Shownotes

In this episode of Underneath the Underneath, Yocheved enters the book of Devarim — the long goodbye — and finds inside one word the full arc of a people, a leader, and a life.

Moshe stands at the edge of the Jordan, knowing he will not cross. What does a beloved leader say when there is nothing left to protect? He speaks himself — his own words, his own memory, his own love — for the first time. The stutterer becomes a man of words. And the word he chooses is Eicha.

How.

Drawing on the Sfat Emet, the Midrash of Eicha Rabbah, and a stunning Breslov teaching, Yocheved traces three prophets who each said eicha at a different moment in the arc of Israel’s story — and a different moment in the arc of every human life. Moshe’s eicha of fullness. Isaiah’s eicha of disillusionment. Jeremiah’s eicha of desolation.

And underneath all three — the same letters, the same question: ayeka. Where are you? The question the Divine asked Adam. The question that doesn’t accuse but evokes. The question that draws the Shechina out of hiding.

What is the eicha you’re longing to hear? And what might it unlock?

__________

Deepen with Ohmek:

Ohmek is a community of women and men pursuing deeper ways of being.

It is the space that holds all, yet remains empty, the void that allows healing and transformation to take place, take shape, belong, integrate and disperse.

It is an invitation inward, into a space and community, as well as one’s own inner world. A place to be stretched and to come together, to feel at home in exploration, with room to be and to breathe.

At our upstate retreat center and Brooklyn locations, in our sacred gatherings, healing containers and embodied mysticism classes, we invite you into spiritual experiences and sacred spaces that allow us — collectively and individually — to explore our own depths, underneath the underneath.
