Tanya Igeres Hatshuva Chapter 9 In Chapter 8 the Alter Rebbe explained that Teshuva Ilah is after you repent for the sin than you Study Torah with love & awe that is high level of Teshuva. The question is that the Alter Rebbe explained in chapter 4 the Teshuva Ilah is returning the first Heh to its source & the first Heh is Binah not emotions of love & awe. The Alter Rebbe explains that when one studies Torah using his Bina & creates love & awe based on the meditation that is a by product of the First Heh & you elevate it back to its source. Binah. Meditation Creates A New Love & Awe. That is Teshuva Ilah. Example. To love G-D כי הוא חייך a reason as in האם רובצת על האפרוחים. The idea is to create a deep connection thru Studying Torah, Refinement of Character, thoughts of Torah, Speech of Torah & Action of Mitzvot. However when this is all done with Love it’s a much deeper connection. The greater the Yichud the greater the Teshuva love creates Yichud that creates Teshuva Ilah. The Alter Rebbr explains that since any defilement of the circumscion effects the brain so the way to atone for that is by studying Talmud. The Alter Rebbe quotes the Zohar that Studying Talmud has the power to atone for the death penalty & by doubling what you would Normal study is like creating a knot on something that broke before. The Alter Rebbe quotes proverbs that says בחסד ואמת יכפר עון that even though certain sins are not atoned thru sacrifice they are atoned via Torah & Chesed.
