Please enjoy “Loup-Garou & The Moon”, a poem by Michel-Vincent Corbeaux
Speaker:
00:00:46
He took his rest upon a hill Beneath the starry sky;
Speaker:
00:00:51
The moon that night was full and bright, Unreachable on high.
Speaker:
00:00:56
His form, a wolf, made life a thrill,
Speaker:
00:00:59
But also seemed a curse;
Speaker:
00:01:01
This life too wild for just a child,
Speaker:
00:01:04
His human life was worse.
Speaker:
00:01:07
But holding on through nature's will
Speaker:
00:01:09
Resolved to cheer,
Speaker:
00:01:11
and soon That joyless pup – when looking up –
Speaker:
00:01:13
Beheld the glowing moon.
Speaker:
00:01:17
With moon so huge, forgetting past,
Speaker:
00:01:20
He danced around in joy;
Speaker:
00:01:22
No longer growled, but gleely howled – What time to be a boy!
Speaker:
00:01:28
But still the moon was growing fast
Speaker:
00:01:30
By pulling to the earth;
Speaker:
00:01:32
So as it grew, the pup then knew
Speaker:
00:01:36
He could not play in mirth.
Speaker:
00:01:39
And when the moon drew near at last,
Speaker:
00:01:41
The pup who did not lack – With super strength – prepared at length To push the moon right back.
Speaker:
00:01:48
The beauty once was hanging high As stars would prance around;
Speaker:
00:01:53
But closing near, that silver sphere
Speaker:
00:01:56
Was soon to smash the ground.
Speaker:
00:01:59
And then it fell
Speaker:
00:02:00
from out the sky, To strike like an attack;
Speaker:
00:02:04
That little pup was holding up
Speaker:
00:02:06
Until he flung it back.
Speaker:
00:02:10
Exhausted now – the moon would fly, And from its falling cease;
Speaker:
00:02:14
So with a thud into the mud,
Speaker:
00:02:17
The wolf could rest in peace.
Speaker:
00:02:20
Now ages hence, the wolf is grown –
Speaker:
00:02:23
And stronger at the time;
Speaker:
00:02:25
It's hard to find a one so kind,
Speaker:
00:02:27
Who spreads an art sublime.
Speaker:
00:02:30
His youth was harsh, and all alone
Speaker:
00:02:33
He wandered in despair;
Speaker:
00:02:36
But memories are what he sees When life's too much to bear.
Speaker:
00:02:40
What better glimpse could one have known
Speaker:
00:02:43
Than what was seen at height?
Speaker:
00:02:46
And what a thrill entrances still
Speaker:
00:02:49
On looking up at night!
