If I had a dime for everytime I hear “I am so overwhelmed aggghhh” well I would have a lot of dimes!  It doesn’t feel great to be overwhelmed and so I thought it would be important to take a deep dive into it, create some distinctions about it, and explore.  Hello September and welcome the “Series on Overwhelm”. Today we are going to talk about what it is and some areas that contribute to it.  As we move through the month we will create more distinctions and help you with strategies to overcome it. But we are gonna talk about it and we're gonna really take this on and we're gonna get curious about it. And so today we're gonna talk about what is overwhelm. What's the big buzz about overwhelm next week. We're gonna talk about the two different places that overwhelm comes from internal overwhelm, external overwhelm.

And then in week three, we're gonna talk about preventing overwhelm. Yes, please. Preventing overwhelm. And we're gonna wrap up this series with. How your energy plays into overwhelm and ways that you can continue to practice practice practice. Now, I would love to tell you that this series is going to have you eradicate overwhelm from the rest of your life entirely.

's probably not. We're human [:

So let's talk really quick about overwhelm and what it is. I went to the dictionary on this one because. Ultimately overwhelmed for me is a feeling it's a feeling and I feel it in my body. I feel it in my chest, in my gut and in my brain. That's those are the places that I literally will feel, um, overwhelmed.

Making sense. I, I think this one makes sense to overcome completely in mind or feeling because it's like there's just too much going on, um, to overpower or overcome to cover or worry beneath a mass of something. And hello, how much does that feel? Like when we're in overwhelmed? It just like, feels like there's like a mountain of stuff on top of us to load, help, treat or address with an overpowering or an excessive amount of anything.

That's like, whoa, that's a lot. That's a lot. Okay. But what we're gonna talk about, that's not, we're talking about in this series, we're talking about what happens for people with overwhelm. Why it's such a buzz because the other thing that is really getting a lot of conversation and a lot of, you know, a lot of conversation and a lot of resources is also burnout and exhaustion.

Okay. So burnout and exhaustion. What do you think happens before burnout and exhaustion? Well, O. Okay. I'm feeling overwhelmed. I am overwhelmed. Okay. That's what's happening just before we're getting to burn out and resignation and exhaustion. All right. So. Overwhelmed. And that's why I think it's getting some extra special buzz.

It's [:

And. Older dogs. So I have my Foxy, who right now is 17 and a half. You guys, 17 and a half. Holy moly. And, um, when we lost AJ, she was 16 and a half and AJ was 15 and a half. So, um, not 15 and a half, he was solidly 15. Okay. But prior to that, He was, he'd been, he had had heart diseases entire life, and he'd been treated for heart disease.

as doing great. He was doing [:

And especially as. Things started shifting. And that was creating overwhelm that was creating overwhelm for me. and truly through some of the choices that I was making that was contributing to some of that overwhelm, uh, my, my little Foxy who's 17 and a half, and she is completely blind. Doesn't hear very well and gets confused pretty easily.

Um, is we're kind of at that point right now where I'm starting to feel some overwhelmed because I know that I'm on some borrowed time with her. and I love her so much. And, um, you know, some nights we don't sleep as great. And I know it's for a certain amount of time, right? And so I am choosing I'm choosing and making choices to take care of my dog.

leep. So that means that the [:

Okay. Um, but we're not there yet. We're not there yet, but what I really want you guys to hear is that it's choices. And so sometimes, so this is a circumstance that that's going on in my life right now that can create some overwhelm for. and I'm choosing some things that are contributing to the overwhelm.

y when they're in overwhelm, [:

Okay. So here's the thing. The reason that overwhelm is a choice. Is because it's not like you're waking up that day and you're saying today I'd like a hefty plate of overwhelm. You're not waking up. And like, yes, please. I'm gonna have the overwhelm overwhelm comes from a series of choices, a series of choices that begin to compile and create some overwhelm.

Okay. So I was just sharing one. Around that's personally affecting me. Okay. You can have the, the, it could, there's a myriad, right? You wanna start looking like what's driving you overwhelm. What are some of these choices? And that's where you wanna start? Like, what are the choices that I'm actually making day to day that are contributing to overwhelm now, see, here's the jam.

myself. I can manage myself. [:

Okay. Through this season, I can make those choices, see how it works. Okay. So what would be interesting is if I didn't own. All right. And I still chose to operate the same way in, you know, with, with the sleep and with taking care of her in the night. And then the next day, not choosing to not build in any breaks or anything like that or anything that was gonna support my wellbeing, choosing not to choosing, to squeeze in, push through, show up, anyway, stuff, things, stuff, my feelings, da da, da, da, da, then overwhelm is gonna be [00:10:00] certainly, it's gonna feel like it's outta my.

Whereas right now I am, um, can complete ownership. I don't have that feeling. I don't feel anxious. I don't feel it's not, it's not hard. So therefore I can't actually really say I'm in overwhelmed because I'm, I'm owning the choices I'm making. So you gotta know that that's what overwhelm is, is a series of choices that are, you know, that are supporting you to get to that place of.

I'm overwhelmed. Okay. And so at work it could be, you know, looking at not setting boundaries or, you know, not taking breaks or saying yes to all the things and not really owning that word. No, again, there are some professions that that's a little bit harder and so you've gotta really find what's within my control because sometimes you guys, there are things that are in our.

I'm the messenger. Sometimes [:

Okay. This is really, really, really important because as we're taking the lead in our lives and we are really working on making. Choices that support us. Remember the episode last month, about self-care as a preventative, we've gotta get into ownership about that overwhelm so that we can really look at our choices so that we can actually start putting some things in to begin to prevent it.

e are here for in this month [:

Or external, we're gonna go there. I started to go there a little bit right now and a little bit's external and a little bit's internal for me right now when it comes to, um, my dog Foxy. So we're gonna talk about that. And again, in the third week of September, we're gonna talk about ways to prevent it, ways to reduce it.

And then we're gonna wrap up the month on how our energy plays into. Into overwhelm into our choices, and we're gonna have some practice, practice, practice, practice, and I'm gonna have some challenges for you to practice, practice, practice, cuz that's what we're here for. That's what we're here for. All right.

Remember you have a choice to lead your life or follow your circumstances and life's about knowing your passions, your purpose, your values, and creating that impact that you want in your life. Where you wanna create impact in the lives of others. And it really is about choice. It really, and truly is about choice.

And trust that more always gets revealed as we move forward. So remember, take those pauses, let go of worry. Let go of doubt and live fully the best version of.
