Shownotes

Statistically, the higher up the corporate ladder you are, the fewer the women you’ll find. Is this because women are any less competent or perhaps because they are unwilling to take leadership positions? Of course not. Women are more than capable and eager to take a more prominent role in both economic and social settings. However, women face an uphill battle against a discriminatory society. The struggle has caused many women to internalize negative feelings leading to apathy or behaviors that aid the spread of sexism. Though the external factors contributing to the disproportionate representation of women in the workplace receive the majority of attention, there is an equally important conversation to be had on the internal factors. Sheryl Sandberg, the Chief Operating Officer of Facebook, gives us a roadmap on how to identify these behaviors, how to gain the self-confidence to overcome them in a hostile society and workplace, and how to successfully balance work and life in the face of these problems.
