Shownotes
We walk currents of modern America history, sonified.
Sonification is the process of taking data and information and translating it into sound.
For today’s experiment I’ve gathered a data set from 1880 to present that explores trends and concepts that I think help reveal how we’ve arrived at our contemporary moment. I’ve graphed temperature data, miltary spending, income inequality, and fossil fuel usage, and pushed that through software to create a score that suggests the interaction of these forces over time. Into that soundbed, I’ve layered a selection of 100+ years of recorded broadcast media drawn from the internet archive, the national archive, and public and government radio sources.
