Most of the people think in pictures. Photos and images on the other hand help you to use your imagination and get feelings for a person, a thing, something you want to buy or something you really want to have.

Use pictures for presentation, for your blog posts and podcast episodes. Carina and Martin discuss different tools for your images.

Send us questions to: info AT pik DOT nu, or contact us via Carina's site or Martin's Bio.Link page. You could also contact us on LinkedIn (Carina Ridenius and Martin Lindeskog).

Martin:

Welcome to Presentation Skills Q and A. I am Martin Linusko.

Martin:

Hi Karina.

Carina:

Hi Martin.

Carina:

How are you today?

Martin:

I'm fine.

Martin:

Yourself?

Carina:

Yes, I'm fine, I am fine.

Carina:

We have a beautiful winter day today.

Carina:

Yes, that's great.

Martin:

It's nice and shiny.

Martin:

Nice image to do a photo of it.

Carina:

Absolutely. And this morning I had a beautiful image outside my window.

Carina:

The sky was yellow, pink and a little bit light blue.

Carina:

Very beautiful.

Martin:

Great.

Martin:

And we are talking about images.

Martin:

We are talking in audio, but you could also do it audio visual when you do a presentation,

Martin:

when you have a podcast, when you illustrate something like in a blog post.

Martin:

So that's what we will talk a little bit about today.

Carina:

Yes. And images for this example you mentioned they are rather necessary for your

Carina:

audience and for you to bring up your audience emotions for your podcast or for your

Carina:

presentation.

Carina:

We use it as well, you and I, in our

Carina:

productions.

Martin:

That's correct.

Carina:

Yeah. Do you have any thoughts about that?

Martin:

Yeah, I like what you are doing with we could have it as a separate episode

Martin:

artwork.

Martin:

Now we are using the general artwork that you

Martin:

have done in Canva but for example, we could have used every episode.

Martin:

We could illustrate it with a new artwork or image if we want.

Martin:

Often podcasters are doing that.

Martin:

If I have a guest, for example, we have a

Martin:

photo of a guest but that in a way take a bit more time in your workflow, but it could

Martin:

really stick out.

Martin:

On the other hand, if you repeat your general

Martin:

logo type and artwork for your podcast, then people will remember that like other brands

Martin:

and so on.

Martin:

So you could do it in different ways.

Martin:

But I really like what you're doing as like a pre promotion promotion during the episode and

Martin:

also until the next time.

Martin:

And doing an image in Canva with our selfies,

Martin:

our faces and headline or subject or title or a question or something like that.

Carina:

It helps the memory yes, to remember us.

Carina:

That exactly.

Martin:

And also often, probably the listener could think about when you present and being

Martin:

on stage when they think about so called it's been almost generic now PowerPoint, but that's

Martin:

a name of a tool.

Martin:

But like slides, you could say like a

Martin:

presentation with different images and bullet points and so on.

Martin:

And I know that you have thoughts and ideas and commentaries about that.

Carina:

Yes. And there I can really give our audience, our listeners an advice in that

Carina:

particular way.

Carina:

When you have a presentations, just use images

Carina:

and leave the words behind.

Carina:

Skip the words.

Carina:

An image says more than thousand words and an image develops the feelings, the right

Carina:

feelings to the person who see the images and the person who listened to you.

Carina:

So use images, just images in your presentation, I should say.

Martin:

Yeah, and that's a good tip.

Martin:

And do some for the show.

Martin:

Notes here some links and we will talk more about that in upcoming episodes.

Martin:

So I have been using Hikidek, a tool that was focused on the images and then you could have

Martin:

of course text and bullet points but you could find like I think it was Creative Commons, you

Martin:

could find images that you could use, you could upload yourself and it's easy to use

Martin:

that way.

Martin:

So I have, for example, include that in Show

Martin:

Notes, one presentation I did about how you could support content creators and podcasters

Martin:

and that got viewed several thousand times so far and you could use it on their website and

Martin:

you could embed it in a blog post and so on.

Martin:

So that's one tool and another one.

Martin:

What we will test out for this podcast is the Vizzy FM.

Martin:

So for segments of your episode you could have chapters, so to speak, and it could illustrate

Martin:

by an image, for example, book cover of your books.

Martin:

For example, if you refer to something that you could illustrate within photo or an image

Martin:

and then also call to action like a QR code or a link to a product or something like that.

Martin:

So visit FM and that's a new podcast app.

Martin:

And also an alternative to PowerPoint could be

Martin:

we transfer files, they have a service called Paste and that's something that I have looked

Martin:

into also.

Martin:

So I'm looking forward to be on stage in the

Martin:

future during this year.

Martin:

And then of course I have to know what kind of

Martin:

tool should I have and use them.

Martin:

But again, it's only tools to know your

Martin:

content, like for example word cards that we talked about the last time.

Carina:

Yes we did.

Carina:

And these tools you are mentioned here are

Carina:

really important.

Carina:

We should use the tools to get better.

Carina:

So the presentation and the images should follow side by side, so to speak.

Carina:

But you link them in our show notes, I suppose.

Carina:

Yes, this is a very interesting topic, I think.

Carina:

So I suggest that we are talking about this next time as well and talking about more about

Carina:

these tools.

Martin:

Yeah, we will do that.

Martin:

So please send us a comment with an image, for

Martin:

example, with a photo.

Martin:

What do you think about and what do you see

Martin:

when you listen to us?

Carina:

Lovely, really lovely.

Carina:

Well, we say goodbye for now.

Martin:

Yeah, bye for now.

Martin:

Cheerio and talk soon again.
