Well, we open up in 5 30, 6 BC and some

of the exiles had already returned.

is being rebuilt at this point.

Daniel stays and there's questions.

Why does Daniel stay?

Why doesn't he go back to Jerusalem?

Well, he was at the age where it wouldn't

really have made a whole lot of sense

for him to go back, whatever it is.

He's still there.

And while he's there,

he has another vision.

And this time it's a vision of a great

conflict in verses one through three that

sends them into morning for three weeks.

He is morning.

Is refusing delicacies.

We might even assume, although

it doesn't necessarily state it

explicitly that he's fasting.

But, but he is.

Is in a state of mourning

because he sees this conflict.

And then in verses four through 14,

Uh, you get this being that shows up

there and it's probably an angelic

being, it may even be Gabriel again.

Um, some see this as the

pre-incarnate Christ because of his

appearance and Daniel's response.

But I think there's some factors that

may work against this number one,

he's hindered by the prince of Persia.

I don't think the pre-incarnate

Christ is going to be hindered

by the prince of Persia.

He's.

Nobody's standing in his way.

He needs help from another

angel in that conflict.

So even if the prince of Persia

was like, Hey, stop in the name of.

And then Jesus doesn't need help.

And then the final one, he seems to be.

I have been sent from heaven,

verse 11, with a message.

He is given a message.

This is not Jesus speaking the word of

God because he is God, this is the angel

being sent with a message as a messenger.

So it's an overwhelming sight,

but we see that in the book of

revelation to John falls at the

feet of angels in revelation and the

angels say, Hey, what are you doing?

Stand up.

I'm just an angel bro.

Um, so all that to say, I don't think this

is an angel, I think, or, or Jesus rather.

I think this is an angel.

And I don't know that I read anyone

that would make a strong case.

That it was Jesus.

this, sees the vision is.

He's by himself when he sees him.

another angel then shows up to strengthen

him and he's to be able to hear what

the angelic messenger had to say.

And so you've got the angels

kind of working together here,

different roles, different purposes.

And so the Dean was able to, to listen.

And then in verses 20 through 21, Uh,

Persia and Greece were causing problems.

Endo Persia was on its way out.

Greece was really just getting started

and that's where we're going to go.

And chapter 11 is to

focus primarily on Greece.

So, uh, Did we noticed here verse

13, the prince of the kingdom

of Persia withstood me 21 days.

But Michael, one of the chief

princes came to help me.

I was left there with the Kings of Persia.

Uh, okay.

So what we have here Kings

is Kings and princes.

That are in reference to angels.

Yeah.

So it seems like.

And I don't know if this

is still happening today.

not the same way or at least similar.

That these angelic beings,

these fallen angels, demons have

territorial, uh, assignments.

And even as God sends Gabriel, if it is

Gabriel to Daniel, He's blocked by these

angelic beings in the heavenly realm.

Daniel's morning, those three weeks.

Uh, I'm guessing he's praying and God

answered him three weeks ago, but the

answer to his prayers delayed because

of this angelic warfare does demonic

entities that are battling one another.

But that to me tells me I better

keep praying under God's sovereign

allowance of all of this too.

And that's where you get your.

thinking, how does all this work together?

Uh, and I guess it has to feel

choosing the words and I'm saying.

the purview of God's sovereignty.

of his will, but I'm choosing it.

right now to say, Yeah, crazy.

that, when he said it's better for one

And yet he's saying he's choosing those

words on the fly for a different purpose

than what God superintended it to.

all this history we pick up in verse

two, and you've got these four Kings

this is exactly who these Kings are,

If we look at verse three, we're going to

see Alexander the great come on the scene.

And so if we back up from Alexander,

the great, some of the other Persian

Kings that were right before him,

we can kind of make a general.

Uh, informed estimate as,

as to who these Kings are.

And so the first might be

camp, a guy named Cain BCS,

and he ruled in five 30 BC.

Then another guy named

pseudo smear this, which.

Again, you're looking for a baby name.

A pseudo Samaritan might

Yeah, 5 22 BC.

Derrius the first HISTEP.

Uh, how about his step sees that's

another, that's a good middle name.

5 21 to 46 and then Xerxes and.

Xerxes is a name that you'll recognize

perhaps from the book of Esther.

And he was the king of rulings

during that time, 45 to 4 65 BC.

So Persian Kings verse two verse three

mighty king comes up in this mighty king

is going to be there from the kingdom.

That's going to replace Persia,

which pop quiz, who is it?

It's Greece and the king leading

Greece is going to be Alexander.

The great.

So Alexander, the great comes up in verse

three and remember the rapidity, the

speed that the goat wasn't touching the

ground, but it says there as, as fast as

he came to power, his kingdom is broken.

Alexander, the great dies young.

He dies in his thirties from

a sickness, from a disease.

And after he dies, he

dies without a, an error.

And so his kingdom is split verse

four into these four generals.

And this is the forehead leopard

from back in chapter seven.

Um, and so in these four generals,

you have these, you have the first

one being And then the second being

told me, and then the third being a

and then the fourth being Cassandra.

And so, uh, each of those took a

different region of the Grecian empire

solutions took Syria, Mesopotamia.

You had told me, take Egypt.

Then you had a Take three S in

Asia minor, and then Cassandra

took Macedonia and Greece.

there, he wasn't done in Greece.

That's kind of like, all right.

It wants to emerge out of this or the

toll means and the solutions, the Kings

of that, those are the ones we know about.

the north and the south for

with the battles between the

Kings of the north, the solutions.

And the Kings of the south, the Ptolemies.

to the arrival of Antiochus the

fourth or Antiochus Epiphanes.

critics to look at this and say, there's

north, again, the solicits and the

uh, really the region of Syria

Uh, the solutions are the ones though that

are going to produce Antiochus the fourth.

And so in verses 21 through 35.

This really details the rise of Antiochus

the fourth Antiochus Epiphanes and

it's, it's a pretty detailed section.

You, you get his failed attempts at taking

Egypt and restoring Alexander's empire.

So he was fighting the

Tony's and in not successful.

And what that did and how that

factored into what we're talking

about with, with Daniel in Israel is

that fueled his rage against Israel.

And he comes back from fighting in Egypt

and being defeated in and he takes out

his, his vengeance on the people of God.

And this is going to culminate

ultimately with him forcing an end to

the burnt offerings and sacrifices.

And enforcing an end to that.

And then also offering that the

abomination that makes desolate.

Which we understand historically

to be the fact that he

sacrificed a pig on the altar.

And so he gets angry at his, his failures

to take Egypt and goes after Jerusalem.

chapter 11, and he goes after the temple,

and again, God allows him to do this.

Daniel chapter 11, verses 21 through 35.

And is abomination of

desolation verse 36, though.

And it doesn't look necessarily

like it shifts, but it shifts to the

anti type of intake as the fourth.

And that is the antichrist.

The antichrist and the events

described in these verses.

shift is taking place is because

weren't fulfilled by attackers.

And so what we find in the rest

of chapter 11 is that missing 70th

week from Daniel chapter nine.

This is the final week.

This is the antichrist rule.

Which will not be unopposed by the

way, if you'll notice that he's going

to have battles that he's going to

have to fight against other nations

and other armies, but eventually he's

going to establish full power and

set up his tent in Jerusalem there

between the sea and the holy mountain.

ultimately this one's end is going to

be a final and his, his doom is, is

sure, uh, as the, the grid him says.

between the solutions and the toll means.

And then the rise of

Intacct is the fourth.

And then the one that Intacct is the

fourth is ultimately pointing to, which

is the future fulfillment of this,

which is going to be the anti-Christ.

If we had to summarize some of the things

that we've learned, and I know we still

have to get the chapter 12, but just.

Put this in context, if we're

going to paint with a broad

brush, What do these chapters?

Seven through 12, teach us.

Um, things that we should walk

away with, even if we're not

familiar with all the particulars.

God is sovereign over the

affairs of human history.

I think the book of Daniel lays

that out for us, perhaps better

than any other book that we find.

Um, he is he's in control.

I mean, this is why the

first six chapters, even

though yeah, they're easier.

They're they're not without

their own profundity.

I mean, when.

He drives, never can enter into

the wilderness and says, you need

to realize that I'm the king of

Kings and the Lord of Lords that I

established Kings and take them out.

And then the rest of the book that

background helps us understand

how the rest of the book can be so

accurate because he's the one that

sovereign over all of these things.

I want a cool picture.

We need that reminder as we enter

another election season, as we start

thinking about the future for our

nation, the future for our churches,

the future for our kids, our grandkids.

We need to be reminded.

Jesus is on the throne.

He's never left.

He's got it all under control.

And in that we should take our confidence.

He's got the whole world in his hands.

Uh, chapter 12.

Uh, chapter 12, first three verses

here, dealing with the antichrist

rain during the antichrist rain,

Israel is going to face unprecedented,

suffering and troubles, but God

is going to deliver them still.

And in the end, you're going to

have these two groups emerge.

The first is going to be redeemed

Israel, those written in the book

who will rise to everlasting life.

And the second group are going to be

those that have rejected God who rise

to everlasting shame and contempt.

John 5 29, Jesus himself said

that those who have done good will

rise to the resurrection of life.

Those who have done evil to

the resurrection of judgment.

We don't see a lot about eternity.

We've talked about that here.

Um, we don't see a lot about

that in the old Testament.

And yet here we see a very clear.

Presentation of the fact that there was

a, an awareness of the judgment seat.

There was an awareness of the great

white throne at least, or the Bema seat,

perhaps they wouldn't have known it.

As in those terms.

But they were aware of, of judgment.

They were aware of eternity.

They were aware that some are

going to go to an eternity of

shame and everlasting contempt.

And there were some that were

going to go to life eternal.

And so I know there's

been some questions in.

What did they understand about

eternal Eternity they're here.

This is a great passage to go

to, to realize they did have

an understanding that there was

something that came after death.

Or this is also a time when God began

to reveal more of that, as we understand

progressive revelation God's and

tell us everything on the front end.

So this might've been one of those

clarifying times in Israel's history,

through the prophet, Daniel, where

God decided to start sharing more

information about the afterlife.

And this is a really important thing for

us because we take this for granted today.

Like, oh yeah, there's

a place of punishment.

There's a place of, uh,

of reward and protection.

This is great.

And this is helpful.

And this tells us something

really cool though.

Those who are wise shall shine like

the brightness of the sky above, and

those who turn many to righteousness.

Like the stars.

Forever and ever.

So there is a blessing and a reward

for those who maintain righteousness.

Um, it's a dark time.

And again, what a good

reminder that is for us today.

Verses six and seven, then

Daniel wants to know, okay,

how long is this going to last?

And he's told a time

times and half a time.

Uh, so that's three and

a half years at a time.

One year, times, two years,

half the time, half of a year.

So three and a half years, last

half of the tribulation period.

Uh, of that 70th week then, and

that's going to be the time of intense

suffering and persecution for Israel.

Uh, Daniel 12, 12.

1,290 days.

Um, this is, uh, this is

not three and a half years.

This is in fact about 30 days longer

than the three and a half years.

And, uh, and we're not exactly sure where

these extra days fit, but it could be on

either end of that three and a half years.

Some have said, this is the rise to power.

Some have said that this is the judgment

following the three and a half years.

But, uh, but the 1,290 days before the,

the ultimate blessings are gonna come in.

Um, to Israel and, uh, and she

will receive those at that point.

What do you say to the person that

says that they're a pan millennialist,

it's all going to pan out in the end.

Yeah.

I mean, I I'll say this.

That a lot of this is

the sentiment of, yeah.

But, I mean, we're called to

worship God with our minds.

Um, In that employee and involves

employing our minds to the, to the

limits, you know, to, to understand

as much about them as we possibly can.

Um, I think certainly as pastors, we

have a responsibility to fall somewhere.

I was talking with somebody

recently about this.

We're going to have decisions in,

in, in positions, on things because

that's part of our job to lead feed

and protect the flock we need to.

Right to Lindt somewhere.

Not everybody's going to have that

same conviction and that's okay.

There might be some people that

are spending years trying to sort

746

through all this and figure out

where they're going to land on that.

That's good work.

As long as it's not the central

issue, like the deity of Christ.

There's freedom in that to be

like, okay, where do I fall on,

750

on this issue or that issue.

But yeah, I think we need to give

ourselves to the effort, even if we

752

never really feel a hundred percent

confident in where we land, that's

753

probably a good wisdom and advice for us.

What the Bible as a whole.

The Bible doesn't start out easy.

I don't think for anybody, I mean,

you and I have had years of the

757

Bible now and it's become easier.

And become more coherent and clear

to us because we spent a lot of time

just investing and understanding it.

Yeah.

And the more you spend in it,

the better it'll be for you.

The more you understand the

old Testament, the more the

763

new Testament will make sense.

And the more you give yourself to it,

the better your experience will be

every year that you go through it.

So if you're in it right now

with us, praise God for that.

You're doing a good thing

and it will pay dividends.

we're still breathing in, in here,

that we would be students of your

word and continually approaching it

with a teachable heart and humility

to learn what it has to say for us.
