Speaker:

Welcome to the mesmerizing marketing podcast, where we take a deep dive

Speaker:

into the latest marketing trends, tools, and tips, and provide you with

Speaker:

the top resources you need to thrive and make your marketing mesmerized.

Speaker:

And now here's your host dimple.

Speaker:

Dang.

Speaker:

Hey, everyone it's dimple.

Speaker:

And today I want to talk to you guys about some of the amazing features

Speaker:

that Instagram has launched recently.

Speaker:

And some new features that are going to be coming up in 2022, but these

Speaker:

are all things that you should be incorporating into your Instagram

Speaker:

marketing strategy for 2022.

Speaker:

And if you're not using Instagram yet, or you're not sure how to use it, go

Speaker:

check out some of my previous episodes on Instagram, where I go through

Speaker:

detailed strategies on using Instagram.

Speaker:

So what I will do.

Speaker:

I will link them in the show notes where you guys, so make sure you

Speaker:

also download all of those episodes.

Speaker:

They're absolutely free and happy listening.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

So the one feature that I have to say, I have been super excited about.

Speaker:

It's the one that they launched in October of 2021.

Speaker:

It has to do with links.

Speaker:

So previously I'm sure most of you are aware that with Instagram, you had to have

Speaker:

10,000 followers, 10,000 followers, you guys, in order to be able to put a link in

Speaker:

your IgG stories and in October, They had a new feature update and a new release.

Speaker:

They said that the Instagram stories link sticker is going to

Speaker:

be available to all the users.

Speaker:

And this was really a game changer, especially for small businesses

Speaker:

because now they can take.

Speaker:

A link and link it to a specific product page.

Speaker:

And even for e-commerce right.

Speaker:

Think about them selling a particular jacket or particular watch.

Speaker:

Like now they can link directly to that product.

Speaker:

So it's really a game changer.

Speaker:

Here's the thing, though.

Speaker:

I'm not seeing a lot of you guys use this feature and I have the

Speaker:

feeling that you don't know that it exists, so you need to be listening

Speaker:

to my podcast more LOL, so that.

Speaker:

No about all of these features and use them.

Speaker:

So, I mean, a great way to use the link stickers features obviously as

Speaker:

well, link people to your website.

Speaker:

If you have a podcast, you can take your podcast, episodes and specific

Speaker:

episodes and you can put a link in the stories to link people exactly

Speaker:

to that specific episode so they can listen to it and they can download it.

Speaker:

So it's a great way to increase your downloads as well for your podcast.

Speaker:

And it's also a great way to promote anything.

Speaker:

You know, if you're doing a fundraiser, you can promote a link to that.

Speaker:

If you are trying to get people to sign up for a free masterclass,

Speaker:

so you can put in a link to that.

Speaker:

So there's just so many features.

Speaker:

So definitely go check it out.

Speaker:

Wondering, how do I find this feature when you go to your

Speaker:

store, To, to create a new story.

Speaker:

You're going to see a smiley face.

Speaker:

That's got like a paper turned up in the corner.

Speaker:

And when you tap that, you're going to see all the different stickers and features.

Speaker:

And you're going to see one that says link.

Speaker:

That's got like the link icon, and then you can basically copy and paste a URL

Speaker:

and you can add a link to your store.

Speaker:

Easiest that.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

So the, so I want to talk to you guys about the collapse feature, and I'm

Speaker:

really excited about this one, but I don't want you guys to get confused.

Speaker:

So the collab feature is not.

Speaker:

Meant for collaborations that you do with brands, that's going to be different.

Speaker:

We'll talk about that a little later.

Speaker:

If you have like a business partner, right.

Speaker:

That you're doing a post with, or maybe you had someone that was

Speaker:

a guest on your podcast, you can tag that person as a collaborator.

Speaker:

And it's going to ask you, do you want to tag someone as a collaborator?

Speaker:

You're going to tap on that and click.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

And you're going to find their handle and you're going to

Speaker:

invite them as a collaborator.

Speaker:

And then what will happen in.

Speaker:

They're going to get an alert and they do have to accept the alert and

Speaker:

sometimes they can't find the alert.

Speaker:

So what you can do is you can tell them to go to the post that is showing

Speaker:

on your Instagram page, on your feed.

Speaker:

And then when they look at that, they're going to see a button that says accept

Speaker:

and they can accept it that way as well.

Speaker:

And the advantage of doing this is that if you're creating a.

Speaker:

Instead of just getting the traffic that you would normally

Speaker:

get from your own Instagram page.

Speaker:

Now you can get traffic from their page as well.

Speaker:

And from their audience.

Speaker:

Now keep in mind, there's going to be only one set of

Speaker:

statistics, but the cool thing is.

Speaker:

That you're getting to also reach their audience.

Speaker:

And this is something that you guys need to start taking advantage of is

Speaker:

this collaboration, feature because it is amazing if you guys want to

Speaker:

see some examples of what it looks like, you can go to my Instagram page.

Speaker:

It is linked in the show notes and you will see that I interviewed.

Speaker:

The trademark attorney, that's our handle for my podcast.

Speaker:

And then we did a collaboration and you can see that it's showing

Speaker:

up on her page and my page.

Speaker:

And it says it's a collaboration between the trademark attorney and she

Speaker:

wore stilettos and there might be some other ones I also did collapse with.

Speaker:

So you guys can check that out.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

So another exciting feature that came out recently is something called.

Speaker:

An add your sticker.

Speaker:

And what it does is it allows creators to post a story and they can add

Speaker:

a sticker that essentially invites other people to post on their story.

Speaker:

And it includes you in the continuation of the initial story.

Speaker:

So this way users can post images into their friend's stories.

Speaker:

And this is really cool.

Speaker:

So you can say, Hey, what's my favorite outfit of the day.

Speaker:

And you show your outfit and then the sticker is going to say, add yours.

Speaker:

It's going to have a photo icon, add yours so people can add their right.

Speaker:

And there's many different ways you can utilize this.

Speaker:

You can say.

Speaker:

You know, here's my favorite quote, what's your favorite quote, right?

Speaker:

And then they can add their favorite quote or they can add their

Speaker:

favorite photo of, 2021, right.

Speaker:

As we go into 2022.

Speaker:

So there's many different ways that you guys can use this, but it's a lot of fun

Speaker:

and I've seen a lot of people.

Speaker:

Using this for creating like different like photo contest and

Speaker:

giveaways and things like that.

Speaker:

So you can even say, here's a photo of my pet, you know, post

Speaker:

a photo of your pet, right.

Speaker:

Or post a photo of your pet in a cute, holiday outfit.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

So, so you can say All right.

Speaker:

With Instagram, carousels and carousel posts are really popular.

Speaker:

We don't know what they are.

Speaker:

Basically.

Speaker:

A carousel post is a post that shows up on your feed that has more than one image.

Speaker:

And sometimes you can have a little.

Speaker:

Icon swipe.

Speaker:

So people know they need to keep swiping.

Speaker:

And usually people upload about five different images and the images can tell

Speaker:

a story or they can have different tips.

Speaker:

So you can have a post about five social media tools that

Speaker:

you should be using in 2022.

Speaker:

And you can have one slide that's opposed, and then they scroll.

Speaker:

It goes to the second one.

Speaker:

And carousel posts are really great for engagement.

Speaker:

They're also really great for reach and discoverability.

Speaker:

So I encourage posting at least one to two carousel posts a week.

Speaker:

So the new thing is that now.

Speaker:

If you want to delete one or two photos that you uploaded for the

Speaker:

post, but not the entire post.

Speaker:

It allows you to go back and you can edit and you can click on

Speaker:

the top right-hand corner.

Speaker:

There's a three dots icon and he can choose edit.

Speaker:

They can scroll through the photos and find which ones you want to delete.

Speaker:

And this way you don't have to redo the whole thing over.

Speaker:

So that's cool.

Speaker:

It just makes it a lot easier.

Speaker:

And then the cool thing is if you deleted it by ax, You also have 30 days to restore

Speaker:

the deleted photo by going to settings and then account and recently deleted.

Speaker:

So there's a little hack for you right there.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

So the other thing that is, cool as well is something called badges for live video.

Speaker:

So also in November, Instagram rolled out badges for all eligible and craters

Speaker:

in the U S and you guys can, Google what the details are on illegibility.

Speaker:

But basically badges are a way for content creators to create money from

Speaker:

their followers and how it works is if you are doing a live stream on Instagram,

Speaker:

when viewers are listening to your live stream, they can click an icon that

Speaker:

says, buy a badge to support the creator.

Speaker:

And the cool thing is when you do buy a badge to support the creator, your

Speaker:

username is going to have a heart displayed next to it, to indicate

Speaker:

that you purchased a badge and you can purchase badges in either 99 cents, a

Speaker:

dollar 99 and $4 and 99 cents increments.

Speaker:

So definitely try out that feature to support some of your craters, especially

Speaker:

if you enjoy their content, being a content creator does not come easy.

Speaker:

It does take a lot of planning.

Speaker:

It does take a lot of time.

Speaker:

It even takes a lot of research and effort.

Speaker:

And I think that, content creators provide so much value and they

Speaker:

give so much content away for free.

Speaker:

It just a nice way to support them, even if it's like, Hey, here's, you

Speaker:

know, $5 go buy yourself a cup of.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

So now let's talk about how you are going to turn on the badges

Speaker:

feature if you are eligible.

Speaker:

So if you're eligible for badges, you're going to go to your professional

Speaker:

dashboard in the Instagram app, and you're going to see a button

Speaker:

that's going to say set up badges.

Speaker:

So if you are not eligible yet, what's going to happen is you can tap something

Speaker:

called, apply for monetization, and then you're going to have to wait for so.

Speaker:

Some time to see what the status update is going to be in that same dashboard.

Speaker:

So you can go back to that same dashboard to see if they have approved

Speaker:

you for it or not, or what happens.

Speaker:

And then once you have access to badges, you can turn it on right before

Speaker:

you start a live stream by tapping on the left-hand option called badges.

Speaker:

And you can just activate.

Speaker:

And you're probably also wondering, well, if you are utilizing

Speaker:

badges, how do you get paid from badges and how does that work?

Speaker:

So what happens is once you have earned at least a hundred dollars,

Speaker:

You do have to have that one as a minimum, then you can get paid and you

Speaker:

can, transfer the funds to your bank.

Speaker:

And that can take one to seven business days to arrive.

Speaker:

Also.

Speaker:

You do need to know that there is a transaction fee when you buy a badge.

Speaker:

So Google and apple are going to deduct 30% of all in app purchases as.

Speaker:

So Instagram's not really getting any portion of the fees, but

Speaker:

basically Google and apple.

Speaker:

And if you guys are parents and you want to have some parental controls

Speaker:

for the kids that are spending too much time on Instagram, there is

Speaker:

a new parental controls feature.

Speaker:

And what it allows you to do is a couple of different things.

Speaker:

So one is take a break.

Speaker:

So this option is going to remind users who have been scrolling for a long time

Speaker:

to take a break, reset, go do something.

Speaker:

And that's kind of nice because sometimes your teenagers might be

Speaker:

spending hours and hours on Instagram and they should be doing their homework.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

So then the other thing is your activity.

Speaker:

So it's a dedicated place that allows you to manage everything on Instagram

Speaker:

So what this feature does is it has some settings for parents where you

Speaker:

can add time limits for using Instagram and then it also has the option to

Speaker:

send the notifications to parents.

Speaker:

So this allows you to add time limits for your teenagers to use Instagram.

Speaker:

And this is a good.

Speaker:

So, this is also something that's interesting.

Speaker:

It is called favorites.

Speaker:

So Instagram has been testing out favorites and a

Speaker:

chronological order of posts.

Speaker:

So this year for Instagram, you know, they've had a lot of, challenges when it

Speaker:

comes to public pressure, then people want them to be more transparent and they also

Speaker:

want them to provide more options that are allowing them to control the presence

Speaker:

on the platform as far as what they see.

Speaker:

So what Instagram has been doing is they've been, Taking action by

Speaker:

announcing that they're experimenting with a new feature called favorites.

Speaker:

And it is a way that allows users to control.

Speaker:

Who's posted.

Speaker:

They want to see higher up.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

So let's go back to talk about the link stickers for a little bit.

Speaker:

So we know that the link stickers came out and those are huge.

Speaker:

Now you can also customize your link sticker so you can

Speaker:

have a specific call to action.

Speaker:

So you can say.

Speaker:

Sign up to get 10% off our shop, our new year's sale, our shopper black Friday.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

So now let's talk about video.

Speaker:

Video is really important as well.

Speaker:

So video is something you definitely need to be using a lot of on Instagram,

Speaker:

especially when it comes to real.

Speaker:

Also, you should be utilizing long form video content in

Speaker:

the form of I G T V videos.

Speaker:

And now like your, I G T V videos, you can have them be up to 60 minutes long.

Speaker:

So that's great because in the past you were not able to have them that.

Speaker:

And I'm not sure if you guys are aware, but you can also create

Speaker:

sponsored reels now, which are going to appear in between the organic reels.

Speaker:

So that can be a great way to draw more attention to your business

Speaker:

you know, reels do well anyway.

Speaker:

And if you pay for them to get greater reach, to be expanded to a

Speaker:

specific demographic or audience that you want to target, I think that's

Speaker:

just going to be a game changer.

Speaker:

So definitely check out that.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

So here's something else that you want to look out for?

Speaker:

In 2022, when it comes to Instagram is something called Instagram drops

Speaker:

and basically Instagram drops lets brands highlight new product lines and

Speaker:

increase awareness and generate interest before something is even available for.

Speaker:

so Instagram drops, you can have your own tab and Instagram shopping for.

Speaker:

So it does stand out and it's a great way for fashion designers and e-commerce

Speaker:

brands to say, Hey, they're going to be dropping a particular line of new

Speaker:

shoes or maybe sportswear, and then.

Speaker:

What people can do is there will see a button that says,

Speaker:

remind me of this launch.

Speaker:

That's going to be launching on January 15th at 10:00 AM.

Speaker:

And you would hit the remind me button, and then it's going

Speaker:

to remind you of that launch.

Speaker:

So, that's a pretty cool feature.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

Let's also talk about Instagram's affiliate program.

Speaker:

So they're not quite where YouTube is.

Speaker:

And Tik TOK is when it comes to affiliate.

Speaker:

But I will say that Instagram has been testing an affiliate program.

Speaker:

That's going to allow influencers.

Speaker:

To build an Instagram shop, featuring their preferred products.

Speaker:

That's going to be like an affiliate shop that creators would create, and then

Speaker:

they can earn commissions for purchases if people buy based on their link.

Speaker:

So for example, if you are a live streamer and you have different cameras, you want

Speaker:

to recommend you have different equipment, this would be great for you because you

Speaker:

can create like your own affiliate shop on Instagram, and then you can direct

Speaker:

people to that even in your IgE stories and say, oh, here's a link to some of

Speaker:

my favorite products for live streaming.

Speaker:

These are the cameras that I use.

Speaker:

These are the ring lights that I use, and it's a great way to make extra money

Speaker:

because affiliate marketing is amazing.

Speaker:

And I think when you think about it, if you're an expert in something,

Speaker:

people are always going to come to you.

Speaker:

They're always going to ask.

Speaker:

What is it that you would recommend?

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

They see you as the expert.

Speaker:

So every time you recommend something to people, you might as well get paid for it.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

So keep that in mind.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

So the other thing I'm going to talk about is brand partnerships for creators.

Speaker:

So a lot of content creators are utilizing Instagram as a

Speaker:

platform for influencer marketing.

Speaker:

And they're working with different brands that are paying them either

Speaker:

in product or either monetary.

Speaker:

To basically promote their brand.

Speaker:

And if you are promoting content, that is a collaboration between a specific brand.

Speaker:

There is a option under branded content for brand partners.

Speaker:

So you can add specific brand partners and go through that

Speaker:

approval process ahead of time.

Speaker:

So if you know that this is a brand that you're going to be

Speaker:

working with, like for the entire year of 2022, On an ongoing basis.

Speaker:

You want to make sure that you go ahead and just have those brand partners

Speaker:

in their approved, ready to go.

Speaker:

Because this way, when you do need to post something, you don't

Speaker:

have to wait to get that approval.

Speaker:

Everything is going to be ready to rock it.

Speaker:

All right, you guys, I hope you enjoyed this episode.
