You’ve got a bold vision and a strategy to achieve it! But why does your company seem to be standing still? Transcripts

Speaker:

Most social media platforms measure engagement in order

Speaker:

to determine relevance.

Speaker:

Basically, the more people interact with a piece of content and the

Speaker:

more time these people spend on a piece of content, the more relevant

Speaker:

the piece is considered to be.

Speaker:

And also the more profitable it turns out to be for the platform

Speaker:

as they can show us more ads.

Speaker:

And it makes sense.

Speaker:

Why would people interact with content if it wasn't relevant?

Speaker:

Well, maybe, but that misses the point because why would I need you to

Speaker:

interact with this piece of content for it to change how you act as a leader?

Speaker:

Why would I need you to spend 10 minutes on this piece when all I need

Speaker:

to say can be set in two minutes?

Speaker:

Don't get me wrong.

Speaker:

I appreciate your thumbs up as much as anyone.

Speaker:

And I'm grateful when you choose to spend your time with me and more of

Speaker:

that, but it's not why I'm doing this.

Speaker:

I'm publishing my thoughts because I hope that it will lead you to reflect

Speaker:

upon the way you speak, act, and lead.

Speaker:

If it actually does you'll hopefully come back to here what else I have to say.

Speaker:

Change is a much more useful, albeit hard to measure metric for the

Speaker:

relevance of a piece of content than the time we spend together or the

Speaker:

amount of interaction we exchanged.

Speaker:

It's the metric that I use in choosing the content that I consume.

Speaker:

Does it make me think?

Speaker:

Does it open up a new perspective on.

Speaker:

Does it make me act differently?

Speaker:

These are the things that matter much more to me than the time I spend on a piece.

Speaker:

So, from a social media platform, algorithm point of view, my podcast

Speaker:

is probably the worst thing you could do with each episode being

Speaker:

only about two minutes long.

Speaker:

I hope you enjoy it anyway and hope it challenges how you think, act and lead.

Speaker:

And by the way, if it does, please share it with a friend who needs to hear.
