Shownotes

Have you had a miracle in your life recently? If not, you might want to look at how tightly you’re trying to control everything. I mean really, how is God going to show you that miracles really happen if there’s not even a tiny crack to let the unexpected in?

We think we know best, we think we know exactly how things need to be done. But tell me, how is that working out for you? Have you noticed that no matter how much we try to control life we really can’t?

If you want the little magic and miracles to appear in your life you have to open a space for them! Stop working so hard to control everything!

In this episode I’ll talk about surrender: not in a way that you are turning your personal power over to anyone, but in a way that allows the Universe to guide you in the same direction but in an easier way. Once I gave up personal attachments and expectations that things would work out a certain way, life truly became magical for me.

Surrender into the idea that you don’t know everything, and you don’t have to make everything happen.

 In this episode you will:

  • Hear stories of unexpected income that seem impossible and unimaginable
  • Learn how living in the magic of life is fun and easy
  • Learn when and why to set your expectations low
  • Learn the value of an affirmation that speaks to your heart and soul and how to create that meaningful affirmation.

Are you willing to see that miracles really happen?

I really hope to connect with you personally so please send me a message here or join me in my Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/connectednesswithrevkaren. And in the meantime, enjoy the show!

Rev Karen:

Hello, and welcome to the connectedness podcast.

Rev Karen:

As you guessed it.

Rev Karen:

I talk about connection on this podcast connection with the world

Rev Karen:

around us, everything seen and unseen living and not living even.

Rev Karen:

And whether you feel it or.

Rev Karen:

We're connected.

Rev Karen:

I'm gonna talk about how these connections affect our daily lives

Rev Karen:

and how we can learn to live a better life once we recognize them.

Rev Karen:

So welcome to the show.

Rev Karen:

I'm your host, Reverend care in Cleveland..

Rev Karen:

Hello again.

Rev Karen:

Today.

Rev Karen:

I want to talk about living a magical life.

Rev Karen:

Wouldn't it be fun to just walk around and unexpectedly have little

Rev Karen:

bits of magic and wonderment and miracles happen throughout the day.

Rev Karen:

Things that are totally unexpected.

Rev Karen:

It's so joyful and so much fun.

Rev Karen:

When unexpectedly good things happen, isn't it.

Rev Karen:

Well, here's the thing.

Rev Karen:

If you want to live a magical life.

Rev Karen:

You need to stop trying to control everything.

Rev Karen:

Think about it.

Rev Karen:

If you know how the magic trick has done.

Rev Karen:

You're not going to be amazed or awestruck or inspired when

Rev Karen:

you see someone pull it off.

Rev Karen:

You might be impressed by their technique.

Rev Karen:

But if you know how everything is done.

Rev Karen:

It's just not as much fun, same thing with your life.

Rev Karen:

You can have a magical life with little miracles happening all the

Rev Karen:

time, but not when you're trying to control every little detail.

Rev Karen:

And if you are trying to control every aspect of your life.

Rev Karen:

Let me ask you a question.

Rev Karen:

How is it working for you?

Rev Karen:

Is everything working out exactly.

Rev Karen:

Like it's supposed to.

Rev Karen:

You are going to have to release control.

Rev Karen:

If you want to have all inspiring, amazing events randomly happened in your life.

Rev Karen:

Let's say maybe you're planning out exactly how to have an income of.

Rev Karen:

I don't know, 2002.

Rev Karen:

Uh, not $2,000.

Rev Karen:

$200,000 this year.

Rev Karen:

You know exactly what you need to do every week.

Rev Karen:

You know exactly how much money you need to spend on things.

Rev Karen:

You know exactly how much time you're going to put in working why, and

Rev Karen:

you're going to take off everything.

Rev Karen:

But maybe if you didn't try to control it that much and

Rev Karen:

didn't have to work that hard.

Rev Karen:

And.

Rev Karen:

Didn't have to try to maintain control leading to higher

Rev Karen:

blood pressure and stress.

Rev Karen:

What, if you let it go a little bit.

Rev Karen:

And what if.

Rev Karen:

Someone gave you a little extra money or there was some extra

Rev Karen:

vacation time that came in.

Rev Karen:

Or maybe someone offered you a plane ticket somewhere, or, a free rental car.

Rev Karen:

And maybe it could come out better than you expected.

Rev Karen:

Even for the same amount of income or for the same amount of time.

Rev Karen:

But if you are too busy with your head down controlling things, You

Rev Karen:

can't look up and look around and see what's being offered to you.

Rev Karen:

Sometimes.

Rev Karen:

What we miss.

Rev Karen:

Is even better than what we expected.

Rev Karen:

In the last episode, I talked just a little bit about my trip to Kenya.

Rev Karen:

And I want to expand on that story right now.

Rev Karen:

Now, of course, this trip to Kenya was a complete bucket item.

Rev Karen:

I had wanted to do this for years and years.

Rev Karen:

I wanted to go to Kenya and see the animals.

Rev Karen:

But I always felt like I couldn't really even dream about it because.

Rev Karen:

It just was going to be too expensive, just so far over my budget.

Rev Karen:

Just so unrealistic.

Rev Karen:

I couldn't really even dream about it.

Rev Karen:

Well, let's be real I didn't even have a hundred dollars to go somewhere.

Rev Karen:

So going to Kenya was most, definitely over my Patchett

Rev Karen:

but the opportunity came up after I started my new job.

Rev Karen:

Someone told me they were going and I jumped on it.

Rev Karen:

I was like, you know what?

Rev Karen:

I think I can do it.

Rev Karen:

I want to go with you.

Rev Karen:

So there were just three of us going.

Rev Karen:

One person was planning it.

Rev Karen:

I decided I'm not going to plan any of it.

Rev Karen:

I'm going to let this trip reveal itself as it needs to be, because

Rev Karen:

I don't know anything about Kenya.

Rev Karen:

I don't know anything about where to see.

Rev Karen:

Anything in Kenya.

Rev Karen:

I'm just going to go.

Rev Karen:

I'm going to hook up with the.

Rev Karen:

Tour driver and whatever happens happens.

Rev Karen:

So my only expectation and intention for this trip was just connect

Rev Karen:

with the earth and breathe the air.

Rev Karen:

And just be there.

Rev Karen:

That's what I wanted to do.

Rev Karen:

Yes, of course.

Rev Karen:

I wanted to see the animals.

Rev Karen:

Of course.

Rev Karen:

But I was afraid if I had too high of expectations of

Rev Karen:

what animals I needed to see.

Rev Karen:

I was going to be disappointed.

Rev Karen:

I thought for sure.

Rev Karen:

If I put it out there, what animals I wanted to see, I

Rev Karen:

was going to be disappointed.

Rev Karen:

So I gave up control of everything.

Rev Karen:

I just turned it over.

Rev Karen:

Said, whatever happens happens.

Rev Karen:

And.

Rev Karen:

I'm good with it.

Rev Karen:

Just let me.

Rev Karen:

Breathe the air and touch the ground.

Rev Karen:

I really thought that going on safari in Kenya was going to be upwards of $10,000.

Rev Karen:

And.

Rev Karen:

I don't know where I got that number from.

Rev Karen:

I had probably looked at safari packages before, but.

Rev Karen:

I don't know where I got the number from.

Rev Karen:

I thought it was going to be super expensive.

Rev Karen:

So pleasant surprise.

Rev Karen:

Number one, it was far, far less than that.

Rev Karen:

Even with the airfare between Seattle and Kenya.

Rev Karen:

It was far less than that.

Rev Karen:

And we had an excellent guide.

Rev Karen:

I thought we were getting this trip for a steal for what the driver quoted us.

Rev Karen:

I couldn't believe it because once we actually got there and we

Rev Karen:

went to the lodges, the hotels, the rooms that we stayed in.

Rev Karen:

They were fantastic.

Rev Karen:

The food was fantastic.

Rev Karen:

And of course the scenery was fantastic.

Rev Karen:

The first day of safari, our guide Jeffrey picks us up and

Rev Karen:

we head off to a Conservancy.

Rev Karen:

Now we're super excited.

Rev Karen:

I was super excited.

Rev Karen:

First safari ever.

Rev Karen:

And we're finally going we're in this place where driving out.

Rev Karen:

And we get to our first lodge.

Rev Karen:

We go in for lunch, tons of food.

Rev Karen:

Unbelievable room.

Rev Karen:

. Then we go back out.

Rev Karen:

After lunch to go see the animals.

Rev Karen:

So we drive . Into the Conservancy and we see.

Rev Karen:

Baboons.

Rev Karen:

Huge troop of baboons, probably several troops.

Rev Karen:

I don't know.

Rev Karen:

They were just all over the place and we stayed there.

Rev Karen:

And watch them for quite a while.

Rev Karen:

If you've ever seen or been in a safari van, you know, that the

Rev Karen:

roof either lifts up or opens up.

Rev Karen:

So we're standing there looking out, just staring at

Rev Karen:

these baboons and doing what baboons do.

Rev Karen:

And then some Gazelles come by and we're so immersed.

Rev Karen:

In their experience.

Rev Karen:

We're with the animals . And it was amazing

Rev Karen:

and to all of us were just awestruck because there we are.

Rev Karen:

Practically face-to-face with all these animals.

Rev Karen:

These baboons and these Gazelles, and they're so beautiful.

Rev Karen:

And we're just standing there looking at them, taking them

Rev Karen:

in as they live their life.

Rev Karen:

As they should live.

Rev Karen:

Uncaged.

Rev Karen:

Unleashed.

Rev Karen:

However it is.

Rev Karen:

You normally see these wild animals.

Rev Karen:

It was simply amazing.

Rev Karen:

Eventually I decide to turn around and see if we're sharing space with anything else.

Rev Karen:

Now I am not a squealer.

Rev Karen:

I don't jump for joy.

Rev Karen:

I don't scream when I get excited.

Rev Karen:

However I turned around.

Rev Karen:

And I couldn't believe it.

Rev Karen:

There was a huge hurdle zebras and I squealed so loud and I yelled zebras.

Rev Karen:

And fortunately I didn't scare them.

Rev Karen:

I don't think I was that loud.

Rev Karen:

But I was super, super excited.

Rev Karen:

They were right there right by the van.

Rev Karen:

Right in our space.

Rev Karen:

And there we were spending our time.

Rev Karen:

With them, they were spending their time with us doing what zebras do.

Rev Karen:

It was the most fantastic thing in the world.

Rev Karen:

So it was events like this.

Rev Karen:

It got more and more magical.

Rev Karen:

Every time we went somewhere and every day more magical.

Rev Karen:

I specifically remember.

Rev Karen:

After probably the second or third day we were driving somewhere.

Rev Karen:

And I thought.

Rev Karen:

This just gets better every day.

Rev Karen:

There's no way it can top what we've seen so far.

Rev Karen:

There's no way it can get any better than this.

Rev Karen:

And then we went to Maasai, Mara.

Rev Karen:

Which is an amazing, amazing place.

Rev Karen:

And it did it got more magical.

Rev Karen:

The lodging got more magical.

Rev Karen:

The animals got more magical.

Rev Karen:

It was simply amazing.

Rev Karen:

I didn't plan any of this.

Rev Karen:

I didn't know what we were going to see.

Rev Karen:

I didn't even let the driver tell me what to expect.

Rev Karen:

Because I didn't want to know.

Rev Karen:

It's like, surprise me.

Rev Karen:

I don't want to have any expectations about what we're going to see or not see.

Rev Karen:

I just showed up and let life happen.

Rev Karen:

Now towards the end of our trip.

Rev Karen:

After magical day after magical day.

Rev Karen:

There was two nights left on the safari.

Rev Karen:

And Jeffrey, our driver says.

Rev Karen:

Hey, do you guys mind if I pick up my brother, he's been sacked and.

Rev Karen:

I'd like to use them in the future to help with the safaris.

Rev Karen:

Do you mind if he goes with us the last two nights?

Rev Karen:

And there's only three of us, my two friends and I, and

Rev Karen:

we're like, yeah, that's fine.

Rev Karen:

There's plenty of room here.

Rev Karen:

We have what?

Rev Karen:

A 6, 7, 8 passenger van.

Rev Karen:

We got plenty of room.

Rev Karen:

Go ahead and pick them up.

Rev Karen:

It's fine with us.

Rev Karen:

So we get to a gas station where he's picking up his brother.

Rev Karen:

And I'm not going to go into a lot of details right now.

Rev Karen:

It's probably a story for another time.

Rev Karen:

It's another lesson.

Rev Karen:

But

Rev Karen:

we pick up his brother.

Rev Karen:

I meet him.

Rev Karen:

And.

Rev Karen:

Let's just say we hit it off.

Rev Karen:

We started a long distance romance and got married.

Rev Karen:

And now we finally live in the same house because we both can travel back and forth.

Rev Karen:

And that was completely unexpected.

Rev Karen:

There was a time that I was.

Rev Karen:

Working on a, trying to get, a romantic relationship.

Rev Karen:

But when I started looking for my house, I just told myself, you know what?

Rev Karen:

I don't care right now.

Rev Karen:

Let me just get through all my crap.

Rev Karen:

I can work on it again later.

Rev Karen:

And meeting someone was the absolutely last thing I was expecting.

Rev Karen:

I honestly, I didn't really present myself in the best way on the safari,

Rev Karen:

as far as my clothes and my hair and my.

Rev Karen:

, everything I was on safari.

Rev Karen:

I didn't care.

Rev Karen:

I had no expectation of any kind of romance.

Rev Karen:

So again, just showing.

Rev Karen:

Releasing all expectation

Rev Karen:

. The thing about this trip is it was very

Rev Karen:

the trip, but it was very clear to me.

Rev Karen:

That if I could release control and be absolutely open to what life offered.

Rev Karen:

Life was going to show me something great.

Rev Karen:

Life was going to show me something magical.

Rev Karen:

I just needed to be open to possibility.

Rev Karen:

Now I'll be honest.

Rev Karen:

I am not always as open as I should be.

Rev Karen:

And when I discover that I am getting too attached to outcomes when I'm

Rev Karen:

trying to control stuff so much.

Rev Karen:

I try to get back in that frame of mind because.

Rev Karen:

I know.

Rev Karen:

I've seen it happen.

Rev Karen:

I've proven to myself how great things can be.

Rev Karen:

When.

Rev Karen:

I don't try to micromanage stuff.

Rev Karen:

And it's not just this, it's not just the trip to Africa.

Rev Karen:

It's across all aspects of my life.

Rev Karen:

I thought I was going to go to Kenya.

Rev Karen:

I was going to put a check mark next to safari on my bucket list.

Rev Karen:

And when I came back, I tell people, yeah, it was great, right?

Rev Karen:

Yeah.

Rev Karen:

I saw lots of animals.

Rev Karen:

It was wonderful.

Rev Karen:

Who knew.

Rev Karen:

That now.

Rev Karen:

I would be taking people to see the animals on safari in Kenya.

Rev Karen:

Who knew that I would be spending every other Christmas in Kenya.

Rev Karen:

It's just one of those things.

Rev Karen:

That you can't possibly even dream up.

Rev Karen:

If I wanted to spend every other Christmas in Kenya, I never could have made it work.

Rev Karen:

You got to let the magic happen by itself.

Rev Karen:

Just concentrate on.

Rev Karen:

The end results, the feelings you want, how you want to be in this

Rev Karen:

space, how you want to be in life.

Rev Karen:

So I can assure you.

Rev Karen:

None of that was part of my plan and it's all been wonderful.

Rev Karen:

There's thousands of ways things can show up.

Rev Karen:

We don't have to control the exact details of it.

Rev Karen:

Now I want to give you a little tip for how you can allow

Rev Karen:

things to happen like this.

Rev Karen:

Like I said, there's a thousand.

Rev Karen:

10,000 ways things can happen.

Rev Karen:

If you don't try to control every detail.

Rev Karen:

I will be honest.

Rev Karen:

I tried to quit my job.

Rev Karen:

I tried to figure out and control how to quit my job.

Rev Karen:

For probably.

Rev Karen:

Almost my entire professional life, certainly the last 20

Rev Karen:

years, if not more than that.

Rev Karen:

But I could never quite make it happen so that I was comfortable in actually

Rev Karen:

quitting without going to another job.

Rev Karen:

Of course.

Rev Karen:

It wasn't just one specific job I wanted to quit.

Rev Karen:

I didn't want to work for anyone.

Rev Karen:

I wanted to work for myself.

Rev Karen:

And it has been like that almost all of my professional career that I've been trying

Rev Karen:

to figure out how to work for myself, but I could never quite figure out.

Rev Karen:

How to make it happen.

Rev Karen:

I could never quite feel confident to take the leap, to quit a job

Rev Karen:

without having another job lined up.

Rev Karen:

And that wasn't the ultimate goal.

Rev Karen:

But let me tell you what I did.

Rev Karen:

Having absolutely no idea how it was going to happen.

Rev Karen:

And this is my tip for you today.

Rev Karen:

What if.

Rev Karen:

Now I got this from someone by the name of Marie Manoucheri.

Rev Karen:

I have followed her and.

Rev Karen:

Gone to her for many years.

Rev Karen:

And she talks about what if statements.

Rev Karen:

Opening us up to possibility.

Rev Karen:

I'll use myself as an example.

Rev Karen:

I wanted to quit my job.

Rev Karen:

So my, what if statement was.

Rev Karen:

What if I quit my job this year, simple as that.

Rev Karen:

What if I quit my job this year?

Rev Karen:

When you.

Rev Karen:

Phrase it like that you start going places in your brain

Rev Karen:

that you might not normally go.

Rev Karen:

What if I quit my job this year?

Rev Karen:

What if I quit my job this year?

Rev Karen:

Using the, what if, kind of opens you up to what are all

Rev Karen:

the things that would mean?

Rev Karen:

And what are all the wonderful possibilities if that were true?

Rev Karen:

So if I quit my job, I might be happier.

Rev Karen:

I might feel more freedom.

Rev Karen:

I might.

Rev Karen:

Be doing things that I really like to do enjoy doing.

Rev Karen:

I will tell you that since I quit my job.

Rev Karen:

And this was totally unexpected.

Rev Karen:

I sing.

Rev Karen:

I sing to the animals.

Rev Karen:

I sing as I'm washing the dishes.

Rev Karen:

I don't know what's wrong with me.

Rev Karen:

But it's wonderful.

Rev Karen:

I'm happy.

Rev Karen:

I love it.

Rev Karen:

I don't sing when people are in the house.

Rev Karen:

And I swear it's because I quit my job because even when I was working from

Rev Karen:

home, But employed by someone else.

Rev Karen:

I didn't sing.

Rev Karen:

Okay, so use your own.

Rev Karen:

What if statement?

Rev Karen:

So what if I retired?

Rev Karen:

What if.

Rev Karen:

I doubled my income this year.

Rev Karen:

Now what this is going to mean is that you don't have to come up with the solutions.

Rev Karen:

You just have to be open to how it happens.

Rev Karen:

Oh, yeah, here's the best part.

Rev Karen:

I never ever, ever could have orchestrated how it happened, that I quit my job.

Rev Karen:

Never.

Rev Karen:

And I'm not going to get into details.

Rev Karen:

About how I.

Rev Karen:

Was filling out paperwork online in Kenya, over Christmas,

Rev Karen:

forming my own corporation.

Rev Karen:

But again, Who, how could I have ever planned that?

Rev Karen:

How could I have ever planned that I was on vacation in Dubai on my way to Kenya.

Rev Karen:

When I said to someone.

Rev Karen:

Wait.

Rev Karen:

Let's do this this way.

Rev Karen:

Let me form my corporation.

Rev Karen:

And this is how the, this is how it can work out.

Rev Karen:

We don't know what's going to happen.

Rev Karen:

We have absolutely no idea how things can happen.

Rev Karen:

But you need to be open to them.

Rev Karen:

So what if statements I'd really love to know?

Rev Karen:

That you're using somewhat if statements I'd really love to hear.

Rev Karen:

Things that have come to you or happened because of what if statements.

Rev Karen:

What if I had fun, what if I went to Hawaii?

Rev Karen:

What if I laughed more?

Rev Karen:

What if I went to a movie tomorrow?

Rev Karen:

All these things are possible.

Rev Karen:

If it seems impossible, start it with a, what if statement?

Rev Karen:

And see what happens.

Rev Karen:

And you can change it every day.

Rev Karen:

Well, you can do the same one.

Rev Karen:

So I started the process.

Rev Karen:

In April.

Rev Karen:

And I did a, what if I quit my job?

Rev Karen:

And I did it for months.

Rev Karen:

It's part of my morning routine to do a, what if statement?

Rev Karen:

I did it for months.

Rev Karen:

And.

Rev Karen:

Okay.

Rev Karen:

I didn't quit my job by December, but I did in January.

Rev Karen:

Better than not at all.

Rev Karen:

Don't you think?

Rev Karen:

What could be better in your life?

Rev Karen:

Where could you think bigger?

Rev Karen:

What if the flood gates open to you thinking bigger and

Rev Karen:

having more possibility?

Rev Karen:

Wouldn't that be fantastic.

Rev Karen:

Wouldn't that be magical.

Rev Karen:

What if life was magical?

Rev Karen:

What if life was magical?

Rev Karen:

What if I experienced miracles every single day.

Rev Karen:

What if.

Rev Karen:

I gave up control.

Rev Karen:

I'd love to hear your progress.
