Host:

Grab a pen, because this is a name that you're going to

Host:

hear often in the next few years. His name is Peter Voogd,

Host:

and he's a podcaster. He's the CEO of GameChangersmovement.com

Host:

he first started in business at 15 years old. By age 22 he had

Host:

the classic entrepreneur story just broke and stressed, but

Host:

then in a year, a year later, he made a six figure income, and

Host:

within three and a half years after that, he had made a

Host:

combined total income of over $1 million. He now talks about

Host:

that formula in Six Months to Six Figures. Peter, thanks for

Host:

being here.

Peter Voogd:

Thank you for having me. And I'm excited to

Peter Voogd:

add as much value as I possibly can.

Host:

So I want to kind of zero in on the mental side of this,

Host:

like breaking past that six figure mark. Do you agree that

Host:

it's mostly a mental block?

Peter Voogd:

Oh, 100% I think, I mean 70 or 80% of it. I think

Peter Voogd:

it's mental, because I see people that have capacity and

Peter Voogd:

the skills to get the six figures, but they're stuck

Peter Voogd:

making 60 a year because they can't get past them at the

Peter Voogd:

block. So I fully agree. I think there's kind of two parts to it.

Peter Voogd:

I think one is they're living in the gap, which means the gap of

Peter Voogd:

where they want to go, which is 100k to where they are, maybe

Peter Voogd:

it's 50. They're living in wishing they made 100k thinking

Peter Voogd:

they can't make 100k and they're not appreciating and being

Peter Voogd:

grateful for where they already came and the progress they've

Peter Voogd:

made. So they're taking too much of a jump mentally, where it's

Peter Voogd:

almost like you get overwhelmed, and when you're overwhelmed, you

Peter Voogd:

seek distraction. So it's almost like a self fulfilling prophecy.

Peter Voogd:

If they don't feel like they have that could pass to your

Peter Voogd:

potential to make that 100k they're not going to take the

Peter Voogd:

right action. And when you don't take the right action, you get

Peter Voogd:

small results, and then they reinforce to themselves, yeah, I

Peter Voogd:

knew I couldn't make six figures, and it's an ongoing

Peter Voogd:

thing. Whereas the most successful people make a

Peter Voogd:

definite decision that they're going to make, that they put the

Peter Voogd:

steps in place and make a plan, and they take big action, and

Peter Voogd:

that big action produces bigger results, and then they reinforce

Peter Voogd:

themselves. I knew I could do this. That's the first part. Is

Peter Voogd:

that mental, that they live in that gap without actually having

Peter Voogd:

the right strategies and focusing on consistent progress.

Peter Voogd:

And I think they also compare themselves to others, which is

Peter Voogd:

definitely very miserable to do that. And the second thing is, I

Peter Voogd:

don't think the people that are around or their circle of

Peter Voogd:

influence is congruent to that. Whereas, if they're making 50k a

Peter Voogd:

year, their five best friends, if they add up the income of the

Peter Voogd:

people they hang out with the most, it probably averages

Peter Voogd:

between 50 and 60 a year. So for me, when I was broke, I remember

Peter Voogd:

hanging out with most of the people in my company, and they

Peter Voogd:

were struggling, and the sad thing is, they were okay with

Peter Voogd:

it. So I really I reevaluated and figured out, okay, if

Peter Voogd:

everyone I'm hanging out with this okay with mediocrity and

Peter Voogd:

doesn't have the standards I want to live, I need to shift my

Peter Voogd:

influence. So I think it's a mix between that living in the gap

Peter Voogd:

and then not having the right circle of influence to really

Peter Voogd:

pull them up to the higher standard of six figures. And I

Peter Voogd:

feel like if people are so focused on six figures that they

Peter Voogd:

forget that they need to make 70 and then 91st to make 100 it's

Peter Voogd:

going to get them demotivated. So when I was, for example, we

Peter Voogd:

wanted to go for I remember when I was new to direct sales, I

Peter Voogd:

wanted my office to shoot for a $40,000 week in sales. And in my

Peter Voogd:

mind, I'm like, I don't know how that's gonna happen, but I was

Peter Voogd:

dedicated to it, but I didn't know how it was gonna happen.

Peter Voogd:

And I would think in my head, oh, if I could just do 40 grand

Peter Voogd:

in a week, that is just, I would be on top of the world. Fast

Peter Voogd:

forward to the next summer, when we're doing 130k weeks, and I

Peter Voogd:

was mad if we didn't do 100 it's not that I totally changed

Peter Voogd:

atmospheres and environments and I had new people. No, it's just

Peter Voogd:

my capacity shifted, because I can strictly elevate my results.

Peter Voogd:

So I think that's the key too, is not focusing on doing the

Peter Voogd:

huge numbers right away, but having the action steps and

Peter Voogd:

making sure you have progress checked along the way. And then

Peter Voogd:

on top of that, connecting with people that are already doing

Peter Voogd:

it, so they can cut your learning curve in half and you

Peter Voogd:

can get there with it.

Host:

Yeah, well, if you say this is what I'm going to do,

Host:

then you are forcing yourself to come up with a plan to do it.

Host:

But if you say this is something I'd like to do, but I don't

Host:

think it's really possible. People, you're forcing yourself

Host:

to live in that conundrum of, I don't think I can ever pull it

Host:

off.

Peter Voogd:

Oh, 100% and one of the biggest keys that I talk in

Peter Voogd:

my book is you don't have to come up with the answers. If you

Peter Voogd:

want to make six figure income, or if you want to become a best

Peter Voogd:

calling author, you have to find the best people that have

Peter Voogd:

already done it and be persistent and start connecting

Peter Voogd:

with them so they can give you the answers, what they did well,

Peter Voogd:

what they would do differently, and that way you can literally

Peter Voogd:

cut your learning curve and app. I didn't want to be a best

Peter Voogd:

selling author and number one on Kindle. I found a team that

Peter Voogd:

already did it and gave me the steps they need to go find the

Peter Voogd:

best people near them and mentor them and ask them questions and

Peter Voogd:

take them to lunch, because that's how they're going to get

Peter Voogd:

to the next level. And you're either hanging out with people

Peter Voogd:

that are holding you accountable or letting you off the hook.

Peter Voogd:

There's no in between.

Host:

Yeah, it is wild. So give us some more practical things in

Host:

terms of, you know, let's say I'm listening to this and I'm

Host:

one of those people that going, Yeah, I've been stuck. And, you

Host:

know, could be, could be any plateau. What are? What are some

Host:

of the tangible things that I could start doing to help me go

Host:

from, you know, broke to six figures in six months, or if I'm

Host:

at 200,000 How can I add another six figures in six months? What

Host:

are the practices?

Peter Voogd:

Good question. So yeah, and I pride myself in

Peter Voogd:

being more comprehensive and practical versus, like,

Peter Voogd:

motivational words, like, you just got to do it, right? I know

Peter Voogd:

a lot of folks said better, like, just do it. But the

Peter Voogd:

reality is, you do have to have practical steps and tactical

Peter Voogd:

steps as well. So Well, the first step, really, is you have

Peter Voogd:

to gain absolute clarity on who you are, what your strengths

Peter Voogd:

are, and who you need on your team, and then you have to

Peter Voogd:

reverse engineer. So the most people I've talked to whether

Peter Voogd:

they're making 250 a year, whether they're making 50 a

Peter Voogd:

year, they don't have a clear and precise bullet proof plan on

Peter Voogd:

how to get to the next level. So they haven't clearly defined

Peter Voogd:

exactly how to get there. So one thing I learned from Gary

Peter Voogd:

Vaynerchuk, he always had an ideal outcome within the next

Peter Voogd:

six months to a year. So what I would ask people is, have you

Peter Voogd:

figured out your ideal outcome in six months? What's your

Peter Voogd:

business look like? How involved are you in your business? What's

Peter Voogd:

the ideal culture of your business? Getting Personal. How

Peter Voogd:

much money do you have saved? How much money are you making

Peter Voogd:

monthly? What does your team look like? What feelings are you

Peter Voogd:

experiencing the most in six months? If it was ideal, what

Peter Voogd:

are these? What are the answers to these questions? That's

Peter Voogd:

really the first step is figuring out who you are and

Peter Voogd:

figuring out what your values are, and really what your Big

Peter Voogd:

Five is for the next six months. What are your top three goals

Peter Voogd:

for the next 90 days. And then what I have people do is they

Peter Voogd:

write down their top 20 most compelling reasons. And here's

Peter Voogd:

what I found in training 1000s of people. 80% of those reasons

Peter Voogd:

are BS. They're materialistic. They don't even wake you up in

Peter Voogd:

the morning. What the heck are you writing these reasons down

Peter Voogd:

if you're already sleeping in or pushing the alarm clock? You got

Peter Voogd:

to find out of those 20, find five reasons that drive you,

Peter Voogd:

like your kids, or you're sick of your boss telling you what to

Peter Voogd:

do. If you when you find five internal reasons that drive you,

Peter Voogd:

you'll never lack motivation again. So then you find out your

Peter Voogd:

compelling reasons and then what key behaviors are needed. So

Peter Voogd:

that's the first step, is getting that absolute clarity.

Peter Voogd:

So once you get clear on kind of what you want and what you're

Peter Voogd:

willing to give up to get what you want, and realize you have

Peter Voogd:

to sacrifice. The next step is increasing your confidence

Peter Voogd:

account, because every single person has an account inside

Peter Voogd:

them called their confidence account. Clarity is great, but

Peter Voogd:

without the right confidence, you're not going to accomplish

Peter Voogd:

much. So there's five really crucial components to an

Peter Voogd:

unshakable confidence. And I mean, I can go through them, but

Peter Voogd:

the main ones are you have to watch every choice you make,

Peter Voogd:

because they make you. Every choice you make is either

Peter Voogd:

helping or hurting your confidence. So you have to be

Peter Voogd:

aware what you're doing with that confidence account, because

Peter Voogd:

once you get clear, you're going to be more motivated. But then

Peter Voogd:

you have to take the right actions to continue elevating

Peter Voogd:

your confidence. So your perspective on challenges,

Peter Voogd:

understanding that the bigger the goal, the bigger the

Peter Voogd:

challenges, is a huge part of confidence. Consistency is a

Peter Voogd:

huge part of confidence. Because I think the scariest things in

Peter Voogd:

life and business are momentum and lack of momentum, right? So

Peter Voogd:

you want to keep up the momentum. And then fourth is

Peter Voogd:

your identity. You have to develop an identity with

Peter Voogd:

yourself that whatever you say, your actions follow. I think a

Peter Voogd:

big confident killer is lack of follow through. You have to

Peter Voogd:

understand most people when they say they're going to do

Peter Voogd:

something, they don't really think they're going to do it.

Peter Voogd:

There's nothing else more important in life and business

Peter Voogd:

than your word, because if you don't have your word, people

Peter Voogd:

will lose respect for you subconsciously. So the next

Peter Voogd:

thing after you gain confidence is shifting your circle of

Peter Voogd:

influence and figuring out who you spend time with and how are

Peter Voogd:

they influenced. Then you make a list of your top five growth

Peter Voogd:

friends and maintenance friends. Growth friends are friends that

Peter Voogd:

challenge you, that have results that you want, that are list.

Peter Voogd:

Life at a higher level. Playing the game at higher level, you

Peter Voogd:

want to increase your time with the maintenance friends, or

Peter Voogd:

friends you met at in high school, and you feel bad not

Peter Voogd:

hanging out with them, and maybe they're working at the mall, but

Peter Voogd:

you like it. It's fun to hang out with them, but they don't

Peter Voogd:

really help you as far as advancing towards your biggest

Peter Voogd:

goals and dreams and helping your legacy. So you got to lower

Peter Voogd:

your time with the maintenance friends. You have to cut off

Peter Voogd:

some friends. Yes, you actually do.

Host:

Somebody who's older, do you think that they have

Host:

maintenance friends, or they have people that they should

Host:

really think about, that they may have to cut some ties with?

Peter Voogd:

I think really, anybody that's not at a level

Peter Voogd:

they need to be at needs to evaluate really who they're

Peter Voogd:

around the most and who they're hanging out with, because

Peter Voogd:

sometimes what's more important than mentors is who you need to

Peter Voogd:

stay away from. So I mean, it's not as much as the younger

Peter Voogd:

generation, but I definitely feel like there is some older

Peter Voogd:

people that really might still have people that kind of drag

Peter Voogd:

them down versus pull them up to higher standards. With this, you

Peter Voogd:

need to find your top industry leaders, pinpoint the top five

Peter Voogd:

people that are doing what you're getting are doing what

Peter Voogd:

you want to do, and reach out to them. So that's the next step,

Peter Voogd:

is shifting your circle to influence. And then once you

Peter Voogd:

shift your circle of influence, you got to make sure you keep

Peter Voogd:

the consistent inner drive and motivation and energy as well.

Peter Voogd:

And obviously, I don't want to talk too much about energy, but

Peter Voogd:

you got to make sure you're energized, physically, mentally,

Peter Voogd:

and then once you kind of figure out what results you're getting,

Peter Voogd:

you see your results going up because you have a higher

Peter Voogd:

influence, you have clarity, you're building your confidence.

Peter Voogd:

Then one of my favorites is you create result ritual. I think

Peter Voogd:

every problem in people's business lives is just the lack

Peter Voogd:

of systems in place. I really think that's a big issue for

Peter Voogd:

most people. I think the amount of stress people have in their

Peter Voogd:

life or business is in direct correlation to the lack of

Peter Voogd:

systems or rituals they have in place. So then you kind of

Peter Voogd:

figure out what rituals have consistently been proven to get

Peter Voogd:

results, and once you figure out what systems deliver predictable

Peter Voogd:

results, then you put them in place, and you can put in

Peter Voogd:

mindset, rituals, productivity, rituals, health rituals, wealth

Peter Voogd:

rituals, and then the last one is just continual growth and

Peter Voogd:

learning which, which, obviously we don't spend the time, but

Peter Voogd:

that's just continuing to reach out to high level people and

Peter Voogd:

becoming a people developer, standing on the shoulders of

Peter Voogd:

giants, and learning how to reinvest your profits back into

Peter Voogd:

yourself and back into your business and staying with that

Peter Voogd:

clarity. So really, that's the kind of the six steps

Peter Voogd:

simplified.

Host:

I love it. Well, Peter, I really appreciate you being on

Host:

the show, and we wish you good luck.

Peter Voogd:

Thank you so much you guys.
