Shownotes

I can barely spend 3 minutes on IG without feeling tension in my chest these days.

But, when you’re a small business owner/practitioner/coach or looking at buildings with social media… How do you do it when you’d much rather be drinking tea in the sun with a friend?

I’ve contemplated this a lot, and been experimenting with clients.

We’ve used these 2 questions to keep building and growing without relying on social media, without even needing websites, and without feeling tension in our jaw and text neck all day.

Whether you’re starting a business or you've been in it for a decade… if you’re feeling exhausted by social media, and your body braces every time you think about posting, this episode is for you.

By the end, you’ll know:

✨ The 2 exact things your  business (or future business) actually needs to grow (it’s not IG).

How to choose marketing methods that feel nourishing to your nervous system—not draining.

The simplest way to reach the right people—without relying on social media or forcing visibility.

📍 You're building or thinking about building a business and the idea of marketing and social media feels unsustainable, kind of chaotic or completely out of reach. 📍 By the end of this episode, you'll know exactly what your business or future business actually needs to grow without going on loops of how to do it all and how to choose marketing methods that feel nourishing to your nervous system, not draining, and the simplest way to reach the right people without relying on social media or forcing yourself to be visible in ways that are uncomfortable.

Before we dive in, remember to access Soma because Soma is the AI chat GPT, that's free. In real time, and if you resonate with my work, don't forget to message me about the academy. Let's talk about whether or not it's a fit for you. The academy is a group and one-on-one space that helps you build or rebuild your business with strategy that your nervous system, your body, your sensitive way of being, can actually hold.

I'll be honest with you, this episode is as much for me as it is for you. I've been thinking a lot about. What I wanna say about social media, how it fits in for me, and I think I'm also just figuring it out alongside you as I think most of us are at this point. For a bit of context, I had a relationship coaching business, with a partner and we had, you know, over 200,000 followers and most of our business came off of Instagram.

And, that was a really nice time of my life. I enjoyed it and, uh. I also gave me a lot of perspective around social media, and then I transitioned, into the way that you see me now. And I've always had a really small audience and, but mostly my, my business has been built off of social media. That's, that was really awesome for those years.

And then coming into a place into my life where the idea of just like being on my phone just gives me that physical feeling on my body of like, Ugh, yuck. I don't like it. And I think you're all feeling that as, as well. I've seen the way that everyone is using social media, it's changed. We're still recovering from Covid.

A lot of people don't wanna be on it, and I think we just really need to be really honest about how are we as small business owners or practitioners going to be marketing and selling in accessible ways when social media isn't a place that most of us wanna hang out. But it's the way that people have kind of told us to market prior and it has been effective before and I'm sure that it can be effective still now, and, and is, I connect with a lot of you on social media, so my invitation today is more simple than, which platform am I going to be using?

It's more strategic and it's gonna use your energy a little bit better. It's actually. What does my business need and what does my body need? Because if you're going to do this business, whether you're restarting it or starting it for the first time or thinking about it, or you've been at it for 10 years and you're like, what the, what does this look like, this new evolution look like?

It needs three things. It needs sales, which is different from marketing. It needs marketing, which is just a way to be visible and it needs clients. Let's break that down. Sales actual conversations that lead to an exchange of money. Marketing a way of being seen by your idol client, client, real people with real problems that you are very good at solving, that you care about solving.

So the first check-in is who are you serving? Who are you serving? Who do you care about? Who do you wanna help? Who do you wanna support? Who, who, who are you serving?

And then what is a problem? Be more interested in who are you serving and what is their problem than you are, and which social media platform, if any, am I using? And then ask, well, where are they? We had a client come through in the academy and we just did this for a month. Who are they? What is their problem and where are they?

Because she wasn't really sure. So we need to get clear before we can do anything else. Otherwise, you're just scattered. So write all of that down. Where are they? Where are the places that they hang out? Where, how do they, like, what, what are they using? What type of content do they consume? What devices, how much time do they have?

Who do they trust? Who do they listen to? What do they read? What are they? All of that stuff. What, what are they? Where are they in their day-to-day life? And then write, well, how do I wanna reach them? What feels doable? What feels possible? What feels fun? What feels like it nourishes and feeds you back?

Because sometimes we think that we need social media because it's like the thing that other people have done or the thing We see thick people doing things, but people have entire businesses. Without social media, without websites, and without like people actually do that. You are just not singing it.

And if there's anything that we do because we think that we should do it, rather than this is a natural way that my energy and my body wants to be expressed, then it's gonna feel like we're pushing up against something and now we have to play in contract, like in contrast to like the dysregulation. And you know, it's gonna put us into a freeze, or it's gonna put us into a fight response or a flight response.

We're using all of this energy to push ourselves down a kill. That's not necessarily helpful. But if it's fun, if it's a point of self-expression, if it's a thing that naturally comes to you, then you're going to be naturally more inclined to do that. That that's not to say that it will be easy all the time, but your energy will tell you to go that way.

So maybe social media is one of those fun things, but maybe a wise thing would be not to rely on it for everything. Because social media is something that you can only control to an extent. It's not a sustainable business model,

and you might even journal on this. Who do I already know that has contact with my ideal client and how could I co-regulate or collaborate with them? Hey, I am studying something. Do you think that you could connect with me with these types of people? Or maybe you create an entire container different.

That's different podcast. I have a client who has a private podcast feed instead of Instagram. It's invite only. That's her sales for marketing. She has a larger podcast. She says, shares one 10 minute episode a week. I have another client who does workplace meditation. She goes into companies that she already had ties with and has a 10 minute meditation once a month.

I have another client who has a whole business off of referrals and partnerships. She's never built her men, she's never built a website. And she just said to her a past mentor, Hey, if you know anyone who's struggling with this, I can do some consultation calls. And she just keeps asking for referrals.

No posts. No funnels, no nothing. This works. She's a mom. She doesn't have time. So once you've figured that out, you're gonna bring some structure to it. So you need to know what is your business need, write this down, where is your person? And then which methods actually feel doable and natural? And then you build structure around that, meaning like you block out two hours a week for follow ups and conversations for your referrals.

You prep a small set of emails or messages to share with friends or mentors explaining what you're doing and how you can help and asking for some support. Or one afternoon a week to record something on your podcast or your substack or, I don't know, your YouTube channel or whatever it is that you wanna do.

And if you're not ready to do any of all that, go back to pillar two of Somatic Intelligence for success and get curious about your perfectionism and then curious about your why. And ask yourself, what story am I telling myself about what this has to look like before I begin exploring and bringing people into that exploration?

That is the invitation today. Inside of the academy, you are not gonna be forced to grow a coaching business off of social media. You can grow whatever the hell you want, however the hell you want it. We're gonna look at what your business needs and what your body, what your body needs.

You're not gonna look at a 30 day content calendar to fix your social presence. I'm gonna go deeper and we're gonna go more sustainable so that you can sign clients consistently or sell your product consistently.
