"Instead of laziness, let's call it coming back to your soul: being 'soul-full' ". - Jenny Leckey

In this episode of Diary of a Recovering People Pleaser , Jenny talks about disliking the word 'lazy' and explains how it is centered around the need to always be busy and doing things you “should” do (a sneaky sister of people pleasing).

She challenges the negative connotation of the word by suggesting it is a form of guilt rooted in people pleasing. Jenny shares her vision of 'soul-full' living – connecting with your true self and balancing it with daily activities.

Through this reframing, she encourages you to find peace and balance, minimizing the need for 'crashing' days. This approach, rooted in mindfulness and balance, aligns with principles of Reiki and self-care and aims to heal the habit of people pleasing. If you take care of yourself, then you can take better care of other areas of your life!

Jenny:

I just saw this quote about being lazy and how it's

2

:

hard work actually doing nothing.

3

:

It was from Thich Nhat Hanh,

and it got me thinking.

4

:

I actually despise the word lazy.

5

:

I've been trying to remove it from my

vocabulary because it implies You're

6

:

not worthy, or you're less than,

because you are not being productive,

7

:

you are not creating something,

you're not achieving something, you're

8

:

not checking something off a list.

9

:

It's a word that's very capitalistic,

it's very cog in a machine, if

10

:

we want to get philosophical.

11

:

But then I thought to myself, and I

had this channeled vision and I'm

12

:

curious what you think about it.

13

:

So what we, at least in Western

culture, tend to call lazy is this idea

14

:

of relaxation or being free flowing

in your day, not having a plan, not

15

:

having a to do list, no shoulds.

16

:

In fact, I think we say lazy because we

feel like we should be doing something

17

:

else and we're choosing not to, so

it's this hidden, sneaky form of guilt

18

:

and oftentimes people pleasing, right?

19

:

You feel like you should be doing

this for someone or that for someone

20

:

but instead you're choosing yourself.

21

:

But a lot of the times it's a total

collapse because you've been so outta

22

:

balance and giving, and not receiving

and not finding a flow in your life.

23

:

So then I received this

image , maybe it's because I'm

24

:

in front of the ocean waves here.

25

:

Instead of laziness, can we just

call that coming back to your soul?

26

:

Like being "soul-full".

27

:

Coming back to who you really are.

28

:

And then when you're doing things,

you're ebbing out into productivity.

29

:

So it's going inward to your true

state of being, your spiritual

30

:

being, having a human experience.

31

:

Then when we're not in

that s We are "humaning".

32

:

We are doing things in the physical world.

33

:

We are going to our jobs, or playing

our roles, or mowing the lawn,

34

:

making dinner, even pleasant things.

35

:

Going to a concert, road trips,

traveling, whatever it may be.

36

:

The stillness underneath the ocean, I

always talk about this with meditation,

37

:

the stillness deep within the ocean-

that is our "soul- full" state.

38

:

You're full of your soul energy.

39

:

That is the more peaceful mind,

original state of relaxation

40

:

that we would probably call lazy.

41

:

That's a reframing of lazy.

42

:

Then on the surface, as I'm staring at

them right now, you have ocean waves.

43

:

, crashing into the shore, an expression

of the water below, doing their job,

44

:

doing the action, crashing into the

shore, but then ebbing back and forth.

45

:

Those are the day to day

things that we do in our lives.

46

:

Those are the, unfortunately,

a lot of times the shoulds,

47

:

but your to do list, your job,

things that you need to get done.

48

:

Um, So instead of looking at

it as a lazy day, why don't

49

:

you look at it as coming home?

50

:

Essentially, if you are mindfully

ebbing and flowing between this

51

:

connection to your true self and then

bringing a little bit of your true

52

:

self with you in your daily activities

and letting the stillness, the true

53

:

core ocean energy be what it needs to

be, like letting that rule your life.

54

:

Then that is where you will

find balance and you won't need

55

:

those days where you crash.

56

:

I know that the new word is rotting, bed

rot, which think about the connotation

57

:

and the energy behind the word rot.

58

:

So negative.

59

:

You're so depleted if

you're rotting, right?

60

:

Whereas if you're constantly

trying to work on a balance between

61

:

filling your cup or coming back to

alignment with your true self, your

62

:

true energy, your Balanced Reiki.

63

:

If you're ebbing between that and your

worldly activities, then you won't

64

:

need to do that because you'll be well

balanced and the actions that you take

65

:

will be less effortful and more aligned

and easeful because you're bringing

66

:

a little bit of that soul energy

with you into your daily activities.

67

:

I'm essentially explaining Reiki,

the process, like the self care of

68

:

this, bringing that stillness, that

peacefulness into your life every day.

69

:

So final thought, have some

curiosity around the word lazy.

70

:

Have some curiosity and explore when

you feel like you need to be lazy.

71

:

What was going on in your human life,

in , the waves of your life that led

72

:

you to feel like you have to crash.

73

:

Where can you bring some more

of that bottom of the ocean

74

:

stillness to calm the waves.

75

:

You want a calm ocean.

76

:

Yes.

77

:

There's always going to be storms,

but we want the majority of our

78

:

time to be a calm ocean wave.

79

:

We don't want our lives

to be so tumultuous.

80

:

So I leave you with that.

81

:

Erase lazy and welcome

in being "soul-full"!
