This time around, she’s coaching the fabulous Dori Durbin, the mastermind behind the podcast 'That's Good Parenting'. It's like getting a backstage pass to see how a pro works with a client. We get to hear Dori’s journey, her struggles with showcasing her unique talents, and how she can amp up her podcast game with some solo episodes. Kim offers up some solid advice on building authority and engaging with her audience, making this episode a treasure trove of insights for anyone looking to up their podcasting skills. Plus, there are some laughs along the way, highlighting the ups and downs of parenting and podcasting, making it relatable and fun!

The convo rolls on as Kim and Dori chat about the importance of consistent content and the power of solo episodes to connect with listeners. Kim paints a vivid picture of podcasting as a walk in the woods, where the audience is invited to explore alongside the guest. This metaphor really drives home the idea that podcasting should feel like a journey, not a lecture. They also touch on the tech side of things, like Zoom issues and recording tips, which is super helpful for anyone in the game. Kim's suggestions for Dori include exploring new series ideas and addressing the unique challenges she faces as a rural podcaster. Dori’s excitement about the potential changes in her podcast shines through, leaving us all feeling pumped about the possibilities. The episode wraps up with Kim encouraging Dori to embrace her voice and to keep pushing those creative boundaries, making it a must-listen for aspiring podcasters everywhere!

Transcripts

Speaker A:

Hello, hello, hello, this is Kim Parkinson with Podcasting for Spiritual Women.

Speaker A:

And today I am bringing you another coaching episode.

Speaker A:

Now, if you have not heard one of these before, these are my most favorite episodes to record right now.

Speaker A:

Because what it's doing is it's helping someone with their podcast, but it's also showing you the listener, how I work with clients and I work with people.

Speaker A:

So it's maintaining my authority while helping them, giving them the stage to not only learn a little bit more about their podcasting, but also to share what they do too.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

We do weave that in organically and that really is the best way to showcase what someone's about.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

Because when they are explaining it in a very authentic and just a natural way, it just makes it a lot easier for people to understand what you do.

Speaker A:

So today this coaching episode is going to be with Dori Durbin.

Speaker A:

She is the host of that's Good Parenting, a podcast where right now it is mostly interview based and we are definitely changing that with her.

Speaker A:

And you'll hear a little bit more about exactly what she does.

Speaker A:

But she converts your best selling adult books into family friendly kids books.

Speaker A:

So if you are an author and you've thought, you know, this would make a really great kids book, yeah, that's what Dory does.

Speaker A:

And while she has a very unique feature where she's been interviewing a lot of different authors and getting them up on her podcast, she's not really showcasing herself on the podcast and really showing people what she's doing.

Speaker A:

So I think you'll be able to listen to a few of her episodes coming soon where she's going to really shine and really give you more about what she does.

Speaker A:

And I'm super excited that I got a chance to talk to her, showcase some of the sticky pieces that she had.

Speaker A:

She had a couple of really great comments here.

Speaker A:

She, she lives in a rural area, so her zoom calls were, were dropping off.

Speaker A:

And so we have a little bit of a solution there for her and then just, just maybe talking to her about doing a series.

Speaker A:

A couple of different really great tidbits in this episode.

Speaker A:

So I invite you to listen in.

Speaker A:

It is a shorter episode than most of my coaching calls, but I think, I think you'll find there's a ton of information in it.

Speaker A:

So let's get started with Dorie Durbin from that's Good Parenting.

Speaker A:

And also if you wanted to find Dori, she's@dori durbin.com so go ahead, go look her up.

Speaker B:

Hey, Kim.

Speaker B:

I am.

Speaker B:

Hey, you Are.

Speaker A:

How are you today?

Speaker B:

I am well.

Speaker B:

How are you doing?

Speaker A:

I'm excellent, thank you.

Speaker A:

I'm excellent.

Speaker A:

So, in your words, can you tell me the.

Speaker A:

The name of your podcast and what it's about?

Speaker A:

Just give me that information.

Speaker B:

That's good parenting.

Speaker B:

It's tip skills, and.

Speaker B:

Well, I used to be able to say it all together.

Speaker B:

Now I can't all of a sudden.

Speaker B:

Simple tips and tricks for parents to have a less stressful and more enjoyable parenting experience.

Speaker A:

So awesome.

Speaker B:

All right.

Speaker A:

And I see that most of your episodes.

Speaker A:

I have notes over here, so that's why.

Speaker A:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker A:

That way.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I see from most of your episodes, they're all interviews.

Speaker A:

Do you ever do a solo episode?

Speaker B:

So she's trying to get me to do them.

Speaker B:

I'm open to it.

Speaker B:

I just haven't.

Speaker B:

So the reason I don't is just because I get in front.

Speaker B:

Because I do it on YouTube also.

Speaker B:

And when I get in front of the video, I'm like, I hate how it looks.

Speaker B:

And so I don't ever want to do it.

Speaker B:

So, yeah.

Speaker B:

So that's one thing that's on my bucket list for sure, that I was curious what you thought, but, yeah.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So I always suggest that people do a lot of solo episodes.

Speaker A:

I feel like it really builds their authority so people really understand who you are.

Speaker A:

I like to view this as like a walk in the woods, right?

Speaker A:

So at the end of the walk in the woods is your house on the left and your guest house on the right.

Speaker A:

So you start your walk, and you're talking to your guest, and you're like, you know, we're gonna bring in my audience.

Speaker A:

So here's my audience, and we're all gonna walk on this beautiful path and have this beautiful little talk as we go.

Speaker A:

I'm paying attention to my guests, my listeners.

Speaker A:

My audience is paying attention to my guests.

Speaker A:

At the end of the walk, instead of saying to my audience, please come into my house for some cup of tea, I'm actually saying to them, there's my guest house.

Speaker A:

Go visit them.

Speaker A:

Go see them.

Speaker A:

So I know it's kind of like a little bit of a journey here, but I really feel that if you don't have some type of authority, it's going to be a really hard way for people to say, oh, I want to click on Dory's link rather than click on.

Speaker A:

I think the last one I listen to was Suzanne.

Speaker A:

Yes, Suzanne's link.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

So I. I do.

Speaker A:

Now, as far as the problem with your video, you don't have to do the ones that you do by yourself live.

Speaker A:

You could just have, like, some beautiful scenery or maybe like a.

Speaker A:

Something that goes in front of it.

Speaker A:

It doesn't have to be you.

Speaker A:

You could even maybe, like, I think there's some AI things out there that will allow you to do just a talking head typ.

Speaker A:

Just an animated character.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker A:

So it doesn't have to be you if you are nervous about it, you know?

Speaker A:

And I mean, my other suggestion might be just like, you know, the first couple are going to really stink, but you don't have to release them, you know.

Speaker B:

That's true.

Speaker B:

That's true.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Yeah, that's true.

Speaker A:

Wait until you get comfortable.

Speaker A:

And sometimes it's just a matter of, like, you're.

Speaker A:

You're talking and you're like, oh, that stinks.

Speaker A:

And you click the button and you're like, nope, I'm going to do this over again.

Speaker A:

And you just cut that piece out.

Speaker A:

So it's okay.

Speaker A:

It's all right, too.

Speaker A:

So, yeah, you don't have to go live in video if that's not comfortable to you.

Speaker A:

The audio version is still out there and it's still showcasing your authority, too.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Something to think about.

Speaker B:

No, it's good.

Speaker B:

And I think I just was like, well, they're coming to hear them, not me.

Speaker B:

And, you know, I had lots of excuses, so.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

But, yeah, great.

Speaker B:

I mean, it would make a big difference.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And my other suggestion, So a bulk of solo episodes, and you could even do my suggestion here, might even be a series.

Speaker A:

I feel like you'd be really good for a series.

Speaker A:

Like, what type of children's books do I help you?

Speaker A:

How do I help you with your coaching?

Speaker A:

Like, just like a.

Speaker A:

Like a couple.

Speaker A:

Like, think of a couple of different things where there might be subtopics underneath them and then just do like a series topic of them.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

Well, then they could.

Speaker A:

Don't even have to be, you know, half an hour, 45 minutes long.

Speaker A:

They could be 15 minutes each for each of those subtasks or subtopics.

Speaker A:

And then what's beautiful about that is if anybody ever asks you, like, oh, what about, you know, like, you know, I'm.

Speaker A:

I'm writing about young adults rather than small children.

Speaker A:

You could be like, yeah, I got a whole, like, series on that.

Speaker A:

Go listen to episodes, you know, 150 through 154.

Speaker A:

And, you know, kind of a cool, cool way to kind of maneuver that and get those over there.

Speaker A:

So I like that.

Speaker B:

I like that.

Speaker B:

And use them as actual assets instead of Just a podcast that's out there.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker A:

And, you know, because you are sending people to them on a regular basis because people are asking about, you know, children's books or maybe illustrators or whatever they're asking about.

Speaker A:

You could.

Speaker A:

You'll get more views on those particular ones, and then they'll be like, I wonder what else she talks about.

Speaker A:

That's.

Speaker B:

A great suggestion.

Speaker B:

Thank you.

Speaker A:

Absolutely.

Speaker A:

Yeah, sure.

Speaker A:

So I love the name of it, and I love the look of it.

Speaker A:

Really super cool.

Speaker A:

I would suggest that maybe we.

Speaker A:

I just.

Speaker A:

I'm just suggesting here again, I love the name of it.

Speaker A:

I think it's really cool.

Speaker A:

But that's the word.

Speaker A:

That's.

Speaker A:

Isn't super SEO driven.

Speaker A:

Okay, so maybe in Buzzsprout itself, because I do know you're in Buzzsprout.

Speaker A:

I can tell you're in Buzzsprout.

Speaker A:

And I'll tell you the reason why.

Speaker A:

I can tell.

Speaker A:

The very first thing in your show notes says, send us a text.

Speaker B:

Oh, I think the only one Buzzsprout thing.

Speaker B:

I don't know why.

Speaker A:

And there's no link to it.

Speaker B:

There's.

Speaker A:

And it's.

Speaker A:

I think it's like a hidden, like, feature in, like, the dynamic information that you add in.

Speaker A:

So you might want to go look at that, because you can just delete it.

Speaker A:

But, yeah, that's how I knew immediately.

Speaker A:

I did.

Speaker A:

I hadn't even run it through my cast, my validator, my feed validator yet.

Speaker A:

And I saw the send us a text, and I was like, oh, she's on buzzfro.

Speaker A:

But not everybody would know that, you know, I.

Speaker B:

Obviously.

Speaker B:

Bad thing to be in buzzfro.

Speaker A:

No, no, not at all.

Speaker A:

Wonderful, wonderful.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

But you're not really sending anybody a text or.

Speaker A:

You know what I mean?

Speaker A:

There's no.

Speaker A:

So you can just delete that a little bit.

Speaker B:

Okay, good to know that.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

You know, I know it is a little bit hidden.

Speaker A:

I think it's probably like.

Speaker A:

Like I mentioned in, like, the dynamic information that is added to.

Speaker A:

And while you're in there, I don't know if it's like this on all of them, but your Facebook link is broken.

Speaker A:

Oh, yeah, Yeah.

Speaker A:

I did go back in.

Speaker A:

I looked, and again, these are just, like, small tweaks.

Speaker A:

They're not really anything super like.

Speaker B:

Well, but it could keep somebody from not finding you, too.

Speaker A:

Yes, exactly.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I mean, you do offer two other links, and those ones work perfectly fine as well as your discovery call link.

Speaker A:

That one worked fine as well.

Speaker A:

But.

Speaker A:

But I did notice I think it's because it ends in dot com.

Speaker A:

If you remove the dot com, it'll be fine, I think.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

This is why I'm going to send you the.

Speaker A:

Send you this afterwards.

Speaker A:

Because it's lots of action steps.

Speaker A:

Lots of things.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So let me.

Speaker A:

Let me get back down to the title.

Speaker A:

So a couple of topic tips here.

Speaker A:

Keeping the that's good parenting, like at the end, but just specifically in Buzzsprout, you could add to the.

Speaker A:

To the very front, like parenting tips, tools and conversations colon.

Speaker A:

That's good parenting.

Speaker A:

You do not have to change your cover art.

Speaker A:

It's just the title and Buzzsprout, you know, so you're just really.

Speaker A:

I mean, you must know a little bit of SEO with the children's books.

Speaker A:

Or do you not.

Speaker A:

Yeah, I was going to say I wasn't sure.

Speaker A:

With children's books, like, I feel like it might be iffy thing.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker A:

But you could also do like expert parenting or what else.

Speaker A:

Some of the things that I have real.

Speaker A:

Well, that's not really a good one.

Speaker A:

But yeah, I had a couple of them here that I wrote, and I was like, I don't really like those stressed moms and dads, you know, something like that in that.

Speaker A:

That's totally up to you, but it's definitely like looking at what you're looking, what you're.

Speaker A:

What you're featuring there, and really like nailing those down, adding it to the beginning.

Speaker A:

Don't need to change anything else because you're still adding the colon.

Speaker A:

That's good parenting.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker A:

But when people are in a podcast player and they're searching for a topic, the very first thing that Apple, Spotify, and all those other distribution platforms will look for is the podcast title.

Speaker A:

Name first, so make it as searchable as possible.

Speaker A:

The second thing it looks for at is your podcast description, the actual full description.

Speaker A:

And I noticed that your description.

Speaker A:

I noticed that your description is the same wording as you were that you say at the beginning of your episode.

Speaker A:

Like your intro.

Speaker A:

Yeah, you did do that.

Speaker B:

I've forgotten that.

Speaker B:

But yeah, that's right.

Speaker B:

Shouldn't be.

Speaker A:

No, I would actually rewrite the whole thing and start it with SEO words, parenting tips, or, you know, something.

Speaker A:

Something very specific.

Speaker A:

Or even if you are looking more towards children's books.

Speaker A:

Children's books and parenting tips, like, really start with what you want people to find you for.

Speaker A:

You know, you're.

Speaker A:

They're looking for the.

Speaker A:

For the podcast, but they.

Speaker A:

Ultimately, you want them to walk not only into your Podcast, but then say I'm going to walk into her world and create my own book.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

I'm assuming based on your answers.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So I really feel like if you started with children's book writer or something, you know, something like that, and then built it up.

Speaker A:

Now, normally in websites, because I used to be a website designer years ago, normally in websites I would say no keyword stuffing, but in this particular case, I almost say yes to the keyword stuffing for the podcast distribution platforms.

Speaker A:

And that does include YouTube in this case.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker A:

On your YouTube channel as well, I was gonna say.

Speaker B:

So, yeah.

Speaker B:

I haven't had anybody look at my YouTube.

Speaker B:

I wonder how bad that.

Speaker B:

I'm sure it's not right.

Speaker A:

No, I mean, you know, and you can just.

Speaker A:

Anything that you do to the podcast, you can kind of change over with the.

Speaker A:

The YouTube as well.

Speaker A:

So it's not.

Speaker A:

It's not like a.

Speaker A:

Now I have.

Speaker A:

Now normally I deal with just audio, but lately I've had it.

Speaker A:

Quite a few people ask about their YouTube channels as well, and there's a lot of overlap, especially regarding SEO and finding things.

Speaker A:

So it's not really, you know, it's not really that much different.

Speaker A:

It's just YouTube does have, like, other bits and pieces and bobbles and things, whereas podcasting is maybe a little bit more streamlined.

Speaker A:

Also, when you are writing the new description, I suggest you write a new description.

Speaker A:

The one right now ends in the.

Speaker A:

In the words, in.

Speaker A:

In this.

Speaker A:

In the sentence, so that we can end war of our days.

Speaker B:

Oh, no, not more.

Speaker B:

Huh?

Speaker B:

War of your day.

Speaker A:

Not more at war.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker A:

Yeah, I know.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

Well, I have two children, too.

Speaker A:

Well, it.

Speaker A:

I shouldn't say it.

Speaker A:

They're adults.

Speaker A:

I have a 22 and a 25 year old, so.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker A:

They are at war most of the time.

Speaker B:

Even now that makes me feel better as a parent.

Speaker B:

Thank you.

Speaker A:

One.

Speaker A:

One lives at home with that.

Speaker A:

My oldest is a retired Marine and he lives at home with us.

Speaker A:

And my youngest is currently at school in Boston, but comes home every weekend or almost every weekend.

Speaker A:

And when they come home, man.

Speaker B:

Oh, different environment, huh?

Speaker B:

Yes, yes.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And now it's just.

Speaker A:

It's just bigger problems, you know, it's.

Speaker A:

It's car problems or, you know, all that.

Speaker A:

You know how it is.

Speaker A:

I know.

Speaker A:

They get little kids, little problems.

Speaker B:

Big kids, big problems.

Speaker A:

Yep, Exactly.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So how do you feel about some of the content I've given you so far?

Speaker A:

What do you think?

Speaker B:

Oh, that's exactly what I'm looking for.

Speaker B:

I mean, I I knew it needed more tweaking.

Speaker B:

I knew what we did.

Speaker B:

She was working a lot more on the script, but I knew, like, we hadn't touched this since I started.

Speaker B:

Like, it's been a long time, so.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

But Great.

Speaker A:

Congratulations on 123 episodes so far.

Speaker A:

That's amazing.

Speaker B:

Thank you.

Speaker A:

I love that.

Speaker A:

I will say, I feel.

Speaker A:

Are you getting more into a consistency now?

Speaker A:

Because I. I noticed you were consistent before, like, every other week or so.

Speaker B:

Yeah, we were.

Speaker B:

I was actually doing two a week for a long time, and I just kind of got kind of burnt out.

Speaker B:

But I wasn't doing any solo cast at all either.

Speaker B:

So there's that, you know, like, that would have been easier to do a regular and a solo or something, but the.

Speaker B:

The goal is to get back to once a week this summer.

Speaker B:

I just kind of went.

Speaker B:

I mean, yeah, it was just too much to try to finagle every week.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker A:

Yeah, summer's.

Speaker A:

Summer's one of those ones where the numbers and podcasts usually dip at this time anyway.

Speaker A:

And that.

Speaker A:

But here's the thing.

Speaker A:

When parents, specifically your audience here, too, when they go back to school, you know, their kids go back to school, they're going to have tons of time, or maybe not tons of time, but they're going to have that more consistency of time to be able to say, oh, I haven't listened to the last couple of episodes, and so I'm going to go back and listen.

Speaker A:

We have a test to 10.

Speaker A:

You know, we're really routine people, I think.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

Especially parents.

Speaker A:

You need that routine.

Speaker A:

You learn at an early age, if you don't put that kid on a routine early, you don't have any sleep.

Speaker B:

That is so true.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker B:

Life is so much easier on a routine.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker A:

And I think right now it's just not.

Speaker A:

Summers are just not full of routine, typically.

Speaker A:

And so the numbers have a tendency to go back up in September and they really grow then and then.

Speaker A:

And until, like, December and then they kind of flight, you know, slide off for a little bit and then come back with a vengeance in January until, like, May.

Speaker A:

So, you know, it's.

Speaker A:

This is actually a good time to take a look at what you have and maybe put a couple of episodes in the bank.

Speaker A:

A couple.

Speaker A:

Maybe do a series and put those out and.

Speaker A:

And see.

Speaker A:

And play around with it.

Speaker A:

Because here's the thing, if the numbers are lower right now and you putting out a series, then if you're like, I.

Speaker A:

That was really icky.

Speaker A:

I wanted to redo them.

Speaker B:

You can.

Speaker A:

Shape.

Speaker A:

Yeah, it's safe.

Speaker A:

It's a safe time to do it.

Speaker A:

Yeah, exactly.

Speaker B:

Ask you about.

Speaker B:

I'm trying to figure out how to phrase this.

Speaker B:

So I had ideas of doing a series where it's, like, just parenting and then maybe where it's like, kids books.

Speaker B:

Like, we talk about elements of creating kids books.

Speaker B:

Because Renee really wants me to, like, grab onto some black book people that I can refer people to, et cetera, et cetera.

Speaker B:

And so is there, like, when I'm trying to plan these series out, since it's that good parenting, does it seem like such a big leap to jump and talk about, hey, this is how you get a book published?

Speaker B:

You know what I mean?

Speaker B:

Or do I need to tie it back into.

Speaker B:

That's good parenting?

Speaker B:

Like, talk to them about parenting somewhat, too, to pull it all back together again.

Speaker A:

I would, in this particular case, because you have an audience that is about.

Speaker A:

That's good parenting.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

That.

Speaker A:

That is listening.

Speaker A:

My suggestion here is start with, like, its own, like, your own, like, little intro.

Speaker A:

And I don't mean change the intro you have already, but I do mean, like, it has, like, its own, like, little filler at the beginning and just be like, hey, this is Dori, and I just wanted to let you know that I'm bringing you a series on children's books this week for the next four weeks.

Speaker B:

And.

Speaker A:

And this is really what I do as a coach, and I wanted to bring more awareness to this, and I'm going to just be sharing a little bit of how you would create this and how this affects kids and parents or something like something along those lines.

Speaker B:

Okay, still kind of weave it in a little bit, but focus on.

Speaker A:

Weave it in, but focus.

Speaker A:

And you're also bringing awareness to.

Speaker A:

You do that.

Speaker A:

Like, this is what I do.

Speaker A:

Like, it's not just the part podcast where I interview people about good parenting skills, but my goal is I'm helping people actually write the books and actually, you know, coach them on that.

Speaker A:

And.

Speaker A:

And then, you know, you never know there could be a parent out there.

Speaker A:

And I know there is for sure.

Speaker A:

I know there's got to be a parent out there.

Speaker A:

That's, like, I feel like my situation would make a really good book.

Speaker A:

And now I'm listening to this.

Speaker A:

You know, my bookkeeper actually has children's books.

Speaker B:

Really?

Speaker A:

I know.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Wow.

Speaker B:

She.

Speaker A:

She released.

Speaker A:

She's released two so far.

Speaker A:

I think two or three.

Speaker A:

But she's actually got.

Speaker A:

So, you know, anybody can write them, you know, and she's older.

Speaker A:

We've got the wisdom and experience.

Speaker A:

Why not go for it?

Speaker B:

And there's probably some funny stories from the whole thing too, so.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Speaker A:

Exactly.

Speaker A:

So, all right.

Speaker A:

I know you had some questions about Zoom.

Speaker A:

You have an issues with Zoom.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So our.

Speaker B:

We live out in the country.

Speaker B:

Our connection.

Speaker B:

We have the best connection we can get.

Speaker B:

Like, the best.

Speaker B:

And it still is, like, wavery, where you can hear the sound.

Speaker B:

Like, it'll kind of come in and out.

Speaker B:

So I didn't know if there was a better, like, a more solid way to do it or if that's just kind of luck, you know, our luck kind of thing.

Speaker A:

Yeah, you can.

Speaker A:

And I know this could be a little bit of an investment.

Speaker A:

There are three different platforms that you could test out and then see if the audio is a good fit for your video or your WI fi.

Speaker A:

And that is zencastr, Riverside, and squadcast.

Speaker A:

Okay, so all three of them.

Speaker A:

Do you do your own editing?

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And what do you use right now?

Speaker A:

Like, right now?

Speaker B:

Descript.

Speaker A:

Okay, so Squadcast is free with your Descript.

Speaker A:

Really?

Speaker A:

Subscription.

Speaker B:

Oh.

Speaker A:

It's very convoluted to get there.

Speaker A:

It's like, in the settings, and then it's like, in, like, the billing area, and at the bottom it's like Squadcast.

Speaker A:

And you're like, why is it there?

Speaker A:

It is in a weird spot.

Speaker A:

Yeah, but it's free, so give it a try anyway, you know, and my also suggestion would be maybe record, like, maybe like a recording with.

Speaker A:

With myself even if you wanted to, or with Renee first, just so you can get all the kinks out.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker A:

You know, somebody like, you know, call your husband in the next room or something.

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

Whatever you want to do, right?

Speaker A:

You're significant other.

Speaker A:

Whatever.

Speaker A:

What are you doing?

Speaker A:

Yeah, exactly.

Speaker B:

Just.

Speaker A:

Just to get the kinks out and so you can hear the quality.

Speaker A:

Because you don't want to be on a call with somebody, you're doing an interview, and then you realize, I didn't.

Speaker A:

I didn't do that.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

You know, so it's just something to get.

Speaker A:

But, yeah, you already get it if you're using descript.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

I didn't even know it was there, so.

Speaker A:

Like I said, they do.

Speaker A:

They absolutely do.

Speaker A:

So I think that's a good secondary alternative to.

Speaker A:

To what you're looking for.

Speaker A:

When you record in Zoom, do you record both the double audio?

Speaker A:

Do you record both of their audio?

Speaker B:

No.

Speaker B:

So I. I mean, I. I don't even know how to do that.

Speaker B:

It's just been.

Speaker B:

Just a regular Zoom call.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

So there's probably a way, I mean, I pay for the zoom extra whatever, you know, to be able to record longer.

Speaker A:

Yeah, there's just a little setting that where when you go to the recording section.

Speaker A:

Section in Zoom, it says record all audio.

Speaker A:

And so it will record me and you as different tracks.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

So how do you put them?

Speaker B:

Will they put it together into script for you then once you download it?

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

The best way to do it is to, like, pull them both in together.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker A:

And then it will create what they call like a multi series track or something like that.

Speaker A:

And it will layer them right in and you can actually label them.

Speaker A:

So you could be like Dori Suzanne, you know, and then you'll be able to go through and take a look.

Speaker A:

Now it doesn't have, like, you'll need to create in that same area.

Speaker A:

Need to create a new composition for like the.

Speaker A:

The video part of it, you know, if you're going to be doing any editing, but if you're.

Speaker A:

If you're looking, you can actually pull.

Speaker A:

Once you're done, you can actually pull the audio over.

Speaker A:

That's cleaned up a little too.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

And does Squad Cast do the same thing?

Speaker B:

I mean, like, it records two separate ones?

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Yep.

Speaker A:

And the beautiful.

Speaker A:

And it just dumps it right into Descript for you.

Speaker A:

Yeah, I know, I know.

Speaker A:

Just give it a try because I'm not 100% sure.

Speaker A:

Like, it could be your WI Fi, but.

Speaker A:

But with these other platforms, squadcast and Caster and Riverside, they have a tendency to cloud record them so that they maintain the audio quality a little bit better.

Speaker A:

And then.

Speaker A:

And then they'll drop it into your descript.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker A:

Well, no, Riverside and Zencast are won't drop it into your descript, but Squadcast will.

Speaker B:

So those two, you'd have to edit in the programs themselves or you still have to just draw them into descript.

Speaker A:

I just.

Speaker A:

I just pull them down and drop them into descript.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker A:

They do have editing software in both of them that are like, online, but with your limited WI fi, you might be finding that more of a.

Speaker A:

More of a pain.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker A:

No stress.

Speaker A:

No stress.

Speaker A:

Absolutely.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Interesting.

Speaker B:

This is all really great.

Speaker A:

Really, really awesome.

Speaker A:

Excellent.

Speaker A:

Just could you just let me know the name of your podcast again and where they can find it?

Speaker B:

It's called that's Good Parenting.

Speaker B:

And they can find it on the major podcast broadcast platforms, on Apple, on Spotify, any of those.

Speaker B:

It's all over.

Speaker A:

Perfect.

Speaker A:
