NOAA's Storm Prediction center has placed an enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms across portions of the Tennessee Valley and the central Gulf Coast Wednesday afternoon and evening with damaging wind gusts to 60 mph and large hail and a tornado threat extending from northeast Texas across Mississippi and into Alabama and southern Tennessee.

A slow moving frontal boundary continues to drive flash flood concerns over south central Indiana and central Kentucky where rainfall totals near 1 to 2 inches and locally higher are forecast through Wednesday morning.

Hawaii's Kilauea Volcano has stepped down a notch.

The U.S. geological Survey's Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports that episode 46 of the ongoing Halemaumau eruption ended at 5:22pm HST on May 5 after roughly nine hours of sustained lava fountaining with north vent fountains reaching 500 to 650ft at peak.

With ground and aviation hazards reduced, HVO dropped the volcano alert level from watch to advisory and the aviation color code from orange to yellow lava on the crater floor remains hot and may continue to creep in coming days.
