Hey, I’m Nathan, and this is Day 19 of 30 Days Watching Jesus. Forgiveness is in short supply these days—yet it is an essential reality of relational wellness in a world of broken people. You and I are the daily beneficiaries of God’s forgiveness. If we were not, we’d quickly succumb to the heart-crushing weight of our own guilt.
Yet, how stingy we are when it comes to forgiving others—of far smaller offenses than we ourselves have committed. In the end, however, the comparative size of one offense against another, is irrelevant to the teaching of Jesus—forgiveness needs to be our default way of relating to others. Wide, free, liberal forgiveness. Holding within no bitterness or revenge—but simply releasing others—freely. Such a life unburdened both by personal guilt—and by the bitterness of refusing to forgive—is a life full of joy and delight.
