After Texas took bold steps to secure the border and insert immigration to the top of the national conversation, the GOP Senate, spearheaded by Senator James Lankford (Oklahoma), negotiated a compromise deal that would allow up to 5000 border encounters a day before the border could be shut down. All of this was in exchange for more tens billions to both Ukraine and Israel.
When 60%+ of the country is in favor of mass deportation, much less an immediately closed border, such a compromise is an abject betrayal.
To discuss what this means and the geopolitics driving it all, we are joined by writer and academic, Josiah Lippincott.
