a PhD physicist and wellness guru, shares her philosophy on using travel as a supplement to enhance our lifestyles. She begins with a refreshing perspective that your lifestyle is the key to how you feel, and no matter where you are on your health journey, you hold the reins. With a playful tone, she dives into the Ayurvedic elements and how they can enrich our travel experiences and daily lives.

Each element—ether, air, fire, water, and earth—brings its own unique benefits that Zoa expertly connects to the act of traveling. She discusses ether as the need for space, encouraging us to find balance between solitude and social interaction. The air element signifies movement, prompting listeners to consider how travel can stimulate both physical activity and emotional release. Zoa’s infectious energy shines through as she describes the fiery transformation that travel can ignite within us, pushing us towards new experiences and personal growth. Water symbolizes adaptability and fluidity, reminding us to stay calm and flexible in our ever-changing lives, while earth represents stability, grounding us during our travels.

As the episode unfolds, Zoa emphasizes that travel is more than just a break from routine; it’s a powerful supplement that can help us fill the gaps in our well-being. She challenges listeners to reflect on their personal wellness deficiencies and how travel can address them. By the end, Zoa invites everyone to take her Wellness+Travel Profile quiz, adding a fun twist to the conversation and empowering listeners to align their travel plans with their wellness goals. With her light-hearted humor and insightful ideas, Zoa leaves us inspired to embrace travel as a means to cultivate vitality and balance in our lives.

Speaker B:

Let's go.

Speaker B:

This episode of Sustain your Vitality is all about using travel as a strategic supplement to your lifestyle.

Speaker B:

So what's a supplement?

Speaker B:

Well, I'll bet you know what a supplement is.

Speaker B:

In the wellness world, supplements are usually discussed in the area of diet and nutrition.

Speaker B:

In my view, supplements have a very particular job.

Speaker B:

Your body needs a particular amount of each nutrient in order to function well.

Speaker B:

When your diet supplies less than you need, supplements can and should be used to fill the gaps.

Speaker B:

So some people don't like to take supplements and they focus on optimizing their diet.

Speaker B:

Other people make liberal use of supplements so they don't need or are having a hard time with making the dietary changes.

Speaker B:

So if that's a nutritional supplement, but this episode is about travel as a supplement to your lifestyle, what exactly does that look like?

Speaker B:

Well, I look at travel combining with your lifestyle from an Ayurvedic perspective.

Speaker B:

So in Ayurveda there are five elements and I relate these elements to travel.

Speaker B:

And let me tell you how I do that.

Speaker B:

One element is the ether.

Speaker B:

So for me this signifies space, the need for space.

Speaker B:

Because your normal life has surrounded you by people, places and things.

Speaker B:

The need to have minimal space between you and society.

Speaker B:

You want connection, minimal space between you and the earth.

Speaker B:

You want to be connected and tethered to it.

Speaker B:

Space might look like, do you need to regulate your own schedule?

Speaker B:

Do you desire to be in community or do you desire to have some solitude?

Speaker B:

Another element is air, which to me signifies movement.

Speaker B:

This could be physical movement.

Speaker B:

Let's mobilize the sedentary body, or let's still the busy body.

Speaker B:

This could be emotional movement, emotional stress.

Speaker B:

Emotions in general have a digestion process.

Speaker B:

They need to move in and out of you.

Speaker B:

Let them float away, Encourage those emotions to move instead of getting stuck.

Speaker B:

There's an energetic movement.

Speaker B:

You can shift yourself into a positive energy state by shifting your location and the energy around you.

Speaker B:

The people, the spaces and the earth itself all have energy that can mingle with yours and either raise you up or drag you down.

Speaker B:

And then there's mental movement, shifting your thinking about yourself or the world or both.

Speaker B:

There's an element of fire, which to me signifies transformation.

Speaker B:

So travel can light a fire under your ass and it can fan the flames to get you moving again.

Speaker B:

Travel can take away the rocket fuel that is propelling you forward against your will.

Speaker B:

Travel can give you more of the world to process because you've had limited life experiences.

Speaker B:

And travel can take away the excess that is overwhelming you.

Speaker B:

Another element is water, which to me signifies fluidity, mental flexibility.

Speaker B:

It can be increased by the need to adapt.

Speaker B:

Cooling and calming water makes me feel cool and calm.

Speaker B:

But if the world is trying to kill you or attack you, travel can make it less than at home.

Speaker B:

Water can smooth the rough edges of life, or the rough edges which are you.

Speaker B:

It can change you.

Speaker B:

And you have water, you have fluidity.

Speaker B:

Do you need to conserve your personal river power?

Speaker B:

There's no need to be constantly operating from a place of whitewater rapids.

Speaker B:

Another element, earth, which to me signifies stability.

Speaker B:

Do you have flighty thoughts that need to have structure and consistency brought into place?

Speaker B:

Do you have constant movements that need to slow down and become rhythmic strength?

Speaker B:

Your strength can be built as the earth nourishes your growth.

Speaker B:

A steady temperature and a steady temperature and a temperament, stability, steadiness.

Speaker B:

So when you use travel as a supplement, any of these elements of your normal life can be added to shifted into with your travel.

Speaker B:

The question is, does it stick well?

Speaker B:

Travel is 100% bioavailable.

Speaker B:

It is the best supplement there is for your lifestyle.

Speaker B:

Your entire being is immersed in this new culture, new new place, new foods, new energy, new movement, new people.

Speaker B:

You would have to work very hard to not absorb the effects of your travel and take it home with you.

Speaker B:

The question is, how long will it last?

Speaker B:

And that depends on how deficient your lifestyle is for the things that light you up, calm you down and support the best version of you that there is.

Speaker B:

The more deficient you are, the more travel you will need to feel balanced, whole, powerful, sexy and loving.

Speaker B:

Everyone's lifestyle has deficiencies of some type.
