Speaker:

Hey, Hey, welcome to what Wednesday's

edition to the daily Bible podcast.

2

:

That's right.

3

:

We're a bit disoriented after all

these storms have passed through.

4

:

So please forgive us.

5

:

Yeah, we had more, I mean, we showed

up on Sunday, wondering if some of

6

:

our people got, uh, You know, taken

out by a tornado and thankfully.

7

:

The way they didn't, they did not think.

8

:

Thank God.

9

:

Those are some not.

10

:

The wind.

11

:

I mean, it was really cool to watch.

12

:

Yeah.

13

:

Uh, and also a bit terrifying.

14

:

Yeah, we did have one of our people

that, uh, took shelter in the gas station

15

:

that got hit by one of the tornadoes.

16

:

Yeah.

17

:

And he ended up, okay.

18

:

His car is famous though.

19

:

Yes.

20

:

His cars and all the pictures.

21

:

It's in all the pictures.

22

:

Yeah.

23

:

Yeah.

24

:

Not with him though, because

he doesn't have it right now.

25

:

That's right.

26

:

I still don't know if

he's gotten it back yet.

27

:

I don't think it needs it.

28

:

Well, it's got a lot of his stuff in it.

29

:

Well, yeah, I guess, you

know what you're right.

30

:

I, I, I think the windows were still up,

so I think he might, there still, there

31

:

still might be stuff in the car could

be, yeah, could still be worthwhile.

32

:

Even just the wins last night.

33

:

What was that?

34

:

Monday night we're as we

record this on Tuesday.

35

:

Th they were so bad.

36

:

All the covers on my, my grills and

my backyard got just ripped off.

37

:

Wow.

38

:

It was crazy this morning too.

39

:

Yeah.

40

:

This morning was gnarly.

41

:

Yeah.

42

:

Tuesday.

43

:

The majority of it hit.

44

:

Yeah, it was a, yeah.

45

:

So we, our roofs are

leaking and that's not good.

46

:

We sat and gotten that ticket, taken

a look at it yet, but we're going

47

:

to, we're going to do that soon.

48

:

We w we had so much hail.

49

:

It was by far by far, the worst

storm I've ever been in to date.

50

:

Yeah.

51

:

Which.

52

:

Last year we, we had, uh,

uh, Pretty bad one as well.

53

:

Yeah, sideways, wind, hail,

you know, coming up at windows

54

:

and stuff, but this one.

55

:

Did the hail on this one though?

56

:

I was like, oh no, I stay

away from the windows guys.

57

:

You know?

58

:

It's going to come through any minute.

59

:

Oh, it was.

60

:

I was nervous because I'm thinking,

how do I seal up a window in the storm?

61

:

What am I supposed to do right now?

62

:

No.

63

:

What I was supposed to do, right.

64

:

Right.

65

:

Well, and then all the, yeah.

66

:

All the flash flood warnings.

67

:

Come on afterwards.

68

:

Yeah.

69

:

I didn't really pay attention to that.

70

:

I drove anyway.

71

:

Yeah.

72

:

And clearly you didn't

pay attention either.

73

:

You were here right in,

early at the office.

74

:

That is.

75

:

Alright.

76

:

Yes.

77

:

Yep.

78

:

And it is your, is your

vehicle a four by four?

79

:

It is not.

80

:

It is not.

81

:

So just two, two wheel

drive only just two wheels.

82

:

Yeah.

83

:

But got here.

84

:

Okay.

85

:

There were some down

trees and there were no.

86

:

Bodies of water that were.

87

:

There they were pretty high.

88

:

Yeah, I saw that.

89

:

And, uh, down to 89.

90

:

So Preston, as you, as you head north.

91

:

To north of north Texas.

92

:

Uh, you can still see a lot of the

damage from the Saturday night tornado.

93

:

Which is that, which is pretty

extensive, is more than I realized.

94

:

I saw pictures on the news, but

it's a whole other, when you're,

95

:

when you're actually looking at it.

96

:

In fact, I took the kids.

97

:

We drove by some of the,

some of the wreckage.

98

:

Because I wanted him to see it.

99

:

I wanted them to see like, man,

look at how blessed we are.

100

:

The Cal, how crazy this

is, how sad this is.

101

:

We pray for them.

102

:

Uh, it was good for us to see it.

103

:

Um, Um, hard to see it too though.

104

:

And I didn't realize, I mean,

I know we're at the very tip of

105

:

tornado alley, but didn't think

we'd see a whole lot of action.

106

:

More than I more than I expected.

107

:

Yeah.

108

:

Yeah.

109

:

And it, it, it is still somewhat rare.

110

:

Um, you know, As far as the tornadoes

go, uh, you know, especially the

111

:

closer to cities that you get, you

don't typically get tornado activity.

112

:

There.

113

:

There was one that hit downtown

Fort worth when I was growing up.

114

:

And it was news all over the globe

because they're so rare to rip

115

:

through like a major city like that.

116

:

Right.

117

:

Um, but, uh, yeah, yeah.

118

:

Storms are, are not rare.

119

:

Those we get a lot of, yes.

120

:

Which I'm grateful for.

121

:

I remember when we were living

in California, the droughts that

122

:

were just no storms, continual.

123

:

Yeah.

124

:

Yeah.

125

:

Well, we got a storm.

126

:

You'd sit at the window,

but this is amazing.

127

:

Water's falling from the sky guys.

128

:

There's water.

129

:

Yeah, those were good.

130

:

This.

131

:

Yeah.

132

:

And then K and then California

Soquel that the news.

133

:

The new shows Stormwatch

:

134

:

And there's like a puddle, a

trickle going down the sidewalk.

135

:

The storm is crazy.

136

:

Guys.

137

:

Take shelter.

138

:

Don't leave your homes.

139

:

Mageddon.

140

:

That's right.

141

:

That's right.

142

:

Yeah.

143

:

I was doing news conferences.

144

:

We're looking at this storm.

145

:

I stay sheltered.

146

:

Don't go anywhere, mask up.

147

:

Right.

148

:

And if you have a house on

the side of a hill, it's just

149

:

going to fall into the ocean.

150

:

Now, man.

151

:

Yeah.

152

:

I think for the weather too.

153

:

This is kind of it's

exciting, even though it's.

154

:

It could be quite devastating

and we don't have to water our

155

:

backyard for a few days now.

156

:

So that's not.

157

:

Yeah, my, my sprinklers

went on this morning.

158

:

Well, that's not helpful.

159

:

What are you doing?

160

:

I had to forcefully stop it.

161

:

Yeah.

162

:

As the hail was beating down our home.

163

:

Yeah.

164

:

Yeah.

165

:

Gnarly stuff, man.

166

:

I still have yet to turn my

sprinklers back on for the summer.

167

:

Oh, I did.

168

:

Um, in part, because I'm trying to see

if I can make my lawn pretty and yeah.

169

:

So far so good.

170

:

Yeah.

171

:

Yeah.

172

:

That's great.

173

:

Except for the dogs.

174

:

Well, that's an ongoing issue.

175

:

Yeah.

176

:

I sent you.

177

:

I sent you a picture.

178

:

You did.

179

:

Of so.

180

:

I'll let you know what else

everyone else in on this.

181

:

I said, pastor PG a picture of one

of our There's posts all over our

182

:

little community here with please

clean up after your dog and there's

183

:

little baggies there for you to

show you exactly what the sign says.

184

:

Yep.

185

:

And not 20 feet from the

sign from said, sign.

186

:

Is a package, a deposit.

187

:

Yeah.

188

:

Somebody decided to leave

there and clearly not use the

189

:

baggies for the set occasion.

190

:

Yeah.

191

:

Aye.

192

:

Here's my, my theory, my theory is this.

193

:

I think there's a road coyote

somewhere in your neighborhood.

194

:

That's like.

195

:

Just having a ball.

196

:

I'm just, I'm framing all these dogs,

all these animals, and really, it's

197

:

just a wild, a wild feral coyote.

198

:

Yeah, I just, with all the rain cams,

everyone's got the doorbell ring things.

199

:

I just feel like we

would've caught it by now.

200

:

someone would be like, Hey, there's

a, there's a coyote running around.

201

:

FYI.

202

:

Watch your kids.

203

:

Watch your cats.

204

:

And that's not been the case.

205

:

Dude.

206

:

The neighborhood ring thing makes

me laugh because we get these

207

:

alerts in these notes and things.

208

:

And a lot of times it's like Bobcat

sighting and things like that.

209

:

Yeah.

210

:

But yesterday there was one that

somebody posted that was like,

211

:

how do I make my lawn greener?

212

:

Any tips are appreciated.

213

:

Oh, okay.

214

:

Well, I guess some people

really need the community.

215

:

There's a, there's a person

that should go to church.

216

:

Yeah.

217

:

That's, that's where I'm like,

I'm just here for the comments.

218

:

Like, I just want to see

what everybody has to say.

219

:

Somebody, the first comment

on there was called nine 11.

220

:

Because they were like, how

do I make my lawn greener?

221

:

My lawn is brown and I

don't know what to do.

222

:

And I noted.

223

:

That's bad advice.

224

:

Well, it is, but.

225

:

But a little bit deserved.

226

:

Yeah.

227

:

You think so?

228

:

Uh, people can't ask for quick, you

don't like people asking questions.

229

:

On the ring chat.

230

:

Gordon, why?

231

:

I guess.

232

:

I think there are settings that say,

Hey, you don't want to be part of

233

:

those communiques or what have you.

234

:

But they're entertaining also.

235

:

So I leave them on.

236

:

You can't have it both ways.

237

:

You can't have the cake and eat it at

the same time, but I feel like that.

238

:

I don't have it.

239

:

I don't think that's the purpose.

240

:

I don't think it's, it's meant for

me to like jump on and be like,

241

:

Hey, what restaurant should I

take my wife to this Friday night?

242

:

Cause I'm looking to go out to eat

well, if it doesn't violate community

243

:

standards, I think it's fair games.

244

:

I would guess so.

245

:

I don't know.

246

:

I don't know.

247

:

It's funny though.

248

:

Yes.

249

:

I agree.

250

:

Yeah.

251

:

Don't call 9 1 1.

252

:

If you've got a brown lawn.

253

:

Yeah.

254

:

Hey, let's jump into our

Bible reading for the day.

255

:

We've got some Kings action

and then three Psalms.

256

:

All right.

257

:

First Kings chapter one, we're

starting this, a new book here.

258

:

And I don't remember

what book we're on now.

259

:

I was giving updates for a while,

but then we started reading in

260

:

the Psalms and the Chronicles and.

261

:

So I've lost track.

262

:

We're doing it chronologically.

263

:

We're in the old Testament.

264

:

That's true.

265

:

I I'm confident on that one.

266

:

Yeah.

267

:

First Kings one, uh, as David is

nearing the end of his life, his son

268

:

at a Nijah, uh, not Solomon, but out

of Nijah makes a plan for the throne

269

:

or a play for the throne rather.

270

:

Declaring himself to be the new king.

271

:

So he assumes that he's going to

be the one, wants to be the one.

272

:

And he gains the support of two key

figures, Joe AB and Abiathar, uh,

273

:

and they are emboldened perhaps by,

by David's pacivity, um, in, in this

274

:

whole thing, but it eventually takes an

intervention from Nathan and Beth Sheba.

275

:

You remember, Nathan is the one

that confronted David and said, Hey.

276

:

Um, man, you're the man.

277

:

Yeah, you're the one in a good way though.

278

:

Yeah, no.

279

:

And then Beth Sheba being Solomon's mom.

280

:

And so upon a hearing of, uh,

hearing what, uh, out of Nigeria

281

:

had done, David arranged to have

Solomon, uh, no one in king of

282

:

a Z doc, the, uh, the priest.

283

:

And so, uh, there was ultimate

coordination would come later.

284

:

Uh, this was the transfer of power

that signified David's true successor.

285

:

First Kings 1 46.

286

:

Solomon is going to be the one

that sits on the Royal throne.

287

:

So things are, are made.

288

:

Right.

289

:

But whereas in Chronicles, we

don't get this information.

290

:

We just get this quick.

291

:

Hey, Solomon became king here in

first Kings chapter one, we get a

292

:

little bit of the backstory where

Solomon's brother, uh, tried to make

293

:

a play for the throne and did seize

the throne, I guess, in, in part.

294

:

With the support of Joe and Abiathar,

who was another one of the priests.

295

:

Uh, but David ready the

wrongs after Nathan and.

296

:

And Bathsheba showed up.

297

:

Dude at a Niger, this cat out of nowhere,

just like, you know, I'm going to be king.

298

:

I'm just going to be I'm.

299

:

I'm going to declare myself to be king.

300

:

Now one line stood out to

me above the rest here.

301

:

And it's a verse six, his father David

had never at any time, displeased

302

:

him by asking why have you done thus?

303

:

And so.

304

:

David.

305

:

Come on, man.

306

:

Yeah, pacivity against tap it up, buddy.

307

:

Come.

308

:

Come on what happened?

309

:

Yeah.

310

:

This is this again, this is the guy who

is called a man after God's own heart.

311

:

And yet he struggles in some of these

and this, maybe this is part of the

312

:

consequence of his fallout with Bathsheba

or the fallout of his time with Bathsheba.

313

:

And this is.

314

:

His pacivity on display, man.

315

:

This is just so disheartening because

this could have all been avoided.

316

:

Yeah.

317

:

I avoided all this.

318

:

I agree.

319

:

And yet Russia's defense.

320

:

Uh, I think it seems because Adam

Nigel was the fourth born of David.

321

:

Um, two of David's other ones we know

are out of the picture at this point,

322

:

Amnon and Absalom are both gone.

323

:

Uh, but then there's one

other, uh, qilib or Chilean.

324

:

Um, It's not mentioned.

325

:

He's not mentioned.

326

:

We don't, we don't know this guy.

327

:

At some point probably, probably.

328

:

So I.

329

:

Nigel was really the next one in line.

330

:

As far as the birth order goes.

331

:

And it was common in other nations.

332

:

Uh, for the oldest son

to succeed the father.

333

:

And so that's probably what's going

on in advisor's mind is he's thinking,

334

:

well, clearly I'm the next one in

line because I I'm the oldest here.

335

:

So I'm going to take the throne.

336

:

And lead the nation, but to seize it.

337

:

Like to seize that money.

338

:

So David's.

339

:

Don't get me wrong.

340

:

Jumps on and.

341

:

Says I'm the guy.

342

:

Yeah.

343

:

And David was wrong, not to say

anything back unless David assumed,

344

:

well, no, he wouldn't have.

345

:

Yeah, David should have known better.

346

:

Yeah, he did no better.

347

:

He did.

348

:

He did know better.

349

:

He chose not to act upon that.

350

:

I guess you can read verse six as

being true about that situation or

351

:

as being more or less true is in the

way that David governed his own son.

352

:

Yeah, his father had never at any time

displeased him, that could be never at any

353

:

time during this debacle or it could be

never at any time period as he raised him.

354

:

Yeah, I'm inclined to think that this

is a indicative of David's leadership

355

:

over his son over the course of time.

356

:

Well, it certainly fits his

persona, at least towards

357

:

the latter years of his life.

358

:

Yeah.

359

:

First Kings to, uh, David, then he gives

his parting instructions to Solomon.

360

:

After writing the wrongs here, he, uh, he

gives his charge to Solomon and in really,

361

:

it comes down to these two charges.

362

:

Number one, that it would.

363

:

Uh, go well with him and that he

might prosper in his reign if he walks

364

:

in a manner pleasing to the Lord.

365

:

And then number two, that if he

walks in Amanda pleasing to the

366

:

Lord, that the promises of the

Davidic covenant would continue.

367

:

And so David is, is really trying

to, to urge Solomon to do well by

368

:

the Lord and to obey the Lord and

in, so doing reap the rewards and

369

:

benefits that would come with that.

370

:

Uh, David's death is then recorded

for us in first Kings chapter

371

:

two, verses 10 through 12.

372

:

Uh, Solomon then officially takes over

as king and in 13 through 34 Solomon

373

:

deals with the leaders of the rebellion,

uh, out of nausea and the others.

374

:

Uh, by having benign kill at a night

at a Nijah, uh, after his outrageous

375

:

request for Abishag who was the, the

Shulamite who lay with David to keep

376

:

him warm during David's latter years,

probably not in a, in an intimate

377

:

fashion, but more in, in trying to

keep him warm, keep his body yet.

378

:

But it suggested that that if it went

there, that would have been fine.

379

:

At least sure.

380

:

And in some sense, sure.

381

:

But he was never able to do that.

382

:

Right.

383

:

And that was just showing

that he was going weak.

384

:

Yeah.

385

:

It was time for him to finish his course.

386

:

And so when at an Azure asked for her.

387

:

Uh, that that's, uh, That's a bold move.

388

:

That's a UN UN.

389

:

Inappropriate move.

390

:

If, if nothing else.

391

:

And, and Solomon goes after him.

392

:

And since Maniah, I like benign, but as a

good dude, We don't know a whole lot about

393

:

benign, but I just like, I like Maniah.

394

:

Um, but he goes after, uh, out of

magic, it takes out a Nigel out.

395

:

And, uh, and JoEM, um, and banishing

Abiathar then from serving as priest.

396

:

And so finally in first Kings 2 35, 3

46, Solomon obeys, David's charged to

397

:

repay shimmy I for his cursing of the

king and had him executed as well after

398

:

he broke the rule established by the

king that he shouldn't leave Jerusalem.

399

:

And a PG way.

400

:

What made it.

401

:

What, what was wrong with Adena?

402

:

Just saying, I want to have a shag.

403

:

Number one, it was inheriting the, the,

the King's harem at we're a member of

404

:

the King's harem to put it that way.

405

:

It was similar to when Absalom

slept with David's concubines.

406

:

The wrong fee.

407

:

When he drove David out, it

was bringing shame upon David.

408

:

It was bringing shame upon Solomon

as well, and it was a power play.

409

:

Uh, and so I think that's the gist of it.

410

:

It's kind of a bold move

for, at a Niger given he just

411

:

escaped the clutches of death.

412

:

And Tom is like, Hey, I'll spare you.

413

:

If you show yourself to be

a worthy person and yet.

414

:

Like, what, what are you thinking?

415

:

What are you thinking?

416

:

Right.

417

:

How does this help you?

418

:

Right.

419

:

Anyway.

420

:

Yeah.

421

:

He's not going to be a worthy person.

422

:

Clearly not.

423

:

Some 37 then.

424

:

As we flip it over to.

425

:

Our three Psalms.

426

:

For the day.

427

:

Some 37 is a Psalm of David, uh,

more proverbial than any of the

428

:

others that we've looked at so far

deals with the question of why the

429

:

wicked seem to prosper while the

godly seemed to struggle so much.

430

:

And there's a lot of similarities in

this Psalm to some of the Proverbs

431

:

that we're going to find shortly

here written by king Solomon.

432

:

So we see a lot of David's

influence in Solomon.

433

:

When we notice that some of

what David wrote shows up in

434

:

Solomon's writings as well.

435

:

Uh, and so we, we see these

things, uh, parallel here, um,

436

:

Psalm 37, 3 trust in the Lord.

437

:

Do good dwell in the land.

438

:

Befriend faithfulness,

delight yourself in the Lord.

439

:

He will give you the

desires of your heart.

440

:

Ah, that's an interesting

phrase right there.

441

:

Right?

442

:

That's not something that we preach very

often, but it's because if you're truly

443

:

just delighting yourself in the Lord.

444

:

Then the desires of your heart are going

to be in keeping with the Lord's will.

445

:

And the awards Lamborghini.

446

:

Yeah.

447

:

I want a house on the other beach.

448

:

That's not so much in.

449

:

Think so.

450

:

Oh for, for hosting, obviously

to drive kids to church.

451

:

But, but on that note for

somebody, it might be.

452

:

It might be that that's God's will,

that this person does have that house on

453

:

the beach and drives a nice car and in

God's put them in a position and there.

454

:

Making, you know, A lot of money

and they're able to support

455

:

missionaries and support churches.

456

:

And do all kinds of stuff like that.

457

:

Um, and then they're driving a

Lamborghini, but that Lamborghini

458

:

is worth maybe a fifth of, of our.

459

:

50th of everything that they're there,

they own, and they give so much more

460

:

to the church than that car is worth.

461

:

So it's not an idol for them.

462

:

Whereas for somebody else.

463

:

Yeah.

464

:

That desire might be, I need that

because that's going to make me happy.

465

:

Yeah.

466

:

And then those are different things.

467

:

Yeah.

468

:

There's a, there's something

to be said about the, the

469

:

relative expenditures, like.

470

:

Like for us, if you're, if you're

spending a thousand dollars a month

471

:

on a car right now, which is, I guess

in line with what's being offered.

472

:

That's a, you know, that's a substantial

amount of your take-home pay.

473

:

Yeah.

474

:

There for a guy like that, whoever

this hypothetical person is that

475

:

we're imagining, you know, that's

a drop in the bucket right.

476

:

Of a very large bucket

that God is busting with.

477

:

And he's faithful and he's

engaged with his church.

478

:

He's not.

479

:

Flaunting it, which.

480

:

You know, I guess that's going to be

subjective as well, in some sense, but

481

:

yeah, it's a matter of being faithful.

482

:

It's not a matter of

the number necessarily.

483

:

It's a matter of your faithfulness.

484

:

And I think that's an important

feature here, but you're right.

485

:

It is about delighting

yourself in the Lord.

486

:

If you delight yourself in what he

wants, you're going to want what

487

:

he wants and that's going to look

different for a lot of people.

488

:

Yeah.

489

:

Yeah.

490

:

The, the question in before

him in the Psalm is the, why

491

:

do the wicked seem to be.

492

:

B, um, Be thriving in the good or him

even seem to be suffering so much.

493

:

And I think one of the keys to

answering this question and it was

494

:

true for David true for Solomon.

495

:

And it's true for us today, as well

as found in verse seven, be still

496

:

before the Lord and wait patiently.

497

:

For him fret, not yourself over the

one who prospers in his way for the

498

:

man who carries out evil devices.

499

:

And so the key in, in answering this

for us is that patients it's, it's

500

:

realizing, okay, God is going to

ultimately be the final one to, to

501

:

determine what is right and what is wrong.

502

:

He's going to write the wrongs.

503

:

He's going to bring the justice.

504

:

Uh, and so as we wait here and it

seems like the evil person is getting

505

:

everything they want and living

the high life, and they're fine.

506

:

And, and here we are, and we're

struggling to make ends meet or whatever

507

:

it may be for you wherever you're at.

508

:

It's it's the key is I'm going to, I'm

going to choose to be patient again.

509

:

We walk by faith, not by sight, and then

those times of going, okay, God, I don't

510

:

fully understand what you're doing here,

but I'm gonna trust that you're going to

511

:

ultimately bring what is is just about and

bring what is is right about in the end.

512

:

It kinda reminds me, I think Peter

is addressing a similar audience

513

:

in second, Peter chapter three,

where he says the Lord is not

514

:

slow to fulfill his promise folks.

515

:

His day is coming.

516

:

Uh, one day.

517

:

What the Lord is like a thousand years

and a thousand years is as a day.

518

:

He's not slow to fulfill that.

519

:

So fulfill his promises, some count

slowness, but is patient toward you

520

:

not wishing that any should perish,

but that all should reach repentance.

521

:

You've caught this before

pastor PG, even recently.

522

:

I think, um, since all these things

are that's to be dissolved with sort

523

:

of people like you to be in lives of

holiness and godliness waiting for and

524

:

hastening the coming of the day of God.

525

:

So there is a day coming.

526

:

And that day is on the calendar.

527

:

It's a day that God knows it's a

day that's it has urgency behind it.

528

:

And because of that, we can be

patient in the meantime, even if we're

529

:

suffering unjustly and just say, okay,

God, God knows what he's going to do.

530

:

And God's giving time for the unrepentant

center to be repentant and to turn to

531

:

him in faith, we can wait that out.

532

:

I mean, if, if our patients means

someone else gets saved, I think

533

:

it would be happy with that.

534

:

Yup.

535

:

Yup.

536

:

Good trade.

537

:

Yeah.

538

:

Yeah.

539

:

Some of the parallels then in here

with some of the proverbial writings,

540

:

look at verse 23 of 37, that the steps

of man are established by the Lord.

541

:

Psalm 16, verse nine, I believe

says something very similar to that.

542

:

The plant, the heart of man Plains is

waved, but the Lord establishes his

543

:

Proverbs 16 verse nine is what you meant.

544

:

Yes.

545

:

Thank you.

546

:

What did I say?

547

:

So, okay.

548

:

Yeah.

549

:

Proverbs 16, nine.

550

:

Uh, and then verse 25, I've been young,

I'm old, I've not seen the righteous

551

:

forsaken or his children begging for

bread verse 27, turn away from evil duke.

552

:

It that's going to be a common

theme in the book of Proverbs.

553

:

So you shall dwell forever in the

promise of, of reward coming from how we.

554

:

Uh, do that.

555

:

In fact, that's kind of, the key

theme of Proverbs is, is the fear

556

:

of the Lord turning away from evil.

557

:

Doing good is a key component of that.

558

:

So there's a lot of parallels there

between some 37 in the Proverbs.

559

:

Psalm 71.

560

:

Uh, some somebody, one is a

Psalm about growing old in the

561

:

concerns that accompany old age.

562

:

And so here you have, I feel it.

563

:

Yeah, come on.

564

:

And we're not sure if this is David.

565

:

Uh, it.

566

:

I guess it would fit, but it could

have been anyone else in that regard,

567

:

but it's not a attributed wrote this.

568

:

In the title.

569

:

That's right.

570

:

This is pastor rod wrote

this good or done it.

571

:

Um, verses one through eight, uh, his

confidence as he grew, as old is going

572

:

to still remain in God, upon you.

573

:

I've leaned before my birth verse six, you

are, he who took me from my mother's room.

574

:

My praise is continuing to have you.

575

:

In other words, I'm not going

to go anywhere else because

576

:

I've been trusting you.

577

:

From the very beginning here verses

nine through 13, then his prayer.

578

:

Uh, to God to continue

to show himself faithful.

579

:

He's asking God in the time of old age,

verse nine, don't forsake me when my

580

:

strength is spent, as he approaches

the end of his life, he's praying

581

:

that God would continue to be faithful

to him as he's always been faithful.

582

:

And again, this is not.

583

:

Uh, suggesting that God is somehow

going to stop being faithful.

584

:

But this is just asking God to be who

God is to, to remain faithful to his, his

585

:

chosen, to remain faithful to his people.

586

:

And then finally verses 14 through

24, he resolves, I'm going to

587

:

praise God and tell him his

faithfulness to younger generations.

588

:

I'm not going to be done.

589

:

I'm going to realize man, as long as I'm

alive, there's something for me to do.

590

:

And God has worked for me to do,

especially with the younger generations.

591

:

And the local church people stay there.

592

:

Yes.

593

:

They add it, please.

594

:

I do not leave the church.

595

:

Come on.

596

:

How many times I've got to tell this?

597

:

I feel like someone

has to hear this again.

598

:

People.

599

:

If as you get older, stay

in the church, don't leave.

600

:

Don't leave the young people.

601

:

We need you.

602

:

We need you a hundred

percent, have a role to play.

603

:

You have purpose.

604

:

You have.

605

:

You have so much to offer

us and the entire church.

606

:

So please don't go anywhere.

607

:

Are.

608

:

You're saying we and us

pretty liberally there.

609

:

We as in the whole church.

610

:

Yeah, no, we all need.

611

:

Yeah.

612

:

Yeah.

613

:

I have no one else in mind.

614

:

Yeah.

615

:

I turned 40 this in, uh, in, in next

month I said, Less than a month away.

616

:

Yeah, yeah.

617

:

Yeah.

618

:

I remember 40 lessons for 40 years is I'm.

619

:

Looking forward.

620

:

Well, I told my wife, I said, I'm not

sure what I haven't decided what I'm

621

:

gonna do for my midlife crisis yet.

622

:

Oh, the, the motorcycle.

623

:

I did see a Harley Davidson dealer.

624

:

Not too far away from him.

625

:

I'm not a Miata guy.

626

:

That's for sure.

627

:

Harley Davidson.

628

:

Uh, I don't know about

the motorcycle on a hog.

629

:

Yeah.

630

:

I could see it

631

:

coming with a headband jacked up pickup

truck four by four that's that's my

632

:

midlife crisis leather vest with.

633

:

Definitely not with a

heart that says mom on it.

634

:

Yeah, no, probably not.

635

:

Now no new biker name,

but yes, I agree with you.

636

:

Uh, we, as a church corporately still

need the older saints and we do too.

637

:

I mean, we, we need the, the, the

generation that's gone before us.

638

:

That's raised teenagers that

come alongside us as we're

639

:

trying to raise teenagers now.

640

:

And.

641

:

All of the such.

642

:

So, yeah, please stay.

643

:

I love this song.

644

:

This is a precious song.

645

:

I'm going to keep this

on for years to come.

646

:

I'm sure.

647

:

And, and keep, keep it at the forefront

of my heart, because this is so powerful.

648

:

Yeah.

649

:

All of us are getting older.

650

:

None of us is getting younger.

651

:

There's.

652

:

There's no Benjamin button in

our church to my knowledge.

653

:

Right?

654

:

All of us are going to get old

and gray and wrinkly and ugly.

655

:

Actually some people age really nice.

656

:

So that's not true for all of us.

657

:

We're all going to get wrinkly.

658

:

We're all going to look different.

659

:

It's just the way life goes.

660

:

Yeah.

661

:

Contrary to the facts

to mark Twain's desire.

662

:

Contrary, even to what the

popular media shows you like.

663

:

Oh, you can stay young forever as

you were talking about on Sunday.

664

:

Yeah.

665

:

Cryogenics, not for us.

666

:

Right.

667

:

But man, what a cool thing to age

gracefully, knowing that the God of

668

:

grace is sustaining you through every

season of life, including your death.

669

:

Yep.

670

:

Yeah, Psalm 94 then is a prayer of God.

671

:

Or per to God.

672

:

Uh, to exact vengeance upon the wicked,

who'd been oppressing the righteous again,

673

:

a situation where the Psalmus describes

his plight, affirms his trust in God to

674

:

provide the deliverance that he needs.

675

:

And so this is similar

if there's not a lot of.

676

:

Uh, new themes here, themes that

we've seen before over and over again.

677

:

Again, why does the Bible repeat themes?

678

:

Because it's important.

679

:

It's, it's important for us to remember.

680

:

Uh, that the brokenness of this world.

681

:

The God is still in control.

682

:

He still sovereign over these things

and he still worth worthy of our trust

683

:

in our reliance, upon him as well.

684

:

Amen.

685

:

We need that reminder.

686

:

We're first of all, people, yes, we do.

687

:

Yep.

688

:

Yeah.

689

:

Verse 14.

690

:

The Lord will not forsake his people.

691

:

He will not abandon his heritage.

692

:

An important promise for Israel.

693

:

But it also holds true

for us at the church too.

694

:

I like verse 12.

695

:

Bless it.

696

:

As a man whom you discipline a Lord.

697

:

That's not going to be on

anyone's favorite verses list.

698

:

Nope.

699

:

But that person is truly

blessed as what scripture says.

700

:

If you're being disciplined by God, you're

a blessed person because he's teaching.

701

:

Uh, he's training as a father, the

son, and as a father disciplines,

702

:

his son in whom he delights.

703

:

Yup.

704

:

Yup.

705

:

Well, Hey, guess what?

706

:

Tomorrow we're only covering

one chapter tomorrow, guys.

707

:

That's it.

708

:

So, oh, relief.

709

:

Yeah.

710

:

So tune in tomorrow and get

ready for just one chapter.

711

:

It's going to be a break tomorrow.

712

:

I feel it in the daily Bible

podcast, I'm going to get my

713

:

non-alcoholic margarita out.

714

:

It's someone 19 though.

715

:

So.

716

:

All of it.

717

:

I'm gonna get my Gatorade

instead, but yeah.
