Marlin (:

Last time on Geek Force War. War never changes. The Squad talks about Bethesda's Fallout show streaming on Amazon Prime and Rayman brought us to the fantasy with N .K. Jemisin's The Fifth Season. What's here we're talking about today now on Geek Force.

Ray (:

Welcome to GeekForce, where pop culture rules all. My name is Ray. Kat is out today, but with me is the wonderful Marlon and Amy. How are you both?

Marlin (:

Ayy!

Eming (:

We're so wonderful. We're also matching a little bit. Not intentional, I promise.

Marlin (:

Happy Mother's Day! Got some blue going on. Got some blue.

Ray (:

That's true.

Well, either way, doing good.

Eming (:

How are you guys doing today?

Marlin (:

making it work. It's a lovely sunny. The weather is starting to feel like sometimes summer and the morning it's definitely gave us a nice little like, hey, it might rain today. Who knows?

Eming (:

sometimes summer.

It did it was a little bit dark this morning then it

Ray (:

true. Did either of you get out to see some Aurora Borealis?

Eming (:

Not from where I was, I did not see...

Marlin (:

You see, I didn't know there was a thing and I had that very similar The Simpsons moment where he was like, the Royal Royalis here, this region and this location. I was like, wait, it happened? Are you kidding? No way. It didn't happen. I missed it.

Ray (:

Yeah, we've just been getting dunked on for like two days straight by solar radiation, so thanks ozone layer. Thanks for protecting us.

Marlin (:

Hey, hey, hey, this is gonna be how we become bang babies from static shock. This is this is origins. Wait, I want to be bang babies. I don't want to be fantastic for I want it to be Enoch Ray. I want it to be Enoch. I don't want to be from the Richard family. I wanted to be Enoch or at least that chick lady or rock man. boo.

Ray (:

Yep. No, this is Fantastic Four. You got the wrong Kamakura origin story. Wrong. Wrong origin story.

Eming (:

a fan, Marlin?

Ray (:

No, you get to be a rock man. You get to be a rock man. But yeah, so we have a couple of, you know, concepts here to go through today. Speaking of rock men, that's what I would kind of start with today is Marlin, I very recently...

Eming (:

Fingers crossed, fingers crossed.

Marlin (:

so many.

Ray (:

watched I went down into the reality TV show hole in Netflix for not the first time. Not the first time, but it is a rarity that I do so. And I did it this time because of I love game shows. They're some of my favorite things in existence. And who doesn't love game shows that remind them of Legend of the Hidden Temple like a bunch with just

Marlin (:

you

Eming (:

You followed Marlin's path to darkness.

Ray (:

random feats of strength and things which brings me to physical 100 the most recent I mean I'm most recent but you know big South Korean exciting show I hear you've seen it even you haven't seen the show before have you

Eming (:

I've seen snippets, I've heard about it, but I'm also like, I don't like watching things that make me feel bad about myself. And as someone who's not fit like at all or hasn't been in several years, watching that makes me feel sad. So.

Ray (:

Okay.

I feel like this show does the opposite. Okay, well that's fair. That is one reaction. They're so wholesome is one of my favorite parts about this show. Like all the contestants are, no matter what competition it is to like go against each other, the whole time everyone's like, yeah, you can do it. Yeah, finish it out. Like who cares if you're about to lose? Like you gotta.

Marlin (:

So good.

Eming (:

Mmm.

Ray (:

You gotta finish carrying the thing. You can do it. Like time, yeah, timer's over, but you can finish the race. Like everyone's so wholesome. It's so adorable to see.

Marlin (:

I mean, it also has this really great and like, it's this really great, but also annoying way of editing where they'll give you three angles of one person's reaction. like it's so handy. Like someone could be in like a competition and instead of showing us the thing that's happening, they'll just show us someone who's watching and then they'll have that person give a reaction.

Eming (:

Like an anime?

Ray (:

Yeah, it's also very anime.

Eming (:

Like, ch -ch -ch -ch -ch -ch!

Marlin (:

And we'll get three angles of that one person's reaction to something we were watching. And it's like, if you want to see what just happened, watch the next episode.

Eming (:

So that's an anime, yeah.

Ray (:

Yeah, yeah. yeah. No, that's why I'm watching it now because we, yeah, we didn't want to engage in the cliffhangers that they try to do very often because it is a, it is a week by week show. So you'll finish an episode on like a cliffhanger of like who won the game and come back next week to find out. And like they'll show you in the first like three minutes of next week, but like there were many episodes and we were about to pause and we weren't going to watch any more that night, but.

Eming (:

That's annoying.

Marlin (:

man.

Eming (:

Mm -hmm.

Ray (:

We made sure to turn on the next episode for three minutes to see who won the game. And then, well, all right, we'll come back to this next one later. Yeah, it's funny. Their editing is very interesting. Their production period has a lot of really powerfully cool things and a lot of weird choices because it's still engagement at the end of the day. But it's really funny how good of a production they do. The games all look super cool.

Marlin (:

man.

Eming (:

Mm.

Ray (:

They clearly have a lot of budget from Netflix because they just got to build some cool rooms and there was a whole maze in the second season and just all sorts of cool stuff that they build for the themes and scenery and production designs and all this stuff that's just like, y 'all had a set team for sure. And they got to do whatever they wanted to do.

Eming (:

to its Netflix.

so -

Marlin (:

I mean, it's the dope show, but also pretty wide and like, hey, like, what body is the best body is kind of the whole point of the show. Like, hey, like, is it like is a power builder? Is that the best body? Is a CrossFit body the best body is an Olympic body? Or how about an influencer, a social actor, or maybe like a Navy SEAL or like the Korean equivalent?

Ray (:

Yes.

Yes.

Yeah, so sorry. I've talked a lot about this show and didn't explain at least the basic premise for you, of, yeah, they get a hundred people. They've all been mostly Koreans or people that live in Korea right now. and they all are athletic in some form or another, mostly because they're athletes. but a lot of, because they are bodybuilders or, fashion models that are really buff or.

Eming (:

Hehehehe

Ray (:

police officers or military personnel that are really buff. And so like there's a wide range of a bunch of people. The second season had a cosplayer in it that we were rooting for the whole time. And so like there was a lot of wide range of people that get involved. A couple of people, each season had like one black person and like one or two white folks.

Marlin (:

man, so close.

Yeah.

Ray (:

And it's still, it's mostly Korean. and they've had some celebrities and some bigger names, especially in the second one, they had some bigger names for Korea's standpoint. And so, but now this, so yeah, the, so that season came out, it was, it's, and they're just competing in games in each round. A bunch of them get eliminated because they're trying to get down to who has who, what's the most perfect physique or whatever, however, the translation. So the subtitles do it.

Marlin (:

Yeah.

Eming (:

Hmm. Hmm.

Ray (:

And they get given games by the Eye of Sauron and it is a big circle eyeball. And it's like contestants, your next quest was going to be this thing and it's just this eyeball like speaking to them. It's really funny. I said, it has a whole vibe. It's...

Marlin (:

much just big circle. It's like this big ring is like glowing and a big TV screen.

Eming (:

Wait, I'm sorry, what?

Marlin (:

Like, yeah, aiming no lie, if it was red colored, it would it's definitely because I it's blue. But if it was red and orange, it would definitely be like, wow, wow, wow.

Eming (:

that's weird.

Hahaha!

Ray (:

It's the Aesora. And when they lose, they like they come in and they all have trophies, like trophies, plaster shaped bust of their bodies. And as they lose, they have to break them with a sledgehammer. It's very, it's very dramatic in a lot of places. Yeah.

Eming (:

Where's the one ring?

god.

Marlin (:

like busts of their body.

because her body isn't the perfect body. You've got to destroy it. Yeah, it's like, hey, you lost, destroy your physique. You're like, okay. Well, the contestants are wholesome.

Eming (:

you

Ray (:

You have to do, yeah, it's very dramatic.

Eming (:

Are you serious?

This is wholesome. This doesn't sound wholesome.

Ray (:

Because the way that they look, the contestants are super wholesome. And there's dramatic moments of, you know, the men taking the little tanks off that they have them like all the time because they're and there's so you're right. There are some people that are typically intimidatingly strong. Just just looking at them and just like, my gosh, I you're you're a human being and I'm a human being. Holy moly.

Eming (:

Okay.

Marlin (:

Yeah.

No way. And Ray, did you watch season one or season two?

Ray (:

I watched the second half of season one a long time ago and I just watched the whole thing of season two like we just I just finished in the past week.

Marlin (:

yeah, for sure, for sure. But to your point, there's a guy this season called Korean Thanos, and it's very accurate. That man's body is ridiculous. It looks like someone, he looks like a JoJo Bizarre character just brought to life. His body has muscles that just don't make any physical sense.

Ray (:

Yes. Yeah.

He's his his don'ts his deltoids are like perfectly round

Marlin (:

So weird. It's like you were drawn and brought to life. Like an anime person drew you and you just stepped out of a manga. Like what the hell happened to your body?

Ray (:

Yeah, so wild. So yeah, yeah, yeah. No, these people look crazy.

Eming (:

That's funny.

Marlin (:

What?

build. And I will say I think after watching both seasons, I feel like they're are wholesome. I feel like season one had way more wholesome people in it. Maybe it's because they were like,

certain I feel like the first season had these female athletes that I think were like, really like, great, like they were kind, they were really awesome. This season also great, like I think female athletes, but I think at the first season, they just had this like group of girls who were just like, they were all like, Olympic wrestlers. And they were like, amazing. And they were funny. And they were hilarious. And the guys would like laugh with them. And I think after season one, the

Olympic athletes, the ladies brought the men to like come train with them and like, we're teaching you how to wrestle. And it's like these big burly men having to like wrestling lunges and their bodies are so awkward. They can't really bend like that. This is some great women, but I feel like it just wasn't as as memorable. But they still have a lot of like, hey, you can do it. Don't give up push through.

Ray (:

Yeah, just a lot of cheering on, a lot of helpful coaching, a lot of, and they, and they'd like use it to hype up moments. Sometimes I noticed that towards the end games, like there's, there was a group of the contestants that had been eliminated that they still had on camera, like watching in another room and helping with some of the commentary of the game. and, and they couldn't, the contestants couldn't hear anything they were saying.

Marlin (:

so much.

Ray (:

But when someone was getting close to like losing one of those challenges, they'd amp up a volume ticker that they had, because they did have a microphone in that room and they'd start playing the audio of people trying to cheer them on because they were about to lose. And I was like, this is super cool how y 'all have set this up to like, and you see them like react to like, my gosh, I can hear them. They're trying to like, and so, you know, they hold in there a little bit longer, even though they're about to lose. Like it gets the drama of the moment up. They've done a...

Eming (:

Mmm. Mmm.

Mm.

Mm.

Ray (:

like these reality TV shows, they have to edit in a way that makes it interesting and they at least don't like falsify it. They do a lot of those little repeat things that it's a little weird. and every once in a while they'll do like a cut where like, you can't actually see. They're like, it's the end of a race or something. If I use a race as an example, you can't actually see how far apart the two people are because they won't show the overhead shot.

Eming (:

Mmm.

Marlin (:

Huh? Huh?

Ray (:

of how far apart are they actually, but they'll show two shots of them running. And then when they show the winning moment, you'll see, actually they were very far apart. They were nowhere close. If you just started with that, there would be no drama here. So there's some editing choices like that that they have to do because it's a reality TV show. And I think, Marlon, something that I noticed in the second season was that they had less moments where all the...

Marlin (:

That person was nowhere close.

Ray (:

eliminated contestants were sitting around watching and talking and stuff. It was a lot more of the games and so I think that was another reason probably why you feel that way of like there was less you saw less of the contestants in the second season and more of the action and the games. Yeah.

Marlin (:

Yeah!

there was way less team time. Like I think in the first season, like whenever a game wasn't happening, they went to like the break room and like they would talk about food like, I love like eating egg whites only and like I love eating whole chicken. Like they had a whole like break room where they were like chat in between every episode. They had a lot more sit down time. So this season is like, like you can only talk during the game and then after that great next game. So it just felt like they're like a lot more on script.

Ray (:

Yeah.

And they started doing it more towards the end of the season, but the beginning of it had very little of it.

Marlin (:

Yeah, and I mean, to give you like a whole thing, like, as you can imagine, 100 people is a lot of people to have. And it's a lot of weeding away. And I think there are only I think what nine or 10 episodes a season. And so what they wind up. Yeah, the first game is like always something like. Close. Yeah.

Eming (:

Mm -hmm.

Ray (:

Yeah. So like the first game eliminates like 50 people.

Eming (:

Mmm.

So it's like squid game then, a little bit. Did you guys watch the real version of that on Netflix? Okay. Did we talk about it?

Ray (:

It's actually the closest thing you get to Squid Game, yes.

Marlin (:

I did. It was okay.

Ray (:

He did.

Marlin (:

It was honestly wasn't worth chatting. It felt like Big Brother in a way of like this is just Big Brother like with like but it's like it's Big Brother with like squid game skin. But we know what this is. It's not really that it's it's fine. It's fine. But no, the 100 though is what you want to watch because like I'm here in season one. The first game was great. Everyone's like shooting off their like crazy strong bodies. Season one I think had a lot more bodybuilders and the first game the season one was great.

Ray (:

us.

Eming (:

Mm.

Marlin (:

everyone hang from these monkey bars for as long as you can. And the big guys were like, no. Because like all these people were like, wow, man, I don't know how we're gonna do this. Like everyone's so strong. It's like, nevermind. We definitely got this. Season one. I think it was a it was a cyclist. Because so a cyclist on season one and an Olympic cyclist who had these

Eming (:

god no.

Ray (:

Hehehehehe

Eming (:

Yeah.

So who won season one? Like what kind of body won season one?

Ray (:

man.

That's right, the cyclists.

Marlin (:

crazy fit quads just like because I think the last game they had to like pull this rope and it's just like you're yanking it and yanking it and yanking it and yanking it for like just hours just pulling the rope to see who can get to the end of it they're just like yanking and yanking and yanking it but that was crazy because like they're just like it was him versus some other guy and they were just pulling sweat it's like every contest is hard and it's always I think like it always favors a certain body type.

Ray (:

Frazee, yes.

Eming (:

Heheheheh

Marlin (:

Like the first round favored people who had like stronger core. So if you were a full like big up top bodybuilder, your core probably wasn't going to be that strong. So they were dropping first. Like the big guys were dropping lifting right fast as possible. They were out and out and out. And the more like CrossFitters were kind of like holding on and the rock climbers were holding on. But then a couple of challenges go by. Great. Now we're going to have straight up one -on -one wrestling matches. And it's like, now the big guys are going to take this.

Eming (:

Bye.

Mm -hmm.

Yeah.

Ray (:

Yeah, that and the people that had people that had technique. that was always fun to see when somebody was like, like, yeah, there's like MMA fighters involved. And so they're doing this thing and like, I know how to hold people in submission so I can just hold this person down. They, this is just a, there was one really good game of like a wrestle for the ball kind of thing where, yeah, the guy was the black guy was physically stronger in every way.

Marlin (:

MMA fighters.

Ray (:

than the other guy, but the other guy was an MMA fighter, so he had a lot of technique. And so he managed to win that game despite like the other, if he, if the other guy had even a sense of technique, he might've taken it. Like it was very close. So, and it was, yeah. So anytime that happened was really cool. And yeah, just seeing how, yeah, when they get to just the full strength competitions, like they...

Eming (:

Mm -hmm.

Hmm.

Ray (:

they start, like you have to just be able to lift sandbags, like, and heavy sandbags too. And like, if you can't do it, you are just not moving on to the next round. Like, so it's tough. You gotta, you do have to have a little bit of both, but if you adjust muscle, you're not going to get to the end, but.

Marlin (:

Yeah.

Eming (:

Hmm. Hmm.

Marlin (:

Yeah.

I mean, it means...

It's a horror. I think to give you an example, there was one young lady who had gotten through all the challenges in season one. And I think maybe the third to last episode, and she was, she wasn't like small, but she was kind of like not as hefty. The last one of the content was like, great, we want one of your, it was like Atlas. It was an Atlas challenge. There was a Sisyphus challenge and there was like a third like Greek challenge. But they put her on the Atlas one and you have to take this boulder.

Eming (:

Mm.

Marlin (:

and physically just put it on your back and hold it and home girl as hard as she could try, couldn't get it off the ground onto her back. Like she was trying and she was just like, she couldn't get it off. She was like, couldn't physically lift it. She tried to squat and get it. She tried to like lay on her back and like roll. It just wasn't happening. And she got DQ'd within 10 seconds. Hey, listen, you, you physically can't do it. You're out. Meanwhile, another guy.

Eming (:

Wow.

Marlin (:

who like, so I was like, yeah, I lift cars for a living. He gets that competition and is holding the boulder one hand up, one hand down. And it's like, and just switches arms back and forth like, great, I'm good. I got it. Just hold it. I'm like, just hold it. No sweat. Win the contest. And it's like, great. This was made for someone like you who just lifts heavy things. No sweat off your back. You're good to go.

Ray (:

Sure.

Eming (:

Hmm. Hmm. So is so do you think the game is designed for like certain types in mind or do you think it's more like if you're lucky, you're lucky?

Marlin (:

I think season two, it definitely changed. I think season two changed a lot. Season one had content like the bolder one. That one was very much only one type of person can win this.

Ray (:

Hmm.

Eming (:

Mm -hmm.

Ray (:

And they and they and they'll do these things that game was also like Everyone was on a team and you and every team member can't there's like four options and you have to put one person on your team into one of the four options and so that team kind of screws that girl over because Or maybe she thought she could do it. I can't remember but

Eming (:

Right.

Marlin (:

for our team game, yeah.

Eming (:

Right.

Marlin (:

I need to screw it over because it's like, great. If you lose it, you're out. The team's not out. I'm like, well, we're all going to pick these things that we can do good at. And it was like, great. You've been voted.

Ray (:

I can't remember how that worked. Yeah. So like it was just, yeah, I don't remember how she ended up in that spot because she had other options, but maybe she didn't think she could do well at the other ones and she thought she could do that one and just couldn't.

Marlin (:

What's also the hard part is that like at a certain point they do kind of like schoolyard rules like great like you're all going to vote for five or 10 captains and these captains are going to start picking you like schoolyard playground rules and of course if you're like person number one you're picking every strong person you can get and there are some teams that are just stacked with great players and then like the last four teams are like great here are the smaller unfortunately.

Ray (:

That was fun.

Marlin (:

more female players and it's like this is kind of messed up like all women are going on this one team because all the men don't want them on their team and so season one that was no season two they fixed it season one they were two all -women teams because the men didn't want to pick any of them and so I think season two there must have been a rule because I was like wow they really did a better job of spreading them out but season one the men were very vocal like I'm not picking your girl.

Ray (:

No, they got spread out already.

I see. So they got better this time.

Marlin (:

And like they said it out loud, like, Hey, I need someone stronger. I'm not picking a woman. And I think maybe one woman was a captain and she made a point to get mostly women on her team. She's like, we're like just as strong as they are. Like I want to prove a point, but like season one, they were notorious. Like we're not getting any of these women on our team, but like at that point, they're like, you're trying to like, and then also once you get that team picked out, then the teams get to pick who they play against. And so the strong teams are great. I want to play the weak team in this next competition.

Eming (:

Wow.

Ray (:

Yeah.

Eming (:

Mm -hmm.

Marlin (:

Cause I know I can beat them. So it's kind of like, this is getting real, real cut throat here.

Eming (:

Mm.

Ray (:

Yeah, they, they got a lot better with the games and stuff in season two. It wasn't as, it wasn't as dramatic in that stuff. I actually liked the amount of team play they had. And so, and it was, it made for in the end when there weren't any teams anymore. Cause like, you got to stop doing that. If only one person is going to win eventually. it was when they were cheering each other on, it was the people that were on the team, usually doing the cheering on for the person who needed to be cheered on. Cause they had.

Marlin (:

yes.

Eming (:

Wait.

Ray (:

They had built some team camaraderie up over some time. So that was fun to see. There's a lot of wholesomeness in this show.

Marlin (:

What was your favorite competition, Ray?

Ray (:

no, yeah, so, I...

Marlin (:

out of either season one or season two.

Ray (:

I think the one that made me feel the most legend of Hent Temple was the one in... Yeah, because it was just like watching those old game shows like that. It's just the... Yeah, the maze, basically. It was a four -on -four team thing where they had to... There was a bunch of sandboxes in the middle of a literal maze, see what I mean?

Eming (:

That's how your bar

Marlin (:

It literally... The maze?

With sandbags? Yeah, that was so hidden temple.

Eming (:

Mm -hmm.

Ray (:

And they had to just go back and forth. It was a video game, basically, taking sandbags to three different positions. And the team who controlled two of those positions at the end of the game with the highest weight in their bags won that game. And that team moved on and the other team got eliminated. And I was like, this is just Legend of the Hidden Temple. They're literally like pushing each other in the hallways, trying to keep them from getting into the thing. It was...

Eming (:

Okay.

Marlin (:

Is that wrong?

Eming (:

Did you watch the new one?

Ray (:

No, I didn't. But like, it's just these game shows. There's these goofy things. This is much better, apparently.

Eming (:

It's not good.

Marlin (:

God, that was so funny when they were like, great, just spiting people in the hallway. I was like, what are y 'all doing?

Ray (:

Yeah, then they started fighting each other. It was it was wild. And then and they at half of the time, I think some of the funniest moments are when like they're saying sorry while they're kind of fighting each other because because they like because they're still being very wholesome. But they're like, but I'm playing the game and I have to hold you. So like, I'm sorry I'm holding you like this, but.

Eming (:

That sounds chaotic.

Marlin (:

It was like, forget getting sandbags, just block them.

Eming (:

Grrrr

Marlin (:

god, yes.

So polite.

I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.

Ray (:

I'm physically like a hundred pounds heavier than you, so you just can't go anywhere. But you know, it was really funny.

Marlin (:

And if they're older, they're like saying like, sorry, and then using like the name for like, uncle or like, sorry, like older individuals. It's like so respectful, but it's like, I want to win and I have to hold you here. I am very sorry. Dang. I liked that a lot. I think for me, the one I liked a lot was season one. They had them, they had them pull a boat across sand.

Eming (:

Hehehe

Ray (:

Yep. And I'm very sorry about this. It is.

Eming (:

It's actually kind of cute.

Marlin (:

and then try to tie it to the other end of a ramp. It was the most stressful and wildest physical competition I've ever seen. Like it's like, I think it's a team of like what two, four, six, like 10 people. And the boat is in the sand and they have to get these logs and like using rope, pull the boat on top of the logs and then slide the boat across like I think four logs.

across like a football field and then get it up a ramp on the other side and then tie it to like a thing. And just to watch these people who are all so strong struggle so hard, like people who are like muscle barters, like turning red in the face, they're just like sweat pouring from their bodies. They're just like dripping sweat across the sand. And they're like, we can't give up. We gotta keep going. Three, two, one.

three, two, one, and it's like, go team, go. And then when they get to the end and everyone just collapses onto the ground and this is breathing so heavy. It's like, Jesus, this is like, I think they changed it because like that might've been too much for people to do. But when they, when they said move a boat, I'm like, interesting. And they had to put things on the boat in order to like that. Great.

Ray (:

Sure.

Marlin (:

put all these barrels on the boat first and then move it across the thing. And I'm like, y 'all, you're gonna kill somebody. This is way too much work. But they did it. I think every team pulled it off. Even the team that unfortunately was like full of people who were underweight. Like there was one team that went last or they at least shot them last. And you could tell like, y 'all are not gonna make this happen. Y 'all are way too small for this. But they got on the thing.

Ray (:

Good show good time Apparently next season they're gonna get another season and next time they're going to Expand out to all of Asia, so that'll be interesting to see See a huge I was also asking that question as I was watching season 2 of like can they keep this up with just?

Marlin (:

We got it.

Yeah!

I think.

Ray (:

with just Korean citizens like are people that live in Korea.

Marlin (:

That's the thing though, people are wondering like, yo, like, is it fair that you're only keeping it to this community? Like if you really want to show who has like the best body, why not widen it up because you only allow one black guy and one white guy to be in this competition. So it's like, is that really fair? You get one brother and like, cool, this guy didn't make the cut. So sorry. So let's open it up. Let's just open it up.

Ray (:

That's just a yeah, it'll be interesting to see more of that but

Marlin (:

Even though this season two, this like, I think that white guy was in Cole or someone, he made it pretty far. He made it farther than any other white guys made it. So I was surprised by that honestly. Justin and they repeated his full name every single time. Justin Hartman, just call him Justin. Why don't you call them Justin Hartman?

Ray (:

Justin Harvey, I think was his name. His Korean.

His Korean wasn't bad.

Marlin (:

It was pretty good. He was a I think he was an actor and what was that movie? It was like a fight. It was like a Korean fighting movie that he was in as like white body or white thug number four or something like that.

Ray (:

started.

Marlin (:

But yeah.

Eming (:

White thug number four.

Marlin (:

Hey, get that paycheck. Yeah, get that paycheck. But yeah, if you haven't seen it, definitely check it out. It's really fun. And you'll find yourself, you know, if you were watching with a bunch of people, it's super hype because you pick a person you think is going to be the best person, you know, you might get your heart broken or you might see that person come out on top.

Ray (:

Yep.

Eming (:

Hmm.

Cool, well thank you for that. I feel like I lived it a little bit. But, so do we wanna do the Bad Batch or Drake and Kendrick? Which way do you guys wanna go?

Marlin (:

I'll step in here. I'll take a big swing at this. So if you've been on the internet for the past month and three weeks, you may be familiar with the Drake Kendrick Lamar feud. You can also check out their fully curated and updated Wikipedia page that literally is about the Drake and Kendrick feud, which just shows yet look at right now Wikipedia has an entire page.

Ray (:

You're welcome.

Eming (:

You

Ray (:

I...

Marlin (:

devoted to this beef. Someone was like, this is worth noting historically that this happened. It was honestly the most fun that I've had with a diss record and a very, a diss entirely. It was enjoyable, it was cutthroat, and it was disrespectful.

Ray (:

cutthroat. They're kicking each other in the balls basically.

Marlin (:

yeah, I mean, I'll tell you this right now. I mean, Kendrick Lamar is the boogeyman for a reason. And he, he said some things that I think even Camille was like, why would he tell him that? It was great. And of course, started off with a very small, a small thing. It wasn't even big, you know, J Cole and Drake were on first person shooter. And it was a compliment. Hey, me, J Cole.

Drake and KiddlesGlamour are the big three of hip hop. It was a compliment. It was put out there. We're the best. This was J. Cole. He was like, hey, me and Drake, we're all the, we're the, we're the big three of hip hop. And we're, we're, we're the, we're the best people out there. Apparently, KiddlesGlamour did not like that. And he wanted to let people know.

Ray (:

Who said this?

Got it.

Marlin (:

that, hey, fuck this big three nonsense. I'm the best. It's just big me. Who told you all that? J Cole assuming, Hey, this is probably a fun dis. Let me, let me hop on there. You know, let me say some fun. Let me dis Kage of Glamour back. Seven minute drill. And then people are hypothesizing that the Kage of Glamour text Drake or calling and let him know, hey,

You don't want this because promptly after J. Cole released his like fun little disc to Kendrick, he immediately apologized and removed it from all streaming services. Just said, Hey, my bad. Take it off the internet. Take it off the internet. No one should hear or see this. I, J. Cole, apologize. Didn't mean it. So sorry, Kendrick. I'm a big fan. Big fan. My bad. My bad. Drake though is like, no, no.

do it. You know, make me it was it was me and make mail me and push a T I jump into a whole new this he drops push ups and Taylor made freestyle where he you know, on push ups he makes fun of Kendrick for being short for having a size seven men shoe.

It's a lot of short jokes, throwing a Kendrick's way. And then he, and it's like, hey, right? You know, he hands that, hey, like, maybe you didn't write your own music. Maybe you also have a ghostwriter. Talks about, hey, you did a song with Taylor Swift. Side note, so did Drake. But anyway, he makes sense. He's like, hey, you did a song with Taylor Swift. Are you really about the culture? Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. The most egregious thing he did was on Taylor Made, he used AI.

Ray (:

Yeah, I mean, she was keeping it above the belt for a little while there.

Marlin (:

to have Tupac on the song. It was a very bad AI of Tupac. And it makes it even worse, he had an AI of Snoop Dogg. Now, if you're listening to this, as of May 12, 2024, Snoop Dogg is still living. So folks were like, what is he doing, AI'd? Do you not wanna ask him to be on your song? Barely not, barely not. Also, Tupac the state.

threatened Drake with legal action and he had to remove Taylor May because they're like, Tupac would not want to be on your terrible song, get him off. No, thank you. Now, Kendall Lamar responds at 616 on April 30 with 616 in LA and just lets him know, hey, you don't want to bother continuing this beef. You're a bad rapper. You

are only a pop star. You're not really about rap life. You do pop music, stick to pop music. I like your pop music. You're also kind of a bad dad. So maybe you should go raise your kid. If you want to keep this disc going, it's not going to be what you want it to be. So you should probably just stop. This is my last warning to you. Drake is like, no, I got some stuff. He drops Family Matters, where he decides to go gung ho.

And he accuses kids Lamar of domestically abusing his wife and alleging that one of kids Lamar's children was fathered by his friend day free. And it's like going in on, Hey, your kids, not yours. You're also a bad dad. is it domestic violence? If you hit your wife, if she's taller than you because you're short, a ton more short jokes, which everyone's like, can you not like you, we get it. He's a small man, but like, you gotta have something better than him being short.

a long time, you know, some, some, some time goes by and we, and by time, I mean less than an hour after he released his family matters. I'm sorry. In less than 20 minutes after Drake drops family matters, Kendrick drops meet the grams where he makes good on his promise to Drake of taking it further. he accuses Drake of sex trafficking and of being a sexual predator and a fathering.

another secret child on top of that. And then he decides, you know what, I'm gonna go even further on meet the grams. The first line of that song aiming goes like this. Dear Adonis, I'm sorry that that man is your father. And that's what I knew this was going to be the most disrespectful song that I have ever heard Kendrick.

decides just to write a sonnet for this for Adonis Drake's son and just tells him you're bad to that your dad's terrible. He's a bad father. You deserve a better father. Hey, I can be your mentor if you want someone to show you how to be a man because you have no good role models in your life. It's a shame how he treated your mother like he didn't like her and didn't respect her and tried to hide you. That sucks doesn't it? Listen, if you grow up, be a better man than your father did.

Be a black man, because guess what? No matter how light skinned you are, you're still a black man. Also, don't be black when it benefits you, like your father. Just be a black man at the end of the day. And then evening gets worse. The next verse is, Dear Sandra, his mom, you raised a terrible child. You raised a terrible son. Isn't it terrible that as a woman he's out here abusing other women? That must suck. Dear Dennis, his father.

Eming (:

No. No.

Marlin (:

Your son is terrible because of you. You raise a terrible, his words, a terrible fucking person. Just straight up, not a diss, just a straight observation. You raise a terrible fucking person. It's your fault. You did this, your son got your gambling habits. He got the way he treats women from you. Also, is it true, Dennis, that he pays you to be around him because you weren't around him when he was raising?

Eming (:

So.

Marlin (:

when his mom had to raise him by himself and he only needs you because you're black and he needs a black person around him to show that, hey, I'm black as my dad, Dennis, that's also your problem.

Eming (:

So that's a lot. So this this stems from a song that was a general song that was supposed to be a compliment that became this.

Marlin (:

It is a lot.

literally everyone and I also was like, I thought this was a compliment. I thought he was just saying, Hey, we're all we're the top three rappers of the game.

Ray (:

Well, and the person that said it, the person that said it hasn't been involved for a while, so it's not about that at all.

Eming (:

Hmm.

Marlin (:

It was, it was wild. It was, it was, yeah, it started with like Drake, Jake hole dipped his toe in the water and then through either his sixth sense or something. He quickly, it was like, wait, actually, you know what I said, you know what a storm's coming. I'm not involved in this. I'm not involved in this at all. It was worse. What's worse.

Ray (:

As Jake Cole said, I'm out a long time ago.

He was like, let's have some fun guys. And they're like, hey, wait, hold on. That's not fun.

Don't say my name. Yeah.

Eming (:

His spidey senses were tingling.

Marlin (:

Amy, what's worse that the internet was clowning J. Cole like, J. Cole gave up. What a wussy. Fast forward to this week, everyone's like, J. Cole, you made the right decision. We're all sorry for clowning you. Knowing what we know now, you made the best decision any grown man could have made because this got way too messy, way too fast. We respect that you decided to step out like, I'm done. I'm not gonna be a part of this.

Ray (:

Of course, of course he did.

Yep. So yeah, it is.

Marlin (:

Because Meet the Grams was bad, y 'all. It was so bad. And also, important to know, for a good amount of time, it's like rapy rap stuff, you know, the rapping over beats, you know, it's very like, you know, hip hoppy. Meet the Grams, it's a single piano playing it. And it sounds like, it sounds like an A24, like something bad's about to happen, like murder chord, just like, dun, dun, dun, dun.

and kid is just talking. He's just spoken poetry, just speaking, just, hey, never code switch. Whether right or wrong, you're a black man. Even if it don't benefit your goals, you're a black man. Also, do some pushups, get some discipline. Don't cut corners like your daddy did. Don't fuck with those Zempik. Don't play with those Brazilians. Get a gym membership.

Don't have a kid to hide a kid to hide a kid again

It's like, Catric, let this man breathe. Stop it. You're being so mean. This is the first time everyone's, I think this is the first time that I was like, this is mean. This is a mean song.

Eming (:

What did Drake do to him? Like what? What? What?

Marlin (:

Drake said he beat his wife and he was like, we're gonna, he told him, if you take it far, Drake, I will go farther. He at least was like, I'm gonna give you a warning right now. My lick back is gonna be overboard. My lick back is gonna be way too much. And this song was just like, it was so, it was so mean. Like he literally, I think, let's see, the worst one, here we go. Hey.

Eming (:

should have known better.

Marlin (:

You raised a horrible fucking person. The nerve of you, Dennis. Sandra, sit down. What I'm about to say is heavy. Now listen, your son is a sick man with sick thoughts. I think people like him should die.

Eming (:

Jesus.

Marlin (:

That is a full verse. I think people like him should die. He further adds, fuck a rap battle. He should die so all these women can live with a purpose.

Eming (:

Ow.

Marlin (:

We got to raise our daughters knowing there's a predator like him lurking.

Eming (:

Did Drake respond to that at all? To that part?

Marlin (:

This is bad.

No, I mean, he didn't have time because after he dropped Meet the Grams, he, Kendrick Lamar then decided, I'm sorry, also, important note, in Meet the Grams, he has another verse to his apparent other secret child who's an 11 -year -old girl, and he's like, hey, dear baby girl, I'm sorry your father's not with you, and he's not being with you at all. He's a narcissist and he's terrible.

He also sleeps with women and Turks and Caicos and pays for sex. He's a terrible dad. History repeats itself. He's a deadbeat. I'm so sorry. On the heels of that, he drops another song called Not Like Us. Now mind you, what's important is that Not Like Us has an image on the song, even. And it's an image of Drake's mansion called the embassy, just an image of his mansion. On the image, there are red dots, just like on top of the mansion.

Eming (:

Mm -hmm.

Marlin (:

And when people were like what the red dots mean, they discovered that that is signified that there's a child predator in the area. And when you look at the color coding, red means sexual violence. There are 13 to 14 red dots on Drake's house, meaning he has 13 or 14 men he pays to be around him that are sexual criminals that live or reside in his mansion. That was the screen.

image for the song not like us. That's off the rip. Like, hey, you're a predator and your entire group is dangerous. Here's a here's a neighborhood watch image of why you're all dangerous. Have you told the neighbors?

Eming (:

So they're registered. So these men live there. That's why there's the dots.

Marlin (:

Now mind you, one of Drake's fans, and Drake himself, liked to say that Kendrick doesn't release any fun dance music. Like, hey, you don't have any fun dance music, Kendrick. All your music sounds like you're trying to free the slaves. It sounds boring. So Drake got what he wanted. Kendrick drops a song called Not Like Us, produced by DJ Mustard, who is known for West Coast hip hop music. And he produces the summer anthem.

No Nez Not Like Us, which is the most fun diss song. It reminds me of Hit Up, but Tupac, well, this is a fun little like record here. It is also incredibly disrespectful as well. I'm gonna just give you some lyrics here just so you can get them because they also, they also weren't great. Here we go. Here we go.

Eming (:

Sure, bring it on. Let's go.

Marlin (:

hey, say Drake, I hear you like I'm young is a

Eming (:

That's not a good start.

Marlin (:

It's this great, another great line, certified lover boy? No, certified pedophile. And then of course, why are you trolling like a bitch? Ain't you tired? Trying to start record. It's probably a minor.

Ray (:

It's a great start, what do you mean?

Eming (:

I heard this one, I heard this one.

Ray (:

I did laugh at that one when I heard it for the first time. Like you said, the beat on this one is kind of fun. Yeah, it's very good.

Marlin (:

Pfft. Pfft.

It was such a good diss! It's probably a minor!

God, it's so good. my goodness. God. It just, again, it's a really fun, it's so fun and it's so disrespectful and mean and just like we're dancing, we're having fun and we're just calling men a pedophile. Hey, you're probably a registered sex offender. Goodness gracious. It's just, it's just all bad. It's just like, and then he of course talks about the biggest is verse three.

We decide, you know what, listen, I gave you all that fun stuff. Let me at least give you a verse that is true to me. And he explains to people, here's why Drake is a bad person. He doesn't have his own sound. He goes to places like Atlanta and he steals other people's sounds. So he talks about future little baby 21 thug, Quavo two chains and says, you've gone to all these people and you've stolen their sounds from them.

to make yourself feel or appear like you're a part of the culture. And he goes on to say, you're not a colleague, you're a fucking colonizer.

Yes, that was everyone's reaction of like, shit. That was, that was, that was a lot. Cause like, cause it's true. Like Drake has changed his sound up a bunch of times. And it's important to note that when Drake was cool with someone like little Wayne, little Wayne's advice to Drake was be yourself. Don't try to be me little Wayne. I'm from the streets. I have shot and killed people before I can rap about that. That's my life. You were born and raised in a very well to do.

Eming (:

That's fair.

Marlin (:

Canadian Toronto neighborhood, you should probably do what you do. Drake didn't take that advice. And now here we are with him getting diss tracked all over the place. And mind you, I felt like, not like us was the devil in the coffin for me. I thought it was great. It's over, it's done. Mind you, an earlier diss that Drake put out, he dissed someone else who has been, who was relatively quiet.

Eming (:

Hey.

Marlin (:

for the entire diss. And he had dissed someone named Metro Booming and said, Metro, shut your whole ass up and make some drums. Now, Metro had been quiet for a good chunk of the diss. But then all of a sudden, Metro picked the perfect time, maybe in connection and planning with Kendrick, to release a song called BBL Drizzy. Because Drake has a BBL. And...

On it, it's like this old jam, just, if you could give me a second, Amy, it goes like, BBL Driesie, BBL Driesie. And that's just, it's an instrumental. There's no other person on it. It's just like a three minute instrumental, which is the first time that someone has ever released a diss instrumental in a diss rap at all. And then Metro decided to double up and to listen. Not only am I going to put this out there,

Eming (:

Mm -hmm.

Marlin (:

Whoever has the best, like, rap over my beat, I will give them another free beat for free. I'm a huge artist, meaning anyone from a regular home artist to an amateur, if you get on this beat, I will give you another free beat. I promise this to you. So many people joined, I mean, there is a merengue version of this song. There was a Japanese artist who just, in full Japanese, was rapping over this.

I knew none of the words except for Drake. And he said like four or five times. And I was like, Drake, fight back. Fight back Drake. People in Japan are roasting you right now. They're calling you a pedophile in Tokyo. You gotta fight back. And then at some point Metro was like, okay, listen, I've gotten a lot of people to submit stuff. It's gotten so big. I'm gonna up the challenge. Best verse gets a free beat and $10 ,000.

Ray (:

He was, cause it was, everyone was dissing him.

Eming (:

So...

no. God. no.

Marlin (:

second place will get a free beat. So now more people are rapping over this beat who are all acknowledging again that Drake has a BBL and he's a pedophile and he's a bad person. It has now grown exponentially across the world. Drake to his credit decided to come back with the last diss of the of the diss fight and it was received with

the most lackluster fanfare I've ever seen. I mean, even people who were, it was called The Heart Part 6. Even people who are Drake fans were like, he didn't need to do this one. He didn't need to do this one. It was, cause in it, he tries to say, hey, I planned all this, all those, I tricked you into thinking I was a pedophile. That's not true.

Eming (:

What was it called?

I've never even heard it mentioned.

Marlin (:

I just, I gave you fake information to make you think I was a pedophile and to make you think that I have another child and to make you think that I'm a sexual predator. I was, I was just, that was all a ploy and I got you Kendrick. Ha ha ha, joke's on you. You've been fooled by Drizzy Drake.

Even your face is the face everyone on the internet had of like, are you fucking kidding me? You tricked him into saying you were a pedophile? How does that help you, Drake? How does any of what he said help you in the overall?

Eming (:

I'm so confused.

Okay, so what does this mean now? Like what, is it just like, it's over? It's done?

Ray (:

It's been radio silence for like a week.

Marlin (:

What here's what happened. Drake on this last song did this little outro where he was like, let me read you the first line of his outro of his last song. Yeah, not gonna lie. This shit was some good exercise. Like it's good to get out and get the pen work. You would be a worthy competitor if I was really your predator.

And then Kendrick didn't even respond and then Drake at this point I think everyone was like Kendrick this is this this man through this man through the towel by literally saying all right I'm done I won though, but I am done and I tricked you so this is over now I won Okay, everybody. I'm gonna go. I gotta go to Turks and Caicos. I have and then Drake went and went on a vacation. I

Eming (:

He doesn't need to. He doesn't need to. my god.

Marlin (:

I haven't said anything. It's on the house.

Eming (:

and sold his house in LA.

Marlin (:

and to this day, to this moment, Not Like Us and BBL Drizzy are going crazy. It got so big and also it's worth knowing that Kendrick is a independent artist. So he made sure that with most artists, if you use a song, you can get the sound muted. He was like, no, no, I want everyone to use this song. And so it is public domain. So it is being shared. Corporations are using it. Not Like Us is being played in like some informational videos.

BBL Drizzy was used by Duolingo. And the Duolingo Owl was like backing it up to BBL Drizzy. Oscar Mayer, the Hot Dog Company did a poster of BBL Glizzy. And because the New York Hot Dog is called Glizzy. So literally, it's gotten that big to where corporations are now getting in on it. And

Ray (:

I didn't see that.

Eming (:

I saw that but I didn't understand what they were talking about. Okay, now this makes sense.

Marlin (:

Kendrick is like, I want this to spread. All his songs, he also did another song and in his diss, I believe, Euphoria, he basically says, he says to Drake, I hate the way that you walk, I hate the way that you talk, I hate how you dress, I hate you. And that verse was used, again, Doolingo, I don't know who manages Doolingo, Doolingo has been using and stitching every sound of this beef, but they've been like, they've directed that beef.

to like the Babble Bear of like, I hate the way it's you. Where Babble is another language app. And I'm like, whoa, even the language apps to get down to the beef. Just fuck you Babble. It's the lingo over here.

Eming (:

Okay, so I guess my question is like is Drake done like as it like can he Can you come back from this kind of thing? I know it's kind of dumb, but is it like What happens now?

Ray (:

the causality of this matter.

Marlin (:

here's the thing.

Here's the thing. What happened that I think is interesting is that no one came to Drake's defense in the rap community. Like everyone stayed silent. What people did see was that a lot of folks were champion Kendrick. Like, like there are folks who were like playing not like us at their sets. So like Rick Ross played not like us out loud at a house party he was playing. another DJ and I think Atlanta played it over a loud speaker.

when they were like getting ready for like a show and the crowd got hyped for it. So like other people in the industry are vibing with Kendrick. And what we're seeing is, what people are predicting is a resistance to Drake getting further into hip hop. Mind you, Drake is still one of the most paid artists out there. But I think this is probably gonna be a reminder to Drake, like, yo, just stick to your pop music. Like when you were a pop artist, like no one was, you know.

Eming (:

Mm -hmm.

Marlin (:

coming at you because that was your whole, like your realm was pop music. That's what we know you for. When you first got hot, you were kind of a pop star and now you're trying to be this like hardcore, I wear bulletproof vests and I wear bandanas and I'm a gangster. It's like, Drake, we all watch the grassy bro. That ain't you. We all watch the grassy bro. We saw the behind the scenes. We saw the behind the scenes of you and that, we know what your voice sounds like.

Eming (:

We all watched a grassy.

Ray (:

Thank you.

Marlin (:

Come on, Aubrey. What you doing, Aubrey? What you doing out here in these streets? Cut it out.

Eming (:

I remember seeing him on MTV after watching Degrassi and I'm like, wait, what happened? Why aren't you in your wheelchair?

Marlin (:

Wheelchair GV!

Eming (:

Well, he was sitting down too. I was like, wait, are you, are you being you? Are you being your character? Who are you being right now? That's...

Ray (:

Who are you?

Marlin (:

I mean, Kendrick is saying Drake's a great actor and that this is a great character he's playing him playing Drake, the rapper. It's a great role. It's a great role, but it's not really him. It's not true. But everyone says across the board from, I think, Complex, the Ringer, Rolling Stones. Everyone does great. Kendrick won this one hands down. His song, Now Like Us was top 10 in Australia, Lithuania.

Eming (:

wow.

Marlin (:

New Zealand, the UK, it spread worldwide.

Eming (:

I remember seeing Drake post snippets of movies of like, I'm gonna come after all of you. And I'm like, not understanding, I was waiting for him to do something. Like, okay, he's gonna do something that's gonna like, because he's saying it and he's using these memes to do that. I figured he was gonna come out with a thing that would change this conversation.

Marlin (:

No.

Drake's big on meme culture. Like his whole thing is memes. And so that's, I think people are like, Hey, like you're a, you're a computer. You're like an internet troll kind of guy. Like you're really good at being tough behind a keyboard, but like, you should know that when you were doing the grassy, Kenjic was in Compton, LA fighting in the streets. Like this is a man who I think at some point someone like he recorded himself doing burpees.

Eming (:

Mm.

Yeah.

Marlin (:

in jeans and a sweater in a public park in Compton that had like metal monkey bars and he was listening to like 70s Al Green and everyone's like why would you pick a fight with this man? This man is doing physical activity in a sweater in the summer in Compton on asphalt. What are you doing, Drake? This is a different person entirely.

Eming (:

Poor Drake. I feel a little bad for him.

Marlin (:

But yeah, check out the Drake, Kenneth Lamar Feud page on Wikipedia if you want to get a good diss. Whoever did this Wikipedia page, like really laid, they have an analysis, they have a verdict, they have a full song, chronology, they have all related songs. Like this person went in on Wikipedia to like, this is historical. Mm -hmm.

Eming (:

I'm freaked out!

Ray (:

Very good. Document it well.

Eming (:

I will check it out. Sounds like a good late night read.

Marlin (:

telling you, you're gonna have a good time with it. And that, my friends, is the Kijik Lamar and Drake Beef.

Eming (:

Thank you, Marlin. I didn't know I needed that in my life, but thank you.

Ray (:

some some slightly less than 40 year old men just throwing gutting at each other but like you know they're not not in the 90s where they might have just went out and shot each other but so just that's how things used to be.

Marlin (:

I loved it.

Yes.

True, there wasn't any fear of like violence. It's just like, that's kind of me with like, with two pox hit him up. It's like, he might shoot him. Like he might actually go and shoot this man said, my fo fo make sure all your kids are growing. I was like, that's, that's a threat. That's an actual verifiable threat you made to get this man's children.

Ray (:

dang.

Yeah.

Eming (:

Do they like not just have just infinite time on their hands to be just like these like beefs? Okay, I mean it makes money so I get it. It's a business but poor Drake.

Ray (:

I assume so.

Marlin (:

Apparently.

Yeah, someone's album's gonna get big numbers.

Ray (:

It was a lot of it. It was some crazy short term Spotify numbers for sure. Like every time they, every time they dissed each other, they made at least a couple thousand. They had to. So.

Eming (:

Yeah, for sure.

Marlin (:

What was, why was that it released on, there was one song that Kendra released on his Instagram only. I think it is now on Spotify, but there was like a delay. And then a bunch of songs released on YouTube first and then eventually on Spotify. So folks literally were hopping around the internet trying to find where's this Kendra song at? What's it doing? Can I find it? So someone like sent me a link.

Eming (:

Mm.

Thank you for that update. I didn't know I needed that in my life, but apparently I did.

Ray (:

Hehehe.

Marlin (:

so well.

Good shit, good shit.

Eming (:

Should we spin this on the other side of the universe for Rey's take on the bad back?

Ray (:

Yeah, it won't be very long.

Marlin (:

Spin it.

Ray (:

that's right. That's true. That's me. So I've caught up and watched very recently the final season of The Bad Batch, which I didn't realize was going to be the final season, if I'm being honest, when it was starting up. But apparently this is the end of the show. And, you know, good little ending there. Very happy with this show in general.

Eming (:

It's you.

Marlin (:

SU!

Ray (:

Despite it kind of departing from some of Clone Wars and Rebels has a lot more arc based storytelling, like every three episodes or something, every four episodes is a thing. Bad Batch was just like seasons and like there was a more serial storyline and there'd be some episodes that kind of departed away from the main story, but for the most part they're very serial.

Eming (:

Mmm.

Mm -hmm.

Ray (:

And a lot of good emotion, a lot of good times with the seeing what happened to the end of the clones in this universe. Like they were there, what happened to them basically. And that's basically where the show goes into. You get to see a lot of the beginning of the empire stuff, which is always interesting to see. And one of the main characters that's new to the show, her name is Omega.

She's a female clone from the same Jango Fett timeline basically of clones, which makes her very special. And it goes like this show, the clone lore has a lot of like, the whole point of this bad bat show is they were a clone squad that were like experimental clones and they were given like heightened abilities in certain aspects. And...

But they aren't normal clones and that's part of the reason why they didn't turn when Order 66 kicks in because they aren't normal clones. I don't think they had the same little thingies that turned everybody. So, whatchya call it? They, but yeah, they find this other special clone, Omega, and they take care of her. She's like, I don't know, like nine or 10 when the show starts. And she seems to be aging normally.

as opposed to the hyper -aging that the rest of them do. So she's cute and real smart throughout the show. And just last season got to also do something that they needed to do somewhere, which was, remember when we were watching Rise of Skywalker? I think that was the last one in this bad franchise that I don't really want to speak about. But they...

Marlin (:

man.

Ray (:

brought back Emperor Palpatine like he was a clone of himself or something. Yeah, so they finally started to explain some of that in this bad batch and is very similar to a lot of how they explained away other things. I liked the storyline here because it was surrounded in animation and it's done a little bit better and it's part of the third season story because Omega is very special to...

Marlin (:

Uhhh... Yes...

was it good?

Mmm.

Ray (:

this process for some reason she can replicate midichlorians better. and so they're like trying to use her for discovery and that's mostly the main storyline. And it is an interesting, way to put all that back in there. I don't know if it actually is going to explain it based now that I've seen the full season, but the bad guy from it is like experimenting on clones and stuff. And like, he's a little menacing.

and this base, this super secret base in the Empire, like trying to find it, it was this menacing process for them. So it's like kind of fun just like seeing the Empire be super scary as this time period like gets to do, which is why I like that they're making a lot of stuff in this time period, but just away from Jedi's.

Marlin (:

I'll never watch it again.

Ray (:

Good show, keeps good animation on Disney.

Eming (:

So did it like, now that it's ended, do you feel like the story was like, got its rightful like thing, or do you feel like there were things that you wish they had included or expanded on or gone into?

Ray (:

Yeah, it's a full story.

I can't me personally know I think there's I'd be interested in seeing if Omega could if they're gonna go with some because if I spoil you the character doesn't die so in the world of Star Wars canonically I guess she's she exists during the rebellion so like is she gonna learn how to be a Jedi or something because she could replicate

Motechlorians like what was that all about? They didn't really dig into that That's really the only biggest thing that comes up for me But it just really depends on if they try and use this character I Think she's voiced by someone else from New Zealand

Marlin (:

Yeah.

Eming (:

Hmm.

Ray (:

I can't remember her background other than that because I remember reading something about her being her feeling honored to do this because it does make her feel like she's a she's part of the clone thing because New Zealand is where tomorrow Morrison is from so Yeah, anyway, did I can't remember her name Michelle something

Marlin (:

Yeah, she's from New Zealand.

Michelle Ong. She was born in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Ray (:

There you go.

knows where that is on that island somewhere near a putucky -tucky

Eming (:

That's where hobbits live.

Marlin (:

That is what a name Christ Church.

Eming (:

Who knows? People make interesting life choices all the time.

Ray (:

Who knows?

Marlin (:

By way of Malaysian. Malaysian extraction.

Eming (:

Hmm, interesting.

So after this having ended, do you think that they're going to explore anything else from this group or do you think this story is done?

Ray (:

I mean, they kept her alive and aged her up. And so I think we're going to see her again for sure in something.

Eming (:

Mm. Mm. Okay. Cool.

Marlin (:

I mean, yeah, she's she can do the with her and midichlorians. I mean, there's so much we can do with that. Or are they going to explain it at all? Maybe.

Ray (:

Yeah. Especially with what's her name doing that same thing recently.

Marlin (:

It's okay.

Eming (:

Soca?

Ray (:

Yeah, and a soca Sabine Yeah, I know. I'm sorry. I'm sorry So just still kind of expecting that to happen again. Basically is where I'm going with this

Eming (:

I don't even want to think about her. I'm still mad at her.

Marlin (:

I didn't watch that one, dang.

you

All right. Well, hey, bad batch, you know, I definitely added a lot. Our boys kept that progress going, kept it fresh.

Ray (:

We always love clone storylines. That's what we've learned and I guess maybe not the prequels that episode two, but since the Clone Wars and all the times clones show up, usually a good time.

Eming (:

They are interesting.

Marlin (:

Right? I mean, isn't it wild? That's like one person just talking to himself and that's like, this is the most entertaining you can have it be this person is having the most amazing side quests that we ever want to see. Please stick with this one person doing five different voices.

Eming (:

Mm -hmm.

You

Right?

Ray (:

It's very emotional sometimes.

Marlin (:

True, I mean.

Eming (:

Bitch, that's very true. Once you're gonna do it, you're like, my god. So much happening.

Marlin (:

especially when like they're I mean think about like your brothers you're part of a big family you know but it might not be a family but like family adjacent and all of a sudden it's like where are the odd people out was that due to sense of camaraderie was that due to sense of identity was that due to sense of just like placement

Ray (:

Yeah, or like an old clone that they that they fought with who's now the Empire side because the gala got flipped and then they run into them and they're like, the the drama that that causes because they're brothers now on different sides.

Eming (:

Mm -hmm.

Marlin (:

who knows you know now we got to think about what we're gonna do with the Jedi with Star Wars the Old Republic now that's gonna be the new timeline

Eming (:

yeah. When is that next show dropping? Yeah. Are you watching it right? Are you going to watch it?

Marlin (:

sure.

Ray (:

acolyte thing it's very soon it's not animated so nope

Marlin (:

That's honestly a safe bet. Is it animated? It's not? I'm not gonna risk it. I'm not gonna risk it.

Eming (:

You

Ray (:

where I'm at these days.

Eming (:

Until Andor comes back at least.

Ray (:

And I... Yeah.

Marlin (:

The shadowy secrets. Who else is in this? it's, speaking of Squid games.

Ray (:

yeah, yeah, he is in this. The main character of Squid Game. Yeah.

Marlin (:

He's in this! The character in Squid Game, he's on the poster. Ling Zhengzhai, yeah. God. He's like right smack in the middle of two. Honestly, all I can see is him in Squid Games now. God. Okay, it's him. it's... Amanda Steinberg. Like you said, Kirian Moss. Which, I like Kirian Moss.

Eming (:

Who's in this? really?

I don't recall that.

That's a good game.

Ray (:

Curio Boss.

Carrying a moss as a Jedi is kinda hype though. So that actually makes it really hard to avoid it if I'm being honest too. I don't know if I like her in everything, but I do love, I do love carrying a moss in science fiction fantasy, so.

Eming (:

Yeah, no, I'm excited for that.

Marlin (:

I do like her in everything.

Eming (:

I feel like they're just trying to. That's fair, that's fair.

Marlin (:

True, sorry, Matrix, Jessica Jones, the Defenders, I'm down.

Eming (:

I feel like they're trying to do something though with Carrie Ann Moss and what's her face is also joining Star Wars. Like they're like trying to gather old sci -fi people into the franchise to like make like, hey, you guys can still watch this or make it interesting.

Marlin (:

I'm trying to figure out.

boo.

I knew it. Also from the good place Johnny Jacinto is at this too. Look at that. Our boy. Our boy's in it. And also there's a brother who has the default player character haircut for black people.

Ray (:

yeah, man, you just sent those on the CIA.

And Daphne Keen's in this.

Marlin (:

could have given them any other type of hairstyle y 'all this damn dread look is wild choices here hopefully it's good I mean they got they got a wookie the set looks nice at least these stills of the set look nice

Ray (:

I forgot about Daphne King.

I have been let down anytime a lightsaber has been live action by Disney. So.

Marlin (:

You're not wrong. You're not wrong.

Eming (:

Any - wait.

Ray (:

By Disney's hands, a lightsaber on screen, there's one exception, and that is Darth Vader mowing down people in the hallway at the end of Rogue One. And other than that, Disney live action lightsaber has been a letdown.

Marlin (:

This comes out June 4th.

Eming (:

Well, Rogue One is a self -contained thought, so...

Marlin (:

You're not wrong. You're not wrong. I mean, there's also another film that got coming out. Skeleton Crew.

Eming (:

Is there any other?

I vaguely remember us talking about that. What is that about?

Marlin (:

That one, the storyline is essentially four kids make a mysterious discovery on their home planet that leads them to get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy.

Eming (:

Sounds like the Star Trek kids show they had.

Marlin (:

that Star Wars kids show where it's like, hey, Richard learned how to be Jedi's and everyone's like, at what point were you kids trying to be Jedi's? What's the timeline here kids? Cause this show is going to go from zero to a hundred real quick if it goes right to the bad batch lineup. The last episode goes from rated E to like rated R real fast. Well that one has Jude Law and it has eight episodes.

Eming (:

hahahaha

Ray (:

Hehehehehe

Hehehehe

Yep.

Eming (:

Yeah.

She would look.

Marlin (:

Jude Law is in it, I don't know what he's doing, but he's in this one. And it's kids, and I'm not sure what they're gonna be doing, if they're Jedi or not, or if they're gonna give us kind of like, what's a good example, like a, what's that show, that British show, From the Block? Like a, something similar, let's have some like, padawans get lost in the sauce and have them be, it could be very similar to like, The Runaways, and Marvel, where like, they were just kids.

Ray (:

Interesting.

Marlin (:

who were in the MCU reacting to things happening in the MCU as up and coming young potential vigilantes slash superheroes. Maybe these kids are gonna be young and coming up and be like the Jedi suck, the Sith suck, everyone's terrible, all the adults make bad choices and we children are gonna, we only have ourselves to defend against these two idiot groups.

Ray (:

traumatic, but also right.

Marlin (:

Also, right? I honestly would like the critique of like, everybody here sucks. Like, we get taken away by these adults to train in silence. We can't have friends or like like people. We're told to push in our emotions. And the other side is like, we're straight up fascists. We're just going to murder people for no reason. All sides kind of have their own individual layer of suck because they're ignoring the people caught in the middle.

Eming (:

Yeah, a little bit.

Marlin (:

Can I fuck with that? Right? It'd be a great critique on that whole structure there, but we'll see what they thought to do with it. You know, they got, just like, you know, Marvel, it seems like Dave Filoni is like, let's just drop a bunch of Star Wars content right now and see if we can saturate that market next.

Ray (:

That's usually how it goes.

I... Yeah, you said... And I don't know what the next animated thing is.

Marlin (:

Star Wars or just from...

Ray (:

from Star Wars, yeah.

Marlin (:

Ooh, animated? I don't think I got anything for a minute.

Eming (:

Is there is there one coming up?

Ray (:

I don't know...

Eming (:

I feel like they were all live action. But maybe I'm wrong.

Marlin (:

I don't think they're doing anything... Is there anything else coming out? No? Star Wars Visions already had their part two. Young Jedi Adventures is already doing their thing. The Acolyte is coming out. I don't see anything else animator -wise.

Ray (:

Okay.

Marlin (:

But then again, it's summer and they already have some stuff slotted so like they might wait until next year to announce.

Eming (:

Maybe, probably. Because like, aren't they rethinking, isn't Marvel kind of, or Disney, Marvel, whatever, aren't they kind of rethinking how much they're putting out because of the market saturation of something to that effect? Yeah.

Ray (:

Yeah.

Marlin (:

Yeah, they're doing what three movies and two shows now. So I think depending on how things go, they might also do that to Star Wars. Let's just drop two projects. definitely. It's like three movies. That's a ton. That's like two hours each or damn near three hours, depending on what they're going to do for it.

Ray (:

That's still a lot.

Eming (:

Yeah.

Marlin (:

But yeah, I think they're gonna do a lot of rewriting. I wouldn't be surprised if they adjusted the Winter Soldier. That one's a movie or is it a TV show still? No, that one's gonna be a movie, I think. Sorry, Captain America.

Eming (:

No, it's not. It's a, what's it called? Brave new, no. Brave new world? Something, something.

Marlin (:

Get an America and something. American Order? New American Order or some shit? New World Order. Yeah.

Eming (:

New order, new world order, there we go, that sounds.

Ray (:

New World Order.

Ding ding ding, I win the prize.

Eming (:

When is that coming out?

Marlin (:

You did it! February 14, 2025.

Eming (:

God, that's a very long way off. We've been talking about that for a while now.

Marlin (:

Yeah, so we'll see.

It's a minute away and I think that might have been the last one they finished before they had this new rule. So we'll see if that has any change.

Eming (:

Mmm.

Because they pushed back the thunder whatever, I can't think of the name right now.

Marlin (:

Well, Thaddeus Thunderbolt Ross is in this movie still. So Harrison Ford is still going to be Thunderbolt. He's still in this. It might have just some other things, but Thaddeus is in this. Isaiah Bradley, OG Captain, the Black Catholic America is in this. Tim Blake Nielsen is in this. Anthony Mackie, WWE superstar Seth frickin' Rollins is in this.

Eming (:

Mmm. Mmm.

okay. Interesting.

Hmm. Interesting.

Ray (:

Yeah, it's going to be a thing. There's a lot of people. I hope that they find something that works after hearing that they had a whole version of it that people didn't like. So I wish them success on this.

Marlin (:

So.

Yeah, I mean, currently, it still says plot kept under wraps fourth movie is coming soon. So I was hoping they friggin put out blade because that still hasn't had any updates yet. They just got three actors on that they got me at golf. Delroy Lindo and Mahershala Ali are the only three people listed as a cast so far.

Eming (:

That's exciting.

Has that been filmed?

Right?

Ray (:

I've heard.

I feel like I've heard more about Fantastic Four lately than I have about...

Eming (:

For real. The first family, they gotta do them right.

Marlin (:

than Blade. I mean, Blade is on its what, fourth rewrite so far? Like they keep going back to it.

Ray (:

a fantastic four.

Eming (:

Marvel. Marvel.

Marlin (:

This will be for Mahershala. Mahershala was like really excited. I think if he's not locked in for a five movie deal or whatever, he might be one and done. Because this experience I'm sure has been annoying for him. Like you come in, everyone's like, we got big plans Mahershala. And all of a sudden it's like, listen, we're going to push back pre -production. Yeah, we're going to phase five. This isn't really going our way Mahershala. Let's.

Eming (:

Yeah, yeah, for sure.

Ray (:

Those big fans weren't good ideas.

Marlin (:

I know we got you slanted to not do any movies, but that also would suck. Because it's like when you're in these movies, they keep you from doing anything else, which is the biggest crap. You're like, great, I'm signed on. I can't do any movies until we do something with this. Come on now. You're wasting my time now.

Eming (:

Yeah.

Marlin (:

Thank God Mia Golf is already stuck with her A24 contract because she still has that to go through. She still has work.

Eming (:

Thanks for watching!

Lucky her.
