Oh, it’s beautiful. Amazing decor. Temperature’s a bit high for my tastes, though.

JUDE

(darkly) I wasn’t asking you.

JUDE

(Liar Liar rolls over)

SYDNEY

Hey, Az, stop bothering the heroes and come check out the refreshments with me. Did you know they have teas I’ve never even heard of?

CAMREN

(intrigued) No shit?

(they head for the refreshments, leaving Mosaic and Solis alone)

SYDNEY

See, look. What the hell is Blue Tea?

CAMREN

Don’t ask me.

NEVAEH

It’s tea that’s blue, what more do you want? Here, look, it turns purple if you add some lemon.

CAMREN

SYDNEY

Why the hell did you agree to cater?

NEVAEH

I didn’t, the owners did.

SYDNEY

I didn’t know there was actually someone above you.

No, dumbass, I’m just the manager. The owners aren’t around much, though. Mostly they just show up to fuck me over with decisions like this one. God, where the fuck is Jude?

SYDNEY

Probably because she’s wearing the Providence outfit underneath.

NEVAEH

I’m here reporting on Mosaic’s initiation gala, and I have exciting news: It seems like Absolute Zero and Liar Liar are collectively flirting with a caterer, perhaps implying that they are both together and open to a third?

CAMREN

We’re not dating.

SYDNEY

In fact, you never saw us with that woman. I literally don’t even know what you’re talking about. You’re going crazy.

REPORTER

(Nevaeh walks away)

APOLLO

JUDE

APOLLO

Okay, mask is off, suit is covered up, hair looks reasonably different- Phew! Time to go.

NEVAEH

(quietly) Holy shit.

(Jude walks out)

JUDE

(startled) Oh, Nevaeh! Sorry for being late. Where’s our table again?

NEVAEH

…Over there.

JUDE

Cool, I’ll get started right away!

NEVAEH

(Jude walks away)

NEVAEH

(she enters the bathroom, takes the coat off, puts on her mask)

NEVAEH

I have to tell Apollo.

(swap to Mariangel)

MARIANGEL

Double Trouble, right?

ESTEE

Yeah, you got it! You’re Jude’s friend, right? The one who’s allergic to cats? Ey talk about you a lot.

MARIANGEL

Heh, yeah, that’s me! It’s nice to finally meet you two.

PATRICK

Of course! It’s good we got a chance to chat.

ESTEE

Although we should probably be seen talking with the Vindicators a little more…

MARIANGEL

Uh… are all the Vindicators here?

PATRICK

They’re supposed to be. Providence is the one who’ll be signing the treaty.

MARIANGEL

ESTEE

MARIANGEL

Uh, sorry, nothing! I’m gonna go get some more coffee, nice meeting you!

(she hurriedly walks away)

MARIANGEL

(mutters) Gotta find Nevaeh….

(she runs directly into Providence)

MARIANGEL

Oof!

NEVAEH

Oh- Sorry, Mari! Pastries are over there, if you want one.

MARIANGEL

What?

NEVAEH

I said the pastries are over there…? (playfully) We didn’t bring any of the cats, don’t worry.

MARIANGEL

…Nevaeh?

NEVAEH

Yeah?

MARIANGEL

You’re Providence.

NEVAEH

I’m- Oh, fuck, I-

(she tries to run away)

MARIANGEL

No, wait! I- I’m not mad. You’re not the first super I’ve befriended.

NEVAEH

I forgot I’d changed into- Wait, what? What do you mean?

MARIANGEL

NEVAEH

(angrily) It’s Jude, isn’t it.

MARIANGEL

NEVAEH

I just saw them changing into their civvies, Mari. The cat’s out of the bag on this one.

MARIANGEL

…What are you going to do? Please, Nevaeh, you can’t reveal their identity in front of everyone, it will ruin eir life.

NEVAEH

(swap to Jude)

JUDE

Hi, yes, drinks are free! This one’s a macchiato, this one’s an earl grey tea, we have so many options back at the table if you want something specific! And of course the other businesses catering have a lot of other things.

RANDO

Yeah, thanks so much.

JUDE

No problem!

(ey walk away, then Mosaic gets eir attention)

APOLLO

Hey, sorry to bother you. Have you seen Solis?

JUDE

(startled) Ahh! I mean. No, sorry, um… they’re probably… with the other Paragons?

APOLLO

Yeah, I guess so. Hey, are you okay? You seem stressed.

JUDE

It’s fine, it’s fine, I’m fine! Just- Catering to such a large event, haha!

APOLLO

…You can trust me, Jude. Seriously.

JUDE

Hnnnn-

APOLLO

I, uh… I know you in my personal life.

JUDE

I know!

APOLLO

JUDE

(having a panic attack) I-I- I can’t- Oh god, it’s so much. I have to cater so Nevaeh doesn’t get mad but I have to be with you so you don’t get mad-

APOLLO

JUDE

And Val is gonna be so disappointed if I’m not seen on camera like all the time, and I haven’t seen Providence yet and it’s stressing me out, and fucking Absolute Zero keeps looking for me, and I- I- I can’t do this!

APOLLO

Woah, uh. Okay, that’s- You’re okay! Um, what- How do I help?

JUDE

I-I- I need Mari, I-

APOLLO

(Mosaic quickly walks away)

APOLLO

DT! Have you met this girl named Mariangel? Short, Venezuelan, probably wearing something to do with cats-

ESTEE

Yeah, she went that way. Why?

APOLLO

I- Jude- My friend needs her.

ESTEE

Oh, shit, are ey okay?

APOLLO

No, ey’re kind of freaking out. Is- Is Liar Liar giving a speech!?

(Liar Liar taps the microphone on the stage nearby)

SYDNEY

You’re all having a great time!

(the crowd cheers)

SYDNEY

The other Vindicators and I are so glad to be here. This treaty will be fantastic for us, for the Paragons, and for the city itself. We’re honored to be bringing in a new era of peace in the city of Houridge, brought about, of course, by Mosaic’s transition into hero work. Mosaic is a dear friend of mine, and I’m so glad he’s found the courage to come forward with what he wants, what will truly make him happy. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters, right? Here’s to the treaty!

(Sydney fades into the background as Mosaic talks)

APOLLO

Shit. I have to find Jude.

(walks away quickly)

MARIANGEL

Don’t do this, Providence!

NEVAEH

Mari, I don’t want to fight you.

JUDE

Stop, stop, please stop-

MARIANGEL

Don’t bother em, not tonight! What would Mosaic say?

NEVAEH

He’d say to get the job done.

APOLLO

Jude! Are you okay?

JUDE

(dully) I’m having a great time.

APOLLO

Goddammit, Syd. Okay, uh- Mari, can you help me calm em down?

MARIANGEL

NEVAEH

Dammit, Mari-

APOLLO

What’s going on?

CAMREN

Yeah, what’s going on?

ESTEE

Hey, Jude, are you okay?

(Dr. Val takes the stage)

VAL

Everyone please welcome our very own Governor Eugene Pierce!

GOV PIERCE

Hello, hello. Happy to be here.

VAL

Would you like to say a few words, Governor?

GOV PIERCE

Indeed. People of Houridge, you are witnessing a historic moment. From now on, our city will not be plagued by crime and immaturity. Rather, it will be a bastion of hope, an example set for the rest of the world that villains can be reasoned with and reformed.

(Gov Pierce fades out)

APOLLO

Dammit, it’s almost to our cue. Where the hell is Solis?

NEVAEH

They’re-

MARIANGEL

Nev- Providence! Don’t!

APOLLO

Gah, okay, just- Come on, Jude, we’ll find Solis and then- I don’t know, maybe I can calm you down on the way.

JUDE

(breathing unsteadily) Okay.

(they walk away)

MARIANGEL

Jude, wait!

VAL

Oh, there you are. Come on up, Mosaic and Solis!

APOLLO

Oh, this isn’t Solis, sorry.

(the press goes wild)

REPORTER

This just in, Mosaic is holding hands with a stranger at the initiation gala. Is Mosaic cheating on Solis? Who is this mystery person? Why are they crying?

VAL

What do you mean- Oh, what the fuck?

APOLLO

I- I- Okay, look, I-

(he walks on stage)

JUDE

Wait, don’t leave me!

(Jude follows him)

VAL

(quietly) Mosaic. What the hell are you two doing?

APOLLO

I- I can’t-

GOV PIERCE

How lovely to finally meet you, Mosaic. Allow me to formally introduce myself-

APOLLO

I know who you are! Dammit-

(cameras are going wild)

REPORTER

Interesting, Mosaic has put his hands over his ears and is now closing his eyes- The stranger is putting a hand on his arm, they seem very close…

JUDE

(quietly) H-Hey, just- Focus on me. We’re in this together.

APOLLO

(pained) It’s too much.

JUDE

I know, I’m sorry. (louder voice) Doc, we need to go. We can’t do this right now.

VAL

(panicking) What the hell do you mean you can’t do this!? It’s his initiation! The governor is here, for Christ’s sake!

SYDNEY

(loudly, from the crowd) The governor is standing still. The governor is an easy target.

VAL

What? What is that supposed to mean?

NEVAEH

The plan, Mosaic!

REPORTER

Mosaic has opened his eyes-

JUDE

(quietly) Mosaic?

REPORTER

The stranger is moving towards the governor-

APOLLO

I’m so sorry.

(Mosaic shoots a glass shard at the governor, but Jude jumps in the way at the last second, Jude makes a noise of pain)

(room erupts into panic)

REPORTER

Shit- Mosaic has just shot the stranger with one of his stained glass shards- It appears he was attempting to hit the governor, but the stranger jumped in the way- Can we get a medic over here!?

APOLLO

Shit. Shit!

(Mosaic runs to Jude)

APOLLO

I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry, I- Why would you do that? Why-

JUDE

(laughs weakly) I told you, a long time ago. If I see you committing a crime, I’ve gotta do something.

APOLLO

(realizing) No.

(Mosaic puts up stained glass walls around Jude and himself)

REPORTER

(muffled) Mosaic has blocked himself and the stranger off with stained glass walls, the Paragons are closing in but the Vindicators are slowing them down!

APOLLO

Give me the injury. Solis- Jude- Please.

JUDE

I’m not going to do that.

APOLLO

You have to, or you’re going to die!

JUDE

I don’t care. I’m not putting my injury on someone else.

APOLLO

I’m offering! Jude, please, I- I can’t be the reason you die. Please, I’ll do anything.

JUDE

I don’t blame you, Apollo.

APOLLO

I blame me! Jude, please, I- What if we share it?

JUDE

Share it?

APOLLO

Give me some of the injury. It will give us both time to get to a hospital. Please, Jude, I’m begging you. You can’t die on me. Not like this.

JUDE

…Okay.

APOLLO

Thank you!

(Jude shares the injury with eir power)

(Sentinel punches one of the glass walls, it shatters)

PATRICK

Get away from em!

(Sentinel grabs Mosaic and pulls him away, Mosaic cries out in pain)

JUDE

(weakly) N-No, Sentinel, leave him alone!

VAL

Get the traitor away from here- Dammit, someone handle Providence!

(Estee kneels by Jude’s side)

ESTEE

Jude, how are you even talking right now?

JUDE

Because of him!

REPORTER

The stranger is pointing at Mosaic, it seems that whatever they had with him is over now as they are clearly directing the heroes towards their aggressor!

JUDE

No, no!

APOLLO

Jude!

PATRICK

Don’t talk to em!

NEVAEH

Fuck off, Sentinel, let go of him!

SYDNEY

You’re feeling fine, Mosaic, you’re not bleeding out!

CAMREN

(growls) If I have to freeze one more damn reporter-!

VAL

Paragons, climb on!

(Val transforms into a colossal armadillo, the ceiling breaks, people scream)

REPORTER

DCA has just transformed into a colossal armadillo and the ceiling is collapsing- Oh, hey, is that what the CA in DCA stands for?

ESTEE

Come on, Jude! Sentinel, retreat!

PATRICK

Yes ma’am!

(DCA runs away with the Paragons on their back)

NEVAEH

Az, get Mosaic out of here!

CAMREN

Working on it! Watch your flank!

NEVAEH

Son of a-

(Providence accidentally burns Mariangel, Mariangel cries out in pain)

NEVAEH

Shit! Mari-

SYDNEY

We have an exit route, Providence! I’ve got Mosaic!

MARIANGEL

(crying) Please don’t leave.

NEVAEH

…I’m sorry.

(the Vindicators flee the scene)

REPORTER

The Vindicators are fleeing the scene, the Paragons are long gone, Governor Pierce disappeared when things first started going down. The authorities are here and seem to be helping people evacuate- Oh, and I am being told to evacuate as well! With the treaty left unsigned, it is advised that you stay in your homes and leave only for essentials! Stay safe, Houridge! Goodnight!
