This is the last happiness hack in the Happiness Reset Campaign and it is all about cosiness and friendships.
Let’s start with this interesting fact! Despite horrific weather and extremely high tax rates, Denmark is often claimed to be the happiest country in the world. Why? One of the ingredients of the Danish recipe for happiness can be found in hygge (pronounced “hoo-guh”) which is best translated as the feeling of “coziness” and positive wellbeing through enjoying the simple, ordinary moments in life.
And the most important component of hygge is for it to be shared with others.
So in this happiness hack I encourage you to spend some hygge time with your friends.
According to Danish; The Best Things in LIfe are Free so here are so some ideas of hygge especially for winter times
Swap party: invite friends to bring something which they don’t need any more but something that could be of value. Do the swaps whilst enjoying a big cup of cocoa.
Board game evening: make memories by playing social games together. My favourite board game of all times which we have played with so many friends is: Terraforming Mars
International Fiesta: host a supper over warm candle glimmer where each friend brings a dish from a country they visited and over the meal they shared their memories from their travels
Whilst we at it, I want to give a shout to one of my best friends, Dee, whose support, wisdom and sense of humour makes me feel happier and my hygge memory of Dee was when we attended an atmospheric workshop to create an inspirational piece of pottery to learn that we have no talent or patience for it. Truly it was an adventure.
And remember our closest friends have the most positive impact on your happiness as they help you through challenges and difficulties. The best way to care for our friends is to spend time together.
