Speaker:

This.

2

:

Is episode 36 where we are continuing

the Sound Mind series and we are reading

3

:

through the book of Ecclesiastes, I I hope

that you guys have enjoyed this very long

4

:

podcast on Ecclesiastes chapter two, part.

5

:

two,

6

:

Oh Lord.

7

:

Okay.

8

:

This brand new computer just fell

asleep on me, so I'm sorry I wasted

9

:

30 seconds or getting it back on Matt.

10

:

48 minutes of talking and

we're in verse 16, verse 17.

11

:

Therefore, I hated life because the work

that was done under the sun, of course,

12

:

under the sun was distressing to me for

all is vanity and grasping for the when.

13

:

Thank you Solomon for wrapping it

up for us with a tight little bow.

14

:

I'm glad you finally

came to that realization.

15

:

Verse 17.

16

:

Therefore, I hated life because

the work that was done under the

17

:

sun was distressing to me for

all is vanity and grasping for.

18

:

The wind.

19

:

Sorry, I said sun the first time.

20

:

Grasping for the wind.

21

:

He had all the riches.

22

:

I remind you, verse four through

seven, he had all the riches.

23

:

He, according to him, I made works great.

24

:

He had the, the Midas touch,

whatever you wanna call it.

25

:

He built houses, planted vineyards,

had orchards, maid, servants,

26

:

whatever you wanna call it.

27

:

I'm sure he had a thousands of wives.

28

:

I'm not even sure I'll go back to that.

29

:

I'm sorry.

30

:

However, he still hated life.

31

:

Why did he hate life?

32

:

I'll leave that question right

here for, for later chapters.

33

:

Why did he hate life

having all of these things?

34

:

Verse four through seven.

35

:

I already know the answer because

I finally learned that today.

36

:

Reading through this verse 18.

37

:

Then I hated all my labor in which I had

toiled under the sun because I must leave.

38

:

I must leave it to the man

who will come after me.

39

:

And that's very true.

40

:

You live, you die.

41

:

And then who comes after you is

going to stay with everything.

42

:

And that's actually a

note that I had in here.

43

:

Solomon realizes all his work,

all things will stay behind.

44

:

So what was all that worrying going to do?

45

:

I, I could actually use that myself.

46

:

Like I'm a worrier, not I, well I

am a wor also on different things.

47

:

But I am a worrier.

48

:

I worry about everything, have checklists

for a lot of things that I have to do.

49

:

It works for some people,

doesn't work for other people.

50

:

But at the same time, it's going

against what God already has for you.

51

:

And he had the exact same thought.

52

:

But you know what?

53

:

I know that a little

bit of the difference.

54

:

Well, I know the difference

now, not a little bit.

55

:

'cause I have Jesus now.

56

:

He didn't have Jesus.

57

:

At the time, he was way before Jesus.

58

:

So he toiled with that because

he had to leave it to the man who

59

:

will come after me, after him.

60

:

Verse 19, we're almost

done you guys, I promise.

61

:

And who knows whether he

will be wise or a fool?

62

:

So even after all of that, you don't know

if you're gonna be wise or if you're gonna

63

:

be a fool after having to work your entire

life, after having to leave it all behind.

64

:

He didn't know if he was

gonna be wise or a fool.

65

:

So I'm understanding verse 19, when

he passes, is he gonna be wise and

66

:

be doing good in the eyes of God?

67

:

Or is he going to be a fool and

be sinful and then go elsewhere?

68

:

Which I'm sure he didn't really

understand at that moment, or that

69

:

he was gonna feel the wrath of

God and be a fool in God's eyes.

70

:

I feel like that's what he's

trying to say with verse 19.

71

:

There.

72

:

And who knows whether he

will be wise or a fool.

73

:

Yet he will rule over all my labor

in which I toiled and in which I have

74

:

shown myself wise, under the sun.

75

:

So he's gonna be either wise or a fool,

and then whoever is going to stay with

76

:

all of those things, that person is

going to rule over all of his labor.

77

:

Yet you're worried now about

your work and about leaving

78

:

things better for that person.

79

:

He finishes verse 19 by

saying, this is also vanity.

80

:

Okay, Solomon, I understand you.

81

:

Why?

82

:

Because I, like I said again, I've also

been living in the flesh, living in sin.

83

:

This is also vanity, worrying, not

understanding that God is in control,

84

:

that God has that plan for you.

85

:

Letting it all be in God's hands.

86

:

Understanding that what you have

and be grateful for all of those

87

:

things that you have is from God.

88

:

So me, myself, having control of life

here on earth, that was also vanity

89

:

'cause I was worrying about something

that is already planned out for me.

90

:

Verse 20, therefore, I turned my

heart and despaired of all the labor

91

:

in which I had toiled under the sun.

92

:

So he turned his heart.

93

:

So I'm assuming he, he was a little bit

older here when he turned his heart.

94

:

So he stopped using his heart and

because he was just in so much despair

95

:

and because of the labor that he had

done, he was that he toiled under the sun.

96

:

Like he just, he was tired of it.

97

:

So he turned his heart.

98

:

From that, he finally, finally

understood and he stopped.

99

:

Thinking and perceiving things with his

heart, but now he's moving on to wisdom.

100

:

Verse 21, for there is a man

whose labor is with wisdom.

101

:

Wow.

102

:

Okay.

103

:

I just said that context,

or I just understood.

104

:

Verse 20 for what he's saying

in verse 21, verse 21 again, for

105

:

there is a man whose labor is with

wisdom, knowledge, and skill, and

106

:

I have this following part circled.

107

:

Yet he must leave his heritage to a man

who has not labored for it heritage.

108

:

I can also, you know, you can also call

that inheritance in Solomon's case,

109

:

his gold, his land, his everything that

he had since that, that he apparently

110

:

made himself but didn't accept the

fact that it was from the Lord.

111

:

Verse 21, for there is a man whose labor

is with wisdom, knowledge, and skill.

112

:

Yet he must leave his heritage to a man.

113

:

Who has not labored for it.

114

:

This is also vanity and great evil.

115

:

Verse 22, for what has man for all his

labor and for the striving of his heart

116

:

with which he has toiled under the sun.

117

:

So what does a man have

for all of his labors?

118

:

Like what do you have to look

back on after all that work?

119

:

Are you gonna look back on sin?

120

:

Are you gonna look back on mirth, that

very superficial joy and laughter?

121

:

Are you gonna look back on all of that?

122

:

Are you gonna know that you understood

that everything in your life was from

123

:

God and just be grateful for that?

124

:

Are you gonna look back on that or are

you gonna perceive it in a different way?

125

:

Are you gonna strive with your heart?

126

:

Are.

127

:

The heart that has allowed you to

toil under the sun that has allowed

128

:

you to question everything as

long as you've been under the sun.

129

:

Verse 23, for all his days are sorrowful.

130

:

Your days are going to be sad.

131

:

He's telling you right here, he

understood that for all your days are

132

:

sorrowful and his work burdensome, even

in the night, his heart takes no rest.

133

:

Your heart is not going to be still.

134

:

This is also vanity for all his days

are sorrowful and his work burdensome.

135

:

Even in the night, his

heart takes no rest.

136

:

This is also vanity.

137

:

Be still

138

:

verse 24.

139

:

Nothing I have, I actually have this

completely, um, circled this entire verse

140

:

and I wrote here, what did

I write here on the side?

141

:

The goal in life.

142

:

Okay.

143

:

All right.

144

:

I guess, Adam, I'm not sure if I

wrote this the first time I read it

145

:

or today, but verse 24, I have circled

and then I put the goal in life.

146

:

Maybe this was Solomon's goal.

147

:

Maybe this is mine.

148

:

I'm not sure.

149

:

Let's see.

150

:

Verse 24.

151

:

Nothing is better for a man than that.

152

:

He should eat and drink and that his

soul should enjoy good in his labor.

153

:

This also I saw was from the hand of God.

154

:

Okay.

155

:

Okay, so yes, the goal in life.

156

:

Mm, okay.

157

:

This is also I saw was from the hand

of God, so he finally understood this.

158

:

Also, I saw, I'm assuming here he is not

using his heart and he's using his, his

159

:

wisdom that he actually put to use that.

160

:

Nothing is better for a man than that.

161

:

He should eat and drink.

162

:

Where did that Eden drink come from?

163

:

From his labor, but who

gave him that labor?

164

:

Who gave him that?

165

:

Who provided that?

166

:

God did and that his soul.

167

:

Now he's talking about souls.

168

:

He's now talking about hearts.

169

:

He's talking about his soul

should enjoy good in his labor.

170

:

The first few verses,

all he said was heart.

171

:

Now he's s saying his soul, nothing

is better than a man, than that he

172

:

should eat and drink and that his

soul should enjoy good in his labor.

173

:

This also meaning that

whole little verser.

174

:

This also I saw was from the hand

of God, verse 25, from who can eat

175

:

or who can have enjoyment more than

I, I is capital in verse 25, because

176

:

right there, that's the Lord speaking.

177

:

It is a question, actually, more than

I question mark 25, for who can eat

178

:

or who can have enjoyment more than I.

179

:

Question mark.

180

:

Verse 26 says, for God gives.

181

:

Hmm.

182

:

Thank you for wrapping that up.

183

:

For God gives wisdom and knowledge and

joy to a man who is good in his sight.

184

:

But to the sinner, he h God, he gives the

work of gathering and collecting that he

185

:

may give to him who is good before God.

186

:

This also is vanity and

grasping for the wind.

187

:

So in essence, he finally, finally

acknowledges that God is our provider

188

:

of wisdom, knowledge, and joy to a man,

a man who is good in his sight because

189

:

he's not leading with the flesh He.

190

:

Allowing God to do the work in his life.

191

:

He's allowing God to guide him.

192

:

Therefore, God is providing the

wisdom, the knowledge, the joy

193

:

and all that he needs because he's

good in God's sight and his sight.

194

:

But to the sinner like Solomon, when he

was young, and I'm assuming also in old

195

:

age, but to the sinner God, he gives the

work of gathering and collecting meaning.

196

:

The labor God gives, the sinners,

the labor gathering and collecting

197

:

all of these things that we're not

going to understand that are from Him.

198

:

Only to feel that sorrow in our hearts,

not our soul in our hearts, and not

199

:

want to leave it behind to someone

else, not leave our heritage behind

200

:

to a man who has not labored for it.

201

:

So last sentence,

reading it one more time.

202

:

Last verse 26.

203

:

For God gives wisdom and knowledge

and joy to a man who is good in

204

:

his sight, but to the sinner.

205

:

He gives the work of gathering

and collecting that he may give

206

:

to him who is good before God.

207

:

So perhaps the person that comes after you

is better because they know where all of

208

:

these things are coming from, from God.

209

:

Why?

210

:

Because they were probably

good in his sight anyway.

211

:

This is also vanity and

grasping for the wind.

212

:

Guys, I've been reading for an hour.

213

:

Today was supposed to be

chapter three also, but I am

214

:

not going to do chapter three.

215

:

I am recording this finally

weaning off my medications.

216

:

I think from today in the morning.

217

:

I feel exhausted, but I

also feel so much joy.

218

:

In what I was reading I just wanna

wrap it up because I can't believe

219

:

I didn't understand any of this

the way that I just explained it

220

:

and understood it until today.

221

:

So I really hope that you guys have

enjoyed this very long podcast Until

222

:

next time, my friends take care.
