Shownotes

In ep 188 of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, Dan Pye joins Sam and Mark to talk about a multi-character script that's full of balls - bingo balls! We look at making a museum audio guide for kids, and how you can lighten a script for the target audience. We consider what happens when you're asked to read both characters in a script because the other person hasn't been cast yet, and what pauses to leave so an editor has clear line of sight!

Our obsessions are vitamins and motorways, and Dan seems like trouble right from the off!!

Our VO question this week is all about how much chit-chat you should engage in down the line with clients and producers.

Script 1

Look carefully at the portrait of Elizabeth Garrett Anderson. Take your time – look at it for at least a whole minute. What can you see?

What is Elizabeth Garrett Anderson wearing?

• She is wearing a plain black academic gown (showing that she has graduated from university).

• She has chosen to pose in her gown rather than in fashionable clothing.

• She is also wearing a simple pearl necklace which had cost sixpence. She added this because the artist asked her to wear some jewellery to brighten up her outfit.

Script 2

B11: Alright Number 9, ready for tonight?

B9: You know me, Legs Eleven. Always up for a bit of Buzz Bingo!

B11. It's what bingo balls like us are made for!

B9: So before we roll out there… reminder time?

B11: Go on then.

B9: Bingo's exciting, but we all need--

Both: To keep it fun!

B11: Set a budget before you start-

B9: And stick to it!-

B11: No chasing. No "one more coz I feel lucky."

B9: Coz we've seen enough games to know - fun's only fun when

Both: you're in control.

Narrator: Keep it fun. Set a limit. Take a break anytime.

Bingo caller: On its own, NUMBER 9!

Narrator: For tools and support see buzz bingo.com forward slash safe.

Narrator: 18+. Gambleaware.org.
