Tiffany Webster:

Hey, teachers.

Tiffany Webster:

Welcome to Teacher Business Buzz, the only daily biz show just for teachers.

Tiffany Webster:

Are you missing clues to your superpower, AKA your specialized knowledge or skill set that you could teach others and turn into a profitable business idea?

Tiffany Webster:

This week, we are uncovering all different ways that you might be missing out on some clues about what your superpower might be.

Tiffany Webster:

And I'm sharing stories about how I uncovered my superpower.

Tiffany Webster:

So if we have not yet met, I'm Tiffany Webster, and I co founded teacherbusiness.com along with my husband, Dwayne.

Tiffany Webster:

I've been a K12 teacher and administrator for 25 years.

Tiffany Webster:

I was a K8 principal for four years.

Tiffany Webster:

And when I took over that job, that new role, the program was going through a major shift at the time.

Tiffany Webster:

And basically when I took on the role as the administrator, we had to rebuild the program.

Tiffany Webster:

And I am thrilled to tell you that it was a wild success and that within a year, we were able to build that program up to max capacity and have a full waiting list for every grade level.

Tiffany Webster:

We could have started a whole nother charter school based on how many students and families that we had on our waiting list.

Tiffany Webster:

It was really incredible.

Tiffany Webster:

And all of that happened because I really had an opportunity for the first time to focus on the teachers.

Tiffany Webster:

And we had this incredible staff of teachers, and they all wanted to make a bigger impact on their student.

Tiffany Webster:

And that was really key, was helping them to discover what it was that they could do to make that bigger impact on students.

Tiffany Webster:

And so I began to help them figure out how to utilize their expertise in the program so that they could really reach more students and also so that we could have this strong program with all of these diversified skill sets.

Tiffany Webster:

And then from there, we created opportunities for them to showcase their skillset.

Tiffany Webster:

You have some teachers that are really good at planning some of these, like, fun events for classrooms, whether it's like a literacy day or this Egyptian history showcase, right?

Tiffany Webster:

You have some teachers that are really great at that.

Tiffany Webster:

You have others that are really good at doing screen recordings and digital notes for their kids, and so they can develop that skill set and then share it out with the staff in other ways.

Tiffany Webster:

We had other teachers that were really great at doing small group instruction and centers, and so then they would help other teachers learn how to apply that skillset to their classroom.

Tiffany Webster:

So we really started creating these opportunities around the expertise that individual teachers had.

Tiffany Webster:

And then as the leader, I would do my best to try to get them whatever resources that they needed and the support that they needed so that they could really step in to this strength of theirs.

Tiffany Webster:

This really made a difference too, in the way that we conducted our trainings in our meetings, because we really created this safe place where teachers could ask questions and contribute to the conversation.

Tiffany Webster:

It was this free flowing exchange of ideas where people really felt that their ideas were respected and valued or their questions were heard.

Tiffany Webster:

And it was really important for us to establish that sort of environment because it allowed us to provide trainings on specific skills or when we wanted to solve a problem, we could really look specifically at what that problem was and ways that we could solve it.

Tiffany Webster:

And people could share their different ideas, their different perspectives, and we could really pull the best from our group of teachers in order to solve that problem, to make things better or different for our students.

Tiffany Webster:

And that was really important, that as a leader, I was really leading from the inside out and not from the top down.

Tiffany Webster:

And that was a huge learning lesson for me was how powerful it is to put that power into the hands of my teachers and then just support them.

Tiffany Webster:

So what does this mean for you in helping you discover your teacher superpower in doing this?

Tiffany Webster:

I really found that I enjoyed working with teachers.

Tiffany Webster:

And coming from the classroom, I have to tell you, I was a little nervous.

Tiffany Webster:

Day one.

Tiffany Webster:

These were my former colleagues, and now I was going to be in charge, and I didn't know exactly how that was going to go.

Tiffany Webster:

And they were very receptive and very kind, I have to say.

Tiffany Webster:

And I found that after working with students for so many years, I really did enjoy working with teachers.

Tiffany Webster:

And then I found that I had this knack for helping to maximize their strengths.

Tiffany Webster:

And as a result of that, I have been able to combine my classroom experience with my love of leadership and my passion for business and put all of those things together into the business that I have today.

Tiffany Webster:

And I tell you that because sometimes the things that you just have a knack for, you might overlook as being your teacher superpower.

Tiffany Webster:

You might be thinking that your teacher's superpower has to be something really grand, where really it doesn't.

Tiffany Webster:

It's these small little things that reveal themselves that you start to put together and then you're like, okay, now I see how I have these unique skill sets or this unique knowledge, and I can use that to help people.

Tiffany Webster:

And that's what happened here.

Tiffany Webster:

I realized that I had a knack for working with teachers, helping teachers maximize their strengths.

Tiffany Webster:

And I'm able now to combine that with my classroom experience and my business knowledge to startteacherbusiness.com and teacher business Buzz and help teachers like you uncover your superpowers as well.

Tiffany Webster:

So that's what my superpower is.

Tiffany Webster:

One of them is that I can help teachers identify their superpower and learn the skills to turn their superpower into a profitable online membership business.

Tiffany Webster:

So let me help you out with that.

Tiffany Webster:

Let me show you three ways that you can start to look for some clues in your own life to see what your superpower might be and get the wheels turning a little bit on what you might be able to share with the world and turn into a business.

Tiffany Webster:

All right, let's take a look at three different things.

Tiffany Webster:

Number one, I want you to look for who you could help.

Tiffany Webster:

In my case, I had always thought that I would just be in the classroom helping students.

Tiffany Webster:

And it wasn't until I moved into a different stage in my life where I was helping teachers that I really was like, okay, I like this.

Tiffany Webster:

This feels really fun and exciting to me, and I feel like I can really make a difference here.

Tiffany Webster:

Not everybody likes working with teachers.

Tiffany Webster:

Not everybody likes working with older kids.

Tiffany Webster:

Not everybody likes working with younger kids.

Tiffany Webster:

Right?

Tiffany Webster:

So figure out who it is that you can best serve with your knowledge and your skillset.

Tiffany Webster:

And that might be teachers that might be students, that might be school districts that might be homeschool parents that might be TPT or Etsy sellers, if you're in that world.

Tiffany Webster:

So start to think about who you can help, and that's a good clue as to the niche that your superpower might be in.

Tiffany Webster:

All right?

Tiffany Webster:

And then look for what makes you gravitate towards mastery.

Tiffany Webster:

What is it that you're starting to do for those people that you keep practicing like, you can't help it.

Tiffany Webster:

You just keep practicing, and you keep wanting to hone your craft, and you keep wanting to learn how to do something better and faster and develop new systems and new methods.

Tiffany Webster:

For me, I absolutely fell in love with leadership.

Tiffany Webster:

And so I was really trying to become a really great leader and really serve my teachers.

Tiffany Webster:

And so that was something I continued just to work on over and over again.

Tiffany Webster:

How can I help them?

Tiffany Webster:

How do I maximize their strengths?

Tiffany Webster:

And the reason why I love maximizing their strength so much is because I helped them to uncover things that I saw very obviously, but they didn't.

Tiffany Webster:

They didn't really see those things that they were doing as major strengths of theirs.

Tiffany Webster:

And so I was able to help point that point out for them, like, the results that they were getting.

Tiffany Webster:

Okay, you just planned this major event on Egyptian history, and look at the impact that you created or we did this one really cool project week where our kids were studying a different artist, and we all worked together to put together this art project, and everybody contributed different ideas.

Tiffany Webster:

And then we put together this amazing art project.

Tiffany Webster:

On the day of the art gallery, we did this art walk, and it was so cool to see all of the students dressed up as their artists, presenting artwork, presenting their reports.

Tiffany Webster:

You see all the parents coming through the school, and it was like, wow, that impact was huge.

Tiffany Webster:

Not only did we get amazing results as the teachers, but the students got major results with their work.

Tiffany Webster:

The parents were really pleased and happy.

Tiffany Webster:

It was just a really successful event.

Tiffany Webster:

And so when you're able to do those types of things, don't overlook that as a skill set.

Tiffany Webster:

And if you know how to do it, someone else might not, and they might really benefit from your expertise in having done something like that before.

Tiffany Webster:

And if you bring that specialized knowledge to another teacher or to another school district, that might really make a huge impact on their life.

Tiffany Webster:

So don't overlook those results that you get when you get amazing results for yourself or for someone else.

Tiffany Webster:

All right, and then here is the bonus when you start to feel that calling for a bigger purpose.

Tiffany Webster:

I had that feeling.

Tiffany Webster:

I had this, like, little tap on the shoulder that I was meant to work with teachers, and I was meant to work with teachers in a bigger way.

Tiffany Webster:

And so that started off as a K8 administrator, and now you can see where this is going.

Tiffany Webster:

I love working with teachers, and I love helping teachers maximize their superpower.

Tiffany Webster:

And I am so grateful to be in a position now where I can do that on a larger scale.

Tiffany Webster:

So when you find those bonuses of some feeling to go a little deeper, a bigger purpose, serving someone beyond just your immediate network, your immediate community, that's something to really pay attention to.

Tiffany Webster:

All right, so let's recap today.

Tiffany Webster:

Today, you might find some clues about your superpower in these ways.

Tiffany Webster:

Look at who you can help and identifying.

Tiffany Webster:

Is that going to be teachers, students, parents, school district, other entrepreneurs?

Tiffany Webster:

See who you can really help with your skillset and your specialized knowledge.

Tiffany Webster:

Number two, what are you gravitating towards mastering?

Tiffany Webster:

What is it that you're really trying to get great at?

Tiffany Webster:

That is a good clue.

Tiffany Webster:

That is going to be some of your specialized knowledge and skill set.

Tiffany Webster:

And what are you getting results for?

Tiffany Webster:

Getting results for yourself or for others?

Tiffany Webster:

Where are you finding that success in the classroom?

Tiffany Webster:

And then bonus, if you're starting to feel that calling to serve a bigger audience, make a bigger impact, step into a new purpose in your life.

Tiffany Webster:

That is a great clue that this superpower might just be the way to do it.
