Hello, and welcome to another episode of the Arise Women of God podcast.
I'm your host, Tamara K. Anderson, and today we're anchoring ourselves in the raw truth of God's word to answer this important foundational question. Is spiritual warfare biblical? And today, we're breaking down three of my favorite biblical pillars about spiritual warfare.
Number one, the tactical blueprint we find in Ephesians chapter six, where we get the exact anatomy of the armor of God, not only exposing the precise targets the adversary shoots for, but also what God has given you to protect them. Number two, the Chariots of Fire protocol. This is one of my favorite Bible stories.
Proves that what you can actually see is only part of your defensive reality. And number three, the master's combat hacks.
I'm going to share with you two direct battle strategies that the Savior himself used and taught us that we can use as well. All right, let's kick it off by diving straight into Ephesians chapter 6.
I vividly remember kneeling on my bedroom floor many years ago, feeling sick to my heart and my stomach over a new tactic the adversary was using in my home and in my family. And I was pouring out my heart to God to help me and to teach me what I could do.
One of the solutions came when I opened my Scriptures to Ephesians chapter 6. Listen to these powerful verses in 10 through 12. Finally, my brethren, I'm going to add my sisters in there.
Be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. I love that word, stand for.
We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Not only does Paul point out who our enemy is, but he teaches us how we can stand against the wiles of the devil by being strong in the Lord.
As I looked at that text, I realized my children, my husband, are not the enemy. We are wrestling against an invisible, calculated Infrastructure of darkness. But God doesn't leave us exposed.
In verses 13 through 18, he hands us interactive armor and each piece teaches us exactly what areas on us that the adversary is trying to breach and how God teaches us to protect it and arm it. Let's look at each of these. First, having our loins girt with truth.
How important it is to know that we are children of God and arm ourselves with that truth. I am a daughter of God, I am a son of God, and I have worth and value in who I divinely am. Those are powerful truths to combat the adversary with.
Next, the breastplate of righteousness. The enemy attacks your heart with crushing guilt and shame.
But God teaches us that we can protect it with that breastplate of living in righteousness, which means living in Christ. That means repenting and forgiving and bringing Jesus along for the journey as a shield of righteousness on our bodies.
Next, it talks about our feet being shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. It's like putting on these armored shoes every day. And when there's sudden yelling matches in your hallway, you can walk a path of peace.
You can be a peace bringer because you're walking with Jesus Christ. Next is the shield of faith. And what I love about a shield is you can use it not only to defend you, but to defend those you love.
And your faith in Jesus Christ can protect them as well as you teaching others your testimony of how Jesus has helped and saved you from these faith fiery darts of the adversary that it describes in this verse. Next, we have the helmet of salvation.
The enemy uses a lot of negative thoughts to try to get us to downward spiral into thinking I'm not enough to doubt our standing with God, to feel worthless, feel like nobody cares.
But the helmet of salvation through Jesus can protect your mind, your thoughts with the certainty that Jesus loves you and he stands by you and that you are enough and can be forgiven through him and he will always, always love you. Finally, he talks about the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. I love that the sword of the Spirit is our offensive weapon.
The Spirit is God's power and he also teaches us how to wield it. So, my friends, using the words of the scriptures, God's living word is a powerful offensive weapon.
Every piece of armor is designed to keep you standing in the Lord and in the power of his might. But I know what it feels like when you look around your home and the armor feels heavy and you feel completely outnumbered by darkness or stress.
Let's move on. To the chariots of fire protocol. This is one of my favorite stories in the Old Testament, and It's found in 2 Kings, chapter 6.
The Syrian army had completely surrounded the city of Dothan by night. And Elisha's young servant woke up, saw the massive host surrounding the city, and completely panicked, saying, alas, my lord, how shall we do?
He saw only the physical threat. Look at Elisha's calm, unbothered Response in verse 16. Fear not, for they be with us are more than they that be with them.
And Elisha prayed a prayer that every mother needs to pray over her children. Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw.
And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha and. And Elisha went then. And he commanded this army of angels to attack and protect him and the city. And they did so.
My friends, the key here is first knowing that you have angels at your disposal and that you can invite them to be with you and to protect you and your family every single day. And that sure is a nice thing for me to know as a mom, that I can send angel warriors out with my children as they go off into the world.
All right, finally, let's tackle Jesus Christ's combat hacks.
If you want ultimate confirmation that spiritual warfare is real, you have no farther to look than Matthew chapter 4, where Jesus Christ went into the wilderness and he fasted and prayed for 40 days. And of course, when he was physically weak and exhausted, the adversary came tempting.
This is where Jesus drew on that sword of the spirit, because every temptation Satan threw at him, Jesus responded. It is written. It is written. It is written. And he quoted a verse of Scripture.
Jesus Christ weaponized the word of God as an active shield until he commanded, get thee hence, Satan. And the devil left him and angels came and ministered to him.
So follow this hack that Jesus taught by memorizing a favorite verse of scripture to say when you're being attacked. I remember feeling a lot of anxiety as I was driving one day, trying to tackle something that was very, very stressful to me and the scripture.
I repeated the entire drive there to combat the stress of the attack was, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, from Philippians 4:13. And it helped me get through that stressful day and overwhelming anxiety for hack number two from Jesus Christ.
We learn in Matthew chapter 17 that sometimes a battle requires a tiered defense. Here, a desperate father brought his severely tormented son to the disciples. But they were unable to cast out the dark spirit.
When Jesus arrived, he rebuked the enemy and heals the boy instantly. When the disciples pulled him aside later and asked why they couldn't cast it out, he taught them a vital rule of engagement against the adversary.
Howbeit this kind goeth not out, but by prayer and fasting.
Jesus was teaching that some deep strongholds of the enemy, generational trauma, heavy addictions, deep seated anxiety, will not bend to a simple casual prayer.
Winning requires us to upscale our spiritual authority, call on the powers of heaven and combine prayer, maybe inviting family to even pray with fasting and to break the enemy's hold on you or your household.
You can even ask for prayers among your congregation or among your sister warrior friends that God will guide you to the next right step to help you and your family overcome that current heavy battle. So my friends, spiritual warfare is not a modern invention, it is not a figment of your imagination, and it is explicitly, deeply biblical.
The battle you're fighting over your kitchen counter and your children's hearts is the exact battle that was fought anciently by prophets and apostles and the Savior himself. You are the guardian of your home and God has already provided the armor, the angels and the absolute authority to win.
