Speaker:

Hey, everybody.

2

:

Welcome to Monday's edition

of the daily Bible podcast.

3

:

Hey, Hey.

4

:

Hey.

5

:

How many pumpkin spice

lattes have you had?

6

:

Ooh, you know what?

7

:

I actually really do enjoy

those, but I haven't had one yet.

8

:

I think I kind of like to wait.

9

:

I don't know, probably till October.

10

:

It feels more like fall and I

start seeing pumpkins around town.

11

:

So not yet.

12

:

I haven't had any pumpkin spice.

13

:

Anything.

14

:

How about you?

15

:

Uh, I haven't either actually,

now that I think about it.

16

:

There's somebody in my neighborhood

who on their garage, they have

17

:

a sign up that says happy fall.

18

:

Like they remediate on it.

19

:

It's time to go.

20

:

It's fall now.

21

:

They've declared.

22

:

Is it technically fall yet?

23

:

When does fall.

24

:

So late September.

25

:

Uh, Sunday, September 22nd.

26

:

Yeah.

27

:

So the autumn Equinox.

28

:

Yeah.

29

:

Okay.

30

:

So tech, so there there's, there's

two different kinds of calendars.

31

:

You've got the, the calendar

that that's governed by the

32

:

place of the sun in the sky.

33

:

And then there's the other one,

which is basically by the calendar.

34

:

So I think.

35

:

We might be in calendar fall.

36

:

Right.

37

:

I mean, certainly the school

semester by semesters.

38

:

The fall semester and.

39

:

Well, I mean, yeah.

40

:

Yeah, but yeah, the autumn.

41

:

The autumnal.

42

:

Autumn the tunnel is that.

43

:

Yeah, I hate that.

44

:

Well, it's the fall Equinox.

45

:

Take it up with English.

46

:

Will the September 22nd, all

the way through December 21st.

47

:

Did you know that all the

way through December 21st?

48

:

Yeah.

49

:

Winter is later than we give it to them.

50

:

It feels like winter after Thanksgiving.

51

:

Yep.

52

:

We're in winter now.

53

:

We got rid of the Turkey in the, in

the, the, the fall, the fall Fest.

54

:

No.

55

:

No.

56

:

Okay.

57

:

So here let's, let's get this.

58

:

So some people put up Christmas

decorations super early, right?

59

:

Yeah.

60

:

And in Marsten's honestly, I'm.

61

:

I'm okay with that.

62

:

I enjoy it.

63

:

I think that's great.

64

:

Yeah.

65

:

I was out on a run in my

neighborhood the other day.

66

:

I was going through and

somebody hat, not Christmas.

67

:

Hamper, not Christmas.

68

:

Okay.

69

:

They, you know, that the

like, You know, the Costco.

70

:

Giant skeleton.

71

:

Oh yeah.

72

:

The thing that is.

73

:

Terrifying.

74

:

Sure.

75

:

So they had that.

76

:

They had the spider's web

connected from that to their house.

77

:

They had.

78

:

They had the house?

79

:

No, they didn't have the.

80

:

I agree with that, but they had

the arms coming out of the ground.

81

:

Thanks.

82

:

And I just thought to myself,

Dude it's it's September 10th and

83

:

you've got all that up already.

84

:

The wean isn't for another month

and a half, they have a lot more

85

:

stuff that they're bringing out.

86

:

Cause you only started early when

you have a lot of stuff to bring

87

:

out well, cause then it's worth it.

88

:

It seemed like they were done.

89

:

It seemed like their yard was full.

90

:

Like they just really like Halloween.

91

:

I loved artist flag on the plate.

92

:

I don't think.

93

:

Yeah.

94

:

I yeah.

95

:

Yeah, I don't.

96

:

Yeah.

97

:

Uh, I think that the darkness that

corresponds to that holiday, if we

98

:

can call it that all saints day.

99

:

Um, I just, I there's

something wrong with it.

100

:

Yeah, I can appreciate the fun

and dressing up as whatever.

101

:

Getting getting candy.

102

:

That's that's great.

103

:

But the, the, the darkness and

the, the, the death and the

104

:

morbidity just seems like there's.

105

:

Something wrong with it.

106

:

And I, and maybe you could

just say, Hey, there's just

107

:

something about the sign of death.

108

:

Death is not a gift.

109

:

It's a curse.

110

:

Uh, skeletons and ghouls and

goblins makes it look like a child's

111

:

fancy that this stuff is real.

112

:

There are real demons and

there are real gobble.

113

:

I mean, goblins, I guess, I don't

know if there's such thing as that,

114

:

but there are demonic forces that

are all around us all the time.

115

:

And it just seems like we're making

a light of something that is so

116

:

serious such that we make it.

117

:

Like a child's fancy.

118

:

Oh, the devil ha.

119

:

Yeah, we're two a.

120

:

Or too sophisticated to believe

in such childhood nonsense.

121

:

Yeah.

122

:

Yeah.

123

:

Are is your home decorated

with, at skeleton?

124

:

Yeah, it was actually my house.

125

:

I ran by my house.

126

:

And then Amanda, what are you doing?

127

:

It's too early.

128

:

She's on the roof.

129

:

Setting things up.

130

:

Sorry.

131

:

I'm sorry.

132

:

I was just thinking out loud.

133

:

Yeah, but no pumpkin spice lattes, but

we do have a brand new coffee shop is

134

:

right around the corner from our office.

135

:

Now we do Dutch bros.

136

:

Oh, yeah.

137

:

Yeah.

138

:

Give me a place to sit in.

139

:

Well, yeah, no fair.

140

:

It's drive through, but, but

their cold brew is unbeatable.

141

:

Nobody rivals Dutch bros.

142

:

Coroner.

143

:

I'm gonna try it.

144

:

I might try it tomorrow.

145

:

today yesterday.

146

:

You might try it yesterday before church.

147

:

Awesome.

148

:

Enjoy that.

149

:

And yesterday, when you, when you have

one, if you have one enjoy, when you do.

150

:

I wanted a place to sit inside though.

151

:

Can do this, that, give us

one here and at the windmill.

152

:

What's this called?

153

:

The windmill hill windmill hill.

154

:

Yeah.

155

:

A place to sit inside.

156

:

Yeah.

157

:

There's still that open

spot next to the bagel shop.

158

:

They don't even have

any place to sit inside.

159

:

Like yes.

160

:

I'm hoping.

161

:

Yeah.

162

:

Give me a Chipotle, a.

163

:

And appoint a local I'll

take a note, play Loco.

164

:

Yeah, but you can't study

in an employer Loco.

165

:

No, you can't.

166

:

Or Chipotle, they really well,

you can make it work at your pole.

167

:

They don't like it, but you can make.

168

:

Yeah.

169

:

I want a coffee shop.

170

:

I want to.

171

:

So I was out of the office this past week

on Friday for a minute, doing something.

172

:

And I found myself down in Dallas.

173

:

And I needed to study.

174

:

So I went to a coffee shop down there.

175

:

No, I bet it was great.

176

:

Great vibes, man.

177

:

Super cool.

178

:

Cool.

179

:

Yeah.

180

:

Yeah, it was.

181

:

Wayward coffee.

182

:

He word.

183

:

Yeah.

184

:

They also have the transgender

flag up on the boat.

185

:

Yeah, wayward coffee.

186

:

I thought.

187

:

Yeah.

188

:

They're telling you, but man,

I realize just how small.

189

:

I am when I was there.

190

:

Not like physically.

191

:

Yeah, no, I get that.

192

:

Yeah.

193

:

But just like I was there in downtown

Dallas, like about an hour away or

194

:

more from where I live and seeing

all of these people that come in

195

:

and frequent that coffee shop in

the regulars and they're there.

196

:

And I was like, I don't know any of them.

197

:

And they don't know me and I, my

life is so small on the grand scheme.

198

:

Yeah.

199

:

The scope of that crazy.

200

:

Yeah.

201

:

There's 8 billion of us on the planet.

202

:

Right.

203

:

And crazy.

204

:

And we get, I get, I get so zoomed

into my own life and my own existence.

205

:

I'm like, this is the greatest.

206

:

And then I'm like, these people

don't even know anything.

207

:

And it's, what's amazing if you, if you

start thinking out even further, is that

208

:

everybody is involved in their lives.

209

:

If not more thinking about their problems,

their bills, and it's just as real.

210

:

Yeah, just as profound and just as

massive in their lives as it is in ours.

211

:

And that's happening 8 billion times.

212

:

Yeah.

213

:

All over the world right now.

214

:

And God sees all of it

in intricate detail.

215

:

Yeah.

216

:

And what's even cooler

too, is in the new earth.

217

:

I mean, all of us are going to have that

level of attention and focus about Jesus.

218

:

Hmm.

219

:

Like that's where our

focus is going to be.

220

:

It's not going to be about.

221

:

Zooming in on our individual lives.

222

:

We're going to be doing things.

223

:

We're going to have jobs.

224

:

We're going to have work and everything

else like that, but we're not going

225

:

to be sitting there going, man.

226

:

I hope I get a promotion so

that I can get a bigger house.

227

:

We're going to be thinking everything

about our work and about our life

228

:

and about everything is going to be.

229

:

As it should be even now, which is going

to be about how does this glorify Jesus.

230

:

How does this redound to his honor?

231

:

Well, then it will then.

232

:

Would it be a sense of we're we're doing

all the things that we're called to

233

:

do as individuals for the collective.

234

:

Good.

235

:

For the glory of Jesus.

236

:

We'll just do it.

237

:

The right way, right?

238

:

So maybe we'll still have

those individual thoughts.

239

:

Cause I don't, I don't, I don't know.

240

:

I'm guessing here, but

we'll have personality.

241

:

We'll have individuality.

242

:

But it'll be in its right proportion.

243

:

It'll be in its right place.

244

:

Yes.

245

:

It serves the greater good.

246

:

Kind of like the Lego illustration

that you used a long time ago.

247

:

Yeah.

248

:

We're connected to the

larger organism, the church.

249

:

And we're all about Jesus.

250

:

And so I'm going to make this

coffee for pastor PJ, and this is

251

:

going to be the best coffee I can

possibly make so I can serve PJ.

252

:

So PJ can serve Jesus and I'm

serving Jesus by serving PJ.

253

:

Yes, Dutch bros culprit.

254

:

I don't know if that's

going to be in heaven, bro.

255

:

Well, it might be.

256

:

Okay.

257

:

Yeah, we'll see it stirs

my affections for Jesus.

258

:

So what if.

259

:

Yeah.

260

:

You know, what, if

there's not coffee, bro.

261

:

That would be so sad.

262

:

This is the worst conversation

we've ever had now.

263

:

I'm just saying.

264

:

I mean, what if there's

something better than coffee?

265

:

Okay.

266

:

You can have coffee or you

can have the ocean in heaven.

267

:

Coffee.

268

:

Yeah.

269

:

That's the end it's

over in the Bible says.

270

:

That the ocean won't be there,

but it doesn't say anything about

271

:

coffee so I can still have hope.

272

:

You have no hope.

273

:

I do have hope.

274

:

Because I think it represents something.

275

:

That's all I'm saying.

276

:

All right.

277

:

Let's jump into the Bible.

278

:

Daniel chapter 10, 11, and 12.

279

:

Why the sign man.

280

:

This is hard, man.

281

:

People are now they're like hard.

282

:

I read the Bible.

283

:

I love, I love my Bible,

but Daniel challenges me.

284

:

EasyCube challenge me, Daniel.

285

:

So if.

286

:

Zika was like lifting really heavy.

287

:

Yeah, Daniel, it feels like I'm lifting

way beyond my weight class, which is

288

:

crazy because it's a shorter book too.

289

:

What's going on.

290

:

At least chapter seven through 12.

291

:

First six chapters of Daniel.

292

:

You're like, man.

293

:

That was my warmup that.

294

:

I was, you know, like curls.

295

:

Jumping jacks calisthenics.

296

:

And now I'm just getting into the

here let's dead lift 10,000 pounds.

297

:

Yeah.

298

:

All right.

299

:

Well, we open up in 5 30, 6 BC and some

of the exiles had already returned.

300

:

Captivity was over the temple

is being rebuilt at this point.

301

:

Daniel stays and there's questions.

302

:

Why does Daniel stay?

303

:

Why doesn't he go back to Jerusalem?

304

:

Some of that?

305

:

Well, he was at the age where it wouldn't

really have made a whole lot of sense

306

:

for him to go back, whatever it is.

307

:

He's still there.

308

:

And while he's there,

he has another vision.

309

:

And this time it's a vision of a great

conflict in verses one through three that

310

:

sends them into morning for three weeks.

311

:

He is morning.

312

:

He is.

313

:

Is refusing delicacies.

314

:

We might even assume, although

it doesn't necessarily state it

315

:

explicitly that he's fasting.

316

:

But, but he is.

317

:

Is in a state of mourning

because he sees this conflict.

318

:

And then in verses four through 14,

Uh, you get this being that shows up

319

:

there and it's probably an angelic

being, it may even be Gabriel again.

320

:

Um, some see this as the

pre-incarnate Christ because of his

321

:

appearance and Daniel's response.

322

:

But I think there's some factors that

may work against this number one,

323

:

he's hindered by the prince of Persia.

324

:

I don't think the pre-incarnate

Christ is going to be hindered

325

:

by the prince of Persia.

326

:

Nope.

327

:

He's.

328

:

Yeah.

329

:

He's Nope.

330

:

Nobody's standing in his way.

331

:

Number two.

332

:

He needs help from another

angel in that conflict.

333

:

So even if the prince of Persia

was like, Hey, stop in the name of.

334

:

You know, the law.

335

:

Jesus.

336

:

Wouldn't be like, Hey Michael, can

you come here and help me, bro?

337

:

And then Jesus doesn't need help.

338

:

Yeah.

339

:

And then the final one, he seems to be.

340

:

I have been sent from heaven,

verse 11, with a message.

341

:

He is given a message.

342

:

This is not Jesus speaking the word of

God because he is God, this is the angel

343

:

being sent with a message as a messenger.

344

:

So it's an overwhelming sight,

but we see that in the book of

345

:

revelation to John falls at the

feet of angels in revelation and the

346

:

angels say, Hey, what are you doing?

347

:

Stand up.

348

:

I'm just an angel bro.

349

:

Um, so all that to say, I don't think this

is an angel, I think, or, or Jesus rather.

350

:

I think this is an angel.

351

:

Yes.

352

:

And I don't know that I read anyone

that would make a strong case.

353

:

That it was Jesus.

354

:

Yeah.

355

:

For the reasons that you mentioned.

356

:

Yeah.

357

:

Yeah, but Daniel sees

this, sees the vision is.

358

:

He's by himself when he sees him.

359

:

Uh, he's overwhelmed.

360

:

Uh, momentarily at least, but an eight,

another angel then shows up to strengthen

361

:

him and he's to be able to hear what

the angelic messenger had to say.

362

:

And so you've got the angels

kind of working together here,

363

:

different roles, different purposes.

364

:

And so the Dean was able to, to listen.

365

:

And then in verses 20 through 21, Uh,

Persia and Greece were causing problems.

366

:

Endo Persia was on its way out.

367

:

Greece was really just getting started

and that's where we're going to go.

368

:

And chapter 11 is to

focus primarily on Greece.

369

:

Okay.

370

:

So, uh, Did we noticed here verse

13, the prince of the kingdom

371

:

of Persia withstood me 21 days.

372

:

But Michael, one of the chief

princes came to help me.

373

:

I was left there with the Kings of Persia.

374

:

Uh, okay.

375

:

So what we have here Kings

is Kings and princes.

376

:

That are in reference to angels.

377

:

Yeah.

378

:

So it seems like.

379

:

And I don't know if this

is still happening today.

380

:

I have no reason to think that it's

not the same way or at least similar.

381

:

That these angelic beings,

these fallen angels, demons have

382

:

territorial, uh, assignments.

383

:

And even as God sends Gabriel, if it is

Gabriel to Daniel, He's blocked by these

384

:

angelic beings in the heavenly realm.

385

:

Right.

386

:

What do we do with that?

387

:

That's amazing.

388

:

Yeah.

389

:

Yeah.

390

:

The, the battle I, in my, the thing

that comes to my mind is transformers.

391

:

Like you wash the transformers

and there's just like a lot of

392

:

sparks flying and things like that.

393

:

But they're machines it's like, are

these things even hurting each other?

394

:

I don't even know that they're

hurting each other right now.

395

:

You cut off my flux capacitor.

396

:

One is going to win.

397

:

I know at the end, but like how

do angels battle each other?

398

:

Is there, what does that look like?

399

:

Yeah.

400

:

Well, here, here's what I might take away.

401

:

They used.

402

:

So here's, what's standing,

what's stood I'm 21 days.

403

:

And I'm guessing that for the time that

Daniel's morning, those three weeks.

404

:

Uh, I'm guessing he's praying and God

answered him three weeks ago, but the

405

:

answer to his prayers delayed because

of this angelic warfare does demonic

406

:

entities that are battling one another.

407

:

I think that's it.

408

:

But that to me tells me I better

keep praying under God's sovereign

409

:

allowance of all of this too.

410

:

Yeah.

411

:

And that's where you get your.

412

:

Your mind can turn into a pretzel

thinking, how does all this work together?

413

:

Uh, and I guess it has to feel

like what I feel like when I make a

414

:

decision I'm talking right now, I'm

choosing the words and I'm saying.

415

:

And yet all of that was within

the purview of God's sovereignty.

416

:

Right.

417

:

I'm not choosing something outside

of his will, but I'm choosing it.

418

:

I am choosing in my mind

right now to say, Yeah, crazy.

419

:

That's right.

420

:

It's like Emilio and John, when we studied

that, when he said it's better for one

421

:

man to dive in the whole nation perish.

422

:

Right.

423

:

And he's prophesying.

424

:

And yet he's saying he's choosing those

words on the fly for a different purpose

425

:

than what God superintended it to.

426

:

You meant it for evil.

427

:

God meant it for good to wills.

428

:

At work God's purpose, prevailing.

429

:

Amazing.

430

:

It is.

431

:

It is.

432

:

All right.

433

:

So chapter 11.

434

:

Chapter 11 is not interesting.

435

:

Let's get to chapter 12.

436

:

Okay.

437

:

It's no big deal.

438

:

No.

439

:

Chapter 11 so much going on here.

440

:

Uh, and it, it is, it is meaty.

441

:

This is the chapter that we referenced in

yesterday's episode that has led a lot of

442

:

critics to look at Daniel and say, this

must have been written after the fact.

443

:

And a lot of Christians to

look at the Bible and say, I'm

444

:

probably done reading for now.

445

:

Yeah.

446

:

Um, if you read this and you go,

okay, I don't understand any of it.

447

:

That's okay.

448

:

It's, it's a lot.

449

:

And it's a lot of history.

450

:

So as we get into chapter 11, then

all this history we pick up in verse

451

:

two, and you've got these four Kings

of Persia and the, we don't know, we

452

:

can't press this to heart and say, okay,

this is exactly who these Kings are,

453

:

but we have a general understanding.

454

:

Of these.

455

:

If we look at verse three, we're going to

see Alexander the great come on the scene.

456

:

And so if we back up from Alexander,

the great, some of the other Persian

457

:

Kings that were right before him,

we can kind of make a general.

458

:

Uh, informed estimate as,

as to who these Kings are.

459

:

And so the first might be

camp, a guy named Cain BCS,

460

:

and he ruled in five 30 BC.

461

:

Then another guy named

pseudo smear this, which.

462

:

Again, you're looking for a baby name.

463

:

A pseudo Samaritan might

be a good option for you.

464

:

Yeah, 5 22 BC.

465

:

Derrius the first HISTEP.

466

:

Uh, how about his step sees that's

another, that's a good middle name.

467

:

5 21 to 46 and then Xerxes and.

468

:

Xerxes is a name that you'll recognize

perhaps from the book of Esther.

469

:

And he was the king of rulings

during that time, 45 to 4 65 BC.

470

:

So Persian Kings verse two verse three

mighty king comes up in this mighty king

471

:

is going to be there from the kingdom.

472

:

That's going to replace Persia,

which pop quiz, who is it?

473

:

It's Greece and the king leading

Greece is going to be Alexander.

474

:

The great.

475

:

So Alexander, the great comes up in verse

three and remember the rapidity, the

476

:

speed that the goat wasn't touching the

ground, but it says there as, as fast as

477

:

he came to power, his kingdom is broken.

478

:

Alexander, the great dies young.

479

:

He dies in his thirties from

a sickness, from a disease.

480

:

And after he dies, he

dies without a, an error.

481

:

And so his kingdom is split verse

four into these four generals.

482

:

And this is the forehead leopard

from back in chapter seven.

483

:

Um, and so in these four generals,

you have these, you have the first

484

:

one being And then the second being

told me, and then the third being a

485

:

and then the fourth being Cassandra.

486

:

And so, uh, each of those took a

different region of the Grecian empire

487

:

solutions took Syria, Mesopotamia.

488

:

You had told me, take Egypt.

489

:

Then you had a Take three S in

Asia minor, and then Cassandra

490

:

took Macedonia and Greece.

491

:

I got the lucky, but right

there, he wasn't done in Greece.

492

:

That's kind of like, all right.

493

:

You're the, you're the leader.

494

:

Yeah.

495

:

Except that the two strongest.

496

:

It wants to emerge out of this or the

toll means and the solutions, the Kings

497

:

of that, those are the ones we know about.

498

:

Yeah.

499

:

Which become the Kings of

the north and the south for

500

:

the rest of the chapter here.

501

:

So the rest of the chapter deals

with the battles between the

502

:

Kings of the north, the solutions.

503

:

And the Kings of the south, the Ptolemies.

504

:

Uh, and this takes us all the

way up verses five through 20

505

:

to the arrival of Antiochus the

fourth or Antiochus Epiphanes.

506

:

Um, you can get into the

weeds in this history.

507

:

And this is again, what has led a lot of

critics to look at this and say, there's

508

:

no way this was written before the fact.

509

:

Because the descriptions

are so accurate that.

510

:

I think the Bible knowledge

commentary does a good job.

511

:

Of walking us through what

these conflicts were about.

512

:

So if you have the Bible

knowledge commentary or access

513

:

to it, that that's a good way.

514

:

If you want to get some more information.

515

:

To read up on, on a lot of that.

516

:

Pesa rod.

517

:

Any, any resources that you found helpful

in this, uh, this section in particular?

518

:

Yeah, I've got, I would

echo beat the BKC man.

519

:

I've got a, I've got several

commentaries that have been using

520

:

using, uh, but I, I would encourage you.

521

:

I mean, if you have the, if you have

the funds for it, I mean, just to

522

:

britannica.com, there's, there's lots

of, uh, there's lots of articles out

523

:

there for some of these people and

granted you're going to get it from us.

524

:

A secular slant.

525

:

And they're going to suggest that some

of the people that we've studied in the

526

:

past, or again, we talked about the, the,

uh, they, they think that it has, your

527

:

wears was historical, a non historical,

a legendary figure that was placed in

528

:

the scripture for who knows what reason.

529

:

So you're going to get a secular slammed,

but you're also going to get a lot

530

:

of links to other people at the time

in place during the season of time.

531

:

So I've been going headlong

into Britannica in addition

532

:

to my Bible study resources.

533

:

And by the way, Uh, log us AI.

534

:

Awesome.

535

:

I'm loving it because then you can

put questions in there, much like you

536

:

could a Google machine and it'll give

you articles within your library.

537

:

And even outside of it, that'll

help answer some of the questions

538

:

that you're coming up with.

539

:

Do you remember?

540

:

Growing up the encyclopedia Britannica

like CDs, the CD ROMs that they would say.

541

:

I was so excited about that.

542

:

I had an Almanac that I don't, I

think it start my reading journey.

543

:

That got me into reading

things like the Britannica.

544

:

And I found it really

boring when I was a kid.

545

:

Now I get excited.

546

:

You're eating it up.

547

:

I love them all this.

548

:

This is exactly what I needed.

549

:

Well, the important thing to remember

as you read verses five through 20,

550

:

this is dealing with the Kings of the

north, again, the solicits and the

551

:

Kings of the south, who are the Tonys.

552

:

And so you're dealing with,

uh, really the region of Syria

553

:

and then Egypt in the south.

554

:

The Ptolemies.

555

:

Uh, the solutions are the ones though that

are going to produce Antiochus the fourth.

556

:

And so in verses 21 through 35.

557

:

This really details the rise of Antiochus

the fourth Antiochus Epiphanes and

558

:

it's, it's a pretty detailed section.

559

:

You, you get his failed attempts at taking

Egypt and restoring Alexander's empire.

560

:

So he was fighting the

Tony's and in not successful.

561

:

And what that did and how that

factored into what we're talking

562

:

about with, with Daniel in Israel is

that fueled his rage against Israel.

563

:

And he comes back from fighting in Egypt

and being defeated in and he takes out

564

:

his, his vengeance on the people of God.

565

:

And this is going to culminate

ultimately with him forcing an end to

566

:

the burnt offerings and sacrifices.

567

:

We talked about that earlier in our time.

568

:

I think in yesterday's episode.

569

:

And enforcing an end to that.

570

:

And then also offering that the

abomination that makes desolate.

571

:

Which we understand historically

to be the fact that he

572

:

sacrificed a pig on the altar.

573

:

And so he gets angry at his, his failures

to take Egypt and goes after Jerusalem.

574

:

The beautiful land.

575

:

Uh, as it's described here in Daniel

chapter 11, and he goes after the temple,

576

:

and again, God allows him to do this.

577

:

This is the little horn.

578

:

Uh, from the four horns.

579

:

You remember, we, we

looked at that as well.

580

:

Um, and so that's entitled as a

Tiffany's that's who we see here in

581

:

Daniel chapter 11, verses 21 through 35.

582

:

His rise.

583

:

And is abomination of

desolation verse 36, though.

584

:

It shifts.

585

:

And it doesn't look necessarily

like it shifts, but it shifts to the

586

:

anti type of intake as the fourth.

587

:

And that is the antichrist.

588

:

The antichrist and the events

described in these verses.

589

:

One of the reasons why we know the

shift is taking place is because

590

:

the events described in these verses

weren't fulfilled by attackers.

591

:

Antiochus the fourth.

592

:

And so what we find in the rest

of chapter 11 is that missing 70th

593

:

week from Daniel chapter nine.

594

:

This is the final week.

595

:

This is the tribulation.

596

:

This is the antichrist rule.

597

:

Which will not be unopposed by the

way, if you'll notice that he's going

598

:

to have battles that he's going to

have to fight against other nations

599

:

and other armies, but eventually he's

going to establish full power and

600

:

set up his tent in Jerusalem there

between the sea and the holy mountain.

601

:

Um, but even still we know that

ultimately this one's end is going to

602

:

be a final and his, his doom is, is

sure, uh, as the, the grid him says.

603

:

Um, and so.

604

:

Jennifer Levin deals with the battles

between the solutions and the toll means.

605

:

And then the rise of

Intacct is the fourth.

606

:

And then the one that Intacct is the

fourth is ultimately pointing to, which

607

:

is the future fulfillment of this,

which is going to be the anti-Christ.

608

:

If we had to summarize some of the things

that we've learned, and I know we still

609

:

have to get the chapter 12, but just.

610

:

Put this in context, if we're

going to paint with a broad

611

:

brush, What do these chapters?

612

:

Seven through 12, teach us.

613

:

Um, things that we should walk

away with, even if we're not

614

:

familiar with all the particulars.

615

:

God is sovereign over the

affairs of human history.

616

:

I think the book of Daniel lays

that out for us, perhaps better

617

:

than any other book that we find.

618

:

Um, he is he's in control.

619

:

I mean, this is why the

first six chapters, even

620

:

though yeah, they're easier.

621

:

They're they're not without

their own profundity.

622

:

I mean, when.

623

:

He drives, never can enter into

the wilderness and says, you need

624

:

to realize that I'm the king of

Kings and the Lord of Lords that I

625

:

established Kings and take them out.

626

:

And then the rest of the book that

background helps us understand

627

:

how the rest of the book can be so

accurate because he's the one that

628

:

sovereign over all of these things.

629

:

I want a cool picture.

630

:

We need that reminder as we enter

another election season, as we start

631

:

thinking about the future for our

nation, the future for our churches,

632

:

the future for our kids, our grandkids.

633

:

We need to be reminded.

634

:

Jesus is on the throne.

635

:

He's never left.

636

:

He's got it all under control.

637

:

And in that we should take our confidence.

638

:

He's got the whole world in his hands.

639

:

Yeah.

640

:

You ever see that very offensive?

641

:

Ooga booga one.

642

:

Nope.

643

:

That, uh, we gotta sell a braid.

644

:

Ah difference.

645

:

Is you never heard that?

646

:

I don't think so.

647

:

Okay.

648

:

Well go look it up.

649

:

Okay.

650

:

Because it's offensive.

651

:

Yeah.

652

:

Okay.

653

:

Uh, chapter 12.

654

:

Uh, chapter 12, first three verses

here, dealing with the antichrist

655

:

rain during the antichrist rain,

Israel is going to face unprecedented,

656

:

suffering and troubles, but God

is going to deliver them still.

657

:

And in the end, you're going to

have these two groups emerge.

658

:

The first is going to be redeemed

Israel, those written in the book

659

:

who will rise to everlasting life.

660

:

And the second group are going to be

those that have rejected God who rise

661

:

to everlasting shame and contempt.

662

:

John 5 29, Jesus himself said

that those who have done good will

663

:

rise to the resurrection of life.

664

:

Those who have done evil to

the resurrection of judgment.

665

:

We don't see a lot about eternity.

666

:

We've talked about that here.

667

:

Um, we don't see a lot about

that in the old Testament.

668

:

And yet here we see a very clear.

669

:

Presentation of the fact that there was

a, an awareness of the judgment seat.

670

:

There was an awareness of the great

white throne at least, or the Bema seat,

671

:

perhaps they wouldn't have known it.

672

:

As in those terms.

673

:

But they were aware of, of judgment.

674

:

They were aware of eternity.

675

:

They were aware that some are

going to go to an eternity of

676

:

shame and everlasting contempt.

677

:

And there were some that were

going to go to life eternal.

678

:

And so I know there's

been some questions in.

679

:

What did they understand about

eternal Eternity they're here.

680

:

This is a great passage to go

to, to realize they did have

681

:

an understanding that there was

something that came after death.

682

:

Or this is also a time when God began

to reveal more of that, as we understand

683

:

progressive revelation God's and

tell us everything on the front end.

684

:

So this might've been one of those

clarifying times in Israel's history,

685

:

through the prophet, Daniel, where

God decided to start sharing more

686

:

information about the afterlife.

687

:

And this is a really important thing for

us because we take this for granted today.

688

:

Like, oh yeah, there's

a place of punishment.

689

:

There's a place of, uh,

of reward and protection.

690

:

This is great.

691

:

And this is helpful.

692

:

And this tells us something

really cool though.

693

:

Those who are wise shall shine like

the brightness of the sky above, and

694

:

those who turn many to righteousness.

695

:

Like the stars.

696

:

Forever and ever.

697

:

So there is a blessing and a reward

for those who maintain righteousness.

698

:

Um, it's a dark time.

699

:

And again, what a good

reminder that is for us today.

700

:

Yep.

701

:

Yep.

702

:

Verses six and seven, then

Daniel wants to know, okay,

703

:

how long is this going to last?

704

:

And he's told a time

times and half a time.

705

:

Uh, so that's three and

a half years at a time.

706

:

One year, times, two years,

half the time, half of a year.

707

:

So three and a half years, last

half of the tribulation period.

708

:

Uh, of that 70th week then, and

that's going to be the time of intense

709

:

suffering and persecution for Israel.

710

:

Uh, Daniel 12, 12.

711

:

1,290 days.

712

:

Um, this is, uh, this is

not three and a half years.

713

:

This is in fact about 30 days longer

than the three and a half years.

714

:

And, uh, and we're not exactly sure where

these extra days fit, but it could be on

715

:

either end of that three and a half years.

716

:

Some have said, this is the rise to power.

717

:

Some have said that this is the judgment

following the three and a half years.

718

:

But, uh, but the 1,290 days before the,

the ultimate blessings are gonna come in.

719

:

Um, to Israel and, uh, and she

will receive those at that point.

720

:

What do you say to the person that

says that they're a pan millennialist,

721

:

it's all going to pan out in the end.

722

:

Yeah.

723

:

Yeah.

724

:

Yeah.

725

:

Yeah.

726

:

Yeah.

727

:

I mean, I I'll say this.

728

:

I get it.

729

:

I do.

730

:

I understand it.

731

:

I understand that.

732

:

That a lot of this is

the sentiment of, yeah.

733

:

Sorry.

734

:

It's.

735

:

A lot of this gives you tired head.

736

:

But, I mean, we're called to

worship God with our minds.

737

:

Um, In that employee and involves

employing our minds to the, to the

738

:

limits, you know, to, to understand

as much about them as we possibly can.

739

:

Um, I think certainly as pastors, we

have a responsibility to fall somewhere.

740

:

I was talking with somebody

recently about this.

741

:

We're going to have decisions in,

in, in positions, on things because

742

:

that's part of our job to lead feed

and protect the flock we need to.

743

:

Right to Lindt somewhere.

744

:

Not everybody's going to have that

same conviction and that's okay.

745

:

There might be some people that

are spending years trying to sort

746

:

through all this and figure out

where they're going to land on that.

747

:

That's good work.

748

:

As long as it's not the central

issue, like the deity of Christ.

749

:

There's freedom in that to be

like, okay, where do I fall on,

750

:

on this issue or that issue.

751

:

But yeah, I think we need to give

ourselves to the effort, even if we

752

:

never really feel a hundred percent

confident in where we land, that's

753

:

probably a good wisdom and advice for us.

754

:

What the Bible as a whole.

755

:

The Bible doesn't start out easy.

756

:

I don't think for anybody, I mean,

you and I have had years of the

757

:

Bible now and it's become easier.

758

:

And become more coherent and clear

to us because we spent a lot of time

759

:

just investing and understanding it.

760

:

Yeah.

761

:

And the more you spend in it,

the better it'll be for you.

762

:

The more you understand the

old Testament, the more the

763

:

new Testament will make sense.

764

:

And the more you give yourself to it,

the better your experience will be

765

:

every year that you go through it.

766

:

So if you're in it right now

with us, praise God for that.

767

:

That's great.

768

:

You're doing a good thing

and it will pay dividends.

769

:

It will indeed.

770

:

Let's pray.

771

:

Got we, we asked for that.

772

:

We asked that we would see that and

begin to reap the fruit of that.

773

:

And even for those that are going through

this, perhaps for the first time reading

774

:

through the Bible with us as they're going

through this plan, I pray that they would

775

:

have already experienced that to a certain

degree, but that they will continue

776

:

to experience that as time goes on.

777

:

Uh, God, I pray that as long as

we're still breathing in, in here,

778

:

that we would be students of your

word and continually approaching it

779

:

with a teachable heart and humility

to learn what it has to say for us.

780

:

And so we ask this, we

pray this in Christ's name.

781

:

Amen.

782

:

Amen.

783

:

Thank you.

784

:

Bring your Bibles.

785

:

Speaking to that.

786

:

And join us tomorrow for another

episode of the daily Bible podcast.

787

:

I'll see you then.

788

:

But.
