Shownotes

Join us as we dive into aligning your business practices with the seasons. In this episode, we discuss the energy of winter, embracing rest and renewal, and setting intentions for a productive new year. Discover how to navigate the resistance to rest and find balance between hibernation and productivity.

Key Takeaways:

- Winter brings an intuitive need for rest and renewal, allowing space for recharge and rebuilding.

- Aligning your energy with the season can enhance productivity while maintaining groundedness.

- Instead of rushing into action on January 1st, take time to restore, reflect, organize, and set yourself up for success in February or March when plans tend to take off.

- Start by celebrating accomplishments from the past year before focusing on areas that didn't feel aligned or served you well.

Take some time this week to reflect on your journey over the past year. Celebrate your achievements, identify areas that need improvement or alignment, and set intentions for a successful new year ahead. Remember that restoration is just as important as taking action. Let's embrace this season of reflection together!

Transcripts

Jessica:

Hello, and welcome back to the DeEply Rooted Business Podcast.

2

:

We are back together after taking a short

little break while we served our clients

3

:

and just dealt with the holiday craziness.

4

:

But as things are winding down, I

think in client land for both of us

5

:

and the winter solstice was yesterday,

we wanted to talk about, or begin to

6

:

talk about the seasons in business.

7

:

Rachel had messaged me with this

idea about aligning your business

8

:

practices with the seasons and.

9

:

Me being an Ayurveda girly, I already

do that and that's totally my jam.

10

:

So I was like, yeah, let's do

it and let's talk about it.

11

:

So today we're talking about winter.

12

:

Rachel: Yeah, I think there's

so much energy in winter.

13

:

There's a resistance to rest,

which is the intuitive side.

14

:

Of that winter energy that hibernation,

the kind of like recharging, rebuilding.

15

:

But then there's this like human side

where you have this like stagnant

16

:

like push push energy where you

know, we're gonna comb through how.

17

:

Corporate life.

18

:

Business life isn't intuitively

built to support the seasons and

19

:

help you transition, at least

aligning your energy with it.

20

:

So I'm excited.

21

:

Let's dive in.

22

:

jess_1_12-22-2023_130755: Yes, and

I'm really excited about this too.

23

:

And I think one thing that just

came up with me with the different

24

:

seasons is thinking about,

according to Ayurveda, we're all

25

:

made up of different constitutions.

26

:

So different seasons are gonna

affect different people differently,

27

:

but what we're giving here is like

an overall kind of vibe of it.

28

:

But you may find, like for

me, an example of like winter

29

:

because I have this high energy.

30

:

I can't finish a single thought,

like crazy wind energy in me.

31

:

I find that winter like helps bring

it down a notch and I almost feel

32

:

like it giving me this like rinse of

calm and like groundedness to where I

33

:

can actually get things done a little

bit, not get things done in like a.

34

:

Fiery pit away, but like it's

definitely a most grounding way.

35

:

So this week I have been wrapping up

a bunch of little projects that have

36

:

started throughout the year, and they're

finally like, I'm closing all the loops

37

:

on them, but I feel like it's like

this grounded, winter hibernation and

38

:

that's how it's affecting, like that's

allowing me to get it done for me.

39

:

I definitely find myself like

gonna sleep earlier in the winter.

40

:

I know If that's the case for you,

41

:

Track 1: My inso has been so bad in this

like winter period 'cause it gets so dark

42

:

so early for I'm assuming for everybody,

but it really is that thing where my.

43

:

Cycle my routine, like everything has

just been majorly impacted since daylight

44

:

savings time, where even though my

body wants to shut down around eight

45

:

o'clock, 'cause that's two hours after

sundown, my brain is resisting it.

46

:

So it's a forced measure to like really

make sure that I am allowing this

47

:

time for recharge in this re it's like

I have to be very intentional about

48

:

it or else I will get sucked into

Insomnia Land and be walking around my

49

:

house at two o'clock in the morning.

50

:

'cause I'm just like go.

51

:

But yeah.

52

:

jess_1_12-22-2023_130755: Yeah.

53

:

It's crazy for me because I know

that and I just lean into it now,

54

:

but when it's something weird happens

for daylight savings time, movie

55

:

where I don't reset, I will just wake

up at four o'clock in the morning.

56

:

So like I've been up this morning

since four o'clock in the morning.

57

:

I went to the gym, I sit down and

like that six to 10 is like Kapa time

58

:

in Ayurveda, which is like a more

grounding time so I can find myself

59

:

if I can start working that time.

60

:

It's like a.

61

:

Just productive and like

getting things done.

62

:

But I go to sleep at seven

30, like it's It's crazy.

63

:

Like I, I'm in bed and I

just like vibe with it.

64

:

Like my family makes fun of me,

but I'm just like, this is what

65

:

my body wants to do, obviously.

66

:

So this is what we're doing.

67

:

Track 1: Wow.

68

:

Oh my gosh.

69

:

I would love to just lay in

bed and actually fall asleep.

70

:

That's I'm like 11 30,

11 45 type gal over here,

71

:

jess_1_12-22-2023_130755: That's funny.

72

:

That's funny.

73

:

So just getting back to winter and

like what the vibe is for winter.

74

:

Really if you think about nature.

75

:

A lot of animals go into hibernation.

76

:

I don't know if the trees go into

hibernation, but they lose all

77

:

their leaves and they're just

like not producing anything new.

78

:

So it's just this big kind of vibe

of like rest and renewal to get ready

79

:

for the new year, but not actually

doing anything yet, which is counter,

80

:

intuitive or whatever counter.

81

:

To what we're hearing probably in

the majority of the online space

82

:

right now is like hit the ground

running, get your plans in place.

83

:

Track 1: I think realistically though,

most people don't like, I think that's a

84

:

big marketing message to hit January one.

85

:

You're going.

86

:

But like in the spaces that I am

in and with the business owners

87

:

that I talk to, it's not really up

until february, March that like the

88

:

actual plans and like the things

that we're building tend to take off.

89

:

There's still a lot of people who.

90

:

Take that big transition from

December to January and they're very

91

:

intentional about not overburdening

themselves, come January 2nd.

92

:

And I think that is one of those

like online, maybe not even online,

93

:

but 'cause it's all in the diet

world too, and the workout world,

94

:

it's like new me, new year, new me.

95

:

And I think.

96

:

It's not real, right?

97

:

Because like we sent, we

98

:

tend to see one to two months

of like actually needing

99

:

to come back to life as the trend.

100

:

jess_1_12-22-2023_130755: Yeah,

and I've been re rejecting the

101

:

whole, like you wait till the new

year to set intentions and stuff.

102

:

Like I just restarted my workout routine

this week and my boyfriend's like, why

103

:

don't you just wait till the new year?

104

:

And I'm like, because I'm motivated

to start it now and if I wait for

105

:

some ar arbitrary date to start

it, I might not have that momentum.

106

:

So I think it's all about for me

just checking in and like, how

107

:

are you feeling in your body?

108

:

And what do you would serve you the best?

109

:

Track 1: You're such an anomaly.

110

:

You're like, I'm gonna start a new

meal plan on a Wednesday, rather on

111

:

a Monday when normal people start

112

:

jess_1_12-22-2023_130755:

I have to go with momentum.

113

:

Close off my calendar

from all client work.

114

:

I was thinking about this the other

day too, about how everyone talks about

115

:

how they're like gonna rot next week

and I'm like, we're not rotting guys.

116

:

We're restoring, we're renewing.

117

:

This is still productive.

118

:

Rest, I think what I will

be doing next week as well.

119

:

Track 1: Yeah, I think there's

a level of restoration.

120

:

That's my intention for next week.

121

:

Like I really want to tidy up.

122

:

My energy pockets, where my

mind focuses, where my body

123

:

focuses, and all of those things.

124

:

And like really shake off the cobwebs

of things that maybe I've neglected as

125

:

we've finished off like the busy season

of November and October and all of that.

126

:

So I really am like trying to be so

intentional and not rot because that

127

:

does sound so lovely to just lay on

the couch, be a little potato and not.

128

:

Do anything, but I know that like in

order to build towards a productive start

129

:

of the new year, I want to make sure

that like I'm releasing what is, like

130

:

what I'm holding right now from 2023.

131

:

jess_1_12-22-2023_130755: Yeah.

132

:

One of the big things that I do like

New Year's, that's like a tradition

133

:

is like that week in between,

I do a lot of like cleaning and

134

:

organizing, but it's almost with the

intention of setting myself up for.

135

:

Like success, like putting my

journal back by my bed, like

136

:

getting all that stuff out.

137

:

I went through like my mail and all

my paperwork to clear out all of that

138

:

space as well, where it's not doing

like a lot of like external work, but

139

:

it's more like going within to see what

I can do to set myself up and release

140

:

those things that I don't need anymore.

141

:

Track 1: I think that there's a

conversation that needs to be, it's like

142

:

a duality of ex of existence right now.

143

:

Like you're supporting

future you for:

144

:

You by also like existing as 2023.

145

:

Me.

146

:

And so it's like you're really and

I think this is how a lot of these

147

:

things that you are doing, like the

cleaning up of your service guide or

148

:

the finishing of your service guide,

the sales pages and all that stuff

149

:

is all supportive of future Jess.

150

:

And right now Jess is taking

like the action to do it.

151

:

It all aligns with what we're talking

about with this like restoration and

152

:

like planning and . We'll get more into

proactive planning in the next episode,

153

:

but I really think that, like right

now, it's like there's this, we have to

154

:

live as two people and like the person

that we want January 1st to exist has

155

:

to be supported right now as well.

156

:

jess_1_12-22-2023_130755: It's almost,

it just came to me like this, like vision

157

:

of everything that I'm doing right now

is supporting my internal foundations,

158

:

and that's really what this next two

weeks is about for me as my client

159

:

work is slowing down where I'm not like

outwardly promoting anything, but I'm

160

:

like going back and like cleaning up

that homepage, finally getting those

161

:

lead magnets that Rachel talked about

out there where it's feel like I can see

162

:

the light and I'm like, oh my gosh, I am.

163

:

Foundation to be able to expand

because I'm working to put all.

164

:

Track 1: Totally.

165

:

jess_1_12-22-2023_130755: Okay.

166

:

And one thing that I think we'll

do a lot of or that, anytime

167

:

we take a pause it allows us to

do is reflect and like journal.

168

:

And I know me and you are gonna

start our artist way journal

169

:

at the beginning of week here.

170

:

But I thought it would be helpful

if we shared like some of.

171

:

Journaling prompts or like questions

that we're asking ourselves as we

172

:

reflect on this past year and move.

173

:

Track 1: Yeah.

174

:

Oh gosh.

175

:

Definitely the energy

that I want in the future.

176

:

So I am, I'm looking back at.

177

:

What didn't serve me this year, what

really rattled me and didn't feel

178

:

aligned, and I'm existing in this

space where I wanna make sure that

179

:

the energy that I'm supportive of in

the future isn't gonna be destroyed.

180

:

And so it's like a lot of self-awareness

on the things that didn't feel aligned.

181

:

I think that's like the biggest area

that I wanna focus on in the new year.

182

:

jess_1_12-22-2023_130755: Yes.

183

:

Yes.

184

:

I think that's important, but I also

think it's important, and I was talking

185

:

with a client about this week, is that

as entrepreneurs, I think we all share

186

:

our common toxic trait of always seeing

the opportunity and the struggle first.

187

:

And being able to reflect back first

and celebrate the accomplishments

188

:

and how far you've come

189

:

Track 1: Oh wow.

190

:

jess_1_12-22-2023_130755: I

think a skill and a habit that

191

:

we have to consciously build.

192

:

So I'd say as you look back, Rachel,

I would encourage you, because I know

193

:

you have hit some major goals this

year and taking some major strides is a

194

:

moment to celebrate your yourself First.

195

:

Always start with gratitude and

that does not come natural because

196

:

that's just not how I think our

brains operate as entrepreneurs.

197

:

But taking the moment to and reflect

about what brought you joy, what are you

198

:

proud of yourself for all of those things.

199

:

First.

200

:

Start there,

201

:

Track 1: What a real like

realization where it as a business

202

:

owner and maybe as just like.

203

:

High achievers, perfectionist type people

like I exist by filling the gaps first.

204

:

And if I perceive something as an

opportunity, like the way that you phrased

205

:

it, that's what I'm gonna attack first.

206

:

But you're so right,

start with that gratitude.

207

:

Oh my gosh.

208

:

Real life moment of realization.

209

:

. I would've not even thought about that.

210

:

I would've been like, no,

let's just work on this stuff.

211

:

jess_1_12-22-2023_130755:

No, it's my toxic trait too.

212

:

But I think one of my clients was

actually talking about how like she's

213

:

been struggling to get like testimonials

from her clients and she was talking to.

214

:

Her or her intuitive coach that she

talks to, and she was like are you

215

:

allowing your space for celebration?

216

:

She's I know I'm supporting

my clients, but like I'm not

217

:

getting any good testimonials.

218

:

And she's what is your energy

around celebrating yourself?

219

:

So

220

:

it's like, how can you

consciously shift that?

221

:

And I was like, you know what?

222

:

Don't feel bad about that because think

every entrepreneur I know always looks

223

:

at the opportunity first, and that's what

makes us great and that's what makes us

224

:

be, I think, be able to our businesses

and keep hustling and like that.

225

:

But it's important to go

back and reflect on gratitude

226

:

first.

227

:

Yes.

228

:

But I do agree there's some other

things, so some other questions

229

:

that I've been asking about.

230

:

Is that, I know my time is like almost

pretty much max, so what are the things

231

:

that I could automate or delegate?

232

:

I have not dipped my toe

into outsourcing yet.

233

:

, so I'm thinking about,

how can I get my time?

234

:

Saw someone share this one the other day

and it was like, if you had to double your

235

:

revenue in six months by focusing on one

marketing channel, like which would it be?

236

:

I love these questions

that like, help you focus.

237

:

'cause I am such an ideas person.

238

:

And one of the books that I definitely

recommend, and I always go back and

239

:

reread around this time, around that same

vein, is the one thing, and basically

240

:

the premise of the book is what's the

one thing that by doing so would make

241

:

everything else easier, unnecessary.

242

:

And that's your focusing question

on like how you figure out what

243

:

your priorities are for that day.

244

:

So those are just some questions that

I'll be mulling over the next week or so.

245

:

Track 1: That's like the kryptonite

to the pressure of trying to do

246

:

all of the things is by literally

saying, you only have this much time.

247

:

Do what are you doing with it?

248

:

And you're not gonna be

like I'm gonna do this.

249

:

I'm gonna start an SEO

strategy and I'm gonna do no.

250

:

We gotta get focused here.

251

:

So I love that question.

252

:

I think those three questions just

to like recap on them, it's like what

253

:

aspects of your business bring you joy?

254

:

Start with gratitude, start in that space.

255

:

What's something that you can like,

clean up a little bit to give yourself

256

:

more time to delegate, a little bit more

automate or outsource in the new year.

257

:

And then.

258

:

That really focused question of if

you only had six months to double

259

:

your revenue, what would you do?

260

:

I think those are beautiful points of

reflection that can really open up a lot

261

:

of avenues if you're a journaler like us.

262

:

jess_1_12-22-2023_130755: All right.

263

:

We wanted just to hop on and record this

short little episode because we know

264

:

your guys will be rotting or restoring

or whatever you're doing next week.

265

:

You're probably gonna have a

little extra time to listen.

266

:

And we hope that this gave you some

points to think about and get inspired

267

:

to kick Booty next year as well.

268

:

Track 1: Yes, and happy solstice.
