the Bible is just my favorite book.

So, verse four, chapter one, I

therefore the prisoner of the Lord

beseech you to walk worthy of the

calling with which you were called

with all loneliness and gentleness.

With long suffering, bearing with one

another, and love endeavoring to keep the

unity of the spirit and the bond of peace.

There is one body and one spirit, just

as you were called in one hope of your

calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

one God, and Father of all who is above

all and through all and in you all.

This little paragraph.

This is verse one through verse

six, and then one through three is

basically Paul saying, I'm the prisoner

of the Lord and I am imploring you.

That's when he says, I ce you.

I am implore.

You walk in the worthiness of your

calling, meaning you are a child

of God, so walk worthy of that.

You are chosen by God, by Christ.

So walk in that worthiness and endure.

There's gonna be long suffering.

There's gonna be trials, there's gonna

be things that you're gonna go through,

but go through it together one another

in love bearing with one another.

We have to be gentle.

We have to be lowly, meaning we have

to stay humble because we are all

gonna go through this thing together.

We are the body of Christ.

So all of us, just like Christ, went

through his trials and went through his.

Tremendous sacrifice and pain.

We are also going to endure.

Not that great, but similar stuff.

So we need to enjoy that

together because what we are one.

And then he continues to say in verse

three, endeavoring to keep the unity

of the spirit and the bond of peace.

So we need to be gentle, we need

to be loving with one another.

The how are we gonna keep that spirit

of unity if we endure together,

if we look after one another?

So verse four, there is

one body and one spirit.

We are the body of Christ.

What do we all have inside us?

The Holy Spirit.

And we have that because Jesus left

that for us after he resurrected.

That was our gift.

I'm pretty sure that's

part of our inheritance.

So we have the spirit and we're one

body because he is the head and we

are the body of the church, and he is

calling us in one hope and one Lord.

So there's one God, there's one Lord.

There's one baptism.

This isn't talking about water baptism.

This is talking about the baptism

us in the faith when we are baptized

with the word and with the spirit.

So this is a spiritual baptism.

This is, this isn't just a

dunking an in and out baptism.

No, we are of one Lord, one faith, one

baptism, one God, and Father of all.

God is the Father of all those things.

And then it continues as.

Who is above all, God is

above all and through all.

So God is above all, he's

through all and in you all.

We all have a piece of him.

Oh these planes,

But to each one of us, grace

was given according to the

measure of Christ's gifts.

Therefore, he says, when he

ascended on high, he led captivity

captive and gave gifts to men.

I have here written broke Bondage

of sin, and I have that for the line

that says he led captivity captive.

I think that is such a beautiful way

to say what he took from us, because

not just in these times where Paul was

writing, but even now we are held captive.

Of so many things we're held

captive of our careers, we're held

captive of our marriages, of our

relationships, even of our children.

Sometimes I love my children, but there

are people who have an almost obsessive

and not good relationship with their kids

or with other people, and you can't be

held captive to where you lose yourself

or you lose sight of what's important.

Of course, family and children are

important, but it's also important to know

that there is more to life So in verse

eight, Paul says, therefore he says, when

he ascended on high, he meaning Jesus.

He led captivity captive.

He is so powerful and so incredible,

and he can do anything that he

held captive the captivity itself.

He broke bondage.

He broke those chains that you always

hear people sing about and talk

about, oh, break my chains, Lord.

Yes, he did that and he does that

and he will continue to do that, and

that was a gift that he gave to us.

If we call on him, he

will help us do that.

A lot of people don't understand that.

People just assume God can do anything.

But no, it also takes work.

It takes work because you first have

to knock, you first have to knock.

You first have to ask, and then

little by little you start doing

the work and then comes the change.

Then he really starts to get to work.

That's what people don't

understand, but he can do it

because he led captivity captive.

Verse nine.

Now this he ascended.

What does it mean?

But that he also first descended

into the lower parts of Earth.

He who has descended is also the

one who ascended far above all the

heavens that he might fill all things.

So Paul here, is basically

saying like, what is this?

He ascended mean?

Because if you're a God in heaven or

from heaven, then wouldn't you come down?

But yes, he did come down.

Why?

Because he was born here.

On earth.

But then when he ascended, that

means when he resurrected, he who was

descended is also the one who ascended.

So he came down and he went back up,

ascended far above all the heavens

that he might fill all things.

And in that ascending, what did he do?

He filled all things with what?

With the Holy Spirit.

Verse 11.

And he himself gave some to be apostles.

Some prophets, some evangelists,

and some pastors and teachers.

I wanna break this down because in

verse eight, where it was saying that

he led captivity captive, it finishes

by saying and gave gifts to men.

So Paul in verse nine, explains,

okay, but he's the one that ascended.

But what happened there?

Yes, he descended 'cause he was born here.

He ascended back when he

resurrected and in him ascending,

he left us with a spirit.

But he also gave some people gifts, so

they're talking about spiritual gifts,

and in these spiritual gifts, verse

11, it says he himself gave some to be

apostles, some prophets evangelists,

and some pastors and some teachers.

So he made some people

these specific things.

Not everyone is a pastor.

Not everyone is a teacher.

Not everyone is an evangelist.

I'm not saying I'm an evangelist, but.

I am just a person here reading the

word of God and explaining how my

life has changed because of Jesus.

So if you wanna call me that, thank you so

much, but I'm just a person here bringing

the word to you in my own way, but

also staying true to what it says here.

Let, let's continue.

And then verse 12, this is where Paul,

remember I said, I think in like the

last episode that Paul always asks a

question or says something, but then he

like elaborates and he further explains.

So this is the verse where he explains

the things that these five different

people, the teachers, the pastors,

evangelists, et cetera, et cetera, these

196

are the things that he's explaining that

these people should be doing or what

197

it is that they're going to be doing.

So verse 12, for the equipping.

Of the saints, of the work of ministry

for the edifying of the body of Christ.

Verse 13, till we all come to the unity of

the faith and of the knowledge of the Son

of God to be a perfect man to the measure

of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

So I'm gonna read verse 11 through 13

again, so that it all makes sense for you.

And he himself gave some to be apostles,

some prophets, some evangelists,

and some pastors and teachers.

For the equipping of the saints, of

the work of the ministry, for the

edifying of the body of Christ, and

of the knowledge of the Son of God

to be a perfect man to the measure of

the stature of the fullness of Christ.

So he's saying, I gave some spiritual

gifts to these five kinds of people.

Mind you, there could be many evangelists,

many teachers, but this is for the

equipping, for the preparation.

When he's saying equipping,

he means for people to be.

Prepared for the saints of

the work of the ministry.

So these are people that are going to

prepare other people to do the work

of the ministry, to do the work of

God, it further says, for the edifying

of the body of Christ, till we all

come to the unity of the faith and

of the knowledge of the Son of God.

To a perfect man, to the measure of

the stature of the fullness of Christ.

So to edify is to improve or to instruct,

but in a godly way, I guess you can say.

So kind of like this podcast, I personally

think that I am edifying God, because I'm

trying to instruct and to teach and it is

something that I think the Lord will say.

It's worthy.

I think he'll give his approval on it.

Maybe I'm wrong, but intellectually

and morally, I think it's something

that can improve someone's life.

And so it continues to say that these

people are here to prepare by equipping.

So to prepare these people and to edify

the body of Christ, to instruct the

body of Christ us, all of us as a whole,

so we can have knowledge of the son

of God who was a perfect man, and in

unity and in faith we can receive,

and we can have the fullness of

Christ, we can come to understand all

that Christ is how by being equipped

and by edifying the body of Christ.

'cause if, think about it, if the church

the body of Christ is not edified.

And it's not something that's

doing right by the word of

God, then what are we doing?

Are we really the body of Christ?

We're not.

So that is what these people have to do.

These people have to equip us so that

we know the word of God and that we can

continue to act on it together as a whole.

Let's continue to verse 14 through six.

16, that we should no longer be

children tossed to and fro and carried

about with every wind of doctrine

by trickery of men in the cunning

craftiness of a deceitful plotting.

But verse 15.

But speaking the truth in love may

grow up in all things into him.

Who is the head?

Christ 16.

From who the whole body joined and knit

together by whatever joint supplies.

According to the effective working

by which every part does its share

causes growth of the body for

the edifying of itself in love.

There's a lot there.

But verse 14 says that let

us no longer be tricked.

That is the truth.

We need to be handheld 24 7 because if

we don't know this, if we don't follow

this, then we are going to be what?

We are going to be tricked.

Like it says here With every doctrine.

Every doctrine by the trickery

of men, how many places have

we not gone to and nowadays?

We don't even have to go

to church to be tricked.

We can just open our phone on

Instagram or TikTok and that's it.

We have it right there at our disposal,

in our hands, and that's really dangerous.

So we can't be children that are

tossed back and forth to and fro.

We need to have these teachers,

these apostles, these evangelists.

We need to have these pastors who are

rightfully equipping us and edifying the

body of Christ, teaching them, instructing

them so that we are not tricked.

It, and we can continue to be true

children of God, not tossed to and fro

how it says in verse 14 and then in 15.

But speaking the truth in love, we

need to speak the truth, the word of

God in love, not in like a hasty way.

Um, making sure that people like,

oh, you gotta, you know, listen

to this pastor and that pastor.

You gotta read the word.

You have to, you have to.

We read, we evangelize.

We plant the seed, that's all we do.

If people wanna hear it, they will.

And maybe one day they will have

no other choice but to hear it.

And so verse 16 says, from whom?

The whole body joined and

knit together by what?

Every joint supplies, according to the

effective working by which every part

does, its shared causes growth of the

body for the edifying of itself and love.

So if every body does their part.

And it does it correctly edifies the

body of Christ correctly and it's

done in love, then it's going to grow.

And that's exactly what

we have to keep in mind.

Like I just said, we can't wanna

beat the word into people as much as

sometimes you wanna say, oh my God,

you're going down the wrong path.

You can't do that.

You have to take a step back,

which is something that I really

have a hard time with, especially

with my sisters and my family.

But.

Family are usually the

toughest critics, right?

Because they know you, they know

the old you, so you just have to

learn how to take a step back.

And if you take a step back and you do

things with love, then the effective

working by every part does its share.

Eventually someone, someone else

in the body of Christ may reach

those family members that are

hard to reach and they're gonna do

their part just like it says here.

By what every joint supplies, according

to the effective working by which every

part does its share causes growth of the

body for the edifying of itself and love.

So I'm confident that maybe not just me,

maybe, maybe they don't wanna hear it

from me, but maybe they'll be open to

hearing it from someone else one day.

And that's the body, that's the body of

Christ doing its work in the correct way.

And I'm hopeful of that.

I have faith in that.

Yes, we're almost done.

I'm gonna read verse 17 through 28.

This I say therefore and testify in

the Lord that you should no longer

walk as the rest of the Gentiles

walk in the futility of their mind,

having their understanding darkened.

Being alienated from the life of God

because of the ignorance that is in them,

because of the blindness of their heart.

So 17 through 18, that

is perfectly stated.

Paul says that this, I say

therefore, because of everything

that I already said before, I'm

testifying, I'm saying to you guys.

When you are in the Lord, when you

have the Spirit, you are no longer to

walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk.

So I, because I have the Holy Spirit in

me and I, I, I consider myself saved.

I know I am saved.

I can't walk the way that

I was walking before.

Does that mean I'm perfect?

Does that mean that I'm

not gonna make mistakes?

I pray that I continue to

grow and stop making mistakes.

I should definitely no longer walk

like the rest of the Gentiles.

It's just you can't do it.

But then it says in the futility, so you

no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles

walk in the futility of their mind.

Our minds are disgusting.

If you just stop for a moment and you

say, I'm not gonna talk for 10 minutes.

The things that you think

about in 10 minutes.

For the most part, trash all trash

in the futility of their mind.

Verse 18, having their understanding

darkened again, our phones.

Our phones darken our mind.

We have darkness in our hand 24 7.

We are just continuously connected to

all these things that darken our mind,

being alienated from the life of God.

The world sin.

This alienates us from God.

It keeps us further and further away,

further and further away from God because

of the ignorance that is in them, the

people that created all of these things.

All the things that are sinful,

all those things feel good.

Why?

Because they're ignorant.

They don't want God.

If they wanted this, they wouldn't have

this because this was meant to destroy.

This was meant to keep us dumb, to keep us

away from this, to keep us away from him.

That's what that is for, and

that is why you need this to be

awakened, to see that there's more

out there than the phone than.

Netflix, then partying, then drinking and

passing out and just fun and wasting your

life away and just money, money, money.

No, you're being alienated

from the life of God because of

the ignorance that is in them.

that is in those people.

The people that created all

of these things of the world

because of the blindness of their heart.

They're ignorant because

their hearts are blind.

but now I see, and that is in fact me.

and I see clearer than ever.

But I see clearly because I have read.

And I am not a ignorant,

I am not ignorant anymore.

Like Ephesians four verse

Jesus and God and the Holy

Spirit will never leave you.

The world will.

You'll be forgotten,

but you'll not be forgotten by your

Lord and your savior, Jesus Christ.

given themselves over to lewdness

Lewdness, I mean, you

already know that word.

Verse 20.

But you who have not so learned Christ,

the people who have not heard of Christ,

if indeed you have heard him and have been

taught by him as the truth is in Jesus.

So yeah, there are some people who

haven't heard of Jesus, but if you

have, if you have heard and you indeed

heard him and have been taught by him.

So Paul here was mainly talking to

Gentiles who had not heard of Jesus,

who have not heard the gospel.

But he's saying here, throwing it in.

If you are one of the people that were

taught by him or have heard of him, then

he says, verse 22, that you put off stop.

That you put off concerning your

former conduct, your former self.

The old man which grows corrupt.

So he's calling your

former self, your old man.

So we all have an old man inside

of old woman, old man, whatever.

Our old self is, what he's saying.

Verse 22 that you put off, cut 'em

off concerning your former conduct.

according to the deceitful lusts.

Verse 23, and be renewed in the spirit

of your mind, and that you verse

So forget the old person,

put on the new person.

that we have to stop doing.

truth with his neighbor.

need to speak truth with people that

are around us with our neighbors,

for we are members of one another.

One, remember one body of Christ,

we all make up the body of Christ.

angry to not do things that are sinful.

hold your tongue, walk away.

Do not let the sun go down on your wrath.

So even in relationships,

never go to sleep mad.

Talk it out lovingly and with

understanding, hear one another.

Do not let the sun go down on your wrath.

Verse 27, nor give place to the devil.

Why are you gonna give room

for things of the enemy?

let him labor, Working with his hands.

What is good that he may have

something to give him who has need.

stole, if a person did something

wrong, stop doing the wrong stuff, but

also give him something good to do.

Give people second chances because he

can make something good with his hands.

He can make something good of

himself and then he can pay it

We all deserve that chance.

Verse 29,

let no corrupt word

proceed out of your mouth.

good for necessary edification?

Again, edifying is what you're

saying is a edifying God.

Are you properly instructing someone?

something the right way?

what's coming out of your mouth?

Would that say, oh yeah, she's,

she's a follower of Christ.

Yeah, she's a follower of Christ.

If what comes out of your mouth says

the opposite, then you need to, you

need to reexamine yourself like me.

I also had to examine myself a lot that it

may impart grace to the hearers you see?

Sometimes I just need to

finish the sentence so that

Let no corrupt word

proceed out of your mouth.

But what is good for necessary edification

that it may impart grace to the hearers.

Verse 30, and do not grieve the

Holy Spirit of God by whom you were

sealed for the day of redemption.

Don't grieve the Holy Spirit.

When you grieve.

When you have a loss of someone in

your life, you're sad, You just, you

have like this sadness among you.

And that's what it says here,

do not grieve the Holy Spirit.

But Hera actually made me understand

that, that we grieve the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is not just like

a little ghost floating around.

The Holy Spirit is in us and it is Jesus.

It is God.

They are in us and they.

Feel, they have feelings.

They grieve just like us.

So when we do these things, when

we get angry and we sin, and when

we have corrupt words that come

out of our mouth, when we curse,

When we lie, all of these things,

we grieve the Holy Spirit.

So it's saying, do not grieve the

Holy Spirit by whom you were sealed.

Why?

Because when Jesus resurrected and

he left us without inheritance, with

the Holy Spirit, we were sealed.

For the day of redemption, verse 31.

Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor,

and evil speaking, be put away from you

with all malice, all of those things.

Pack it up, tie it,

throw it away, let it go.

Take a step back and analyze

these things before you do them.

Verse 32.

This is the last one.

And be kind to one another,

tenderhearted, forgiving one another

forgives us, it's like, ah, yes, fools.

and we shouldn't be like that.

long time, and that probably keeps

us the furthest away from God.

There's no anger in him.
