Section 1

Sometimes faith looks remarkably similar to fishing. Dr. Dave shares Steve Alden’s insightful observation that fishermen pursue something they cannot see, remaining attentive and ready for the moment something finally touches the line. That requires faith, patience, obedience, perseverance, and humility. 10012026A The Christian life often works the same way. Waiting on God does not mean trying to force His hand or manufacture an answer ourselves. Abraham’s attempt to “help” God produced Ishmael, reminding us that rushing ahead can create consequences God never intended. Instead, faith remains ready. We may not see what God is doing beneath the surface, but we can remain alert and prepared to respond when He moves. Faith does not have to see the answer in order to believe God is working.

Section 2

Persistence in prayer naturally follows that kind of faith. Matthew 7:7 teaches believers to keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking. Dr. Dave emphasizes that persistence is not nagging God; it is faith continuing to act while waiting for His response. 10012026A When prayers seem to echo back unanswered, the Father still hears every word. That makes the question about expectation especially important: when we pray, how strongly do we actually expect God to answer? Biblical faith combines confidence with patience. We bring our requests within the framework of God’s will and trust His perfect timing rather than demanding our preferred method. The answer may not arrive when or how we imagined, but genuine faith keeps praying, keeps trusting, and refuses to interpret waiting as abandonment.

Section 3

Ephesians 3:20 expands expectation even further by declaring that God is able to accomplish immeasurably more than we ask or imagine through His power working within us. 10012026A Dr. Dave connects that promise with Abraham’s faith, Jesus’ teaching about believing prayer, and Scripture’s declaration that without faith it is impossible to please God. The point is not that believers dictate outcomes to God; rather, we should stop approaching the Almighty as though His ability were limited. He has already accomplished the astonishing miracle of bringing spiritually dead people to life through Jesus Christ. If God can accomplish resurrection, our remaining needs are certainly not beyond His power. Faith therefore keeps moving forward, remains ready, continues asking, and expects God to work according to His will. When you cannot see what God is doing, keep the line in the water—because nothing you are asking is too hard for the Lord.
