It seems like every health food place and juicing bar seems to have a juice cleanse these days but, are these juice cleanses actually effective? They tend to be marketed really well and promote benefits for digestive health, skin health, and resetting your diet but do they actually work?

In this week's episode, Evan gives his two cents on what he thinks about Juice cleanses and if they are effective or not. He also provides a framework for how he detoxifies his body in a format that can be easily adjusted to your specific needs and goals. Sometimes it can be hard to tell if you're falling for good marketing or for a truly great health practice. As a rule of thumb, Evan always says to listen to your body with all health practices, because only you truly know your body.

Be sure to tune in to learn all about juice cleanses, and Evan's preferred methods of detoxing the body. As always, do everything with good intentions and connect to your elements.

Speaker:

what's going on, everyone.

2

:

Welcome to the elemental

I've been podcast.

3

:

Thank you all so much for tuning

in on this week's episode.

4

:

This is your host, Evan Roberts.

5

:

And on this show, I break down

complex health topics from a

6

:

simple and holistic perspective.

7

:

And on today's episode, we're going to

be discussing all things, juice cleanses.

8

:

So to start this off, have you ever

done a juice cleanse while if you

9

:

have ever tampered with any of your

dieting or actually tried anything?

10

:

Uh, outside of the normal

food that you typically eat.

11

:

Then it's very likely that you've come

across a juice cleanse, especially if you

12

:

go to any of these juice bars, most of

them will typically have a juice cleanse.

13

:

But realistically, are those

juice cleanses actually

14

:

beneficial for your body?

15

:

Are they actually helping you to

detoxify your body or specific organs?

16

:

Like, are these actually as beneficial

as we make them out to be, or

17

:

is it just a ton of marketing?

18

:

That's a really good way of getting you to

buy a ton of juice at one period of time.

19

:

Well in today's episode,

we're going to go over.

20

:

If I personally think that juice

cleanses are good for you or not, as

21

:

well as my take on what would be a

good way for us to detoxify our bodies.

22

:

Especially if we're trying to detoxify

very specific organs within our bodies.

23

:

So that is going to be where we're

headed with today's conversation.

24

:

After today's episode,

you're going to know.

25

:

If a juice cleanse is

right for you or not.

26

:

And also various ways in which you

can do different detoxes back can

27

:

be beneficial for the entire body or

very specific portions of your body.

28

:

So.

29

:

I wanted to start today's episode

off with really just making

30

:

clear that you are the best.

31

:

Indicator or.

32

:

You know, judge, in terms of

what is good for your body.

33

:

So what I mean by that is.

34

:

You really need to listen to your body.

35

:

You need to listen to

what it's telling you.

36

:

If it hurts after certain things,

like, obviously that's not something

37

:

that's right for you, but really at

the end of the day, what works for

38

:

me might not work for you, right?

39

:

Like I'm not a medical professional.

40

:

I'm simply speaking off of

all of the experience that I

41

:

have have where I really have.

42

:

I put myself through all these different,

you know, self-inflicted studies and

43

:

whatnot to figure out what has worked best

for me, as well as the people around me.

44

:

Uh, but aside from that, just because

it works for even a majority of the

45

:

population, doesn't always mean that

it's going to work for you or vice versa.

46

:

So.

47

:

One to start off there and really

highlight that you need to pay attention

48

:

to your body because you're going

to be the best person to determine

49

:

what's good or not good for your body.

50

:

And really the only other way to.

51

:

No better than your own self is to

actually go and get tested, right?

52

:

Get like a blood draw.

53

:

And that way you can actually see

like different levels of minerals or

54

:

vitamins or, you know, blood glucose

levels and then go from there.

55

:

But the second best way to

really know is to just listen

56

:

and feel how your body feels.

57

:

And the reason I start off there is

because I wanted to say that if juice

58

:

cleanses have worked for you in the

past, for whatever purpose you've been.

59

:

Using them for whether it's, uh, you know,

weight loss, or just resetting your diet.

60

:

That's a really common one and,

and a great one in my opinion.

61

:

Uh, then by all means, keep doing it.

62

:

If it works for you, then continue

down that path and use it as a tool.

63

:

Use it when you need it.

64

:

Right.

65

:

If you've been eating really an

unhealthy food and you just know

66

:

that it's time for a change then,

uh, and, and, you know, using a juice

67

:

cleanse, whether it's one of those

three-day juice cleanses or whatever.

68

:

Uh, and that works for you then

by all means, continue to do that.

69

:

Like do not change it, you

know, just like continue on

70

:

with whatever your protocol is.

71

:

Because like I said, whatever

works for you might just

72

:

work for you and not others.

73

:

And this whole conversation is

going to be based on my opinions.

74

:

So.

75

:

Uh, what I had to start off there

with just that caveat, because.

76

:

When it comes down to my opinion on

if juice cleanses are the best way

77

:

to cleanse or detoxify our bodies.

78

:

Personally, I do not think

that they are the best way.

79

:

Um, I think that they can be a decent

way of doing it, especially depending

80

:

on the kind of juice that you're using.

81

:

But overall, I really think

there are better ways to detoxify

82

:

the body or cleanse the body.

83

:

Right.

84

:

That's usually one of the main things

of why we even do a juice cleanse

85

:

it's to detoxify and cleanse the body.

86

:

And personally, I just feel that

there is a lot of other ways we

87

:

can go in, which would be way

more beneficial in my opinion.

88

:

So.

89

:

First off.

90

:

There's a couple reasons why I'm

not a huge fan of juice cleanses.

91

:

And the elephant in the

room here is really sugar.

92

:

When it comes to juice cleanses.

93

:

They can typically have a pretty

high level of sugar in them.

94

:

So just to kind of give like

a baseline here so we can

95

:

know what to base this off of.

96

:

If you took a 12 ounce can of Coca-Cola.

97

:

At least here in the United States

is 39 grams of sugar in that 12 ounce

98

:

can of Coca-Cola, which obviously

we know is a high amount of sugar.

99

:

We kind of expect that

coming from soda, right?

100

:

Like it's, it's obvious that

this is a high sugar drink.

101

:

But when I was doing my research for

this episode and looking at some of the

102

:

really popular juice cleanses out there.

103

:

The numbers that I was

coming across were pretty.

104

:

Pretty bad in my opinion.

105

:

And I'm not going to like ALST any

of these juice cleansing companies,

106

:

because personally I think that they're

coming from a really good intention.

107

:

Right.

108

:

And they're, they're probably

trying to do something well.

109

:

Um, but nonetheless, I did see that

a lot of these juice cleansing.

110

:

You know, Marketing

like packages and stuff.

111

:

The at the low end, I think we're around

10 grams of sugar, which isn't that bad.

112

:

Um, but then at the high end, they

were like literally over 50 grams

113

:

of sugar per bottle on a couple of

these, um, which is obviously like.

114

:

Way too much sugar.

115

:

That's a ton of sugar.

116

:

It far out beats the a can of Coca-Cola.

117

:

So, uh, the average or the median that I

was, uh, finding along, uh, with these.

118

:

With a majority of the juice cleanses

was somewhere around like 20 to 25

119

:

grams of sugar, which is obviously

less than a Coca KA a can of Coca-Cola.

120

:

Uh, but still pretty high up there.

121

:

And.

122

:

Trust me, like I get it.

123

:

I know.

124

:

A lot of you are probably thinking, but

yeah, a can of Coca-Cola is going to be

125

:

way worse for you than even a glass of,

you know, whatever kind of high sugar.

126

:

Uh, fruit juice, right?

127

:

Absolutely.

128

:

I agree with you.

129

:

Like, you know, In a Coke can of Coke.

130

:

You're going to have not only the added

sugar, but you're also going to have,

131

:

you know, color agents in there as well.

132

:

And other kinds of chemicals that are

just not going to be good for you.

133

:

So for sure, drinking a bottle of whatever

kind of fruit juice you pick is going

134

:

to at least have some degree of probably

minerals and vitamins in there, um, to,

135

:

you know, help out at least a little bit.

136

:

Uh, but at the end of the day, you're

still consuming, like regardless of

137

:

what vitamins and minerals are in

there, you're still consuming a high

138

:

sugar beverage and sugar is going to

act the same, whether it comes from

139

:

Coca-Cola or whether it comes from a.

140

:

Fruit juice drink, right?

141

:

So I really just wanted to lay

that basis down first is that,

142

:

you know, Even though it might be

fruit juice and labeled as healthy.

143

:

If it has a high amount of sugar in it.

144

:

It's still a high sugar drink, which

is not going to be good for you

145

:

because as we know, sugar is, you know,

Literally linked to, uh, obesity, poor

146

:

cardiac health, um, even issues with,

you know, some of the more serious.

147

:

Uh, illnesses out there and,

uh, you know, really bad for

148

:

brain health, cognitive health.

149

:

Uh, so it's just something that we

really do not need excessive amounts of.

150

:

Right?

151

:

Like we get a ton of sugar in our

diet as is, and adding more of it

152

:

is not something we need to do.

153

:

Also, I really like to

highlight the point that.

154

:

When you, for example, eat a fruit,

let's take an apple, for example.

155

:

If you were to bite into

an apple and eat the apple.

156

:

Not only are you getting the sugar that

would naturally be in that fruit, but

157

:

you're also going to get the vitamins, the

minerals, you're going to get the enzymes,

158

:

the heat sensitive enzymes, um, and other

heat sensitive components of the apple.

159

:

And you're going to get all of

the fiber that would naturally

160

:

be in the apple, right.

161

:

Which in a glass of apple juice.

162

:

You're not going to get that fiber.

163

:

Right.

164

:

That's obviously the main thing

we're doing is we're removing

165

:

the fiber or the pulp, and we

are keeping all of the liquid.

166

:

So you're literally just

extracting all the liquid.

167

:

With mainly the, you know, sugar in it.

168

:

So that's the main differentiator here

because when you eat a fruit and you get

169

:

that fiber, it is going to help you digest

that food and also digest the sugars.

170

:

Right.

171

:

So it's not going to give you the same

kind of an, uh, increase in spike in your

172

:

blood glucose levels and insulin, right.

173

:

So naturally eating the fruit is going

to help buffer some of that sugar.

174

:

But also at the same time.

175

:

When you drink a glass of apple juice.

176

:

That glass of apple juice can

literally have the juice of like

177

:

eight to 10 different apples in

just that one glass of apple juice.

178

:

So you're drinking the sugar

of eight to 10 different apples

179

:

in one sitting in one glass.

180

:

Whereas if you were to eat an apple.

181

:

Like at maximum, you're probably

gonna eat two to three apples.

182

:

Right?

183

:

I mean, if you had more than

that, I mean, you, you could,

184

:

but it's probably pretty rare.

185

:

The average person is going to

have one, maybe two and at max,

186

:

like three apples in one sitting.

187

:

So, not only are you getting all the

fiber heat sensitive enzymes, all of

188

:

that vitamins minerals, but you're also

consuming less of the sugar because

189

:

you just simply wouldn't normally eat.

190

:

Eight to 10 apples in one sitting.

191

:

So right there, you're going to get

way more sugar in the juice that

192

:

you're drinking, as opposed to, if

you naturally would eat that apple.

193

:

So.

194

:

I like to kind of just throw those out

there to really highlight, you know, Yes,

195

:

there are benefits to fruit juice, but

we do have to be very wary of the sugar

196

:

and understanding that we are separating.

197

:

Uh, you know, the juice from

the pulp of the fruit here.

198

:

So, uh, this is very

important to understand.

199

:

And truthfully, um, the fruit comes

the way it comes for a reason, right.

200

:

To designed, to be

consumed in that matter.

201

:

The pulpit, all.

202

:

Um, so.

203

:

Yeah.

204

:

I really like to just highlight this.

205

:

And I also like to highlight that.

206

:

I'm in no way, trying to demonize

fruit here, like a hundred percent

207

:

eat all the fruit that you want.

208

:

My personal, uh, outlook on

what foods we should be eating

209

:

is very simple whole foods.

210

:

I mean, I do have a little bit more

specifics for myself, but just in

211

:

general, I think stick to whole foods.

212

:

You can eat fruits, you can

eat vegetables, you can eat.

213

:

Uh, high quality meats and you can eat.

214

:

Uh, uh, nuts as well, right?

215

:

Like anything that is a whole

food, something that you can

216

:

literally find out in nature,

like growing on a tree or grazing.

217

:

That is a whole food right there.

218

:

So, yes, by all means eat

as much fruit as you want.

219

:

I personally don't care.

220

:

Um, I'm not too worried about the

sugar consumption on that, but

221

:

in the form of a juice, that is

where it does become a concern.

222

:

Now.

223

:

The other two things that I do

not like about juice cleanses, and

224

:

this is not true for all of them.

225

:

Uh, there are some that are

really high quality and they

226

:

do meet these two standards.

227

:

But number one is that.

228

:

There are a lot of juices and juice

cleanses out there that are not organic.

229

:

And the reason I'm bringing

this up is because.

230

:

When you're doing a juice

cleanse or a juice detox.

231

:

What are you trying to do?

232

:

You're trying to cleanse and detoxify your

body from all of the manmade chemicals and

233

:

crap that they are putting in our food and

putting on our, uh, fruits and vegetables.

234

:

Uh, that we are literally trying

to clean and rid ourselves of.

235

:

So the last thing we really need to

be doing here is adding more of that.

236

:

So when you do a juice, detox, or

juice cleanse, I highly recommend if

237

:

you're going to do one, to make sure

that it's an organic brand or that, you

238

:

know, the people who made that juice

did not use any pesticides herbicides.

239

:

Uh, rodenticides any of the

chemicals that would normally be

240

:

sprayed on a conventional produce.

241

:

Okay.

242

:

So once again, The goal of the detox

is to detoxify the body, not to load

243

:

it up and to increase our toxic load.

244

:

And then the second thing is

going to be that a lot of these

245

:

juices are also not cold pressed.

246

:

Now, what does that mean?

247

:

Cold pressed as opposed to heat it up.

248

:

The reason that you would warm up the,

uh, the fruit juice is mainly to make

249

:

it shelf stable, to make it last longer.

250

:

Right?

251

:

Your.

252

:

Uh, basically like pasteurizing,

uh, the, uh, the juice.

253

:

And so you're making it so shelf stable,

but in doing so when you heat up.

254

:

A fruit juice.

255

:

You're going to kill off

all of the heat sensitive.

256

:

Uh, beneficial components in

there such as enzymes, right.

257

:

So there are a lot of juices

out there that do cold press

258

:

juices and as well, organic.

259

:

Um, those, if you are going to

do one, I would recommend you

260

:

at least go in that direction.

261

:

Um, but still, I think we

can do a little bit better.

262

:

So.

263

:

What.

264

:

I always ask people when they

ask me, if I think a juice

265

:

cleanse is a good idea or not.

266

:

And by the way, uh, there is a good

friend of mine, Justin, if you're

267

:

listening, thank you so much for.

268

:

Uh, the idea for this episode.

269

:

And, uh, he did reach out to me with this

question and I really appreciate that.

270

:

So shout out, Justin.

271

:

And, uh, When he was asking me.

272

:

You know, wha uh, should

he do a juice cleanse?

273

:

Like, is it a good idea?

274

:

One of the first questions I'll

always ask is what is your goal

275

:

with doing this juice cleanse?

276

:

Right?

277

:

Because there's a lot of reasons

why people will do a juice cleanse.

278

:

Like sometimes people,

uh, want to lose weight.

279

:

Sometimes people want to reset their gut.

280

:

Maybe they have gut issues and they

want to kind of give their gut arrest.

281

:

Uh, maybe they want to start eating clean.

282

:

Like you've been eating really bad.

283

:

And so this is kind of

a reset button for you.

284

:

And then after the juice cleanse, you're

going to be on your way to a healthy diet.

285

:

Uh, it could be.

286

:

You know, cleanse different

organs like the liver, or maybe

287

:

a to detoxify for skin health.

288

:

So there's a bunch of

different reasons why to do it.

289

:

But the reason I ask that is because

you can get a lot more specific with the

290

:

types of detoxifications that you do to

really specifically target those areas.

291

:

Now, of course, there are certain

detoxes that are just going to be

292

:

beneficial for the entire body.

293

:

And that's usually how things go.

294

:

We're a very interconnected being, right?

295

:

Like, just because you a heal your liver,

it doesn't mean you just heal your liver.

296

:

You heal many different things

when you do that, right.

297

:

You heal your blood as well because

it's detoxifying your blood.

298

:

So obviously we're very connected.

299

:

And so doing one of these.

300

:

Detoxes is going to help.

301

:

A slew of different things in the body.

302

:

But, and bear with me here.

303

:

Okay.

304

:

I'm going to raise up a point here

that some of you might not want to

305

:

hear, but one of, if not the best way,

in my opinion, to detoxify the body.

306

:

Is simply to do a fast, and I know

there's a lot of people out there

307

:

who are really adamant on not

fasting and that's absolutely fine.

308

:

I mean, it totally makes sense.

309

:

You know, we live in a very blessed

world where you can literally choose

310

:

to not go hungry, at least for a

majority of the population here in the

311

:

U S which is such a blessing, right?

312

:

Like absolutely grateful to be able

to live in a world where, you know,

313

:

like we don't have to be hungry.

314

:

We can literally continuously

just eat whenever we feel hungry.

315

:

However, it's very important to

know that your body absolutely

316

:

can go for an extended period

of time without any food at all.

317

:

And if that wasn't the case, then our

species would have been wiped out.

318

:

Like.

319

:

Uh, all of the super long time ago, right.

320

:

We had to eat.

321

:

Every four hours when we started

getting hungry, like trust me, we

322

:

would have never made it as a species.

323

:

So our bodies can absolutely go for an

extended period of time without any food.

324

:

Definitely 24 hours.

325

:

That's you know, for sure.

326

:

Uh, but you know, more like

three to even five days, right?

327

:

Like these are common fast that people do.

328

:

Of course you, aren't just

going to start your very first,

329

:

fast with a five day fast.

330

:

You're going to start a little

bit slower, but your body is a

331

:

hundred percent capable of it.

332

:

It's more so your mind that you have to

conquer when you're doing these fast.

333

:

But like I said, bear with me here.

334

:

There is a reason why I think fasting

is in my opinion, the best detox.

335

:

So the first reason why I think fasting

is the best detoxification for the body.

336

:

Is first off you give your body arrest.

337

:

So if you think about it, There are

many people in this world that, you

338

:

know, within the first hour of waking,

they're consuming food, they're

339

:

snacking on food, maybe an hour or two

later, and then they're having lunch

340

:

and then they're snacking again, and

then they're having dinner and then

341

:

they're snacking again right before bed.

342

:

And then they go to bed.

343

:

They sleep for eight hours

and they wake up and repeat.

344

:

Your body is really almost

never getting like a break.

345

:

It's never having an opportunity to just

fully digest the food and to be empty.

346

:

Right.

347

:

And to just have a

moment of breathing room.

348

:

Right.

349

:

And being able to even possibly.

350

:

Uh, heal and repair itself.

351

:

So when we fast.

352

:

We give our entire digestive system,

everything for it that, you know, starting

353

:

from your mouth all the way down to

your anus gets an opportunity to just

354

:

relax and hopefully even go into a.

355

:

Uh, cleaning mode, right?

356

:

Where it's healing and repairing itself.

357

:

This is super beneficial.

358

:

This is like, One of the best things

you can do for your digestive system.

359

:

In my opinion is to just do a fast,

like go without any food, give

360

:

your body a chance to relax and.

361

:

Two.

362

:

Have a moment where it's not always just

focused on digesting incoming food, right?

363

:

Like, this is a pretty

crazy thing to think about.

364

:

Like if you're outside working.

365

:

You need time to sit down

and relax and recuperate.

366

:

Well, your digestive system

needs the same thing.

367

:

So when you do, uh, when you do a.

368

:

Uh, fast, you give your body that room in

that space to go ahead and rest and relax.

369

:

Also for anyone who's dealing with

any kind of gastrointestinal issues

370

:

like myself when I was young.

371

:

Fasting is truthfully like

the magic bullet here.

372

:

I swear now it's not going to

be, you know, the cure all be

373

:

all like kind of deal, but.

374

:

It is incredible what it can

do for your digestive system.

375

:

For myself personally, I have, uh, IBS.

376

:

Pretty much have killed myself

of it at this point, but.

377

:

The very first time.

378

:

I ever went.

379

:

It was two weeks actually.

380

:

Uh, without any kind of a flare

up or issue with my digestive

381

:

system, no cramps, nothing.

382

:

Was when I started implementing

intermittent fasting and I didn't even

383

:

know that's what I was doing at the time.

384

:

This was back in 2000 and.

385

:

Like 11, 2010.

386

:

I had no idea that

that's what I was doing.

387

:

I was also pairing it with

specifically just salads, but I was

388

:

doing intermittent fasting, which

means a, about a 16 hour fast.

389

:

14 to 16 hour.

390

:

And when I did that, I

had zero flareups at all.

391

:

So for a person who has digestive

issues, This you absolutely have to try.

392

:

You have to try a fast and

just see how good it feels.

393

:

For example, when I do a three-day fast.

394

:

You know, when you extend the

fast like that, the, the, the

395

:

feelings and the benefits are much

more profound and longer lasting.

396

:

So what I did a three-day

fast, I mean, I literally had.

397

:

Up to two, to maybe even three weeks after

that, where my digest, my digestion was

398

:

hundred percent, top level performing.

399

:

Like it should be right.

400

:

And so.

401

:

It's like no flare ups.

402

:

Um, you know, when you go to the

bathroom, it's just like a smooth process

403

:

all the way through amazing stuff.

404

:

So if you are dealing with

gastrointestinal issues, highly,

405

:

highly recommend that you at

least try a small, fast, like.

406

:

Uh, if you can do a 16, 18 or 24 hour at

the minimum, highly, highly recommended.

407

:

Okay.

408

:

Now getting back into other

reasons why I think a detoxify.

409

:

Uh, sorry.

410

:

Fasting is a great detoxification process.

411

:

Is number two, which is the

activation of autophagy.

412

:

So autophagy is.

413

:

Basically when your body.

414

:

At a cellular level cleans house.

415

:

So.

416

:

At a cellular level.

417

:

Do you have different components

in your cell and during the Your

418

:

body will go ahead and take all of

the components in a cell that are.

419

:

You know, malfunctioning,

they're not working right there.

420

:

There.

421

:

They're dead, they're broken, whatever.

422

:

And they clean them out or they

possibly even take them and reuse them

423

:

for other components within the cell.

424

:

But essentially you're cleaning the entire

cell, like making it work more efficient.

425

:

So your body is working more

efficiently at a cellular level.

426

:

When you activate autophagy, which

autophagy does occur in the deeper, fast.

427

:

So 24 hour and beyond usually

is, is really where you're

428

:

going to experience some of that

autophagy, um, benefits there.

429

:

But autophagy for, for

me personally, is one of.

430

:

The best.

431

:

Health benefits of doing a fast.

432

:

And of course there's a million

other benefits as well with fasting.

433

:

But that to me is like, One of the

best and one of the best in terms

434

:

of like detoxifying, because it's

truly just going through and cleaning

435

:

up everything at a cellular level.

436

:

And then, uh, I would say that's mainly

the two major benefits of doing these

437

:

fast in terms of like detoxification

there's many others as well.

438

:

I mean, even just the fact that

your liver gets a chance to rest

439

:

as well, and then it can just focus

on, uh, detoxifying the blood.

440

:

Right.

441

:

That's a huge benefit as well.

442

:

But for people who have never done a fast

before, or maybe you have, maybe you've

443

:

just done like a small intermittent

one, like a 14 or 16 hour fast.

444

:

I highly recommend to just take it slow.

445

:

Like you can build up your

fast, you don't have to jump in.

446

:

And I actually, I recommend that you

don't jump into a really deep, fast

447

:

if you've ever done them before.

448

:

Uh, take some time to build it up.

449

:

If you've never fasted before, start

out with a 12 hour fast, just don't

450

:

eat two hours before bed, go to bed

for eight hours and then wake up

451

:

and don't eat for two more hours.

452

:

That's a 12 hour fast right there.

453

:

And then you have a 12 hour eating window.

454

:

So you can start out there and

make your way up to higher levels.

455

:

And, uh, honestly, 24 hour fast.

456

:

Sounds really hard to someone

who's never done it before.

457

:

It's actually not that difficult.

458

:

It's pretty simple goes fast.

459

:

Pretty painless as well.

460

:

And then a lot of the times what I'll

do is I'll end up doing a 24 hour fast,

461

:

where I stop eating dinner at six o'clock.

462

:

All go the whole entire

next day without eating.

463

:

And then at six o'clock that night, when

I'm ready to have a dinner, I'll just

464

:

say, you know what, I'm just going to

go to bed a little bit earlier today.

465

:

And then, uh, not at six o'clock, but

maybe like, I don't know, 8 39 o'clock

466

:

like start getting ready for bed.

467

:

And then, uh, go to sleep

and wake up the next day.

468

:

And I just added on another 12 hours

there because I'm not going to have

469

:

my breakfast before six o'clock.

470

:

So then I'm now extending it to 36 hours.

471

:

So it's, it's kind of a.

472

:

Not kind of, it is

absolutely a mental game.

473

:

Uh, and you really have to conquer

your mind in order to do some of

474

:

these extended fast, but there

is a ton of benefit in them.

475

:

I will just say, of course,

practice with caution.

476

:

Once again, listen to your body.

477

:

If you are someone who deals with,

uh, or has dealt with any kind of

478

:

eating disorder or just how to,

you know, maybe you just don't have

479

:

the best relationship with food.

480

:

This might not be the best

option for you and that's okay.

481

:

Right.

482

:

But definitely you want to check in with

yourself, check in with your healthcare

483

:

provider, if that is the case, before you

go and do something like this, because

484

:

maybe this is not the best route for you.

485

:

However for just the

general population here.

486

:

You're probably more than okay.

487

:

To do a fast.

488

:

And, um, there's a ton

of benefit in doing it.

489

:

If you are a woman.

490

:

There is a little bit of a.

491

:

Protocol here.

492

:

So for example, on the very first start

of your period, so when your first bleed.

493

:

From that point up to ovulation

is the ideal time to do a fast.

494

:

Um, you can even go a couple

of days into ovulation, but

495

:

pretty much after ovulation.

496

:

And then so like post population up to

the first day of bleeding, um, that's the

497

:

phase where you do not want to do a fast,

so if you're going to fast, You're going

498

:

to wait after your period, and then you

can fast all the way up until, um, you

499

:

know, anytime between then and ovulation.

500

:

So.

501

:

There are a couple, a little

things here and there.

502

:

Uh, but for the most

part, it's pretty simple.

503

:

Yeah.

504

:

Just drink water, um, consume a high

quality salt, like a Celtic, sea salt,

505

:

or a Himalayan pink sea salt, right?

506

:

These are going to help

with our sodium levels.

507

:

And they're also going to provide,

uh, some trace minerals for

508

:

us, which are very important.

509

:

I also recommend maybe adding in

like a trace mineral supplement.

510

:

Uh, just to make sure we're

still keeping our mineral levels

511

:

proper at their right level.

512

:

Um, and that's going to help you

feel better during your fast as well.

513

:

But that's all there is to it, right?

514

:

Like fastening is obviously

very, very simple.

515

:

However.

516

:

I do realize that.

517

:

There are some people out there

that are like, dude, I cannot go

518

:

more than 12 hours without food.

519

:

Not something I can do.

520

:

Like I need other options because this

is not going to work for me first off.

521

:

I would say you are much

stronger than you think.

522

:

Give it a try.

523

:

Honestly.

524

:

I know it sounds hard, but give it a try.

525

:

But if you're truly, truly

just like, no, I can't do it.

526

:

That's okay.

527

:

I still have something for you.

528

:

So.

529

:

When it comes to.

530

:

Doing a cleanse or a juice cleanse, right.

531

:

Because I'll keep the juice in

there for you, so that you at

532

:

least have something going in your

stomach and something to taste.

533

:

Uh, but it's going to be a modified one.

534

:

So.

535

:

Once again, I would identify why

you're doing the detox or the cleanse.

536

:

Identify, whether it is for, you know,

um, gut health, maybe it's for liver

537

:

health, maybe it's for your skin health,

maybe it's to start a new diet, right?

538

:

Like you want to hit the reset

button, whatever it is, really kind of

539

:

figure out what the purpose is here.

540

:

And then you can really cater your

detox to fit whatever it is that

541

:

you're trying to benefit in your body.

542

:

So.

543

:

First off if you're going to drink juices.

544

:

Let's say you go and purchase one.

545

:

I would love to see you keep

the sugar content below 10

546

:

grams, which is very difficult.

547

:

I'm not going to lie.

548

:

It's really hard to find.

549

:

Some juices out there that are

below 10 grams of sugar per bottle.

550

:

Um, the lowest I had saw was five

grams in one of the bottles, uh, when

551

:

I was doing some research for this.

552

:

So.

553

:

It's possible.

554

:

It's just very difficult,

truthfully, probably the best way

555

:

to do this is to get a juicer.

556

:

So then you can juice your

own stuff and then, you know

557

:

what you're putting in there.

558

:

Uh, but if you are getting a juice

from a company, then please read

559

:

the nutrition label and check and

see how much sugar is in there.

560

:

That way you can identify it for yourself.

561

:

And of course, once

again, keep it organic.

562

:

Um, cold press.

563

:

Like these are the things

we want to focus on.

564

:

But if you can do it at

home, Then I would recommend.

565

:

Mainly juicing veggies, which I never

said this was going to be tasty.

566

:

Okay.

567

:

So sorry.

568

:

Um, but it will be lower in sugar.

569

:

So like, you can think of things

like a cucumber or celery, right?

570

:

These are going to be low sugar veggies.

571

:

Um, There might be a couple of fruit

out there, like some of the berries

572

:

that can fit into this category,

but for the most part, it is going

573

:

to be primarily, uh, vegetables.

574

:

And once again, vegetables

that are low in sugar content.

575

:

And then on top of that, I would also add

some to rec root and ginger root, which

576

:

once again, not going to taste good.

577

:

I'm really sorry.

578

:

I wish I could do something

for the flavor here, but.

579

:

If I had to pick a juice cleanse to do.

580

:

This is kind of the way I would do it,

but the reason I'm adding the ginger

581

:

and the, uh, The two Rick in there

is because both of those are going

582

:

to have anti-inflammatory properties

and they're also going to be really

583

:

beneficial for your gut health.

584

:

So if we're really focusing,

let's just say this detox is on.

585

:

Gut health.

586

:

Then having those two are going

to be incredible for really

587

:

helping out with your gut health.

588

:

So having a juice that's

primarily vegetable-based.

589

:

And then with those two routes in there.

590

:

And, uh, once again, we can get a

little bit more specific depending

591

:

on what it is we're trying to heal,

but let's say we are trying to heal

592

:

our gut, the tumeric, and the ginger

is going to be awesome in there.

593

:

And then.

594

:

On top of that, focusing on gut

health, like if this is a gut health

595

:

detox, so you're doing those juices.

596

:

Once twice, three times a day, maybe.

597

:

With those, I would also add in claustrum.

598

:

I would take claustrum first thing

in the morning and I would take

599

:

it for a lasting at night and

just pop it right in your mouth.

600

:

Let it dissolve in the mouth.

601

:

And then just slowly, uh, you know, you'll

consume it as you start to salivate.

602

:

And.

603

:

The whole time here with everything we're

consuming during this detox, we want to

604

:

make sure it is of the highest quality.

605

:

This is coming back to the fact that look.

606

:

You're doing a detox, right?

607

:

You're trying to clean your body.

608

:

So the goal here is to get away from all

of the bad chemicals and toxins and stuff

609

:

that is in a lot of the food that we.

610

:

Probably are consuming.

611

:

Um, you're very likely consuming really.

612

:

Uh, so while we're doing these

detoxes, we want to make sure that

613

:

we're really just putting in the

highest quality of things in our body.

614

:

And when you're doing a detox, I

always like to look at it like I'm not

615

:

consuming food when I'm doing this detox.

616

:

So why not spend a little extra on a

higher quality product that's going

617

:

to really help benefit your body.

618

:

So.

619

:

When it comes to, for

example, this claustrum.

620

:

There are, I'm sure a couple of brands

out there that are pretty decent, but my

621

:

favorite brand and the one that I found

to be the best is try arm rhe colostrum.

622

:

Uh, I'll have them linked

in the show notes as well.

623

:

There's a 10% discount code.

624

:

Uh, for first-time customers and that's

just for being a listener to the show,

625

:

because once again, I always try.

626

:

Uh, to find some way of, you know, given a

little thank you to all of you listeners.

627

:

And, um, that was one of the coupon codes

I was able to get with them because I

628

:

really, really love their claustrum.

629

:

It's incredible for one.

630

:

It has really improved my immune

health and that's actually one

631

:

of the main reasons I take it.

632

:

But we have to remember that 70% of

your immune system physically resides.

633

:

In your digestive system

in your GI tract, right?

634

:

Like 70% of it is in your gut.

635

:

So when you're taking claustrum, one

of the reasons it's probably benefiting

636

:

your immune system is probably because.

637

:

It's good for the gut health as well.

638

:

So, um, and also not only

probably, but if you go look at.

639

:

Uh, try Aras webpage.

640

:

You can see where their, uh, you

know, research is coming from and

641

:

they show that it has beneficial

for gut health specifically.

642

:

Um, and I have seen benefit with it

when I take it more than once a day,

643

:

which is why I'm saying to take it

morning and night during just morning.

644

:

That's when I really just noticed

mainly the immune benefits, but morning

645

:

and night is where I experience more

of the digestive benefits as well.

646

:

So highly recommend also

adding a colostrum in there.

647

:

And then I would also add in a.

648

:

You could just do

chlorophyll if you wanted to.

649

:

Um, cause that's one of the main

things when it comes to detoxing.

650

:

But I would probably personally go with a

micro algae, like spirulina and chlorella.

651

:

Because you're not only going to get

the chlorophyll, especially from the

652

:

chlorella, you'll get super high levels

of chlorophyll in the chlorella algae.

653

:

Um, but you'll also get some, uh,

protein, you'll get all nine essential

654

:

aminos from, uh, mainly spirulina,

but I believe chlorella has it

655

:

as well, just to a lesser degree.

656

:

And like I said, the chlorophylls

that's going to help detoxify.

657

:

Your blood, it helps to.

658

:

I believe remove a heavy metal toxins

from the blood as well as mycotoxins.

659

:

So super, super beneficial.

660

:

And it's also loaded with 40, uh,

over 40 minerals and vitamins,

661

:

which, um, is going to really

just help to nourish the body yet.

662

:

Like you're here already

drinking the juices.

663

:

So this is just going to be

an additional benefit to it.

664

:

Um, to me personally, I like chlorophyll.

665

:

I think it's great.

666

:

But why take just core fill when you

can take an upgraded version of it?

667

:

Like, that's kind of how I look at the

micro algae, spirulina and chlorella.

668

:

Um, it's an upgraded version

of chlorophyll and you have way

669

:

more benefits when taking those.

670

:

So I would probably add, uh, the

micro algae in there as well, which

671

:

for them, I always use energy bits.

672

:

Um, they come in tablet forms.

673

:

So if you like a powdered form,

this would not be the one to go to.

674

:

Uh, if you wanted to like add it

into your smooth, uh, your juices,

675

:

although you could probably blend

these ones up in like a coffee

676

:

grinder and use it that way as well.

677

:

Um, but I always use energy bits.

678

:

It's my personal favorite to

when it comes to micro-algae

679

:

because I've tried at least 50.

680

:

Yeah, at least like, I would say 10 to 15.

681

:

Uh, different companies when it

comes to spirulina and chlorella.

682

:

And this is my absolute favorite.

683

:

I've had the owner on the

podcast three times now.

684

:

She's amazing.

685

:

Her name is Catherine.

686

:

Arnstein go check her out.

687

:

I have all of her, uh, uh,

videos as well up on YouTube.

688

:

So you can check that out as

well on the elemental podcast.

689

:

Uh, elemental Ivan

podcast, a YouTube page.

690

:

But that is personally my favorite

and you get 20% off your entire order.

691

:

That's just for being a listener.

692

:

I have a discount code in

the show notes as well.

693

:

So please check that out if you want to.

694

:

Give that a try.

695

:

Uh, and then last but not least,

I would definitely be adding in a.

696

:

Probiotic as well as a prebiotic and

maybe even a post biotic as well.

697

:

Uh, and that's simply because

we're focusing on gut health here.

698

:

So we really, really want to boost our gut

health and adding in a probiotic is very

699

:

important, but also a prebiotic is going

to be, you know, those two are really

700

:

going to be the ones I want you to focus

on is the pre and the probiotic here.

701

:

The prebiotic is going to help feed

all the good gut bacteria and the

702

:

probiotic is going to be those beneficial

bacteria that are going to help.

703

:

Uh, your, your gut.

704

:

And once again, uh, if you don't know

this probiotics do not stick around

705

:

long-term, that is why you have to

take them consecutively all the time.

706

:

Um, That way you can continue to reap

the benefits of those good bacteria, but

707

:

unfortunately they do not typically take

root and colonize the gut on their own.

708

:

Um, but the prebiotics do

feed all good gut bacteria.

709

:

So those are very important post biotic.

710

:

That is basically what

the probiotic produces.

711

:

A lot of times it can be, uh, showing

up as like butyrate, which is really

712

:

beneficial for, I believe the gut

lining, uh, of your, of your gut.

713

:

So very, very important stuff there.

714

:

Um, quality once again,

absolutely does matter.

715

:

I really recommend high

quality brand here.

716

:

Personally, I use ritual

and they're symbiotic.

717

:

It's a pre-pro and post biotic, but

there are other companies out there

718

:

I've tried that are of high quality,

and I have enjoyed their products.

719

:

Um, There's a company called just thrive.

720

:

They have some really good probiotics.

721

:

Um, they're actually

on my list to try next.

722

:

I've heard really good things about them.

723

:

So that's why I want to try them.

724

:

Omni Biotics is another one that I've

heard a lot of good things about.

725

:

Um, so there's a few

different companies out there.

726

:

I highly recommend that

you, you do your research.

727

:

Um, and that's why I

like rituals symbiotic.

728

:

They definitely do their research and they

have a in vitro study on their probiotic.

729

:

Um, or symbiotic.

730

:

So that's why I go with them, but honestly

just choose a really high quality brand,

731

:

highly recommend pre and probiotic.

732

:

So that's going to do it for.

733

:

A gut detox.

734

:

Like if I was going to do a gut detox,

that is what it would look like.

735

:

Now, if you wanted to do a cleanse, but

for a different organ in the body or

736

:

something like that, honestly, this is a

really good framework to still stick to.

737

:

And, um, just add in the.

738

:

You know, different herbs or

supplements that are going to be

739

:

beneficial for those different organs.

740

:

So for example, if you wanted to really

work on like detoxing the liver, for

741

:

example, first off, I would really,

really highly recommend, like, make

742

:

sure you're not consuming any sugar.

743

:

Um, cause that's not going

to be good for liver.

744

:

Uh, but.

745

:

Adding in things like milk

thistle, uh, or adding in.

746

:

Uh, NAC or glutathione, like these

are going to be things that are

747

:

really beneficial for the liver.

748

:

They're going to help promote,

um, you know, Liver health.

749

:

Uh, so those are going to be good things

to consume while you're doing this detox.

750

:

If you're doing something for

your heart, maybe you add in a

751

:

cacao, for example, that can be

really good for your heart health.

752

:

Uh, so you can really just kind

of mix it up as you see fit.

753

:

Uh, whatever kind of works for

you, but once again, really just

754

:

trying to stay away from the sugars.

755

:

Uh, so that would personally

be like my detox layout.

756

:

Um, of course we could

go much further with it.

757

:

Like we can add in.

758

:

You know, going into a sauna and

sweating out a lot of the toxins.

759

:

Like there's a lot of different things

we could continue adding on, but I

760

:

think that's a general, like really

good framework, uh, to stick to.

761

:

And once again, if you do juice

cleanses and they work for you.

762

:

Always remember if it

works for you, keep going.

763

:

Continue doing what you're doing.

764

:

Um, you know, It's really about listening

to our bodies and respecting that.

765

:

Right.

766

:

And, and understanding that just because

something works for someone else, doesn't

767

:

always mean that it works for you.

768

:

But as a general rule of thumb, I

would love to see you not do a juice

769

:

cleanse at super high in sugar.

770

:

Hopefully it's organic and

hopefully it's cold pressed.

771

:

If you can go one step further.

772

:

Do the detox that I laid out and choose,

you know, what, whatever it is that you

773

:

want it for, you can kind of alter it

and cater it to whatever, you know, thing

774

:

you're trying to detox in your body.

775

:

Or maybe it's just a general

detox for the body or, you know,

776

:

setting you up for a new diet.

777

:

But if you can go even one more

step past that it's doing a fast

778

:

personally fasting, in my opinion,

just has some of the most benefit.

779

:

Um, of course doing, um, modified

fast, which it wouldn't really

780

:

be a fast anymore, but, you know,

adding in like, Specific things for

781

:

maybe gut health or liver health

that could also be beneficial.

782

:

Um, and if they don't spike your

insulin or your M Tor, then technically

783

:

you would still be in a facet state.

784

:

So you could technically make that work.

785

:

Um, but we're getting down a rabbit hole.

786

:

That is going to take us on

to a much longer conversation.

787

:

So we're going to cut it there.

788

:

Um, I love to end these episodes

with just a quick recap.

789

:

Actionable steps as well, so that you can

actually take all of this information and

790

:

this knowledge and apply it to your life.

791

:

So you walk away with this episode.

792

:

Uh, feeling empowered to actually

utilize this information.

793

:

So I know I covered a lot, but let's,

uh, just quickly kind of go over this

794

:

so that we can, um, Make it a little

bit more concise and easier to digest.

795

:

So first off, if juice cleanses

work for you, stick with them, you

796

:

don't need to listen to anything.

797

:

I just said, if it works for you

and you feel great when you do it or

798

:

afterwards, Um, then use it as a tool.

799

:

And when you feel that you

need to use it, use it.

800

:

Uh, is a juice cleanse in my

opinion, the best thing, no, not

801

:

really tends to be high in sugar.

802

:

A lot of them are not cold pressed.

803

:

A lot of them are not organic.

804

:

Why would you add more

toxic load to your body?

805

:

When the whole goal of what you're

doing is to try to detoxify the body.

806

:

So personally, not my favorite.

807

:

However, if you find a juice

cleanse that is low in sugar, Okay.

808

:

Pretty good.

809

:

I'll I'll I'll I'll let that one go.

810

:

I'll I'm happy with that.

811

:

Absolutely happy.

812

:

If you can find one that's low

in sugar, um, goal would be

813

:

10 grams or less per bottle.

814

:

Not per serving, but per bottle.

815

:

Um, Once again, sugar,

just not good for the body.

816

:

Something we really want to watch out for.

817

:

It has, you know, a lot of it can cause

a lot of health issues for our liver.

818

:

Um, with obesity, heart health,

brain health, all of that.

819

:

So really want to watch how much sugar

we're consuming and definitely not have it

820

:

in something when we're trying to detox.

821

:

Then get clear on why

you're trying to do a detox.

822

:

What is it for?

823

:

Are you trying to improve gut health?

824

:

Are you trying to start a new diet or

are you trying to cleanse your liver?

825

:

Like whatever it may

be, get clear on that.

826

:

And then you can really cater

your detoxes depending on that.

827

:

Of course the best detox in

my opinion is doing a fast.

828

:

Fasting is great for a lot of different

things in the body, such as a tophus.

829

:

G, uh, so it really cleans

you at a cellular level.

830

:

It can be difficult, but it's

mainly just in your mind.

831

:

Want to stay hydrated, have

some high quality salt.

832

:

And if you have some trace

mineral supplement, you

833

:

can also take that as well.

834

:

It will not take you out of your fast.

835

:

So long as it doesn't have any

weird added in ingredients in there.

836

:

If it's just trace minerals, you're fine.

837

:

And that is really the way you do

a fast, if you've never done a fast

838

:

before, build your way up, don't just

jump into a 48 hour fast if you've

839

:

never fasted more than eight hours.

840

:

Right.

841

:

So we want to build our way up.

842

:

And if you are totally a hundred

percent against doing fasting.

843

:

Then you can do these modified detoxes

where if you are going to consume

844

:

fruit, uh, sorry, juice best to probably

just have a juicing machine at your

845

:

house juice, primarily vegetables.

846

:

Um, if not solely vegetables like

cucumbers or celery, for example, and

847

:

then adding in there, the ginger ginger

and tumeric roots, which like I said,

848

:

this is not going to be tasty, but it

is going to be beneficial for the body.

849

:

And then depending on what it is that

you're going for, you can really.

850

:

Alter what you add in, or

take away to your detox.

851

:

If we're doing the gut one, once

again, you can add in Colossae from

852

:

day and night, you can add in some.

853

:

Uh, micro-algae which honestly, if

you're detoxing micro-algae should

854

:

just be in there in general, due to

their high levels of chlorophyll.

855

:

Um, that would be one of the main reasons

I would add them in there as well as the.

856

:

Minerals and vitamins that they

provide as well to the body.

857

:

And then, uh, you know, if you're still

sticking with the stomach one, then

858

:

finding like a good pre-pro and post

biotic, or at least a pre inappro,

859

:

uh, biotic to help the gut flora.

860

:

So.

861

:

That is.

862

:

Pretty much the low

down on juice cleanses.

863

:

Am I a hundred percent against them?

864

:

No.

865

:

Um, do I think they're the

best way to detoxify your body?

866

:

No.

867

:

I think there's a lot of other ways that

we can detoxify our body in a better way.

868

:

Um, but there are some juice cleanses out

there that are pretty quality and, um,

869

:

would definitely make the cut in my books.

870

:

Uh, but they're pretty far and few

between, because there are a lot of juices

871

:

out there that are super, super high.

872

:

In sugars and we want

to watch out for those.

873

:

So.

874

:

That's gonna do it for today.

875

:

I hope this helped you.

876

:

If you're thinking of

doing a juice cleanse.

877

:

Ponder this please.

878

:

And, um, you know, Decide if this

is really something you want to

879

:

go through with, or maybe you want

to try a different kind of detox,

880

:

like something that I laid out.

881

:

Um, but if you are going to go

through with the juice detox, at

882

:

least please look at those three

things, the sugar, or is it organic?

883

:

And is it cold pressed?

884

:

Those are the three things I

at least want you to look at.

885

:

And, um, yeah, hopefully if you do go

through some kind of a detox or a cleanse,

886

:

you end up feeling amazing after doing it.

887

:

Usually that is the case.

888

:

It's, uh, it's beneficial

for both the mind.

889

:

And the body and a as well,

emotionally and spiritually as

890

:

well, it can be a whole journey.

891

:

Um, fasting is truly something that

can test you mentally, physically,

892

:

spiritually, and emotionally.

893

:

It is a very powerful tool.

894

:

Um, so anyways, I hope you

all enjoyed this episode.

895

:

I hope you are walking away with this app.

896

:

897

:

the goal with this whole show.
