Transcripts

Deana Brown Mitchell:

Hi there, it's Deana. This is the second video in the HOPE course. And we are talking about owning your self care. Do you have days when you don't feel like doing anything? You don't even want to get out of bed. I think most of us have days like that.

Deana Brown Mitchell:

For me on days where I'm struggling with depression, I don't want to brush my teeth, or get out of bed at all. But normally, brushing my teeth makes me feel good. Like I'm ready for the day. No one can make me do that. What does self care mean to you? What do you do for yourself that makes you feel good? What makes you smile on the inside? Maybe it's just being alone. Maybe it's just sitting in the sun, walking by the river or on the beach? Maybe it's watching a movie and eating comfort food. Mac and cheese comes to mind. Yumm. Maybe it's just going to the gym, or going on a bike ride? Did you know that just drinking water can help improve your brain function. Did you know that just getting outside can reduce stress.

Deana Brown Mitchell:

On our website under resources, we have a PDF with 60 different self care or coping mechanism ideas. I hope you will take a look. Find a few to try and find what makes you feel good. Maybe it's something you haven't thought about. What makes you smile on the inside I plan to do more of that. So the next part of the whole course is about protecting your mind.
