Hello and welcome to Women in
the Coaching Arena podcast.
2
:I'm so glad you are here.
3
:I'm Jo Lott, a business mentor
and ICF accredited coach
4
:Microphone (Samson Q2U Microphone):
and I help coaches to
5
:build brilliant businesses.
6
:I know that when you prepare to enter
the arena, there is fear, self doubt,
7
:comparison, anxiety, uncertainty.
8
:You can tend to armor up and
protect yourself from vulnerability.
9
:In this podcast, I'll be sharing
honest, not hype, practical and
10
:emotional tools to support you to make
the difference that you are here for.
11
:Dare greatly.
12
:You belong in this arena.
13
:Hello, welcome to the 63rd episode
of women in the coaching arena.
14
:I am so glad you are here.
15
:I am about to leave, to go to Sussex
for a yoga retreat for two nights.
16
:So I cannot wait.
17
:The sun is shining and it's
right next to the beach.
18
:And I'm so, so excited.
19
:But I wanted to squeeze in this episode
before I left, because I have just had
20
:a message from uh lovely coach who has
been trying to market her business.
21
:And what I noticed when I looked at her
page was that she's selling balance.
22
:And whilst that's all we want and
that's why I'm going on my yoga retreat.
23
:And that's what most of
us are seeking in life.
24
:It sadly, doesn't cut through
enough to actually pay for.
25
:So in this episode, I will focused on
the most lucrative coaching niches.
26
:Because sadly, no one pays for coaching.
27
:And I remember when I first trained as
a coach and heard this, I thought, what
28
:rubbish, what are you talking about?
29
:And now I get it because we just don't
prioritize things unless there is an
30
:urgent must have need in our life.
31
:So it's a really tricky thing and I
encourage you to always analyze exactly
32
:why you are paying for something.
33
:So let's talk about types of
coaching niches and how to
34
:make them even more profitable.
35
:So let's start with the business coaching
niche, because this is the one that I
36
:know most people think is the only one
you can actually make money from doing.
37
:But actually what I've discovered since
doing this niche myself is that actually
38
:lots of people also fail in this niche.
39
:And like, you may be thinking oh,
you know, the only people making
40
:any money is the business coaches.
41
:And I used to think the same, but
even if you are going to do business
42
:coaching, you need to get more specific.
43
:So if we think about different ways of
getting more specific in this niche,
44
:firstly, would be to get more clients.
45
:And I have a client I'm working with
at the moment who said she didn't
46
:want to mention the client word.
47
:And I said, I also don't want to
mention the client word, but I have
48
:done polls and all sorts of things.
49
:When I say, what do you ultimately want?
50
:And people just say clients.
51
:Well, this person wants it to do
is talk about growing your business
52
:and those more generic terms.
53
:But we also need to add the, so that,
you know, so grow your business so
54
:that you get clients and get to make
the impact and income that you want.
55
:So even in what may seem to be
profitable niches, you still
56
:need to be super specific.
57
:What exactly does that mean?
58
:Is that.
59
:Tech companies get clients, is
that coaches get clients, is
60
:that counselors get clients.
61
:Like who exactly are you going
to specialize in helping.
62
:Another one in the business,
coaching niche is sales.
63
:So you can be a specific sales
coach to help people to really
64
:nail those conversations.
65
:You can also get hired by companies to
help them to train their salespeople.
66
:I had someone that was previously
in my business of coaching program.
67
:So this particular coach that I
was working with really, really
68
:struggled with the lack of team and
social events and that type of thing.
69
:What I noticed was she was
an amazing sales person.
70
:And I was like, how have you never thought
to combine your sales skills with training
71
:teams so you get that buzz of being with
a team and using your coaching skills
72
:with others who need that sales skill.
73
:Because I do think often what we do
as a coach is try and immediately
74
:forget everything we ever did in our
lives and where I have seen people
75
:have the most success is by utilizing
all of their previous experience and
76
:bringing that into that business.
77
:So there are lots of different
angles you can go with this business
78
:coaching niche, but I do not want to
spend too much time because I want to
79
:cover lots of other niches as well.
80
:So let's talk about the executive
leadership coaching niches now.
81
:So I have had lots of clients
successful with helping people
82
:build leadership skills.
83
:Kate waterfall hill managed to
cut through the noise with really
84
:resonating posts about bad management.
85
:And that is how she now helps leaders
become better leaders because they
86
:may see themselves or see someone
they know in those posts and think.
87
:Yeah.
88
:You know, you've really got it.
89
:You understand where I'm at?
90
:Another person that has done
really well is Louise Thompson.
91
:She initially was focusing on
helping comms leaders develop
92
:their leadership skills.
93
:She is still doing that.
94
:Then she's also now using Tik-Tok, which
helps you to be a little bit more generic.
95
:Because Tech-Talk will promote
your content to those who
96
:are interested in leadership.
97
:So you don't have to be quite as
niche if you're using TikTok as you
98
:do on some of the other platforms.
99
:So Louise has done super, super well
resonating with her ideal client because
100
:she was a previous comms director.
101
:So again, how can you use your experience?
102
:To really resonate with your ideal
client, knowing that most ideal clients
103
:want to work with someone who has
achieved and been through the same
104
:thing that they want to go through.
105
:And as coaches, we know that that isn't
required, but as someone purchasing
106
:coaching, a lot of the time, that
is something that people look for.
107
:Let's talk now about financial coaching.
108
:I have another client who I am desperate
to help move into this type of coaching.
109
:She has been a finance director for years.
110
:And is really resisting niching
down, despite the fact she absolutely
111
:loves this niche, but she is
fortunately going on my yoga retreat.
112
:So I'm looking forward to
discussing that when we are there.
113
:Because it's such a great
niche in so many ways.
114
:So you can obviously niche into something
like the money mindset which denise
115
:Duffield-Thomas does really well.
116
:But you can also niche into helping
business owners with their finances.
117
:If that's something that
you are happy to do.
118
:And balance that with the emotional
side as well, because a lot of the
119
:time, it's not just about the numbers.
120
:People will avoid looking at
the numbers because of the fears
121
:and all of those other things.
122
:So it's such a great niche.
123
:If you are happy to really dive into
that, understand the numbers, but also
124
:understand the emotional side of things.
125
:Let's move on to career coaching niches.
126
:I have had lots of clients successful in
this niche and I previously used to be a
127
:career coach so I know this niche well.
128
:What lots of my clients have been
successful doing is figuring out what
129
:they want to do next in their career.
130
:So that kind of career transition phase.
131
:I've had a wonderful client, Natasha
gain lots of clients in this niche to
132
:help them figure out their next move.
133
:There are also ways of going
really specific in this niche.
134
:And lots of my clients have done this
by choosing a specific industry that you
135
:want to help people change career with.
136
:Also in the career coaching niche,
you can have gain a promotion.
137
:Or get a better paying job.
138
:That is something that most
people want because we are all
139
:obsessed by climbing the ladder.
140
:So that is another angle you
can use in career coaching.
141
:Let's talk about life coaching
now, because this is what I find
142
:the trickiest niche to sell.
143
:Because despite the fact we all need
every angle in our life sorting out.
144
:Most of the time we get one urgent
problem that makes us purchase
145
:something or look into doing something.
146
:So maybe you are having difficulties
in your marriage or relationship, and
147
:that's the kind of crux that makes
you think I need to do something.
148
:But then at that point, You are
looking for someone to help you
149
:with that particular problem
rather than general life coaching.
150
:The same with someone
helping you with your kids.
151
:Like there will be a crux point that
helps you to think you know, my kids
152
:are leaving home and now I'm feeling
really lost and I need to figure out
153
:what I'm going to do with my life.
154
:So that is a way, if you do want to
do more general life coaching, you can
155
:think about a specific time in people's
lives that they will seek out support.
156
:I guess what could also fall into the life
coaching niche is overcoming an addiction.
157
:One of my clients, Chloe
helps people to stop drinking.
158
:so helping people with a
specific problem in their life.
159
:I think the more general one, like
I talked about at the beginning of
160
:cultivating balance is really tricky.
161
:If you really do want to go into this, I
would advise, picking that type of person,
162
:like entrepreneurs who need balance and
need to connect back to their vision,
163
:why they doing this, that type of thing.
164
:So anything you can do to gain
an extra edge especially in
165
:this general life coaching niche
will really, really help you.
166
:Okay.
167
:The final one I will cover
is relationship coaching.
168
:And this reminds me to tell
you that people pay for health,
169
:wealth, and relationships.
170
:So think about how you can hook your
particular niche into those buckets,
171
:health, wealth, or relationships.
172
:Generally wealth, and any return on
investment you can, who can too is
173
:way easier to prioritize, but then
there are also people that will
174
:pay for health and relationships.
175
:So in this relationship, coaching niche,
you may want to help people improve their
176
:relationships with their partners, maybe
with their children be a better parent.
177
:Maybe it is a dating coach
to attract a great partner
178
:and what's holding them back.
179
:I'm hoping you are noticing the theme
through reflecting on this podcast.
180
:That people pay for specific problems
to be sorted out in their life.
181
:And that's a really tricky mindset
shift for a coach when we learn,
182
:we can help everyone with anything.
183
:And we are so desperate to do
this and use our amazing skills.
184
:But I think if you are struggling
with this, please just think how
185
:much of a difference will you be
able to make when you can actually
186
:help real people with real problems?
187
:And know that when they are in the front
door, you will get to do all of the
188
:amazing work you love in the back door.
189
:Let me summarize where we went today.
190
:So I talked about some
profitable coaching niches.
191
:Starting with business coaching.
192
:Moving on to executive
and leadership coaching.
193
:Then I covered financial coaching.
194
:Career coaching.
195
:Life coaching.
196
:And relationship coaching.
197
:There are loads of other niches.
198
:This is not saying other
niches aren't profitable.
199
:There's obviously health
coaching, fitness coaching.
200
:Loads of things I have failed to
mention here because we only have so
201
:much time but I hope what you have
heard, gives you the inspiration to
202
:think about how you can help solve real
problems with your coaching skills.
203
:If you want my help in doing this,
this is what I do in my program.
204
:The business of coaching, because once
you have your niche, you still need a
205
:really good offer and you still need
to become an expert in your field and
206
:become an expert marketeer as well.
207
:That is a skill that needs to develop.
208
:It isn't just something
that you should know.
209
:If you have never practiced
marketing and these skills before.
210
:So do join us -you will find
the link in the show notes
211
:to the business of coaching.
