Patriotism - It is a form of brainwashing.

This type of brainwashing takes the form of peer pressure. In most nations, it just isn’t acceptable to be considered non-patriotic. However, when you actually get down and examine the history of the founding of any of these various nation-states, and those who wrote their basic laws or constitution (think: USA) you will find that these pages are drowned in blood, and that these nations are founded on genocide.

When you bring that up in conversation, someone will say “so you’re against the USA (or whatever country)… is that it?” as if being opposed to genocide were somehow a bad thing, and holding the same standard of it being bad for everyone. It’s a bad thing except when your secular saints who really aren’t secular… but imbued with some kind of quasi-religious significance were the ones who committed genocide and you’re pointing it out. And so, this becomes a kind of socially-enforced moral relativism.

Moral relativism because genocide is always wrong when another nation does it, if they are an adversary. If our founding fathers did it, and you bring it up then you “hate America” or “hate our flag” or whatever it is, and that makes a strong implication that you’re wrong by virtue of being an extremist or something. Of course, it’s really just that you’re pointing out hypocrisy.
