I have a few questions for you to ponder. Have you ever had your colors? Do you know what colors look best on you? Does your wardrobe reflect the colors that you love to wear? Well, my guest today is Jorunn Hernes. Jorunn is a personal color analyst and founder of Yes, I woke up like this, A Scandinavian way of looking quietly fabulous. And yes, she is in Scandinavia, right now. Her personal color analysis consultancy has grown from offering color analysis to a purely Norwegian clientele to teaching wardrobe management and in-depth color guidance through online courses internationally. Jorunn is passionate about fighting imposter syndrome, one color at a time.

She never tires of talking about the joy of dressing with less and can think of 57 reasons to keep your natural hair color and has a sourdough bread starter named Sebastian. Hi Jorunn, thank you so much for being my guest today.

[:

[00:02:15] Beverly Price: Oh, we're so excited to be talking to you across the ocean. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself personally and professionally?

[:

[00:02:33] Beverly Price: I thought it was a dog's name at first

[:

Anyway, yes. I am as you said, I'm a personal color analyst in the C art system, and I'm trained, I was trained many years ago by Christine s Gaiman of 12 blueprints, and my color studio is in Norway. , and that's where I offer mostly for the most part, I offer my services there and sometimes in London, uk but mostly in Norway.

But I've, I also have a website and I send out emails. I call them Nordic Simplicity emails about dressing simply without looking boring. Yeah. And. Yes, I'm passionate about simplifying everything, into something manageable. Yeah, I guess maybe simplifying is my superpower. Christine teases me about that because she's a multiplier and I'm a simplifier, and so

[:

[00:03:42] Jorunn Hernes: Yes. Yes. Look it up. It's a thing. I never knew about it, but I, when I thought about it, that's, that's kind of what I do. I like to take complex issues and explain them in a simple to grasp way. And I'm also passionate about dressing with joy with less clothes. And my aim is that you should wear your favorite clothes every day.

[:

[00:04:15] Jorunn Hernes: My passion? It's not exactly colors as such. Okay. It was, it's kind of funny to say, but my passion is helping women feel comfortable in their own skin. Oh. And making them believe in themselves and making them dress every day with joy and effortlessness. Bit of effortlessness, so that they can go on to use their energy to, on more important things.

Yeah. And then color analysis and color. That's the tool that I use to help people achieve this. Does that make sense to you?

[:

[00:05:08] Jorunn Hernes: Right. Because you know, color analysis it has. Mm, Well, at least two, two layers levels for me on the surface, you can say, okay, technically what is the Cy Arts Color Analyst do? I do? I work one-on-one with a client in a systematic way, and we have perfectly neutral lighting, and we figure out which exact colors make your skin look plump and youthful and like your lid from within.

And then we discover which colors to avoid because they make you look old and tired. But on a deeper level, which is what I love, is that what we do is help you look like yourself, help you rediscover who you truly are. Is, am I making sense?

[:

But I. a name for what you're doing is finding your authentic self and your authentic beauty.

[:

[00:06:34] Beverly Price: Wonderful. I just worked with a fashion stylist and she helped me select my colors, and they came out to be the very bright, bold, royal type colors, reds, mm-hmm. and blues and things like that. I, and I had been dressing in browns and tans, so when she had me switch, my first reaction was, whoa, that's so bold. And my second reaction was, I love it. I absolutely love it. And so, and, and then on top of it, she gave me permission to feel good about my body and, and dress for me. And I, I take it, that's exactly what you do.

[:

And, and she told me that she felt like a gray mouse. and she felt like she kind of looks insignificant. Yes. And as the color analysis progressed, I could, I could actually see how she kind of straightened her back in the chair. And Yes. When she discovered finally how regal and serene she could look in her seasons colors, I mean, she literally beamed and later she sent me an email, you know, finally, she was given the courage to be who she secretly thought she was.

[:

[00:08:12] Jorunn Hernes: And to be herself. Yes. To, to be herself unapologetically.

[:

[00:08:19] Jorunn Hernes: That's response a little like your experience. How, how long did it take for you to absorb this, Beverly?

[:

And I didn't have a whole lot because like I said, I dressed in browns and tans. But so I went shopping and got some things and then I had to wear them. So it took me a little while. I, it wasn't just when she told me what my colors were, it took me a little while to wear them and to see them. Before it really sunk in.

[:

Yeah. And, and it it does, it does take time.

[:

[00:09:39] Jorunn Hernes: I say it because, well, first things first imposter syndrome is I, I, I know that from my own life.

It's like I feel I'm not worthy of being who I am. Somebody's going to say, aha, I knew you weren't as great as all that. Somebody's gonna find me out. And I, it's such a woman's thing, isn't it? Yes. And a lot of women struggle with this, and we need to fight it. And for me, using the tool of color analysis, I can make myself and women be comfortable in their own skin and say, I, I've got this.

Mm-hmm. , I'm, I'm doing this and I'm, I'm, I'm running my own life. I'm present as myself. I'm, I'm coming forward and I'm standing here. And that's, that's fighting imposter syndrome. And I think it's kind of a catchy little. Sentence Yes. To say I'm fighting poster syndrome one color at the time. But it's true, actually, I, we can use color. It can be as profound as that color.

[:

Mm-hmm. , and I didn't get one. So I spent my life trying to hide the fact that I never got the secret manual from you.

[:

[00:11:43] Beverly Price: So to, to kind of wrap up a little bit, what would you say are three things that, three pieces of advice you could give to women

[:

[00:11:57] Beverly Price: Their colors or about colors, fashion, or about themselves?

[:

And there's no upwards age limit. And it doesn't change when you grow old. You're the same season all your life, so do it. Second thing is use it. Don't use your colors. Don't just put your color fan in a drawer and then read magazines and follow whatever trend that says you should. Top this year and you know, and because when you use them, you'll save time, you'll save money because it doesn't, it does not cost more to pick that sweater in the color that makes you look great when the, a color that makes you love yourself when you wear it.

So that was the second. Let's see this third one. Yes, that's getting back to what I asked you to, to, to take time and, and let your season or your relationship with your season evolve because just like you evolve your relationship with your season, it evolves with you when you use it and, and, and use color analysis your season.

To understand yourself better.

[:

[00:13:44] Jorunn Hernes: Yeah, that was a long-winded answer.

[:

[00:13:57] Jorunn Hernes: My best personally, Since you're asking my best self-expression is in writing.

Ooh. That's, that's how I love to express myself verbally. I'm often, you know, after a conversation, I always think, oh, what I sh what I should have said, and blah, blah, blah. It's, it's a thing. Yeah. And I prefer my, my chosen mode of expression is writing. I love writing and. . Yeah. Do you

[:

[00:14:32] Jorunn Hernes: I write emails to my audience and I write blog articles about how to dress with joy with less, and Oh, philosophizing about minimalism and how to love yourself and Oh, how to accept yourself. I, I, yes. I, I write a lot and I also. Yes, I write other things too. I'm a content creator.

[:

[00:15:06] Jorunn Hernes: My website is Nordic simplicity, nordic simplicity.com. That's a good place to start.

[:

[00:15:13] Jorunn Hernes: And it's possible to sign up for emails from me there.

[:

[00:15:17] Jorunn Hernes: About Scandinavian simple style and lots of content about colors, of course. Yes, I guess, and they can also find me in the podcast that Christine's Gaiman and ICO Post.

Okay. The Chrysalis Color Analysis Podcast. Yes. And of course in person if they make appointments with me in Norway or London, there's pages on my website where you can read about that.

[:

[00:15:57] Jorunn Hernes: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much for having me. It's, it's really interesting to have this talk with another person who's passionate about the same things as I am.

[:

[00:16:08] Jorunn Hernes: And, and I feel really privileged that you thought of asking me and to be able to share. Share this little moment, this conversation.

Thank you so much.
