Shownotes

There are more than a few ways to show up and make an impact, so in this episode I’ll give you an overview so you can find the way that speaks to you and the business you want to create. If you’re already serving in a way that you don’t love, then you’re not showing up to do your best work and it’s totally okay to pivot to a community service that lights you up.

Traditional licensed assisted living: Think residential assisted living for the aged with generally less than 15 residents. That’s not the same as an assisted living facility, which often has hundreds of residents. This is the model that most people get stuck on, but that’s not the only way to serve your community.

Licensed Group Homes: Habilitation type homes for DD or mental health individuals.

Community Hab: Everything outside of a licensed residential or licensed group home. This can be meal services, employment services, home modification, there are really tons of different options. Get curious and see what’s out there.

When I learned about all the different options out there, my mind was blown.

Ariana Jay:

Welcome back.

Ariana Jay:

I'm so glad you're here with me.

Ariana Jay:

Today.

Ariana Jay:

We are gonna be digging into a topic that is needed because I hear time and time and

Ariana Jay:

time again from men and women just like you, who do not understand that there are

Ariana Jay:

so many different types of care out there.

Ariana Jay:

They think that coming into this industry, you either just.

Ariana Jay:

like the senior, the age, or you serve like mental health, or you're

Ariana Jay:

serving individuals who are like in rehab or something like that.

Ariana Jay:

there are so many other options and I wanna talk to you.

Ariana Jay:

Not just like, okay, it's this care and this care and this.

Ariana Jay:

I'm talking to more of the impact and how you wanna show up and how

Ariana Jay:

you wanna make that impact, right?

Ariana Jay:

Because each person has their own preference, and I wanna dig into that.

Ariana Jay:

So the title is Different types of care, so let's get in.

Ariana Jay:

First off, I wanna say before we get into all of that, you get to create

Ariana Jay:

the business and care that you want and you desire, and you get to serve the

Ariana Jay:

clientele that you want to serve, period.

Ariana Jay:

It's not about what I wanna do.

Ariana Jay:

It's not about what the person next to you wants to do.

Ariana Jay:

It's about what you wanna do and how you wanna show up and how you want to serve.

Ariana Jay:

So that's what I'm going to start with today, and I want to talk about.

Ariana Jay:

Traditional licensed assisted living, and I want to kind of

Ariana Jay:

just touch on that a little bit.

Ariana Jay:

So a lot of times when people are getting into this industry,

Ariana Jay:

they talk about the baby boomers.

Ariana Jay:

There's so many baby boomers and there's such a need for

Ariana Jay:

residential assisted living.

Ariana Jay:

Licensed assisted living, and.

Ariana Jay:

It is a need and go ahead and break into the industry.

Ariana Jay:

And that's how you're gonna nail it.

Ariana Jay:

And let me also say this is a $87 billion industry as of 2021, and it's

Ariana Jay:

expecting a growth of 5.48% from 2020.

Ariana Jay:

To 2030.

Ariana Jay:

When people hear that, their eyes just bounce out of their head,

Ariana Jay:

but they are stuck on traditional assisted living and their only

Ariana Jay:

focus is the baby boomer industry.

Ariana Jay:

The seniors, the aged.

Ariana Jay:

I also wanna state that a licensed residential assisted

Ariana Jay:

living versus assisted living facility are two different things.

Ariana Jay:

Okay?

Ariana Jay:

One, the residential assisted living home is going to be a smaller, you

Ariana Jay:

know, two to 13 residents, and a assisted living facility is anywhere

Ariana Jay:

from like 40 to 300 res residents.

Ariana Jay:

It could be huge, right?

Ariana Jay:

More expensive.

Ariana Jay:

People just think of that.

Ariana Jay:

They think of that and that ain't it, baby, That ain't it.

Ariana Jay:

That is not everything.

Ariana Jay:

Okay.

Ariana Jay:

And again, this.

Ariana Jay:

Episode is not about pinpointing exactly what types of care,

Ariana Jay:

cuz there is a lot of 'em.

Ariana Jay:

I have a training in my program, the startup Provider program.

Ariana Jay:

It's a hybrid group coaching program and in there there is a training

Ariana Jay:

called 12 plus types of care and I probably need to go in and add

Ariana Jay:

to it cuz there's so much more.

Ariana Jay:

But that's where I like really drill down and go.

Ariana Jay:

. But I want you guys to understand that there's the residential

Ariana Jay:

side of things where there's the license assisted living home.

Ariana Jay:

Then there is group homes, right?

Ariana Jay:

Where you might have heard Facilities being called group homes.

Ariana Jay:

You may have heard of that.

Ariana Jay:

Instead of like LF or alh, you might be hearing group home.

Ariana Jay:

People use that term very, very loosely.

Ariana Jay:

And then there's community have, and I define community have as

Ariana Jay:

everything that's outside of a licensed residential or licensed group home.

Ariana Jay:

Okay.

Ariana Jay:

Those are the other services.

Ariana Jay:

There are so many of them.

Ariana Jay:

This is why I want to give you so much freedom in knowing that you are able

Ariana Jay:

to start the business in care that you want and you desire, and you are able

Ariana Jay:

to show up and make impact in that way because there's so many options now.

Ariana Jay:

I've seen it.

Ariana Jay:

People will get started in this business, not wanna work with seniors.

Ariana Jay:

Think that's the only way they're working with seniors and they.

Ariana Jay:

, Okay.

Ariana Jay:

Or people could jump into this business.

Ariana Jay:

They're working with youth.

Ariana Jay:

They think that's the only way they wanna work with adults, with DD or whatever.

Ariana Jay:

They're not quite sure how to get started.

Ariana Jay:

They don't understand anything, so they're stuck serving a population.

Ariana Jay:

They're making impact, not doing their best job because they really don't wanna

Ariana Jay:

be there when they can really pivot.

Ariana Jay:

And serve the population that they really want to serve.

Ariana Jay:

Okay, so those are the things that I want to talk with you about today.

Ariana Jay:

If you are strong on serving people in a licensed residential setting.

Ariana Jay:

Great.

Ariana Jay:

Like let's look at licensed residential assisted living, which I also

Ariana Jay:

call traditional assisted living.

Ariana Jay:

Or if you're looking at more of the, rehabilitative side of things,

Ariana Jay:

let's look at more of a group home.

Ariana Jay:

But we need to focus on who you are wanting to serve, right?

Ariana Jay:

You need to nail that down.

Ariana Jay:

If you have experience working with seniors and you want to continue

Ariana Jay:

working with seniors, great.

Ariana Jay:

Like do that.

Ariana Jay:

There's so many different options out there to provide care.

Ariana Jay:

Now, if you have a history of working with DD individuals or mental health

Ariana Jay:

individuals and you want to continue working with those individuals, great,

Ariana Jay:

but if you don't and you want to pivot, Then let's start pivoting so you feel

Ariana Jay:

more aligned with how you are showing up and how you are making impact.

Ariana Jay:

Y'all.

Ariana Jay:

When I tell you I was shook to my core when I learned of all of the

Ariana Jay:

different services that you can provide, I was like, Wait a minute.

Ariana Jay:

This changes the whole game.

Ariana Jay:

The whole game.

Ariana Jay:

. When I learned of all of the different options out there, I was like, Wait, what?

Ariana Jay:

I mean from daily living skills to employment services, to

Ariana Jay:

meals, to transportation, to home modification, to coordination of care.

Ariana Jay:

Just so many different services out there.

Ariana Jay:

So I just wanted to give you that little piece before I pivot

Ariana Jay:

and I talk about the client.

Ariana Jay:

. So with serving the clientele that you choose, you might be like, Well,

Ariana Jay:

Ariana, I don't really know who I can serve, so let's talk about that.

Ariana Jay:

Right now, there are youth care, right?

Ariana Jay:

You can provide services to youth, which I'm saying is 17 and under,

Ariana Jay:

and then within that you can get a little bit more specific.

Ariana Jay:

You can serve the aged out individuals.

Ariana Jay:

Then there are the adults, and then that's what we're looking

Ariana Jay:

at of like dd We're looking at.

Ariana Jay:

Individuals with mental health challenges, and then we're looking

Ariana Jay:

at the age, which is seniors.

Ariana Jay:

So those are your clientele that you can really serve.

Ariana Jay:

And again, it's important to know your limit.

Ariana Jay:

It's important to know your boundaries, and I want to make this point.

Ariana Jay:

We may want to be at a certain spot providing a certain service that we see

Ariana Jay:

or we've discovered, but I want you to know that some of these services, yes,

Ariana Jay:

they are out there and available, but some of them have requirements and you

Ariana Jay:

have to meet said requirements before you can even provide the service.

Ariana Jay:

So I want you to know that also, I will use myself as example.

Ariana Jay:

When I first started, I started with group home.

Ariana Jay:

I was providing group home services to DD clientele, and then from

Ariana Jay:

there I added services to it.

Ariana Jay:

I did not start out the gate with a whole bunch of services

Ariana Jay:

right when I was, a baby agency.

Ariana Jay:

I did not do that.

Ariana Jay:

I started with one service and then I added them on, and before that I

Ariana Jay:

was a foster parent and so I didn't even know about this type of care.

Ariana Jay:

So it doesn't matter where you are at on the spectrum, it doesn't matter

Ariana Jay:

where you are at as far as getting started, or you may already be started

Ariana Jay:

and you are wanting to add services.

Ariana Jay:

You may be wanting to pivot, you may be wanting to do some different things, and

Ariana Jay:

just know that you have freedom to do that, and you have options and you just

Ariana Jay:

have to look out there a little bit more.

Ariana Jay:

Join a community, you know what I mean?

Ariana Jay:

Like.

Ariana Jay:

Be curious, and that's what this episode really is for, is to help with that

Ariana Jay:

curiosity and just know that there are options out there for you and you are able

Ariana Jay:

to make that impact in a way that you want and you desire, and you are able to create

Ariana Jay:

that business and care that you want.

Ariana Jay:

And it, it has nothing to do with anybody else but.

Ariana Jay:

What you wanna do and who you wanna serve and how you want to make impact.

Ariana Jay:

So that is it for this episode, and I will see you in the next one.
